V/A - Lucas Presents: God Save The Machine
Trance2MoveU replied to psychedelic_mustache's topic in 2006
"You might catch yourself sliding into a hallucinatory state after this is all over...if you do, just relax and enjoy it." So...TIP Records goes down, then you have TIP World. It subsequently goes down, and then Raja Ram resurrects TIP Records. Oh what a tangled web. This release was a quality psytrance bomb. Took full on, put the psychedelia back into it and then flirted with goa. That's how you get people to start paying attention. Lucas O'Brien (who as Lucas is on every track) cut his teeth during his tenure as label manager for Flying Rhino so one assumes he knows his way around the psychedelic world. He delivers. Thumping beats, growling 303's, and more futuristic samples than you can shake a stick at. This came out when full-on was at it's height of...lowness. Generic, cut and paste drivel that hardly challenged the mind. Call this a kick down the door moment. The Simon Posford bunnies I'm sure were out in full force as he makes an appearance with his typical way out there style. Still don't get the attraction of Eat Static, but that's just me. Every other track here is well done and oozes quality. Hard to find a physical copy though. Mdk -
Still quality material. Love it. Mdk

Artist: Various Title: Psychedelic Vibes Label: Trust In Trance Records Date: 1996 1. Magic carpet - GENE JOKE 2. Babes on broomsticks - SYNCHRO 3. Mission 1 - UNDERCOVER 4. Antidote - BLUE PLANET CORPORATION 5. Psychoaktivity - X DREAM 6. Next stop oblivion (rmx) - Z TO A 7. Clone III - POLLINATOR 8. Aphrodite - GENE JOKE 9. Brain drain - GENE JOKE "You're witnessing a rather remarkable phenomenon." You sure are. Check out my magic as I bring this long dead b*tch back to life. Here is an album from the golden age of goa compiled by Astral Projection. Remember them? Before they were a punchline they used to make some groundbreaking music. This was one of the first goa albums I heard and for a kid from New Jersey this stuff seemed strange and appealing. And like a sucker if you make a sequel I'm gonna check it out. Magic Carpet- I'll have what he's having... No clue who this is, but it could very well be the most...what's the word I'm looking for here...ethnic track ever. It just sounds like it comes from far away exotic locale. Pretty good, it's fast then slow, then fast again. Babes on Broomsticks- If track quality is directly proportional to attractive women on broomsticks then, well... Mission I- Our favorite Dane Kristian Andersen (not that one) the mind behind projects like Elysium, Sheyba, and Kailash to name a few joins forces with Mr. Infinity Project to make this odd bit of business. Bubbling sounds rising an falling and reverberating drops of whatever floats your boat amidst hollow kicks and grumbling goa riffs. Entertaining. Antidote (Pleiadians Under the Roof Mix)- You know your top dog when you can take an absolute classic remix it and make it better. This is the class of the compilation as far as I'm concerned. Twisting and twirling leads that leave you so high up in the clouds you might never come down. Psychoactivity- Masters X-Dream roll out a deliciously bubbly and hypnotic track that seems to go as far as the unreachable horizon. Love this psychedelic motherf*cker. Next Stop Oblivion- I would swear these are the lost Posh Spice tapes depicting her rather tumultuous time with the band, including massive breast envy on her part whenever Geri Hallowell pranced around on stage in that form fitting Union Jack. Which would explain the purchase of her comically fake jugs. Good God I'd motorboat the sh*t out of her. Look at her...hardly any room at that podium for poor Posh thanks to Geri's massive flapjacks. That's what happens when you cram yourself into your little sister's clothes I guess. This track is on many compilations, but I'm not sure why. It has elements of some really good goa, but this mix has way too much talky talky on it as well as stops and starts. Usually skip it. Clone III- This is a project of the X-Dream boys that sounds just like X-Dream. Dark and atmospheric it travels the progressive goa route. Liked it and would've liked it more if there was more evolution. Aphrodite- Gene Joke is back with another very Israeli sounding goa track. And I don't have a problem with that. The melodies are fast and furious with a good balance between top and bottom ends. It gets a little off track at the end maybe even straying into crazy Nitzho territory. Don't know why Joske is such a hater. Brain Drain- Again with these guys? Are they Astral's dirty secret boy toys? There's usually a lot of dick sucking involved when you get three tracks on a compilation. Have to hand it to them though, all three haven't been pretty good. This one is more "trancey" than the others with the requisite tempo changes. I thought this was pretty good. Not the greatest of course, but several tracks that I'm sure you guys have already stand out. The Pleiadians remix and X-Dream are the class of the album as you would expect, but unlike Joske I thought that Gene Joke gave a very respectable effort. I mean, they should they had three f*cking cracks at it. Pretty sure if you gave me three tries I could mumble something that might resemble Chinese. Mdk

