  1. Artist: Radical Distortion Title: Back In Time Label: Eutuchia Music Date: April, 2013 1. Promise of a Better World 2. Magic Carpet Remix - Gene Joke 3. Dark Energy 4. Relentless Galaxy 5. Solar Storm 6. Celestial Traveler 7. Voltage Source 8. Back In Time 9. Dreamer (2007 Original Mix) 10. India (2003 Original Mix) Ever wish you could go back in time and have a do-over? Maybe ask that girl out that you didn't years ago because you were too chicken. Maybe place a few bets on a Super Bowl. Or possibly take something back. Something you shouldn't have done. Ha! Imba you thought nobody was watching you in Spain, but we got you on tape mother f*cker! Eutuchia Music presents it's very first CD (been digital up till now) from Radical Distortion. This is the fourth album from the Greek duo Nick Polytaridis and...no way. What a dreamboat! I knew he played a musician on Full House, but didn't think he... That's not the same guy? Are you sure? *frowns* Well...they should hire him to stand behind the decks to twist a few knobs. Think of the hot chick spillover! These guys have always struck me as the Rodney Dangerfield of goa. Even though they've been around for a long time they're not the first names you think of when you rattle off the best in new school goa trance. No respect. Maybe it's cause it's a crowded field or maybe it's because they half assed it on Regenesis. People still talk about what could've been on that album and seem to have long memories. Well from my perspective they've been making amends ever since. And quite well I might add. Having released Psychedelic Dreams on Suntrip in 2009 (that's like 28 in goa years) they've also produced quality tunes for a bunch of compilations. Even the Suncokreti one with the sh*tty mastering where they gave away the track cause it was unrecognizable to their ears. All in the past. Now with their latest out on Eutuchia (didn't see that coming) we can finally slay the Regenesis dragon. In my opinion this is the best work they've ever done. Yeah, I said it. First of all these guys use a lot of analog hardware so expect that warm old school sound. And this is straight out of the past with ripping goa leads and entrancing melodies. Their remix of Magic Carpet is on absolute fire bringing relentless goa heat. But the whole album is full of tracks like that. Dark Energy twists and turns with melodic spirals in ever widening circles. Celestial Traveler is another stormer with a dark edge and lots of 303 pop. They also include two older unreleased tracks (the 2007 remix of Dreamer and the odd 2003 remix of India). I tell you this is old school goa trance to the bone. At times it sounds like Transwave. Other times like MFG. They do the Indian melodies as well as the outer space stuff. All the tracks sound great so hats off to Nikos who did the mastering. So yeah, they took a step back in time and brought back some freshness. Congratulations gentlemen this is some fine work. Highly recommended. Bandcamp Get a digital copy for just 4.50 Euro! What a bargain! Mdk
  2. Artist: Wolfen Technologies Title: Perception Deception EP Label: Triple Drop Productions Date: August, 2013 01 - Blossom Jewels (120 BPM) 02 - River Magic (101 BPM) 03 - Shining Star (85 BPM) 04 - This Is Love (104 BPM) This was pretty good. It's got a downtempo shuffle vibe to it, perfect for sitting on the beach with a few cool ones. The rhythm forms the foundation and the melodies kind of float over top. Even though the bpm's are low the way it's produced it moves at a high rate of speed. Jazzy and lounge like. Shining Star had a really good bass that upped the funk level and This is Love had so many beats it made me want to freestyle like in 8 Mile. "His palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy. There's vomit on his sweater already, mom's spaghetti." Very mellow stuff. Ideal to chill to. Free at Ektoplazm Mdk
  3. Artist: Solar Fields Title: Blue Moon Station Label: Ultimae Records Date: March, 2003 01. Confusion Illusion 02. Elevator Sunshine Girl 03. Cosmic Dessert 04. Magic Eye 05. Infection 268-7 06. Magnetic Air 07. Majestic Feeling 08. Blue Moon Station (Album Version) 09. Planet Zoo 10. Third Time (A-Version) 11. Swimming With Stones It's late. Or very early. The slowly approaching dawn only barely visible through closed shutters. But the darkness which occupies both extremes is palpable. My son crawls into bed beside me and nestles himself in the crook of my arm, quickly settling into a deep and restful sleep. My wife is asleep on the other side; so close yet a million miles away. There is no sound and the only movement is the perpetual slow motion spinning of the ceiling fan. My arms fell asleep 