  2. Hey everybody! Did you have a good Easter? Do anything fun lately? I hope so. Because I haven't had much fun. Nothing serious mind you, but I noticed that a lot of the reviews I posted have that annoying "posted image" thing on them. Nothing worse than trying to understand a joke and missing a huge piece of the puzzle. I haven't posted in a while so that I could go through and fix them. All of them. It was a pain in the ass, but since it was solely my fault I felt it had to be done. I'm sorry I haven't posted any reviews lately, but that is going to change. I have about 40 ready to go and will begin putting them up soon. If you find any reviews that have images missing please let me know. Send me a pm. Foul language is fine. It let's me know you care. Mdk
  3. I've always been quick to pile on with the criticism of CS (and with good reason), but this is very nice. Far from perfect or a classic in my opinion, but it is floaty and hypnotic. Even though it sounds dated, it is still an enjoyable listen. Easily the best album they've released. Mdk
  4. Artist: Various Title: Prana Remix EP Vol. 1 Label: Wakyo Records Date: December, 2013 1. Boundless (2013 Re-Edit) - Prana 2. Mugen (Astral Projection Remix) - Prana 3. Geomantik (Damir Ludvig Remix) -Prana You sons of bitches how the f*ck do you sleep at night? "On a mattress stuffed with dead presidents as I'm fellated by multiple porn stars." You...bastard. I meant metaphorically. Wakyo Records has released a three track EP of some classic Prana Tracks. You know cause everything old is new again and there's money to be made and we have to have constant proof that Astral Projection did not die in an erotic asphyxiation session gone wrong. The updated Boundless is juicy and crackles with electricity. It's good, but I didn't have a problem with the original. So it's like an answer to a question nobody asked. Well I didn't ask it. Mugen was one that was in dire need of a redo. But alas it became Astralized, homogenized, and sterilized, devoid of any passion or power. Their remix is better, but is it possible to go back in a time machine and have 1996 Astral give it a look-sie? Which brings me to the track that would clear out a pool as surely as if it took a massive dump in the shallow end. A house version? Why not just put it on in an elevator? Who did they think this lifeless wet noodle of a track would appeal to? The best thing that can be said about this track is that it bears zero resemblance to the original. How could you. I'm only linking to it for the purpose of saving the evidence. By the way great cover art. Thanks for putting in some overtime on that. Beatport Mdk
  5. Artist: Orca Title: Redefined Label: Fractal Records Date: November, 2013 1. Sweet Oblivion 2. Reduced To Dust 3. Other Mind 4. You Know 5. Magical Concoction 6. Sad Movies 2.0 7. Physical World 8. Humen Consciousness 9. Goash "Oh my God, the end is near!" The end of Orca maybe. Probably. Almost certainly actually. What the f*ck happened to you? This has to be the clearest case of alien abduction on record. It's the only explanation. The only thing redefined here is the direction of your music. From a guy who was once responsible for the psychedelic and hard hitting Fists of Fury you now make music that appeals to the lowest common denominator. Tired sounds, buildups, and unimaginative drivel. This is full-on that dumbs down psytrance. I'm still shaking my head...you couldn't intentionally make something this bad. Could you? Look I get it. While fiercely loyal the psychedelic crowd is a finicky bunch. Many a critically acclained artist will tell you as great as it is to have created something significant they would also really love to eat something more substantial than baloney sandwiches. The money is in the commercial music and it's probably nice to have money for gas. But I gotta tell you from a fan's perspective this is unlistenable. And Fractal Records...I expect way better from you. Sad albums make me cry. And this one is a Kleenex 4 boxer. One of the worst albums I've heard. Ever. Beatport Mdk