Artist: Various Title: Pure Planet Label: Kagdila Records Date: July, 2004 1. Shakti - DEEPER IN ZEN 2. The jar - SOLIPTIC 3. Hyper nova - AZRIEL 4. In my world - ESSENTIAL TRIP 5. Flying objects always reach the ground - SNEILA 6. Forest - GOASIA 7. Guetto - GOASIA 8. Paranoid - GOASIA 9. The dreamers guide - SNEILA Yeah, I went old school on you. Wait a minute...that's new school. Old new school. Yeah, I took you to some kind of unfunded learning institution that has old textbooks and one computer in the teacher's lounge running AOL on dial up. Kagdila Records is a USA label and I seem to remember some discussion where artists were unhappy with Mr. Shu-ki Golan. Probably didn't pay them. Great, more reasons to hate the US. Anyway this was an early new school psytrance / goa trance compilation that for me doesn't get started until track number five. Oh there are four tracks before it, but like cold pizza if there's nothing else around I'll eat it. Just not my first choice. Or second. Hmmm....doesn't even rank in my top ten. So that leaves 5 tracks by two projects. Might as well be a Sneila / Goasia EP. Hardly worth paying for a compilation, but I'm a completionist so I did. Flying Objects seemed like a revelation almost a decade ago with it's rolling synthline and at over 10 minutes you're in the clouds for a long time. Forest is pretty good with some quality detail if you listen. I just can't stomach that shanai sounding lead. Moving on to Ghetto it's full of sounds that you wouldn't hear on albums today, but it's diversity makes it a treat. The last Goasia track Paranoid is darker with an eerie atmosphere. The final Sneila track is a hands down growler of a beast. Dark and bubbly with undulating goa fire! So there you go. Not a classic by any means, but it's an early arrow in the quiver of the blossoming new school movement. Psyshop Beatspace Juno Download Beatport Mdk

20's were great, but the 30's are better. Hopefully you'll have a good job and a special someone to share your life with. I'm 41 (very soon to be 42) and still feel like I did when I was in my late twenties. Having kids was the best thing I've ever done and it's like watching a movie unfold before your eyes. Sometimes great sometimes aggravating, but always, always entertaining. I look at the young people doing stuff and I wonder if I was ever that stupid. Take social media. I'm on Facebook, but I don't feel the need to share everything and every thought that goes through my head. Twitter? What's that? No more parties, no alcohol, no drugs, no hookups...That's a young mans game and my life is so full that I don't miss any of that. If there is one thing I can recommend when getting older and I cannot stress this enough. Exercise. Stay in shape. It will help you as the years go by. Mdk

Artist: Transwave Title: Frontfire Label: Fineplay Records Date: February, 2009 1. Uplifter 2. Coming S. feat. Dimitri Nakov 3. Trashish 4. Rising High 5. Fuel On feat. Koxbox 6. Rezwalker 7. Cycles Of Life 8. Land Of Freedom 9. Organic 10. Phototropic Part II Full-on + Remixes = Full On Remixes. It's not rocket science. The fact that this was released on Fineplay Records also tells a lot. After all this is the label that gave you What the f*ck did you think was gonna happen? Ok, several points to discuss here. Transwave are Absolum + Deedrah and were in tegral parts of what made the goa scene great in its heyday. Masters surely giving the people 3 albums of goa brilliance. But what they did here didn't sit well with most people. We can wish for a DAT style release of undiscovered gems or a Suntrip album of new goa trance material, but that doesn't look like it's happening. And it definitely wasn't happening here. Nope they decided to make full on remixes of some of their classic tracks, but didn't think that piece of info was necessary when labeling the tracks on the CD. So what you see are the names of the classic tracks. That is only done for one of two reasons. You're either stupid or dishonest. I'm leaning towards number 2. They know that their audience is full of goa purists who would most assuredly pass on such an album tanking album sales. So ok, let's get past their probably dishonesty. In a way it doesn't make sense because we have this thing called the internet and believe me word travels fast. What's the music like? First you have to take the name Transwave out of the equation, listen to this in a vacuum. If you go into this expecting goa remixes of classic tracks you're gonna wanna punch babies. This ain't goa and to be honest it's not very psychedelic either. It's pure full-on remixes as others have stated. Yes it's painful to see once revered masters go down this road, but let's not act like it hasn't happened before. MWNN and MFG I'm looking directly at you. So...that's nut punch #2. We are now down to "Is it at least intelligent full-on?" Sometimes. There are several original tracks that I thought were pretty good. Uplifter and Rising High were enjoyable pieces of light fare so you're thinking, "Ok Transwave you are now Melicia or Tetrium." I hate it, but I can accept it. The problem I have is the same one everyone does. The remixes of some of their best tracks. They totally neuter X-Dream's Coming Soon removing anything that was remotely psychedelic. Trashish and that God-awful guitar riff were tolerable as a goa track, but as full-on it sounds like Afternoon Delight by the Starland Vocal Band on a perpetual loop. Makes me want to jump out a window. "Wait for me muthaf*ckaz!" When it comes to the Rezwalker and Cycles of Life, two anthemic goa tracks, they did well giving them depth with a myriad of effects and a break that is quite tasty. The twists and turns revealed that they are still capable of some intricacy. Stil it's like painting flames on a Bentley. Why the hell would you do that? Land of Freedom takes an absolute classic and Paul Van Dyk's it up. The only thing missing is Sarah McLaughlin singing over top of it. Expect to see it in a commercial for the next must have product modeled by a gay guy in incredible shape showing disinterest in an emaciated female model with dark glasses while the wind fails to move his gelled coif. Is this an attempt to showcase their new direction or a blatant and lazy cash grab? God help us it might be both. If you like full-on you could probably get by with this mediocre effort, but with all the great music out there are you content to just get by? For the purists this is like putting your hand on a hot stove knowing what the outcome will be. Pain and third degree burns that's what's gonna happen. Psyshop Beatspace Goastore Mdk