30 minutes ago, but I don't need them. I feel nothing but the cool air and the gentle twitching of my child's REM sleep. I'm not even here. I'm on the Blue Moon Station, many miles above the planet with breathtaking views of the Earth. The music is all that matters. It floats from gentle ambient to rhythmic downtempo with an artisans skill. Speaking in hushed tones of hyperbaric chambers and high technology automatons. Android controlled life support and terraforming machinery. It can be jarring when he catapults into his deep trance, but only in the sense that forces me to experience the story in millions of fragmented bits and bytes. My spirit drifts above my corporeal form as if to say, "Do you have any idea how spectacular this is?" And it truly is. It's an epic lightly mixed journey more lush than a horizon full of wildflowers. A tale of perhaps the not so distant future that reveals the limitless power of mans imagination. Tracks mean nothing, mere imaginary dividers that may as well be non existent to keep the flow high above the fray. I would never wish to be blind, but right now...at this very moment...I envy the heightened senses a blind man can possess. Hyperbolic to be sure, but that's how good this is. Masterpiece. 4. Artist: Various Title: Xerox & Illumination RMX Label: HOM-Mega Productions Date: April, 2009 1. Paranoia (Black and White rmx) 2. Tribal metal (Insomnia rmx) 3. The beast within (PTX rmx) 4. Ghost in the machine (U-Recken rmx) 5. X-files (Chakra vs. XI rmx) 6. Control me (XI rmx) 7. Sun burn (Hipnotix rmx) 8. Battleship (Krunch rmx) 9. Night shift (Loud rmx) 10. Welcome to paradise (cover mix) "As I was going up the stairs...I met a man who wasn't there." This is a remix album for a bunch of X&I tracks. I always liked that duo as their compositions exhibited a dark techno vibe that fit seamlessly with their powerful music. Yeah it's full-on, but it was usually the type of full-on that didn't make you roll your eyes. And trust me when I see artists like Black & White, PTX and Loud it's hard to control that eye rolling reflex. F*ck this is what happens when you let full-on artists mess with your tracks. It's like taking a new iPhone and then covering it with that glittery sh*t. Totally emasculating. Annoying. Choose your adjective. They've taken the dark atmosphere and put a Hello Kitty sticker on it. Galloping bass lines galore and cheesy melodies for the rave crowd. Even their own remix lacks a pulse. Wailing guitars I thought Sun Project was in the building. Battleship which is probably my favorite track has now been neutered and lacks all the gravity and grandeur it once contained. This compilation just takes all the air out of some really good tracks. Depressing. This must've been how Daisy felt when she found out Donald was shtupping Minnie Mouse. Psyshop Beatspace Mdk
  5. Artist: Various Title: V/A - Zoo-B-4 - Future Technologies Label: U.S.T.A. Date: September, 2005 1. Distorted reality NOK 2. Dance OPTOKOPPLER 3. Venus MAGICAL SEX 4. Inside the house ENZIO 5. Cat vs Pigeom GENETIC SPIN 6. Magic Power NARKOTIX 7. Dance 2 the beat MIDITEC 8. Radiance (Psytekk rmx) SYSTEM NIPEL 9. Mystery of time MAGOON "There's no sounds like hit sounds." In the ongoing and tedious effort to whittle down my music collection I came across this. Ah, 2005. Back when labels were releasing full-on at an unparalleled rate this was just another title. I was buying up every release I could similar to a child with a new toy fetish and unlimited funds. Did the same thing with DVD's when that wave started cresting. Anyone need a used copy of 15 Minutes? All of which left me poorer and stuck with sh*t I no longer watch or listen to. This is typical Israeli full-on which had it's place back in 2005. Unfortunately that stage was super crowded. Highlights? Well, let's call them...not as low lights. The Genetic Spin track was on the funky side. And Magic Power had its moments. But let's face it, it is still full-on and not particularly that good of full-on. Is USTA an acronym for U Should Totally Avoid? I'm just askin' cause the label's picture on Discogs has some poor shlub shoveling a pile of sh*t. Just askin'. Psyshop - ONLY $3.94!! Mdk
