  1. Yeah I'm not seeing a problem here. Perhaps there could be reason to b*tch with just two tracks being remixed. If they sounded the same. But they don't. It's like brand new goa trance from the label that has been holding it down now for more than two presidential elections. The best for me were the Nervasystem, Jagoa, Filteria, and Trinodia remixes, but they were all great. The two tracks are classics and the idea is not to repeat a classic sound (which they didn't), but to put your own signature on it (which they did). Throw in the shiny AP remix of Mugen (which has grown on me) and you've got another kick-ass hour of goa. I'm not a big believer of relying on the files to recreate magic from the past. If you don't have them then the creative juices should be flowing and that can lead you in all sorts of different directions.

Condition Black is a bad ass mix of head banging guitar and acid torpedoes. It's like if Downward Spiral NIN made a track with Syb Unity Nettwerk. Love that one. But the whole compilation is a sizzler from Nexus Media. 10 years old? Hard to believe. This was a time when this label could do no wrong.
  3. The hood is angry my friends. Furrowed brows and a chorus of "Dafuq?" were the order of the day strolling the streets of Baltimore. I suppose the above comments on this album are a sufficient sample size to make a decision. I'm ready to pronounce this one DOA... Ah yes, there is always an outlier. He is a rare breed, an enigma, encapsulated by a puzzle, floating in a sea of mystery. Like an Alabama man with a PHD. Or a Kardashian rocket scientist. I realize you cannot paint an entire genre with a broad uplifting brush, but this doesn't make me want to explore this type of music any further. As I mentioned in the previous installment of the series, this music is like the cousin of goa trance. The cousin with Down's syndrome. Yeah everything is fine until he gets excited and then you can't get away fast enough. Oy. I think I'd rather watch this. DAFUQ?
  4. Artist: Various Title: Shiva Space Technology Vol. 3 Label: Digital Underground Date: 1999 1. Tom - Joy 2. Cherouvim - Cyborg 3. Injector - Time Killer 4. Das - Paros 2000 5. Destination - Poste 6. Luminus - Project X 7. Cherouvim - Albert 8. Goldenfinger - Yam "Cause in a 69 my humpty nose will tickle your rear!" This is some corny sh*t right here. Everything that could make you think that nitzhonot can be some goofy sounding music is well represented here. Repetitive eye rolling samples, the rampaging up and down arpeggios, and the changes in direction. I heard someone describe nitzho as goa on speed. Maybe, but goa doesn't usually use the slow down tempo as a prominent feature. No, I would equate it to goa's flamboyant and much gayer cousin. This is full-on Patrick Stewart facepalm music as far as I'm concerned. Not Nitzho's proudest moment. No I got it...Know what this is? A daycare run amok. The kids have tied up the adults and it's an endless loop of fart jokes , boogers on fingers, and Jake and the Neverland Pirates. How the f*ck can you take this organ grinder music seriously? I'd dropkick the monkey turning the crank on this sh*tshow if I didn't think PETA would sue me.
  5. You know what I got out of this compilation initially? Holy sh*t The Delta actually made a track not named As a Child I Could something something about a ceiling. That track showed up more places than a Rihanna song. Yeah it also had guitar in it, but the vibe was appealing to me. Maybe it was just cause it was different. But for me the real reason to get this compilation is Hyperion's Sunflower. And here you get it in all it's frenetic hyper goa trance glory. Not mixed, but the full track. The surprise for me (and a welcome one) was the last track. Who knew Quadra had that kind of goa nastiness in him? I sure didn't. Luminus did a good job, Psychaos was indeed that, and the Buddhas do their foresty, detuned goa thing. Haunting and easy to get caught up in the blissful noise. To someone who isn't into go though I can see how you would get a "What the f*ck are you listening to?" look. Red Hair Hospital will most assuredly grow on me. All things considered this is a pretty bad ass compilation!