Artist: Twisted System Title: The Dealers Label: Timecode Records Date: June, 2004 1. Jawz of Wizzdom 2. Secret Syntheses (rmx) 3. Crystal Virus 4. Twisted Syster (rmx) 5. Artificial Intelligence 6. Die Nag Merrie 7. Doomsday 8. Dissrespekt 9. The Eye Goth kids were different. They wore all black and smoked in the bathroom. There were all sort of manner of piercings and a depression cloud followed them like that blue ink they put in pools so they can identify who was doing the peeing. They never seemed to like everything and to be honest they scared the crap outta me. Didn't they have parents who loved them? I played soccer with a lot of those guys in middle school so what made them take this turn? So yeah they were scary and different, but so was their music. Whitney Houston? Only if she was a cutter. To me this is one of the best psytrance albums of all time. Like the Goths it's not for the masses. At least it wasn't before every "twilight" artist co-opted the South African style with build-ups and stops and starts. Gone were the cotton candy pop nonsense that was force fed us at every turn. Nope, this was an apple with a razor blade in it. Each sound less accessible than the next, erupting with distortion and acid mayhem. Not darkpsy, but nowhere close to Vibe Tribe either. It was like looking over the Berlin Wall and wondering what the f*ck was going on over here? It's intense and melodic, but it challenged the scene to go beyond the easy play and dig deeper. I consider this a springboard and an important moment in psytrance. Almost 10 years later this still sounds as vibrant as it did when it came out. Without Twisted System, there would be no Tickets , Tryon , Ex-Gen , Multi state , Alienn... These new artists have taken what TS began with and ran with it. It blew the door off what you were listening to and made Timecode a house hold name. Well, at least with us. If you like South African psytrance with its dark melodies and thumping beats topped off with sounds you won't find on a Sesto Sento album I highly recommend this. Psyshop Beatspace Goastore Mdk

This puppy has definitely generated vastly different opinions. Boris is a legend so he can do whatever he wants with artistic license. He seems to excel these days doing the downtempo stuff and maybe that's because he was such a rock for so long with the trance thing that he's bored with it. Who knows, but his last album Higher Modes was an absolute stink fest and just labeling your music Ecstasy smacks of maybe a little too much confidence. But count me in the group that liked this release. The first two tracks didn't really sound like his style, and while I liked the first one, the second one...ZZZzzzzzz....*jerks awake and hits head on table* Damnit!!! The Prayer remix is good, but how is it different than the original again? Quit riding the coattails of great tracks! Psycho Acoustic s is a typical EU acid smash and so is Silence In Action. Funny that the latter wasn't put on the album...hmmm, I don't know...Silence In Action? I really like Music of the Spheres, Young Man On Acid and Holografic also, but let's be honest...it sounds like a lot of other EU tracks. The Riff...I can't get passed that nonsense at the beginning and the guitar doesn't get any better. This is subtraction by subtraction. Mdk

Unlike Avenida De Belgica or Mr. Peculiar's Infinite Evolution this remains a full-on powerhouse with depth. Samples abound and the tracks sound very lush. It can get very trancey at times but is far from cheesy. Mdk -
I have to say that my enjoyment of this album has taken a tumble as the years have gone by. It's good, but doesn't generate the euphoria I felt when I first heard it over and over again in 2007. I suppose artists have gotten better and more skilled at layering sounds and increasing the depth of their tracks these days. I hope he comes out with a new one to see if he still has the magic. Mdk

While some of the luster has come off this diamond, it's still pretty good. Numerous layers of melody in the full-on style. Mdk