  6. Artist: JIS Title: Illusions of Reality Label: Timewarp Records Date: October, 2013 1. We're The Aliens On The Earth 2. Behind the Lights 3. Aldebaran 4. Blessed Unconsciousness 5. The Illusion of Reality 6. Factorum Spectre 7. Plan B 8. The Journey 9. Mind Therapy 10. Birdie "This is a journey into sound." Blue Planet Corporation. I would swear I was listening to Blue Planet Corporation. THE name in melodic trancey goa finally has a worthy successor. Who the hell knew he was hidden away in Hungary. JIS is Gabor Czellux and this is his debut full length album. Beautiful melodies are the cornerstone of this music that doesn't forget it's still goa trance. We're in a time now where just making melodic goa trance isn't going to set anyone's hair on fire. Past that. What Gabor does is take light and airy melodies and surround them with the signature sounds that scream goa trance. Layers? Check. Shimmering synths and reverb? Oh, yes. Tactile breaks and great production? You. Know. It. This isn't dark or acidic goa trance, but the hyper melodic stuff that reminds you why you liked trance to begin with. Can't be dark all the time...people will begin to shun you. "Look Gary, I like you. You're a nice guy and do good work, but people don't want their accountant to look like the walking dead. Makes 'em nervous." The opener sounds lush and combines all of the things I've mentioned. And he doesn't stop there. Delicious layers cascade over bubbling basses like maple syrup on a short stack. Blessed Unconsciousness is infectious and has a playful bass line that reminds me of Dark Waters by MFG. The Journey you will recall was released on The Call of Goa (*gives hi-five to Nova Fractal) and does everything right. If there was one complaint you could possibly raise it would be that it's an album composed of very similar tracks, but I was dancing so much that I didn't care. When I found out BPC was his favorite artist it made perfect sense. Gabor deftly navigates the sometimes blurred lines (I know you want me) between melodic and goa trance (I know you want me). Just like the artist he draws inspiration from. This is light and airy melodic goa trance that is quite vivid and well produced. One could even say gentle at times. None of the tracks are going to overpower you. Dark and acidic goa stormers won't be found here either. It's not that kind of party. But if you're a fan of melody and layers then this is for you. It's a digital relase, but shoot him an email and he might have a physical copy left for you. Beatport Mdk
  7. Loved the Electrypnose track. This guy has been ahead of the curve for so long. The Mechanix track was also very appealing. This compilation is dark without being labeled a darkpsy compilation. I liked parts of most of the songs, but after the ones I mentioned it just became noisy to my ears. They would start off great and then lose steam halfway through. Mdk
  8. Soooooo...will this come out before Mind Rewind 2 and the hopeful repress of MR 1? Mdk
  9. Artist: Various Title: Evolving Freedom Label: Enig'Matik Records Date: January, 2013 01 - Sensient - Mitford Stories (120 BPM) 02 - Itsu - Drizzle (95 BPM) 03 - Mindbuffer - The Grid (125 BPM) 04 - Quanta - Recept (144 BPM) 05 - RHCP - Walkabout (Kalya Scintilla Remix) (90 BPM) 06 - Organikismness - Life Beyond You (85 BPM) 07 - Sun In Aquarius - Wytaliba The Girl By The River (90 BPM) 08 - Zunzagi - Glitched Night (130 BPM) "13.7 billion years ago...from nothing...came everything." Part of me really wants to go to Australia. But a bigger part of me is scared sh*tless. Do you know how many things can kill you there? Snakes, spiders, scorpions, ants, sharks, hormonal koalas...I mean what the f*ck? No wonder that's where Britain sent all of its criminals. This Australian label has assembled a hodge podge of chill music for our enjoyment. Mitford Stories- A slow, earthy opener complete with nature sounds and warm pads. But it just feels like jumbled noise lacking direction. Drizzle- Glitchy and atmospheric Itsu delivers a breakbeat track that has motion. Melancholic guitars wail as effects twinkle. Short, but satisfying. The Grid- This sounds like music from a video game menu. Part militaristic, part Jason Bourne. Then the dubstep arrives, but it's well done. Percussion enthusiasts will wet their pants over this one. Slow and nasty. Recept- Deep, juicy bass sounds combine with a dubby beat for some good old fashioned head nodding. This makes me want to spark up on the beach as I watch the waves crash. Thank you. Walkabout- Channeling the Red Hot Chilli Peppers this is a funky live band jam session. Funny and cheesy at the same time, but definitely smile inducing. And no Aussie production would be complete without a didgeridoo. Life Beyond You- Drum n Bass tripped down to...well, the drum and bass. Some futuristic sounding pads and echoing effects make this interesting, but sometimes boring. Mainly boring. Wytaliba- This has a bubbling reminiscent of what the inside of your stomach might sound like after a late night taco bell binge. A little too...what's the word...sh*t your pantsy for me. When the sample comes in and says, "And down it goes!" that was pretty much it for me. Glitched Night- The final track is all about the piano melody. For me anyway. Not really relaxing though. The sounds backing the piano came across as white noise. I'm glad I listened to this. It's a pretty average compilation with a couple of stand outs, but there are several styles of chill music represented. Should be something here most people can enjoy. Free at Ektoplazm Mdk