  6. "You all are a bunch of f*cking idiots!!" Nice manners babe! A mixture of goa and nitzhonot that flirts with silliness and raw power. Indeed I get the sense they were trying to strike a balance between the two subgenres. There are some piercing, white hot 303's on a track like TMO from Luminus and Bull's Eye really hits the mark. Man my writing is slipping. I was expecting Inspector Gadget to be a hot mess, I mean...how could you not? But all I kept thinking at the 5'24" minute mark was..."F*ck, three more minutes of this crap?" I liked Alien Landing with it's intensity even though it had that rising and falling synth line. And that's what these tracks do. There are parts in all or most that are engaging and exhibit that raw power, but they also contain a bit of the 'ol eye roll. They also seem to love the rolling kick. A lot. Add to the fact that they kinda all sound the same...and you get a CD that is hardly an essential part of a collector's library. If you wanna throw a copy my way because of my good looks and your kind nature who am I to criticize? I'm just not going to be actively searching this one out.
  7. Artist: Various Title: Another Definition of Goa Trance Label: Tetsuo Date: October, 1996 1. Semsis - Pile 2. Arcana - Orion 3. O.O.O.D. - Cobra 4. Unconscious Collective - Fluorostani Transcendance 5. Syb Unity Netwerk - Tripperspaced (Live Mix) 6. Glass Walker - Quasi 7. Sun Dog - Touch The Sun 8. Psyclan - Energy Flux 9. David Craig - Bewildered 10. Section-X - Galaxian (Section-X Mix) "I was going to the worst place in the world and I didn't even know it yet." Clearly this is the feeling of dread and shame experienced by all who realize that a trip to Wal-Mart is inevitable. This was a pretty good compilation that combined some goa trance along with some of the acid variety. The lines between the two can be blurred as the use of the 303 is rampant in both. So just a few notes... Pile- One of the greatest tracks that ever came from this project. It's dark and pulsating yet still manages to be melodic Orion- Great track that is only held back by it's repeated sample use. Cobra- A track from the Oood goa heyday and one of my favorites. Tripperspaced (Live Mix)- Any compilation with a Syb Unity Netwerk track is instantly better. Fact. Sundog- A track that seems to make it on every compilation every made. Not bad, but not superb either. Galaxian- A speedy stormer, but after 3 minutes you've basically heard all you need to. The really good tracks can be found elsewhere so this is hardly essential. But a good compilation nonetheless.
  8. Balance...Balance... I apologize if I offended you, of course that was not my intention. Your brother should be commended for his work. Pedophilia is a terrible, terrible thing and I believe there is a special place in hell for those people. However... I didn't get the memo on what I could and couldn't make light off. I live in a free country (perhaps you do as well) and I firmly believe that there is no topic that cannot be joked about. Have you read my reviews? I know you have and I have teased almost every religion and nationality, put so many pictures and gifs of butts and boobs one may call me misogynistic, and I of course have made fun of myself and my country most of all. Hell I even put a pic of a concentration camp in one of my reviews. But here's the thing. Not every joke works. Some fall flat. Sometimes what I think is humorous in the US is offensive in other countries. But the minute we start saying that group is not to be joked about then the slope has been slipperied. Cliche I know, but it's true. So I would again apologize to you for offending you, but what I won't do is stop doing what I do. As far as being immature, well...guilty. I'll take that hit. With that being said...I think there is one thing we can all agree on... Dr. Spook should stay away from Timewarp.
  9. Thanks for the clarification Renato! Clearly something was different. I'm glad you said something because I was getting ready to tell Hector to stop doing lines of coke of that Indonesian pre-teen and pay attention to what's being compiled!