Artist: Psilocybian Title: Brain Dissolver Label: Unreleased Date: 2012 1. Sponge 2. The Creator 3. Reality Bomb 4. Integrated Circuits 5. Brain Dissolver 6. Spooky Doobi Doo 7. Interconectedness 8. Human Show 9. Peyotl 10. Strange place to play Allow me to introduce to you one of the best psytrance artists you may not be listening to. I realize I shouldn't end a sentence with a preposition, but we've always been a little informal around here and it ain't like I'm writing a letter to Congress. The lack of the f word should make that clear. Ok, just one. "Hey Congress...f*ck you." I think I just gave my high school English teacher a stroke. This is Sasa Dukic and he is preparing to release his third album Dreamtime. The review is finished, but I thought it would be good to immerse myself in his previous works to see what he's all about. Wry Figments was good, but he's stepped up his game with this puppy. Sponge- Let's get down to business. And he does with an opener that flaunts some high tech atmosphere and moves with a little bad ass swagger. It gets a little rambly, but it eases you into his world. The Creator- Pumping beats and a rolling bass line set you up like bowling pins and he knocks you down with echoing leads and effects. Now. You're playing. With Power. Reality Bomb- "My dear friends you're now about to enter the nerve center. Inside of this room all of your dreams become realities, and some of your realities become dreams." Growling leads, intensity...what is not to like here. Gooey bass sounds, lasers and melodies. It's like Willy Wonka had a wet dream and it came out as cream cheese frosting. Integrated Circuits- Purely an effects driven track that is fit to burst with cyber energy and sounds. Amelodic on its face yet strangely warmed by the hum of machinery. Undulating electronic waves oscillate creating tributaries of neural pathways. Brain Dissolver- "From you alright?!? I learned it from watching you!" Lasers are fired in the opening salvo as more energy drips in fractal shapes on a cold and sterile floor. The layers multiply making this a storming track and a f*cking cracker of an omelet. Spooky Doobi Doo- Sounds fire into the atmosphere as the kick and bass hold you captive. Mesmerized by the spooky 1950's sound the break brings a massive lead streaking across the sky. You can't bury that 303 amidst all those layers. I hear you. Interconnectedness- Bubbling electronic energy hugs the beat and this really reminds me of the work of Braincell (how prophetic). Liquid sounds hang in the air crackling with multi-colored sparks. De-Licious! Human Show- More liquid sounds pool and it maintains the vibe, but this one was a little thin. Peyotl- "Peyote is supposed to give you a sense of peace and a feeling of oneness with nature." Not to mention a wicked high. You always leave that bit out and then you see yourself on YouTube running around a McDonald's with war paint on your face and a three iron in your hand declaring yourself lord and ruler of the deep fryer. Tragically, his mother's words finally rang true and his face did stay like that. This track is slower and preparing you for the come down. That's what I first thought, but the more I listened to it, the more trippy it became. Strange Place- Ending this psychedelic ride is a dubby piece of downtempo. Eerie with racing leads and a drum kit that is so real you'll think it's in your living room. Slower yet not slow it is a great way to come down. So that's his style. Bring the thundering kick to numb you, shower you with effects to transport you into his mind, and hypnotize you with swirling leads. Pretty good formula. There is always something going on with sounds in a perpetual ricochet. The mood is dark, but he doesn't abandon you to the black. He gives you a handrail of light to guide you. Another thing, he flirts with goa like an eighth grader flirts with his sister's blessedly overdeveloped friend during a sleepover. This really is an orgy of electronic bubbling and cyber sounds that create a futuristic and detailed tapestry. A few good tracks, but the rest are spectacular. It's a shame this was never released, but that will change very soon. Psyshop Mdk

Artist: Psilocybian Title: Dreamtime Label: Ovnimoon Records Date: October, 2013 1. Altjira with Braincell 2. Balangurrk with Via Axis 3. Dance of the Antelope with HoTep 4. Rainbow Serpent with Audioform 5. Honey Ant with Wizack Twizack 6. Nibulin 7. Wutjbin 8. Kutu Kari 9. Lamang 10.Alterjinga with Deimos You know not all black people have rhythm. And surely not every Asian subsists on rice alone Stereotypes are usually not true. They are commonly born out of fear and ignorance and can be just... Ok so that one's pretty true. Jesus Conan you look like you're trying to work out a log. But you know there are exceptions to the rule in a lot of... Yes Mexican food will do that to you. But if I said the Balkan people are taking over psytrance, I don't believe that to be hyperbole. F*ck he even has a neighbor (Hotep) on the album. The only neighbor I have is a redneck that hates black people and I don't think he plays an instrument unless it's that jug with the 3 x's on it. Whether it's progressive or goa trance they seem to have their finger on the pulse of electronic music. Case in point, Psilocybian is Sasa Dukic with his 3rd and most recent album and boy is it a cracker. If you didn't get a chance to check out his 2nd, Brain Dissolver you will soon. There has been a steady increase in quality with his releases and he is certainly moving in the right psychedelic direction. This release is visceral. Primal. Futuristic. Echoing effects along an infinite strand of DNA that never seems to stop unraveling. Bubbling sounds that surf atop a sea of electronic froth. The layers are many and he puts the sounds together seamlessly atop thumping beats. Apparently he got the idea for this release from the Otherland book series by Tad Williams. I tried to read that book, but it got hard so I quit. More of a pictures kinda guy I guess. So Kudos to him for pushing through. Some of the track names are aboriginal which means that I can't make fun of them. Well played sir, well played. He wants you to compose your own dreams and this music makes it very easy. While I wasn't impressed with the cover from his last effort this one gets top marks. He did it himself and and it's a reflection of the myriad thoughts running through his mind. Cyclops with a tennis racket? Elephant riding a nuclear weapon? That's out there dude. I haven't seen that kind of mental depravity since Wizack Twizack. And oh yeah he makes an appearance with several other artists on some great collaborations. There are some that may say it can get a little samey, but for me it was all part of the journey. It's a quality album that may restore your faith in psytrance with it's dark vibe and outstanding production. Highly recommended. Samples Bandcamp Mdk