  10. Artist: Various Title: Goa Trance 5 Label: Tetsuo Date: 1999 1. Astral Projection - Andromeda 2. MFG - Intelligent Machine 3. Domestic - Metal Sense 4. Xerox - Kayazulu 5. Children of the Doc - Bionic Bong 6. Pigs In Space - Visitors (Part 1) 7. Cosmic Navigators feat. Xerox - Electric Energy 8. Boris Blenn - Rain (California Sunshine Remix) 9. Oforia - Big Bang (Ambient Mix) Tetsuo is a German trance label that unfortunately to my ears too closely resembles the word testicle. However in the vein of turning a negative into a positive it reminds me that I do have testicles and that I should keep my appointment with my doctor for yearly check ups. So a defunct trance label keeping an eye out for my health care is a pleasant if unintended consequence. Now turn your head and cough. And yest I realize the label was relaunched in 2008, but as far as goa goes, it may as well still be dead. Know why I like this compilation? It's not the same song and dance. Not the same classics copy and pasted to a disc with a different cover. And while the tracks my not be as brilliant as the usual classics, they're damn good in their own right. From the shimmering Andromeda to the not-quite-ambient-but-still-slowed-down version of Big Bang that sounds juicy and alien. And there isn't any filler to be found. Even the California Sunshine remix is fairly dreamy and mellow and believe me those two have made a career out of filler. Bionic Bong is a little abstract and perhaps more famous for its samples, but it was still entertaining during its almost 10 minute length. And as far as the MFG track goes I'm thrilled it's not Magnetic Activity or Exit Eternity. Biggest surprise? The Domestic track was a blistering ass kicking. Bottom line this compilation has 9 tracks that weren't played to death to the point of annoyance. It is nice to hear something different that is still high quality. Not as great as the well knowns, but eventually even chocolate becomes less delicious if you eat it every day. Mdk
  11. Artist: Cryobiosis Title: Within Ruins Label: Cryo Chamber Date: May, 2013 1. Enthrall 2. Frigid Silence 3. Somewhere Safe 4. Recollection 5. The Corridors Beneath 6. Murkfall 7. Corroded 8. Through Debris 9. Forgotten 10. As the World Decays 11. Departure 12. Serenity What I've come to understand about dark ambient is that it is a vehicle for your imagination. I suppose that could apply to all music, but definitely in this genre. This is pretty good dark ambient that explores the deserted structures of ancient civilizations. Recorded in Romania by Cristian Voicu it is characterized by that eerie atmosphere which Simon Heath (Atrium Carceri) is known for. One aspect I like about this is that while relying heavily on effects and melancholy tone it is more than just drone ambient. Isolating melodies and pads stir up memories of a cold December, perhaps of a fortress ruled by a long dead monarch. Maybe of ghosts wandering beneath a deserted temple. Murkfall conjures up images of a massive Viking vessel with its creaking planks as it lolls listfully at sea devoid of crew. But even though the album starts off strongly it eventually gets lost as you get deeper into it. What was once eerie and interesting soon becomes just background noise. Forgotten sounds like Cristian recorded his cat walking back and forth on his aunt's piano. It moves slowly (very slowly) along with all the sounds you come to expect from dark ambient and you'll notice that a lot of those sounds are repeated. It doesn't frighten yet it does bring about a feeling that you are not alone thereby accomplishing its goal in stimulating the imagination. Think of it as the soundtrack to a dark, slow journey through the past. Not the best I've heard, but worth a listen. If I had to put a number on it, 6/10. Bandcamp Mdk