  6. Artist: Various Title: Undergrounded Label: Quantum Satis Records Date: January, 2014 01 - Ka-Sol - El Doktore (140 BPM) 02 - Zoon - Gate (Hada Remix) (144 BPM) 03 - Goch - Extemporary Devices (146 BPM) 04 - Schoiroideairis - Natural (148 BPM) 05 - Nirmanakayas - Deep Inside (147 BPM) 06 - Battle Of The Future Buddhas - Lacking It All (148 BPM) 07 - Grobians - Da Mind Twister (148 BPM) 08 - Taigan Sunset - Xmas Shoe Eater (148 BPM) 09 - Spirituz - Mind Warping Spirits (148 BPM) 10 - Cavedave - Bruced Lead (129 BPM) And now for something completely different. Dissonant sounds and dark journeys through a magic laden forest. That's the dream isn't it? Let's see what have we got here...Ka-Sol, yeah that track sounds like they handed in a rough draft, Gate is dreary wailing, but the Goch offering does it right. Dark and frightful it seems to strike the right balance between being terrifying and just putting a gun in your mouth. The cat in the blender style of Deep Inside shows the outright contempt for the swift justice of PETA, and Buddhas devolved into an evil trance like state brimming with tortuous screams of agony. Otherwise known as a drive through Harlem after midnight. The Grobians (Google wanted to call them the Fabiens, just sayin') is a bubbly pool of monotony. But at least nobody died during it. Actually I cannot prove that. Probably nobody died. Xmas Shoe Eater is my favorite due to its title of course, but also its funky swing and chuckling goblins. Liked Mind Warping Spirits also, some wicked fun. Lastly with the f*cking shocker of the week is some downtempo enter the dragon sh*t with Bruced Lead which would seem more appropriate on a Kaaya Project album than a forest compilation. Taken as a whole it sounds like someone spiraling into a wicked depression. This could be the soundtrack that a disturbed individual would use when he fantasizes about mowing down soccer moms in the produce department of Food Lion. If you have the slightest mental issue or irregularity please give this a wide berth. That said there is creativity here. And that's why I continue to listen to the forest and the dark stuff in the hope that an artist nails it and creates something mindblowing. Without making me want to eliminate the 10th grade of the local high school. Free at Ektoplazm Mdk
  7. Artist: Talpa Title: Emo Robot Label: Tesseract Studio Date: February, 2014 1. Emo Robot 2. Going Home ""Yesterday morning I woke up on the streets with a lollipop in my anus." See what you did you've confused Jackie Chan. Now he might try and make another movie. I think Goran is confused also. I do. This is what happens when you use aliases, you have to keep in character. Talpa = groundbreaking Art of Non psytrance. Riddler = funky yet eerie but wiggling progressive music. Same guy just different facets. This is a Talpa release. But it sounds like the Riddler. Aside from me trying to shoehorn him into boxes he himself created this is an interesting release. Emo Robot is the equivalent of a homosexual slap fight where juvenile robot voices trade barbs. But the electric effect is so throaty and funky I can't stop listening to it. Throw in that piano riff and disco hit and it sounds just like The Riddler. Going Home also has the eerie child-like melody characteristic of the Riddler, but there is also a Joe Satriani-esque guitar solo that I cannot stand. He won't you know. He won't stand for baloney! I don't know what Goran is doing these days. Expect the unexpected I suppose. Beatport Mdk
  8. Artist: Various Title: Sonic Solutions Label: Timecode Records Date: October, 2005 1. Bringdanoise (Broken Toy rmx) DAMAGE 2. Far Side DIGITAL TALK 3. Mutant Rebellion XTRA UNIT 4. There's a grapefruit stickin' out yo forehead! Ah this is one of the thoroughbreds in the Timecode stable. Run horsey run! Darkly melodic smashes tumble one after the other with well known artists doing the damage. Acid everywhere and grooves to keep the body moving. The trakcs are bursting with power and samples that add to the atmosphere. Only downside? Triskell and Phatmatix (Xtra Unit) only made one track together. But holy sh*t what a track. 9. Artist: Mumukshu Title: Time Passes At Various Speeds EP Label: Released on Ektoplazm Date: January, 2014 01 - Transformative Adventures (100 BPM) 02 - Parallel Planes (105 BPM) 03 - Time Passes At Various Speeds (105 BPM) 04 - Folding (108 BPM) Sounding more like something you'd order from a sushi restaurant Mumukshu is American Jacob Penn who has made something I can nod my head to. Bouncy breakbeats and plenty of bass sounds with melodies that give it a sense of grandeur. There are glitchy tendencies of course, but it's not just noise. Computer sounds are melded creatively with melody and the whole thing is rather juicy. Sometimes I think it can lose it's way, but definitely worth a listen. Free at Ektoplazm Mdk
  10. Artist: Lifeforms Title: Sub Standards EP Label: Iono Music Date: March, 2014 1. Sub Standards 2. Extraterrestrial If you like lush, atmospheric tapestries of sound in the psygressive vein then this duo is for you. It's a short two track ep, but not a measure is wasted. It's grand with effects and synths echoing toward the unreachable horizon. Gentle and forceful during the same track, this is living breathing music. If you're a fan of the Iono style (like I am) put your headphones on and just drift. Well done. Beatport Psyshop Mdk