Artist: Various Title: The Remixes EP Label: Yellow Sunshine Explosion Date: September, 2012 1. Psychedelic Future (Phaxe Remix) 2. Chameleon (Nerso Remix) 3. 7th Sense (Side Effects Remix) 4. Eastern Fantasy (Lyctum Remix) Not to be a dick, but shouldn't you be a household name before you present an EP or album of remixes? Was anyone really waiting for the Sideform Remixes? That being said I'll be waiting for the next one. Sideform are Serbians Drasko Radovanovic and Milos Modrinic with a fantastic quartet of remixes that are just chock full of atmosphere generating effects. Deep and multi-layered beauty with melodies that seem to float right before your eyes. I've never heard any of these songs so I treat them like brand new tracks. Don't know who invited the Danish kid to this Serbian party, but his track is also quite good. The stars for me were the Nerso and Lyctum remixes...pure poetry. Wide open melodic progressive with a dark feel just the way I like it. Reco - f*cking - mmended. Beatport Mdk

Artist: Various Title: Android Wave Label: Timecode Records Date: March, 2013 1. Open Water HUJABOY AND TICKETS 2. Power Of Six DISTANT TOUCH 3. Welcome To The Zoo TICKETS AND TERRAFRACTYL 4. The Doctor AUDIALIZE 5. April 2nd 1968 ANDROID SPIRIT FEAT. DILLAN M 6. Expect The Unexpected LEMURIANS 7. Plastik EARWORM AND TICKETS 8. Kiffen ABOMINATION, ANDROID SPIRIT, CONSTRUCTOR 9. Drop Of Water MENOG 10. Object 008 SULIMA What's this? A new Timecode compilation? Interesting. Excuse me a sec... Hell. Yes. The grandfathers of South African psytrance are back with their latest offering for all the twilight acid heads out there. For years they had set the standard for nighttime melodic darkness and catapulted their distinct sound into the ears of eager listeners. With their 30th release the track list is impressive put together by Tickets himself. And by the way he is on half the tracks on this thing be it as Tickets or Android Spirit. Open Water- "Just relax and let it go. Don't f*ck around. Just do it." Mr. Summs comes right out swinging with Hujaboy on the first track with that uneasy feeling the label has worked so hard to perfect. The whole "you done stepped in it now" vibe is ever present and hints at the wrong turn you may have just made. Good opener. Power of Six- This is a relatively new artist to the Timecode fold, but it seems like he's gonna fit right in. Lasers, acid, and atmosphere. Would've liked a little more power and chaos, but not bad. Welcome To The Zoo- Tickets has been getting away from the strict 4 on the floor stuff of his Timelapse album and becoming more theatrical and dare I say complex. Oh he'll still bring the heat and all his laser goodies, but even though he's getting more detailed it's missing its power. Good, but I find myself missing his chaotic monkey poo flinging acid ways. The Doctor- "At the end of the day I would feel like I was a legal drug pusher." Holy sh*t where the hell have you been? Probably having a great life gettin' high and banging multiple hot chicks at the same time you lucky bastard. Sounds like my life...you know minus the uh, drugs and multiple hot chicks. Oh, and you probably make way less trips to Wal-Mart. Nice to see you still use two scoops of acid in your psytrance. Good track. April 2nd 1968- I like the bass line in this one, its got oomph. Synth lines roll out amidst the firing of many lasers and it's just gathers momentum as it progresses. Expect The Unexpected- Nah I expected this track to blow and sure enough...It's more techy with a lot of percussive sounds as well as an extended break that is on par with wisdom teeth removal. By a Wal-Mart greeter. How the f*ck did this make it on here? Plastik- My main man Earworm from the US! Never, and I repeat, I have never heard a bad track from this guy. Lasers and acid rips erupt like you're in the middle of a firefight. The basses are warm and there are plenty of sounds to keep you busy. Great track. Kiffen- Lasers and a good groove keep this one hopping. At times floaty but more often than not bruising. Keep coming back to this one makes me want to dance. Hmmm...the wife's on call so... Worst. Harlem shake. Ever. Drop of Water- "As men busied themselves about their various concerns they observed. They observed and studied." Not one of Morgan's more stellar samples, but let's face it he could narrate what you had for breakfast and it would attract an audience. Daniel Bernardo needs no introduction as he's been doing the acid thing for quite some time. There was some dead space in the track early on, but he more than makes up for it with a blistering acid explosion. Good track. Object 008- Closing things out is Sulima whom I thought was a dakpsy guy. And he may be, but he ends this compilation rightly with pumping rhythms and several twists and turns down a creepy hallway. Good stuff. While this doesn't come close to their heyday back in the 2000's it's still pretty good. They represent the twilight sound with some very good tracks that will surely get you moving. Still scratching my head about that Lemurians track as it just didn't fit with any of the other tracks on the album. Oh well, like I said there's plenty of other acid laden goodness to consume. So congratulations Timecode, you've still got it. Psyshop Beatspace Goastore Mdk