  12. Artist: Sky Technology Title: The Pleiadian Connection EP Label: Timewarp Records Date: September, 2013 1. Life or Coma Dream 2. Lemuria 3. Stars Come Down 4. The Pleiadian Connection My son is at the stage where if he likes something he gives it the thumbs up. If he really likes it he holds up both his hands and says, "10 thumbs up!" The other day he said my chocolate chip pancakes get 11 thumbs up. I turned around and shouted, "Put your pants back on!" Sky Technology is Dmitriy Kolosovskiy and his style is a fusion of the power and barely restrained chaos of Filteria and the hypnotic cosmic spaceflight that exemplifies E-mantra. Pretty high praise methinks. This is melodic beauty for sure, but thanks to some Italians anytime we see the word Pleiadian attached to a release we tend to lose our sh*t a little bit and maybe have some unrealistic expectations. But it is an effective marketing strategy no? I think everyone who listens to goa trance these days knows this guy is supremely talented. From his EP's Time and Space and Next Visions the ahem, sky's the limit for this guy. And for the most part he delivers here as well. He begins with a thick and complex downtempo track Life of Coma Dream. This is the coalescence of many layers and when the comparisons to E-mantra come to mind. It's beautiful. Lemuria is a no holds barred melee if a little uninteresting and Stars Come Down blows through brick walls with its power. Not a lot to chew on, but still very good. The last track typifies what I think Dmitiy is capable of. It's also some powerful, churning goa trance that will captivate as it cycles through its progressions. Loud and dense it is an example of the Filteria E-mantra hybrid. E-Teria if you will. And that's how I would describe this. Very good, but not great. I give it 7.5 thumbs up thereby ensuring that my pants remain securely fastened around my waist. Beatport Mdk
  13. Artist: Ancient Alien Title: Tribute To The Elders EP Label: Timewarp Records Date: September, 2013 1. Identified Races 2. Inexplicable Feeling 3. Prophets of Orion 4. Tribute To The Elders Timewarp Records (managed by Renato Brnic, aka Nova Fractal) has been unloading digital EP's so fast you'd think they came with a side of cancer. Usually at least a couple would be weak, but surprisingly that has not been the case. This is Luiz Fernando Wilhelm with a short 4 track EP for our listening pleasure. While I wasn't impressed with the rambling opener the power and the complexity pick up after that. Inexplicable Feeling thumps with a strong bass presence and dark feeling as synth leads meander from the shadows. It's...eerie even if it also goes on a little long. Prophets of Orion suffers from the same affliction as the first track. Just kinda meh. Tribute to the Elders is the reason I'll keep watching this project. Even though it wasn't that detailed the power and old school flow were there. I think there is potential there if he lets the tracks evolve and takes them to the shadowy corners where a lot of artists are won't to go. Cutting a few minutes off wouldn't hurt. You've got my attention sir. Beatport Mdk
  14. Artist: Various Title: Elementis Label: Adapted Records Date: August, 2013 01 - Mr. Bill - The Garden (70 BPM) 02 - Whitebear - Fever Dreams (93 BPM) 03 - Kalya Scintilla - You Are Divine (100 BPM) 04 - Messy Mass - Fruitcakes Are For Old Ladies (125 BPM) 05 - Mus Sck - Eternal Smile (88 BPM) I'm struggling with a description of this album. There's my wallet! Yeah, that'll do. Dubby beats guaranteed to make you bob your head. Liquid basses juicier than a summer peach. Flutes and tribal percussion give it an earthy feel amidst plenty of glitchiness. All top notch tunes with a hi-five going to Fruitcakes Are For Old Ladies for laying down a wicked groove and leaving a messy mass in my pants. Nasty. The only drawback would be the ridiculously short Eternal Smile. Not because it wasn't good, but because it was so short it was over before I could connect with it. Oh well, always leaving them wanting more. Free at Ektoplazm Mdk
  15. Artist: Various Title: When Melancholy Speaks Label: Uxmal Records Date: March, 2012 1. Solar STRAY THEORIES 2. Nerium Oleander DEEP IN MIND 3. Camel Jockey SQUAZOID 4. Eye Level Two PERPETUAL LOOP 5. Tiempo De Misterio CHRONOS 6. Nova ZEN GARDEN 7. Pantha Rhei MAGMAN 8. Forest Cat KYOTO 9. Rhodes MAGMAN Lemons are awesome. They make everything better. Carolina sweet tea is great, but put a f*cking lemon in it and it's slap yo momma good. But lemons have way more to offer than being a summer drink garnish. When you absolutely, positively need to protect your pussy. Leave it to the Middle East to make lemons delicious and explosive. And most importantly without lemons how the hell would Consuela keep your house looking and smelling so wonderful? "No...no...you go buy...lemon pledge." So it stands to reason that a compilation of downtempo music put together by Lemonchill would be very appealing. And boy is it. Dreamy and floaty this melodic music is masterful. Highly emotional and lush this opens the mind up to untold avenues of neuronal exploration. There are so many good tracks here. Camel Jockey aside from being outstandingly racist and funny is an epic mid tempo journey heavy with tribal overtones. Eye Level has the feel of progressive rockers Emerson, Lake, and Powell as it bounces through its dubby break beat. Tiempo Final combines the gentle plucking of acoustic guitar with some goa 303 bubbling. Real Antonio Banderas Desperado type stuff. This compilation basically takes the genre box and punches a hole in it. And because it's so varied it's also a lot of fun. As average as I perceive Uxmal to be in the progressive arena they sure do shine when the beats drop. Psyshop Beatspace Goa Store Mdk