  11. Artist: sHiFt Title: Red Line Label: Timecode Records Date: December, 2003 1. No more humans 2. White widow rmx 3. X-Trasensory 4. Centrifuge 5. Dont you know ? 6. Reflex 7. Digita D.N.A 8. Animated Logic 9. Infrared "First Trip? Well, don't worry things hardly ever f*ck up around here." You couldn't ask for a bigger kiss of death if you had a make out session under the bleachers with the grim reaper before 6th period history. How did that work out for you technician from Total Recall? Chis Hoy is a very important figure in psytrance as far as I'm concerned. When things were quiet he did it harder and louder. His first album provided an inkling as to where he was taking this music. It's a loud and abrasive look into a futuristic world. Full of mechanical scrapings and deep rumbling bass lines and loads of sci-fi samples. Infrared with its funky rhythmic sway and acid explosion is especially sweet. He hadn't put it all together just yet as it sounds fairly samey, but he was on his way. Timecode Bandcamp Mdk
  12. Artist: Hypnoxock Title: Rewritten By Shiva Label: Goa-Trance.com Date: February, 2014 1. On The Eve of the Revolt 2. No Time To Cry 3. Double Zero *stares intently. Sits back in chair and exhales deeply. Tilts head in concentration* Hypno... Hypnosh... Hypnozo... *shoves books off table angrily* F*ck! I can't do it. All I see is cock! F*cking cock! It's like some flamboyant Rorschach test! This duo from Spain is well accomplished. Their album Synthetic Resurrection was terrific and they're not shy about releasing free stuff over at Ektoplazm. With a short three track ep they open our ears to their goa sound. On the Eve of the Revolt is a delicious short intro that ripples with mystery. My only complaint was that it was too short. Homies bringing the downtempo like Ra. Not Time To Cry is your typically good goa track which goes into overdrive with the help of a well placed Leonidas sample. Double Zero is the same, but the break is absolutely fantastic. Some rich storytelling right here. Feel it. Still impressed with these guys. Their productions are always warm and vibrant. They breathe life into their music even if I can't pronounce their name. Welcome to the fray my friends. Beatport Mdk
  13. Holy sh*t enough already! The repeated sample usage from Olli is well documented and with hindsight an intervention would've gone a long way. I can't even make the stop me if you've heard this one before joke because well...you've heard this one before. Olli has been around for a long time, but like a lot of students there are some subjects which elude him. Goa trance unfortunately is his. Whether it was because he wanted to be different, didn't apply himself, or was ridiculously high he floated in that trance purgatory somewhere between psy and goa where his music had elements of both, but he wasn't really that good at either of them. I consider him a late bloomer where he found his stride when he began to create the night time full-on sound. So aside from the samples the tracks are so long. 5 minutes into the 2nd track felt like 20. I'd swear it's two minutes of music and then looped for the other 7. There are good parts in tracks, but they are overshadowed by the larger more tedious moments. Of course it's not true for all of the tracks. If the master files for 54 Bass Drums were lost in a fire I don't think we fly the flag at half mast. One thing all the tracks have in common is repetition. Repetition in every aspect. Samples, structure...you name it. This album doesn't go at the top of Olli's resume. To me, it sounds like the music fell asleep at the wheel and then plowed into a farmers market. Then we're all standing around wondering how this could've happened and should seniors get their license taken away. But ah, you...you don't mind if I scoop up a few bags of those Honeycrisp apples do ya? Mdk
  14. Let's go to defcon 4...we've got a Nic Cage confusion alert! This is happening people! Olli. No really, Olli...I know this was made 14 years ago, so what's done is done. Water under the bridge. But Nicholas Cage is confused. You see he's had some experience with what you did. You might have noticed that he's been making the same movie for a couple decades and right now he's wondering how could you not know you made the same album 4 years in a row? Long, subpar goa tracks with samples that are still kicking a dead horse. Sure there were good parts in most of the tracks, but the amount of filler material is staggering. The Ultraviolet Catastrophe, The Future's Right Now, 2000 O.D. The Pope album is no different. Who am I kidding, he ain't listening to this. I'm sure he's more concerned with making the world look ridiculous with his garish clothing line.