Artist: Microcosm Title: Higher Levels Label: Released on Ektoplazm Date: October, 2011 01 - Ultraphoric Spacevibes (142 BPM) 02 - Eternal Circle (143 BPM) 03 - Beautiful Hallucinations (142 BPM) 04 - Ignition (141 BPM) 05 - When We All Come Together (142 BPM) 06 - Ultimatum (145 BPM) 07 - Perpetual Sunrise (144 BPM) 08 - Spacey Kebab (138 BPM) 09 - Destination Paradise (129 BPM) Dessert is good. Everybody likes dessert! You know McCoy was begging for a script where he could haul off and whack a b*tch. Bet he wishes it was Kirk though. Pies, cookies, fruit...somehow the French shoehorned cheese into the dessert cart and now the smooth bottom of dessert has a pimple on it. Old school goa trance is like a twelve layer chocolate cake with zero calories when done well. Pleiadians, Etnica, Transwave, Astral...all classics that never get old. Well make room at the table because here comes Microcosm. The Norwegian duo Fredrik Larsen and Georg Simonsen released and album that has been compared to Transdimensional by Dimension 5. And I fully agree. This was there only album and thanks to a close friend of theirs we are privileged to hear it. It is everything you could want in goa trance. Relentless, melodic, atmosphereic, entrancing, mind numbing. It soars and it growls, floats and dives. There were times I thought this could be D5 and times when I thought I heard a little M-Run and Crossing Mind. Just a marvelous piece of music. 2 bits of bad news. Primarily, Fredrik is no longer of this Earth. No idea how it happened, but let it be known that he was partially responsible for unleashing this old school beast on the masses. It should take it's place right up there with the more well known albums. Second, there is some background noise on the 320 mp3's. It's minor and for home listening it doesn't really sully the quality of this masterpiece. But you can hear it on some tracks. I've never been to a festival or party, but I imagine it wouldn't work on a big set of speakers. But who knows? If you are a fan of goa trance you already know about this. If it managed to slip under your radar, do yourself a favor and get thee to Ektoplazm and own this brilliant work or art. Free at Ektoplazm Mdk

Artist: PharaOm Title: Shelter 10 Label: Future Disorder Recordings Date: April, 2013 1. Welcome To Shelter 10 2. Inside the Core 3. Meeting Roy and Chip (Interlude) 4. Laser Highways 5. Anti-Gravity Module 6. Biomechanical Civilization 7. The Bucky Biospheres (Interlude) 8. Back To Titan 9. Nanosurgery I love science fiction and fantasy. Movies, books, comics...if that makes me a nerd then so be it. I've made an active effort to stay away from video games because that's a black hole of time into which I would surely plummet. Today things are different. It's not like it was when I was a kid. Now it's cool to be into "graphic" comics and as long as Hollywood keeps making millions on superhero movies you'll still see men running around in tight underwear. As well as the nerds who love them. PharaOm is Oswald Pfeiffer who recently released the remixes to his track Cellar Door as well as the very good Tesseract album for free. He's right back at it with more free music. Shelter 10 is a digital maxi EP that attempts to redefine what goa trance can be. Seemingly never satisfied with the status quo this album rides the space theme to a human (and extra terrestrial) colony that is filled with futuristic sounds, industrial machinery, as well as storming goa riffs. Jam packed I tell ya. There are even two interludes, one including two bickering robots. Corny yes, but it's all a rich tapestry. This is a great mixture of psytrance with goa elements that include experiments in dubstep that work very well. He closes things out with a competent downtempo track that attempts to put Humpty Dumpty back together again after some limb loss in the robot conflict. Story time. My favorite track has to be the blistering Biomechanical Civilization that just shreds anything unlucky enough to cross its path. The biggest step outside of the box has to be Back on Titan with its brief singing and out front guitars. But he balances it out with symphonic strings and more space goa. The whole thing is a marvelously detailed escape to the stars. Highly recommended. Free at Soundcloud Mdk