  10. Artist: Tickets Title: Dreaming of Places Label: Timecode Records Date: December, 2008 1. Intro 2. Dark Fears 3. City In Japan 4. Harpsicheek 5. Finish What You Started 6. Aurora Borealis 7. The Quest Rmx 8. Circumstances 9. Massive Attack - Heat Miser (Tickets Remix) 10. Sympathise and Mesmerize Karma-karma-karma-karma-karma... Bringing back a classic! I mean...well, I didn't, uh...I didn't think it was a classic when it came out. But, like celebrities doing community service you pick up a few things. After his album Timelapse I was expecting more of the same and was a little disappointed he didn't deliver. No, you know what, disappointed wasn't the right word. I wasn't ready. This is a different direction yet he still hangs on to the signature Timecode rawness and brutality. The thump and acid are still there, but it's a deeper work. No longer is it just four on the floor power. It's rooted in cinematic grandeur not unlike Talpa's The Art of Being Non. Layers invite dark minor key exploration with a focus on atmosphere. Creativity abounds and it also brings that danceable Timecode swagger. It's like when the Beasties Paul's Boutique came out. I didn't get it, and thought those guys were done. I wasn't ready. And they f*cking kept on till that one guy died. But just feast on that Circumstances climax. Quality work that I can now appreciate. Looking forward to his next album. Now...can someone tell me what the f*ck Harpsicheek is? Beatspace Timecode Bandcamp
  11. Artist: Various Title: The Call of Goa Vol. 2 Label: Timewarp Records Date: May, 2014 CD1 01. Sky Technology - Life or Coma Dream 02. Fractal Geometry & Bionic Delay - Dancing Shiva II 03. Celestial Intelligence - Evolution of the Atmospheres 04. Javi & SkoOma - Flubber 05. 01-N - Re:Glitch 06. Siam - Transparent Feelings 07. Doruk - End of the Beginning 08. Trinodia - Re-Mote 09. Timofey & JBC Arkadii - This are the Asteroids 09. Nostromosis - The Road Home 10. Lunar Dawn - Ananke When I hear great goa trance it's like a good meal. The smells, the presentation, and of course the taste. All the senses are satisfied and you just sit back, undo the belt, and fart your way into a blissful slumber. Over here we call it da itis. And that's how things were shaping up when I ordered the second installment of the Call of Goa series. Celestial Intelligence, Sky Technology, and Javi and Sk00ma began the meal nicely and it smelled great. The next six tracks however were like trying to swallow a pine cone. Six. In a row. It wasn't just subpar goa that sounded raw and amateurish, but some were hardly goa at all. Not that I have anything against psytrance (Lord knows how many thousands I've spent on it), but if I'm eating at a the goa restaurant save the avant-garde sh*t for those California daisy huggers. It was either too fluffy or lacked the depth I'm used to from Timewarp. And Trinodia...what it the name of refried beans was going on there? I'm convinced that this was the first track he ever produced. On a Casio. That may or may not have been plugged in. Luckily disc one came to an end and the second began. Light fare from Psilocybernetics (interesting downtempo) and Jayex to be sure, but things became more palatable with a very un-nitzhonot funky track by Persistent Aura. It's not until the pairing of Imba and Ephedra that you get the first storming goa track. The rest are decent, but certainly nothing amazing. It ends on a real good effort from Lunar Dawn (check out his debut on Neogoa). Man that pine cone is gonna hurt coming out. I love Timewarp and usually I send nothing but glowing praise their way, but I came away from this disappointed. How could I not based on their previous output? This was like going to a fancy restaurant and expecting a well prepared meal only to catch a peek behind the kitchen door and see your dinner come out of the microwave. Putting together a double CD sounds difficult and I think this would've been better as a single disc. Too much filler and very few gems. Of course the ones that are great are really great and as a collector I bought it. Will probably buy the third one if they decide to make it, but do me a favor...spend some more time in the kitchen. 12. Artist: Various Title: Re-Start Label: Utopia Records Date: September, 2005 1. Bizarre Contact - Freedom 2. Phanatic - Restart 3. Passenger - Tranceforum 4. Vibe Tribe - Liberation 5. Freaked Freakuency - Our Way To Paradise 6. Ananda Shake - Fashion TV 7. Elec3 - Stigma 8. Deedrah - Self Oscillation (Ananda Shake Remix) 9. Alternative Control - Have Mercy "We are the ones who must transform the dream." Hit that button Stimpy! Hit it! Make them all go away! If you're searching for that compilation that is jam packed with color by numbers full-on well step right up! Need more guitars in your psytrance? No problem! Tired of intricate melodies and deep atmospheres? Look no further. This is cotton candy sweet for those who want to remain unencumbered with thinking outside the box. Acid samples seem out of place in the way that Neil Diamond would throwing down a freestyle at the Apollo. And holy sh*t did Ananda Shake f*cking castrate the classic Deedrah goa track. Criminal. Aside from Our Way To Paradise this is the proverbial turd in a punch bowl. Why the hell do I keep doing this to myself? Psyshop - Not available? Consider it a public service.