  15. Hypnotic chasing the almighty dollar. That ruined what could've been the most potent 1-2 punch in goa trance. The only thing missing is an awesome cover. Mdk
  16. Artist: Bogtrotter Title: Sonic Visions EP Label: None Date: December, 25 2013 01 - Bogtrotter - Mystery Beneath (72 BPM ; 7/4) 02 - Bogtrotter - Sonic Visions (68 BPM) 03 - Grouch - Perfukt (Bogtrotter Remix) (70 BPM ; 6/4) 04 - Bogtrotter - Unknown (80 BPM) 05 - Bogtrotter - The Escape (70 BPM) 06 - Bogtrotter - Dismal Direction (74 BPM) This is some slow twisted sh*t. Know how I know? For starters, there are 6 tracks and the size is 66.6MB. "I am evil Homer! I am evil Homer!" Whattya need a f*cking roadmap? That's some evil sh*t. You know that's what he was going for it's not a f*cking accident. Do you know how hard it is to make a file size come out to that exact amount? Second, look at the bpms. Barely average a c*nt hair above 70. Waiting for the last bit of ketchup to tumble out of the bottle clocks in at 80. The producer is from the Midwest and it's a known fact that the portal to hell is around there some where. And then there's Charlie Sheen. Yeah he's on here. And he's "winning." There are quicksand slow beats with underworld bubbling. Dubby basses and satanically manipulated samples. Even the track titles are dark. It's not for me, but I can appreciate the effort and attention to detail. This isn't just some cut and paste sh*t. Free at Ektoplazm Mdk
  17. Artist: Various Title: Memories From Goa Madness Label: Goa Madness Records Date: November, 2013 1. Into The Vast Dark Ocean EPHEDRA AND OMNIVOX 2. Overdose RADICAL DISTORTION 3. Initially ASMIK 4. Pray For Mars MERR0W 5. Light Up The Sky OMNIVOX 6. Ancient Aliens RADICAL DISTORTION 7. Trip Through The Heart Of The Galaxy EPHEDRA 8. Psychoactive LIQUID FLOW 9. Jurassic Attack AGNETON *Sitting on toilet typing review on phone* Dude, what si...si... "D-E! D-E!! Motherf*cker why won't you type D-E!?!" Great so now I can't finish my review while I'm on the hopper. I'm trying to multitask but wordpad on the Samsung is making that a tad difficult. Hit the fan. Oh aliendna99 didn't your mother ever teach you if you don't have anything nice to say, say it with gifs? See? See...it's not so fun to wear the cone of shame is it? But why so abrubtly negative? Was your jacket covered in minus signs still at the dry cleaners? I'm poking fun and he is entitled to his opinion as we all are. One thing we share is a love of goa trance so I figure the more labels that decide to release it the greater chance for variety. And we all win when that happens right? I've ripped Goalogique for their first two compilations as I felt they were subpar so I suppose that he's doing the same thing (although from his post it seems he did it from solely samples and we know how that can go), but I won't deny that label my support. This business is too hard. Now to be fair he's not calling them out because Goa Madness Records is a new label, but because he feels the music is just homogenous new school same old same old stuff. And to a certain degree he's correct. "Dude, what side are you on?" Both. None. Wigro I'm Switzerland. But I agree with his complaint kinda. If you're one of those who believe that goa trance these days sounds like it's churned out like processed food (it's not) then you probably won't have many positive things to say about this release. It certainly isn't going to rewrite the "formula" for goa trance production. But you know what not many do. The compilation opens with an absolute ripping track by Ephedra and Omnivox. Pure class. I really enjoyed Ageneton's high energy track and Psychoactive is one of the best tracks ever to come from Liquid Flow in my opinion. And the Merr0w and Radical Distortion tracks? Thick melodies and piercing leads that lend themselves to maximum twirling. The only one I wasn't thrilled with was the Asmik track. The key change didn't sit well with me and at almost 9 minutes it felt twice that. Still not bad at all for their very first track. If you're looking for goa trance this compilation is quite good. Leads scream with bite and it's very danceable. The sound quality is also fantastic. Wait a minute...what was the problem again? Well worth my money and a great debut compilation. Great job Goa Madness crew! Psyshop Beatspace Mdk