Artist: Interactive Noise Title: Synthetik Pleasure Label: Spintwist Records Date: February, 2012 1. Soundcheck 2. Disco beat 3. Zurich (Interactive Noise rmx) - DAY.DIN 4. Altered State 5. Synthetik Pleasure 6. Oscillations 7. The Transformers 8. Deep and pumping sound (Interactive Noise rmx) - AUDIOMATIC 9. Beethoven (Album Version) 10. Break time Spintwist Records has a distinct style. It's much more focused on the rhythm and groove than the stacking of melodies. Designed I assume to get asses wriggling and chicks giggling. And I can see how the huge kicks and bass grooves could do just that. But what if you don't go to parties? What if you're a middle aged guy that has two kids and a ton of laundry to do? F*ck that guy obviously, it's not meant for him. It's meant for this guy. Sh*t just got real. The music here does what it's supposed to do. Rhythmic with very little detail. Think of it as stripped down progressive. It's not going to set you dreaming with layers of melody or lush atmosphere. Doesn't care. It's a whisker away from house music and nobody ever contemplated the meaning of the universe while listening to house music. It's pumping kick and bass music for the party people that are whacked out of their mind on E. So for those who like to listen at home with some headphones, you'll be bored out of your skull if you choose this. Psyshop Beatspace Mdk

Artist: Klopfgeister Title: Smiles and More Label: Spintwist Records Date: August, 2012 1. Soultrigger (Klopfgeister Ambient Edit) - KLOPFGEISTER AND NOK, FEAT DEBBIE DIGITAL 2. Car Accident (Klopfgeister rmx) - INFINITY 3. Upgrade - DAY.DIN AND KLOPFGEISTER 4. Return to Atlantis (Klopfgeister rmx) - SHIVA CHANDRA AND DJ MAGICAL 5. Larger Than Life (Klopfgeister rmx) - MIDIMAL 6. Shadow of a smile (Klopfgeister 2012 Edit) - KLOPFGEISTER AND DAY.DIN 7. Flowrillaz 8. Seven Days - KLOPFGEISTER AND KOPEL 9. Jeff Vader (2012 Edit) 10. Meanwhile in Hamburg Jesus Thorsten you almost killed the poor guy! Thorsten Paul is the mind behind the well known project Klopfgeister and he might be facing attempted manslaughter charges in the near drowning of some guy in chair above. I know I've heard some great tracks from him, but this is the definition of mailing it in. Soultrigger (Klopfgeister Ambient Edit)- "You trigger my soul?" Oy vey. Car Accident (Klopfgeister rmx)- Let's just say that the first...ahem, track was an intro. I'm not unreasonable and am willing to overlook that short blurb. Here he remixes a very good track off the Infinity album Control Group from 2011 and I don't know how he managed to do it, but he made it boring. Take out everything that made the original great and reduce it to whatever this is. It's that minimal style of progressive trance that drives me crazy. Pure background music. The last bit is good, but when you make me wait 6 minutes for it I'm switching off. Upgrade- Ugh, more less is less style of progressive. Call me when there's a minute left in the track. It's been a long time since I've been in school, but I'm pretty sure that upgrade means improvement. What exactly are you upgrading? The only way this could've been more sleep inducing is if you forgot to turn the equipment on. In the spirit of fairness, the break is a nice piece of eerie, but there really is a void of interesting activity in this track. Return To Atlantis (Klopfgeister Rmx)- Peter Rabbit's never going to make deadline with this on his iPod. Take an already boring track and raise it to the 4th power. Larger Than Life (Klopfgeister Rmx)- This was easily the best one so far. It's smooth and full of feeling. But I'm wondering why it took until track 5 to do this? Shadow Of A Smile (Klopfgeister 2012 Edit)- Why is there singing in my psytrance? What's that? Touche. This isn't psytrance. And holy f*ck was that a little bit of the Imperial March? What did we do to deserve this? Flowrillaz- I like the melody on the back end of this track, but there is not enough to keep me interested. 40 seconds of good and 6 minutes of ZZzzz...is a poor ratio. Seven Days- and this is what that felt like. Jeff Vader (2012 Edit)- I loved the "da-da" symphonic part and it worked really well with the beat. So high marks for a remix of your own track. But...what else. Meanwhile in Hamburg- Wow. Talk about going out with a whimper. I understand that this was probably not meant for people that share my tastes. There is obviously a section of people that enjoy this minimalistic and simplistic house influenced music. It just ain't me. Don't call it psytrance because there's nothing psychedelic about it. Smiles & More? Maybe. If by "more" you mean frowns and wasted time. Psyshop Beatspace Mdk