  13. Silly boy Much like the misguided (and unfortunately no longer with us) rocket scientist above perhaps you're doing it wrong. We're talking about goa trance here not long division. If I may offer a suggestion? I come at this album as if Kate Upton fell into my lap before I was married and had two loveable but lifesucking parasites. From all angles. I think we can all agree that The Score is f*cking magical so let's set that sweet, sweet chocolate aside. I Am Locotus is a sinister downtempo bit of alien goa that should have you looking nervously skyward. Dragon Birth has old school swagger and bounce where the 303's go for the kill shot. 24db is great and will get the toes tapping without being spectacular. The title track is groovy and accumulates layers as it moves forward with its acid splatter style. One of my faves. Sunrise Zone has more of that delicious acid. I mean, it says it right there in the track title. Why would they lie Penzo? Why would they lie. (Please note intended sarcasm) Quantum Gravity is more uptempo, bouncing around madness that still maintains its bite. Homo Universalis stomps heavily committing heinous acts of skullduggery while making a pit stop at that f*cked up star wars cantina. Besides it has the word homo in it and everybody loves that. Homo. And...here come the PC police. While Physical Reality was the weakest track on the album for me it was still a fairly solid entry. So there you go. After I turned Kate into a hot pretzel and hooked her up with wtih the best 3 minutes of her life (including 2 min and 45 sec of solid cuddle time) the roadmap to a good album is laid out. "Don't move! I'll be right there baby...just trying to get my pants..." *tugging on pants and trips into coffee table making tremendous noise* "No, no wait! Where you going!?!" Zio604 Bandcamp
  14. Artist: Various Title: Endangered Species Label: Noize Conspiracy Records Date: October, 2006 1. Void - Burn 2. Menog - Men Are Monsters 3. Toxic - Perfect Crime 4. Claw In Noize - Conspiracy Files 5. Psychotic Micro - Loosing It 6. Delsyd - Zero Gravity 7. Shift - Cerebral Cortex (Rmx) 8. Psychotic Demon - Voisses Conspiracy 9. Neuromotor Vs. Electrocult - Rombotic Syndrom Either you're hung over and went to someone else's place of business or you just slogged your way through this thick, swampy mess of a compilation. One track. One f*cking track. The rest are beyond yawn intensive. This endangered species made me want to drop kick every f*cking penguin and zebra I saw. When you're shooting for mediocrity...and miss the bar by a country mile...something stinks in sucktown. This thing is full of boring full-on. I should get an award for making it through this sh*tshow. Even the one track that didn't make me want to back over an albino rhinoceros wasn't his best. There are so many more pleasurable things you could do besides listen to this. Like set yourself on fire. Psyshop - Ah, see...there's your problem. The decimal point is in the wrong place. Move to the left about...two spaces.
  15. Artist: Asia2001 Title: Psykadelia Label: Suntrip Records Date: April, 2015 1. Anafuzz 2. Orion 2 3. Eolis 2 4. Kalimba 5. Replicants 6. Sherkan 2 7. Reykjavik 8. Flirt Filter $350.94 Let that number sink in. Lotta money. You could do a lot with that kind of green. You could get about 15 private lap dances in a row in West Philly. Or...you know, one if we're paying by the metric ton. Damn...that sh*t is straight hood. You could get an absolute f*ckton of Twinkies. Why you gotta be like dat? We had some good times. Or...or...and hear me out. You could've said f*ck my car payment like someone from Discogs did and purchase this album. Yes, just the album. That's right, buy the original and a n*gga be walkin' to work. This is arguably one of the best goa trance albums that Gilbert Thévenet ever released. We all want this album yet we also don't want to ditch our whip and have to take the f*cking bus. 37 minutes into a 5 hour bus ride and Short Round fears that his celebratory Taco Bell bon voyage lunch will soon arouse suspicion. And let's be honest most of us only have the download. Don't act like you don't. So I think a little gratitude can once again be thrown towards Suntrip for channeling their inner DAT Records and re-releasing this beast from the golden days. Starting with the artwork it's highly recognizable for those of us in the know. A psychedelic Buddhist alien practicing meditation? He's so shiny! And now with increased shininess! The kind folks at Suntrip have kept the artwork