  18. Artist: Deliriant Title: Unstoppable EP Label: Psyology Date: April, 2013 1. Unstoppable - Deliriant 2. Weyland - Technicolor (Deliriant Vs. Mad Piper) 3. Hologram - Deliriant & Z3ro "Similarly, our bodies are holograms of the universe. Which means everything that can possibly be known is already recorded in our bodies." That's great. Really, it is. But I just wanted to get a lottery ticket and a pack of Swishers. Deliriant is Shane Renew and has released two very good albums of twilight madness called Chemistry and Miracle Cure. This ep is three tracks of the same type of stuff. Acid deluges and lasers with futuristic samples. Darkly melodic in the powerful South African style. If you're a fan of this music then don't hesitate to check this one out. Don't let the cover by the 7th grader who flunked out of wood shop fool you. Seriously I almost missed this one due to its...hideousness. Beatport Mdk
  19. Artist: Braincell Title: 5th Album Label: BooM! Records Date: December, 2013 1. Earthlinked 2. Clash Of Power 3. Distorted Energy 4. Melting Point 5. Circles 6. Tricky Trippy 7. Space Union 8. New Cycle 9. Waverider 10. Setting Things Free With his 5th album Ralph Knobloch decided save all of his creativity for the music, essentially telling the title of the album to go f*ck itself. Which I guess is the way to go. Would rather have a brilliant album and a generic title than a really imaginative one with a sh*t sandwich on the inside. Getting to the music I have gone back and forth with this release having written two reviews. I know what you're thinking... Don't you have a life? Yes I do, but music is a big part of it and I want to get it right. If you compare this to his first three albums (not coincidentally the ones released by Glowing Flame Records) this continues the trend of Intelligent Being where the melodies are pared down and less prevalent than those earlier albums. It's thumping psy with electric energy for sure. The sound is very visceral and liquid with the feel that is distinctly Braincell. When he does unfurl the melodies the taste of goa isn't far behind. However when I gave it a go the first few times it didn't grab me. The album doesn't have any tracks that stand out or are stellar. That said, this is one of those where repeated listens have put me in his Imax and now I see it all. It's a solid release that while not nearly as brilliant as Transformation of Reality it's still one I am happy to have in my collection. Psyshop Beatspace Mdk
  20. Artist: Various Title: Lunar Dawn - Blessings From Irij Remixes Label: Neogoa Date: December, 2013 01 - Blessings From Irij (Screw Loose Remix) (145 BPM) 02 - Blessings From Irij (Trinodia Remix) (138 BPM) 03 - Blessings From Irij (Sky Technology Remix) (148 BPM) 04 - Blessings From Irij (Imba Remix) (145 BPM) 05 - Blessings From Irij (Perfect Blind Remix) (120 BPM) 06 - Blessings From Irij (Decadent Sympozium Remix) (147 BPM) 07 - Blessings From Irij (GoaTree Remix) (138 BPM) 08 - Blessings From Irij (Original Mix) (136 BPM) I salute you sir. I salute you for making an album of remixes the right way. No full-on clones, no paint by numbers sketches, no unimaginative drivel that makes me want to jump out of a f*cking window. The original track by the Lunar Dawn duo has its origins in Slavic folklore and we all know that means vampires because what the f*ck else could it mean? Hold it...I'm getting word that it actually means paradise. Surely they mean a vampire paradise where they walk freely in daylight with harems of busty virgins. *Sigh* If only... Neogoa has become a fixture on the goa trance scene much like Suntrip where you expect the highest quality. The all digital label does it for free and has earned its bones. So what you get is the original track and a bunch of remixes some some of the best and brightest in the genre. A shocker I know. Seems like they incorporated parts of the original and then went on to make it their own. You know...like the f*cking definition of a remix? Know how I know this works? It's not because I'm a damn genius although the evidence speaks for itself. It's because I don't think the original is that special. No offense. It's not bad, just a personal preference. But each remix takes the original and moves it along a different path. Especially Imba's. I don't know what he was remixing, but it sounded like something else entirely. And over 11 minutes? I had to take a piss break halfway through. Trinodia gets all dancey and rhythmic while Perfect Blind serves up a downtempo space trip. Silly Perfect Blind...there are no such things as space vampires. What the f*ck is that? What's with the unibrow? It's a good track even if it sounded like a slowed up version of the original. The ones I didn't care for were the Decadent Sympozium and the Goatree remix. The former was too euphoric although I appreciated the way they worked in the original during the break. The latter was a little too...too...what's the word. Maybe that's a little too critical, but you get the idea. Then again the original was medieval sounding also. Still, it's a remix album that is done right and if you liked the original or even if you didn't, these fresh goa takes will make you smile. Free at Ektoplazm Mdk