Artist: Flict Title: Explorers EP Label: Self-Released Date: April, 2012 01 - Explorers (55 BPM) 02 - Against The Wind (75 BPM) 03 - To-And-Fro (80 BPM) 04 - Starlight (80 BPM) I had been meaning to get to this one a while ago, but it just kept getting pushed back. This is Dan Flict who released his debut Explorers back in 2009 so I guess this was just a refresher so more people could give it a listen. The first track is a deep journey to the bottom of the sea interacting with creatures in their native environment. Slow like bubbles rising from your scuba gear. Against the Wind is more slow motion turtle movements and dreamy views below a hazy ocean. To-And-Fro sees the first steady beat appear and Buddhist like monk chants echo deeply beneath the sea. Didn't connect as well with this one. The final track Starlight puts a picture of light on a nighttime sea as dubby bass hums against weird human noises. Odd. He's good at creating textures and deep feeling ambient with a liquid and bubbly quality. At least with this release. Hope he is still producing music. Free At Ektoplazm Mdk

Artist: Flowjob Title: Sway Label: Iboga Trance Date: June, 2011 1. The return of Raveheart 2. Mercury calling (More Info from the U.F.Os) 3. Goas Ark 4. Behind the speaker 5. Boomerangutang 6. So many dynamos 7. Pimp your hat 8. Still waiting for the future 9. Panic in purple 10. Lightyear "Did you know that we're made of stardust?" We are what we eat and I don't remember eating any of that. Now if you told me that we're made of pizza that's something I can get behind. Flowjob used to be a duo from Denmark, but now it's the solo project of Joakim Hjorne. Their previous two albums Support Normality and Zentertainment were pretty good forays into progressive trance. This is the third album of the project a nd it has made a left turn into house town. Sure they've always flirted with...those people, but now he's embraced them like, well He opens with The Return of Ravenheart and it's a good progressive tune with an epic opening as the melodies rain down. It's a positive party track. Goas Ark is blatant false advertising and Boomerangutang is pure filler with an annoying use of the vocoder. So Many Dynamos is like a transition track, clearly a dividing line between what you've just heard and what's to come. But then it's drag queens, disco whistles, and shiny balls as track after track goes the house route. And that's cool, if that's what you're into. I'm being hyperbolic, but only just. Surprisingly a We Are Family remix wasn't a hidden bonus track. As much as I dislike house music, his talent shines through with hypnotic melodies on tracks like Panic In Purple. And while I hate the vocal on Still Waiting For The Future, there is a euphoric quality to it as well as a cool bouncy vibe during the final bit. So aside from the first track I was disappointed in what the album became. Heavy on the house influences without a trace of psychedelia to be found. The progressive parts were even subpar without a lot of detail. Nothing we haven't heard before. I'll pass on this one. Psyshop Beatspace Goastore Mdk

Artist: Lamat Title: V Label: Morphonic Records Date: December, 2011 1. Predators LAMAT AND HAN SOLO 2. Perfect System (The Legacy) LAMAT 3. Cartell me about it (FFT rmx) LAMAT AND DSP 4. Remastered Controller LAMAT AND HAN SOLO 5. New Technologies LAMAT AND HAN SOLO 6. Mind Control Neuro Transmitor LAMAT AND HAN SOLO 7. The Resistance LAMAT AND ASTROMOVIL 8. Magnetic LAMAT AND INFERENCE Who's ready for some full on? Please? Not even for a twinkie? C'mon everyone, we can do this. Maybe. Lamat is Marcos A. Sánchez from Mexico and I'll tell you that his debut Master Control is still one of my favorite full-on albums. Chock full of melodies and pumping beats it was on my playlist for many months. Then I kinda lost track of what he was doing, but now I want to see if he still brings the heat. On this his fifth album most of the tracks he works with other artists. What I will tell you, is that it is full-on to the bone with tons of sci-fi movie samples. With the exception of the last track they all seem to be in the 145 bpm range which makes it hard to find differences in the tracks. This would've sounded great 6 or so years ago, but now it seems full of cheese. And some samples... "You're gonna have to show me what to do. What's your favorite number? Mine's 69. Would you like me to show you?" It's sh*t like this that makes me cringe. Hearing people say corny things during sex is not what I want to listen to. And I didn't even include the whole sample. F*cking horrible. Know who likes that? Immature high school kids or men that won't grow up. So while everyone matures it seems that Marcos has not and psytrance has passed him by. We've all had that friend who lives in the past doing the stuff we thought was funny back in the day. Only now it's not funny. It's sad. "Oh, the humanity!" Someone tell Marcos that his career just went down over New Jersey. Psyshop Beatspace Goastore Mdk