  16. Thanks for the compliment! A couple of people thought that adding the pics dumbed down the reviews. While I don't think that was the case, I did go overboard on several occasions. To tell the truth I was finding my way and discovering my style. Everything in moderation I suppose. Unless it's more Dimension 5 music. Just hook it to my veins! Mdk
  17. I received a lot of messages from those who wanted me to continue to put pics in the reviews. So I compromised and decided to mix my reviews up. Some will have 'em and some won't. This album was just delicious. It's amazing how tastes differ. I thought Phoenix was one of their best efforts. Mdk

The moment I did...the whispering became a cloud of sound." Dimensional Records is a Belgian label that released some really good albums such as GoAsia's Dancing With The Blue Spirit, Liquid Flow's Presence, as well as Terrestrial Planet Finder by the Space Elves. This was an ambitious double CD (actually it could be called a 3CD compilation as the chill part of the story was released at a later date to save on shipping costs) that puts several subgenres together. I wanted to write a review, but I'm also feeling a little lazy so I'll write a short blurb about each track. Close Your Eyes- A good head nodding opener in a break beat style. Eternal Dreams- I believe I have just listened to the cheesiest Jikooha track ever. Cosmogenesis (Jikooha Remix)- And now I have heard the 2nd cheesiest Jikooha track. Oof Oof music. Riemann Hypothesis- I hate to say they peaked really early, but this is the track of the compilation. Storming goa trance that obliterates everything. Dry Bones Vision- This is another goa trance track that races across the horizon. Searingly hot. Transmitter- Dark and chunky full of Braincell-esque goodness. Easy- Perhaps if it wasn't so easy he could've made a better track. I'm no artist, but I'm pretty sure you're supposed to finish it before you submit your work. This won't be the last disappointment from this project. Time Travel- This is a tale of two tracks. The lead in the 2nd half is awesome, but it seemed to take forever to get there. Don't give up though. It's worth it. Optronic Circles- Just like E-mantra has a recognizable sound so does this titan of the genre. This track was on his last album Inner Shift, but I'm guessing this is the original version. Wonderful mid-tempo goa trance. On to the second disc and some night time action. Blugdayushiv Zyuk- You got one more time buddy. Forest Shaman (edit)- I'm a fan of his work, but this wasn't one of his best efforts. Not bad, but not great. Where Is The Exit- The sultan of strange concocts a dark and chunky track headed the wrong way down a one way street. Sinful and full of evil thoughts. Crysys- Tastes like filler. Until You Get There- The emperor of eerie (I'll stop) with a less aggressive track yet still unsettling. He's got a knack for atmosphere, always has. Is A- And strike three you're out. Yeah I said it. Maybe his style is supposed to be like this. Bore trance. All The Answers In One Question- Dark and spooky it begins with a twisted minimal vibe and eventually becomes thicker. Not bad. Synchrotron- This is the best non-goa track here. Period. Love the brooding night time stuff that reminds me of what Azax used to be capable of. Holy sh*t this is bad ass. Fear and Laugh- Nitzho kick with twilight? Meh, it had its moments. Cloud of Sound- Annnnnnnnd...we go out with nothing special. Let's see. If I had to sum up this compilation in one sentence...No I know I don't have to, but weren't you listening? I'm lazy. This is a good compilation that offers some quality tracks in the goa and psytrance arena, but would be great if there was more PequalNP, Electrypnose and Moodsyne with significantly less Enichkin. 