  21. What a great album. I'm not going to get into the discussion as to whether this is better than WOS or HG because that's a losing battle. This is a perfect example of the sum being greater than even the great parts. It's dreamy, smooth, uplifting, positive, gentle, melancholy and ideal for headphone listening under the stars. I could've done without M (sounds like they played all the sounds at one time) and Right Where It Ends should've been placed farther down the track list. But this is worth your time and a great downtempo album. Mdk
  22. Artist: Tryon Title: Magnetic Lines EP Label: Fractal Records Date: September, 2013 1. Natural Energy 2. Surprise Box (feat. Sinful Reactions) 3. Epic Waves 4. The Keeper (Tryon Remix) - Digital Talk This is an absolute bomb of an EP. If you love the twilight madness like I do then do not hesitate to pick this up. Worth every penny. Each track is a thunderous IED of acid shrapnel and concussive booming that will lay waste to subwoofers everywhere. Telmo is part of the next wave of nighttime marauders and he has taken it to that next level. This is full of dark and powerful sounds that keep the adrenaline flowing. So head to your nearest mosh pit but leave the valuables at home. Sh*t is likely to get broken. Beatport Mdk
  23. Artist: Android Spirit Title: Synthetic Organism Label: Timecode Records Date: January 2014 1. Omdma 2. Kirobo The Robot 3. Swirl In Unity 4. Born In The Desert (feat. Distant Touch) 5. Targaryen Blood 6. High As A Kite 7. Freedom South Africa 8. Tokolojoe 9. Remember (Android Spirit edit) - Tickets Timecode. "B*itch get down here! Sh*t! This motherf*cker is heavy! Do you know how many D batteries I had to buy!?!" Really think Apple missed the boat not using that as their slogan. Anyway, Timecode. The very name makes my windows rattle with anticipation. This label has been releasing albums true to the night time South African sound for over a decade. Trojan, The Turning, New Blood, both Retrospectives...and that's just some of the compilations. They're the Suntrip of the dark continent where each album is an almost instabuy. Having spoken at length with the guy who runs Timecode these days I can tell you that he is exceedingly nice and seems to have a direction for the label. And that's good. But in the world of psytrance where you're only as good as your last release what is in store for us the listening public? Android Spirit is the teamup of Timecode mainstay Tickets (Josef Summs) and that very polite label manager Till Daksinamurti. If I'm being honest I would tell you that I'm unfamiliar with this project. Can't catch all the releases now can I? Do they bring back the glory days of Timecode or are they forging a new path? Omdma- Chants. lasers, and eerie piano? Pretty cool and that's just the first track. Kirobo the Robot- "Kirobo the Robot was exposed to zero gravity before being blasted into space." And wouldn't you know it the f*cker left before paying the cable bill. This is dark with a chip on its shoulder that undergoes several twists. It has that massive Tickets sound all over it. Now we're talking. Swirl in Unity- "No barrier, no boundaries...nothing to hold us down." The acid is here so a good track, but not as engaging as some of the others. Perhaps a little too generic. Born in the Desert- "If we ride together, we ride for justice!" Apparently the sample was better than the Lone Ranger movie. With a Principles of Flight symphonic quality it's another dark and powerful track. Targaryen Blood- "..." Yeah, I have no f*cking idea what he was saying. Probably something about porn cause it's always about porn. Thumping like a migraine the leads echo with aggressive attitude. There is mucho adrenaline to be found here. This is what it would sound like if Leonidas was behind the decks. High As a Kite- "You're high as a f*cking kite!" "Oh man...I have no idea what's going on. So f*cking high right now. Are you going to the beach? Don't forget to...oh man...I don't remember how that goes." *Brushes self off* "Do I still look high?" This one goes out to fans of Pineapple Express. The samples make it as it builds momentum and becomes a good rumbler. Freedom South Africa- "It's easy to love people that's a long ways away from us. But can you love yourself?" More rolling leads, lasers and thumping beats. This is what Timecode does and they do it well. Tokolojoe- Ah the wild and unrestrained chaos is front and center with this juicy blaster. The layers coalesce into a nice yummy powerful track. Remember (Android Spirit Edit)- "Time erases everything." There are not enough f*cking erasers in the public school system to...Look, I'm no vet, but I think you're gonna need a lot more Conan. The closer had rapid leads that were squeezed for all they were