in its original form for the most part. There is a new CD tray and the art on the CD was tweaked a little bit. An album however is always going to be judged on the music contained within and this one certainly doesn't disappoint. Spiraling melodies abound, twisting and extending. It's vintage, but instead of smelling like the bathroom after one of grand dad's "thinking sessions" it's old school. Layers, aggressive leads, and a seemingly endless supply of bounce to the ounce. This is one of those classics that starts out in beast mode and gets stronger as you get sucked further into its psychedelic vortex. Looking at the tracklist is like reading the ten commandments. Anafuzz sizzles like Though some of the sounds are dated, it works. Supremely well. Having trouble figuring out how to totally kill a dance floor? Have your recent DJ sets driven the kids to treat the dance floor like it was covered in land mines? This is one long dance session where you can push play, go get a drink, have a smash and the crowd will still love it. My personal problem with the CD has nothing to do with what Suntrip has done. Nope, it's Orion 2 which suffers from sample fatigue, but even with that I can see how that would entrance the masses. Other than that this is another jewel in the Suntrip crown bringing a thin slice of heaven from the past back to where it rightfully belongs. An album like this needs to be heard and is now accessible to a wider swath of fans and people who are soon to be fans. It's a collector's dream come true. Thanks Suntrip. You just saved me over $338. Suntrip

    V/A - Glory Day

"There are stranger things out there in the sea than you could ever imagine." Even the black keebler elf is put off by this. Do yourself a favor and don't waste your time searching for this one. Not everything that is old is gold. Sometimes it's just old and sh*tty. If you found one of the first cell phones would you use it? And I don't mean in the hipster douchebag "It's cool cause it's retro" kind a way. Don't be that guy. You know and I know that the only thing that antiquated thing is good for is a door stop. The production on this one sounds really inferior to a lot of stuff from that time period. Forget today's stuff, it's not even close to that level of quality. None of the melodies endeared itself to me. More like they were a mosquito whose sole purpose was to annoy me. There are moments on some tracks where they were headed in the right direction, but few and far between. Illegal Sunrise and Psychologic Disorder really attempted to bring the heat and had a SImon Posford craziness to it, but that is of course offset by the kookiness of the nitzhonot. But all in all it's a miss. My man's rating above seems fair.
  17. Artist: Various Title: Retrodelic Vibes 2 Label: Avatar Records Date: February, 2005 1. Masaray - Time Traveler of Trance 2. Doof - Let's Turn On 3. Cydonia - Shambala 4. Electric Universe - Luna Overdrive 5. Psychaos - Spatial Distortion 6. Kopfuss Resonator & Jorg - Whipbird 7. Space Tribe - The Great Spirit (Hallucinogenic Remix) 8. Talking Souls - Karma 209 9. Witchcraft - Witchcraft Magic 10. Man With No Name - Sly-Ed Stop what you're doing right...now...and, and just...*mouth agape* What the f*ck was I talking about? Oh yeah, ladies...in about 1 hour...maybe two...stop what you're doing and go order this beast if you haven't already. The second installment of the Retrodelic series is pure bliss. Power, melody, and insane tracks from yesteryear. Every single one of them is a blast. How many times have you seen a brilliant lineup on paper only to come away feeling like someone pissed in your cornflakes? Well I'm here to tell you, you're cornflakes are fine. This is the real deal. Acid spirals, shrieking leads...it's all here. Like PKS wrote on Discogs you probably have a lot of these tracks already, but to have them all in one place is magic. I cannot recommend this highly enough. And ladies...I've been a bad boy. Psyshop