19. Artist: Dimension 5 Title: TransStellar Label: Suntrip Records Date: 2013 1. Iron Sun Rmx 2. Temple of Chaos 3. Blue Pyramid 4. Ganymede 5. Phoenix 6. The Zarkon Principle 7. Intastella 8. Tribes of the moon I think the members of Dimension 5 sh*t gold on a soft suede pillow. Honestly have you ever heard a D5 track and thought to yourself, "This sucks!" Nope, because it doesn't happen. Out of all of their tracks not one has sucked balls. Not one. That's an incredible achievement. Even the Beatles had a few stinkers. So yeah they sh*t gold. Melodic goa gold to be precise. Their entire catalog is riddled with classic tracks tailor made for any goa listener's journey. And this release is no exception. F*ck it it's the rule. Hard to find tracks, EP releases and compilation tracks have been given a fresh coat of paint and man do they sparkle. It's a limited edition only available on the Suntrip website. This is a melodic rollercoaster through the cosmos that sounds fresh and vivid thanks to the great remastering by Tim Schuldt. I can hear and feel every nuance which brings the music to life. Imagine painting a 3D picture. Hard to believe these tracks didn't make it to Transdimensional. Shows you how awesome that album was. The arpeggios in Temple of Chaos move like snakes on fire as it piles on layers of aural bliss. A carpet burner to be sure. The 303 goa bark on Blue Pyramid makes a great track legendary and Phoenix is a continuous swirl of multicolored melody. But picking out the best track is like asking a diabetic what's his favorite cake. Short answer? All of them. Thanks again for this Suntrip. Once again you lead the way. Suntrip Mdk

K-90 - Genesis (Terraform Mix) 5. Blokka - Exploration (First Time Mix) 6. Beamish - Fanfare 7. Audio Pancake - Central Heating For Kids 8. Future AKA - Flying High 9. Cybernaut - Califrae 10. Lab 4 - Transformation The Big Book of British Smiles? What the f*ck is this doing on the coffee table? Yes, yes peek a boo. Never gets old. Look, I don't want skin cancer either, but one does want a hint of color. Waitaminute...I'm detecting a pattern. I knew it! It's a British party up in here! So bring your bad teeth, pasty skin, and football hooligans because this CD is meant for reminiscing. Sh*tty weather be damned this is about capturing the past magic of the London trance scene from the days of yore. Afterwards it's up the apples and pears to the paki and some tasteless food. I don't care how much vinegar you put on it. Ooh hello, bird...what's up wit yo boat? Gorgerous- Very uplifting. This does not make me want to orgasm. Needs more tits. Psychofunk- Obviously a great goa trance blaster from Cosmosis that begs the question how the f*ck did these first two tracks end up on the same disc? Talk about things that don't go together. Say hello to Astral Projection's new hardware. No wonder it's taking forever. Korg is really running low on ideas. Maen City- Wow. Steel drum arpeggios and crowd noise. Guess you had to be there. Very trancey and cheesy. I see the anti-psychedelic serpent has raised it's ugly head yet again. Genesis- All they're doing here is messing with the cut-off filter on a 303. You had me at hello. Exploration- Fanfare- Picture if you will, dancing drag queens under a relentless strobelight. Now punch yourself in the tomatoes. That's not here, but if I'm thinking about it so should you. Good God this is horrible. Central Heating- Is this acid trance? I think this is acid trance. Not bad, but you could put a 303 over some polka and I'd probably listen to it. Flying High- You had me at the goa growl, but why did you sh*t all over it with the uplifting nonsense? Califrae- You're just like the rest of them! Reformation- Perhaps the highest bpm's on the disc? Maybe. This hyper trance will get all the suburban white kids in a frenzy let me tell you. It's so fast it almost seems as if it's not in rhythm. Before society taught me to fear black people and Muslims I was afraid of English punks. Man they were scary to a white kid from the burbs! Never met one and it was a totally irrational fear, but their Doc Martens, leather jackets, and multi colored mohawks made me think that's how all the British were. Ah, so young and impressionable. Like that fear this sounds old and dated and utterly ridiculous. It's a bunch of cheesy crap that would only appeal to those that attended this gathering. I'm guessing the Cosmosis track was in there for the goa freaks (I assume he played this venue). Thing is when you try to please everyone you end up pleasing no one. Mdk