worth. As usual the bass was punchy and the acid splashed in nicely. I was wondering if they still had it. Had some of the luster come off this diamond? The last few albums from Timecode weren't the bombastic breath stealers that were their trademark years ago. But times change and if you don't change with it your risk becoming a fossil and a relic. This release holds on to a lot of the stuff we love about the label. Great samples, hard beats, and acidic energy. Tracks were full and there wasn't much dead space to endure. The middle of the album flirted with some melodies that had me thinking about the beaches of goa. Don't know if that was intentional but perhaps that is a wrinkle to explore further. As a Goa lover I would appreciate that of course, but what this album did was to solidify their position. It's a quality release that hits hard and isn't mindless. While not perfect it still keeps them near the top of the game. Psyshop Beatspace Mdk

Solar Resonance (Live Mix) IMBA, ETHEREAL 18. Sojourn in Goa (2013) SOMNESIA "Children don't read horrorscopes." True. But they do have accidents sometimes and sh*t their pants. And then proceed to track it all over the classroom floor. Bu, you know, since there was a birthday party the same day and chocolate cake was served nobody seemed to notice. Only when the teacher bent down to clean some of it up did she realize this was a whole different level of fudge. To find out who had the accident (think a 5 year old in a classroom of their friends is gonna tell you? You obviously don't have kids. I sh*t my pants once and as a last resort found refuge in a Taco Bell bathroom. I know right? My whole world was turned upside down. Everything was backwards. You don't normally have a pre-emptive smash at the Bell, they are usually the cause. Weirdly there was no line. I'm thinking they should just have a slide from your table to the crapper...just makes things flow better. But I digress...) So the teacher brought each child behind a large easel to check their pants and not embarrass the culprit. Cause believe me, that is one insult that will stick with you right through high school. So of course the next day the school was flooded with questions from insane parents as to why a teacher was eating a sh*t sandwich in class and looking down precious Johnny's pants. So yes children don't read horrorscopes but they do tell imaginative stories. Truth is stranger than fiction and this actually happened at my son's school last week. Anyhoo (awkward pause and segue) Timewarp Records has really stepped in it now. Fresh off the heels of The Call of Goa comes another 2 CD album that you are going to want in your shiny "Get...those f*cking chocolate fingers away from my CD's!" collection. *puts finger to ear to listen to producer.* "No that's not what I...I'm sure they..." *sigh* "Fine." Uh, about the chocolate fingers remark...I wasn't labeling black people as thieves. I mean c'mon, I'm not a Republican. My kids just had a few Hershey Kisses so they really did have, you know...chocolate fingers. Timewarp is really leaving their mark in a very short time. Compiled by Nova Fractal and Ovnimoon this brand of goa is bouncy and highly energetic with great sounds and melodies. The first CD is comprised of names you should know whilst the second introduces you to the less familiar. Except that Imba / Ethereal combo. We've all heard of Ethereal (new album with a re-release of Anima Mundi please) and there are pictures of Imba defiling the Holy Land all over my Facebook newsfeed. At times it bubbles and harkens back to those golden days of Indian beaches, but sounds as clear as if you were in the room when it was being produced. Filami and Kurandini (sounds like something the Jawas would say) absolutely crush things with very impressive offerings. Cosmic Dimension and Trinodia serve up more space goa and Screw Loose adds a deluge of Psilocybian frothy psy to their track. By the time you wipe the sh*t eating grin (are you my kid's teacher?) off your face and make it to CD 2 another journey is set to begin. Frost Raven delivers an X-Dream /M-Run (hyphens not included) hybrid with much bounce to the ounce. Kobaia (where the f*ck did you find these guys?) sounds like they've been worshiping at the altar of Artifact303. Tavi takes you to arid desert lands full of turbans magic lands and chilled monkey brains while our very own GhostOnAcid paints a swirling goa portrait. I thought the newer guys did a great job presenting many twirling moments and held their own against the first CD of veterans. The whole thing is an absolute must buy if you're a goa fan. Another triumph Renato. Keep hitting it out of the park like this and soon they're gonna start asking you to pee in a cup before an album release. Psyshop Mdk