  18. Artist: Various Title: Psychedelic Picnic Label: Mushroom Mafia Records Date: January, 2003 1. Beat Sentient - Myoclonic Twitch 2. Xatrik - Level 3 3. Nimbler - U.V. Pagan Pilots (Clonex Remix) 4. Clonex Vs. Rinkadink - Purple Chino (Rinkadink Remix) 5. Phyx - Cold Fusion 6. Artifakt - Composers Grave 7. Cannabidroid - Dedication 8. Shift - Breakpoint 9. Sho Pi - The Rift "You have no idea what I'm talking about I'm sure. Don't worry...you will...someday" Ummmm...yeeeeaaaah. I don't want to know. I'm pretty sure the parents of the 5 Hooters waitresses you swallowed are looking for their daughters. This is another early 2000's compilation that was beginning to show where the South African sound was heading. Notice I said beginning. Night time psytrance that wasn't darkpsy, with dark melodies. Hell it's full of future Timecode artists and managers so they might've said "F*ck this, we can do this for our own label!" But like a baby that still sh*ts itself, you gotta crawl before you can walk. It's about finding your groove. And this one was still crawling. For example Xatrik's track Level 3 was a minimal, boring offering that needed a few more levels. The Clonex and Rinkadink remix were more of the same. I mean it's damn near false advertising...look at the cover. All those people gathered ready to dance and these artists are making f*cking lullabyes. Things get a little harder when the Timecode crew steps up, but it's far from their crowning achievement. You would think an almost 10 minute track from the Artifakt would be appealing, but I assure you it is not. So if you're in the market for some minimal sounding rough drafts from artists that would get exponentially better I'm afraid it's not available through the regular channels. I see at this time there are some kind fellows willing to take $70 of your money on Discogs. However I imagine it also comes with a hand painted picture of a middle finger with the caption "Dumbass." So there's that. C'mon...unless somebody died or has a sex tape there is absolutely no reason to fork over that kind of cash.
  19. Artist: Various Title: Psionic Temple Label: Digital Psionics Date: November, 2006 1. Abomination - Lost 2. Concept - Syndrum 3. Shift - Project Neutrino 4. Dark Nebula - Soul Bruiser 5. Psywalker - Dream Weaver 6. Geko - Kill As Many As We Can Find 7. Bon - Regulated Power 8. Electrypnose - Misunderstood Rage 9. Psyboriginal - Sexadelic 10. Fractal Glider - Only A Lifetime "Should I get on all fours?" Yes. It will make it that much easier to thrust my boot up your ass. Seriously are you kidding me? What are you 12? Maybe putting those juvenile samples in your music and then blasting them through loud speakers at a party magically separates women from their panties in Europe. In which case can you teach me to be a DJ and I'll be right over. But let me tell you over on this side of the pond it makes me cringe. Psyboriginal's masturbatory opus aside this compilation in the Psionic series isn't half bad. Unfortunately if you get 50% on a test you still have to go to summer school like a dumbass while DJ's blast the panties off chicks at the pool. Digital Psionics is a night time trance label that was very prolific, just take a look at how many installments are in this series alone. The compilation begins with a tsunami rendered earthquake of goodness coming from Abomination, Concept, and Shift. Power incarnate with dark melodies. Soul Bruiser wasn't bad, but put me in the camp of those who feel Dark Nebula's tracks aren't that memorable. Psywalker was good even if I think he tends to ramble. Like that guy at work who can't get to the f*cking point. After that it's a sh*tshow. Geko and Fractal Glider bore the pants off me and the rest lack any sort of punch whatsoever. In like a thunderstorm out like a mouse fart. I'm with you Jerry. Who the f*ck is in charge over there? Thank God I only paid 3 bucks for this. Psyshop Beatspace
  20. True unfortunately. Those stones were stunning though. Perhaps we should post the link so other Psynewsers could see it?
  21. Joske such a tease...A double CD of Ethereal would FLY off the shelves. Then you would have enough money to start that stone painting business. Mandalas for all!
  22. Since old is new and everyone is eating it up, there are some old school masters that haven't been represented. I'm glad we got some remixes from Astral, but what about some elephants in the room? Holophonic released it digitally, but as a collector like you guys I would love to have a hard CD copy of Retro: Vol. 1 & Vol. 2 And how about MFG? I know the lineup has changed, but surely they might have unreleased stuff. Hell I'd love some represses of their 4 classic albums! Ethereal works slowly per Anoebis, but maybe a reprint of Anima Mundi? Colorbox? Bypass Unit? Ominus, Miranda? And we are of course waiting for the big guns. Pleiadians. Would love to hear from those who may know the artists or be familiar with the process of getting it done. With the cavalcade of blasts from the past it has seriously whet my appetite for more of this goodness.