  21. Artist: Enertopia Title: Face Adaptor Label: Krembo Records Date: July, 1998 1. Oh Nurse Over Ring 2. If When What We See 3. Torn Between 4. Brain Spiders 5. Open Up (The Elevator) 6. The Guardian 7. A Little Tiny Pause 8. The Forehead Stories 9. The Treatment (A-La Family Way) 10. A Man of God? "The war between heaven and hell depends on the choices you make. And those choices require sacrifice." Enertopia is Emiliano Solazzi Griminger and this was his 2nd album. It's a combination of psy, goa, techno, and darkpsy. I'm still deciding on whether I like it or not, but one thing remains very clear... This is some evil and twisted stuff. First, I'll say there is a lot to get through. It is densely packed with so many thought strands it can be difficult to follow. As I mentioned it is a mixture of the styles above written in conjunction with the artist B.L. T. Loud and always dark this has more in common with Chaos Laboratory from GMS than Transdimensional. There are quite a few layers to enjoy with lots of thought provoking and moody samples sometimes to its detriment. It's a fine line between using a sample to enhance a track and beating you over the head with it like in If When What We See. That was oftentimes the style back then so it's not a dealbreaker for me. Because each track is so thick and similar in structure sitting through an entire album of music like this can be challenging. But like an octopus on LSD because it flails in so many directions I never find it boring. Lots of effects help to maintain the dark and atmospheric conditions as well as several instances where he pulls of some searing goa riffs. Torn Between and Brain Spiders are a psychedelic wet dream, but Forehead Stories and The Treatment loses me with its noisy repetition. Not your everyday goa, but if you devote some time to it I believe it will surprise you. Mdk
  22. Artist: Various Title: I Have A Dream Label: Melodia Records Date: 1996 1. Power Source - Eye Land 2. Zed - Tubular Bells 3. G.B.A. feat. Liat - Dream On Peace 4. Kosowski - Breakfast 5. Power Source - Heaven On Earth 6. G.B.A. - Sweet Dream 7. Power Source - Oxygene 8. G.B.A. - Piano Fantasy 9. Zed - Zedream 10. G.B.A. - Symphony of Love 11. G.B.A. - Flashdance (Love Theme) What I am about to say is likely to offend people. This is the gayest sh*t I've ever heard. No that's an insult to gay people. I have nothing against gay people. What's gayer than gay people? If you're not hearing In the Navy or Macho Man or really any Village People song at this point you really need to get on board. This couldn't be farther from psytrance if Kenny G had a solo on it. Think Robert Miles Children taken to it's cheesiest degree. The melodies are so f*cking sweet it's like having a cupcake in between cotton candy buns (no pun intended). Every song has the piano lead melody in a truly horrid dream pop way. I've had this on my computer for a couple of years and now the origin of computer herpes has been solved. I would take you through all the tracks but a) there isn't enough F-word, and they all sound the same. Originally downloaded for the Power Source tracks I have to wonder what happened to them. Goaway? Closer to Take My Breath Away by Berlin. Thank God it was a download cause if I woulda paid for this I'd be sending rockets with babies into the Holy Land. If you see this stay as far away as f*cking possible lest you catch the gay. Mdk
  23. What a great compilation. The longer it has had to grow on me the more I appreciate it. Artha and Agneton are stellar here while Astrancer presents a more trancey side of goa trance. The Amanians track is blistering even if it doesn't evolve that much. You even get a retro remix of a Cyan track! Sure it sounds older, but that rawness is appreciated by a lot of people. I would say if there is one drawback to this it's the horrid cover. And that has nothing to do with the music. It's a shame that Phototropic is no longer around, but out of that came Sita Records so we've got that going for us. Mdk
  24. Artist: Various Title: Goa Vibes Vol. 3 Label: Trust In Trance Records / Phonokol Date: 1996 01. 08'34" Athena : Human Vox (Rmx) 02. 07'28" Athena : Croctopus 03. 07'51" Z To A : Next Stop Oblivion 04. 08'20" Etnica : Starship 101 05. 07'39" Laughing Buddha : Infinite Depths 06. 09'26" X-Dream : The Second Room (A Trip) 07. 09'01" Power Source : Goaway 08. 10'19" Power Source : Gargamel 09. 06'09" Jaïa : Mohamour "Only the infinity of the depths of a man's mind can really tell the story." Oh yeah! Hit after hit on this one. Raw and powerful goa trance from Athena (Miranda), classics from X-Dream and Etnica, not to mention a track from the elusive one Jaia. Throw in the greatest ever song from Power Source and you've got your hands on an absolute slobberknocker. Pure storming goa form the mid nineties back when Phonokol was relevant. The one I didn't like was the Vocal Mix of Next Stop Oblivion. Zoe is psychoanalyzing herself sounding self important. I don't need to hear that sh*t. Take your deep thoughts and hipster musings to Starbucks. Mdk
