Artist: Metaphorical Cloud Title: Morphing Label: Flying Woofer Records Date: July, 2011 1 - Imagination Bay (120 BPM) 2 - Cenosis (120 BPM) 3 - Gardens (70 BPM) 4 - Morphing (101 BPM) 5 - Sphere (103 BPM) 6 - Substance (99 BPM) 7 - Quartz (120 BPM) 8 - Psyche (70 BPM) 9 - Backward (68 BPM) 10 - Aerobios (107 BPM) 11 - Thenaria (62 BPM) Flying Woofer Records? Never heard of them, but I might start paying attention now. This is Eduard Sionov from that huge landmass known as Russia with his debut. I don't know what's in the water over there (yes I do, it's Chernobyl goodness...where do you think zombies come from?) but there seem to be a lot of quality artists from that region. Which is great for the listening public. Eduard lavishes us with floating pads and electronic textures as the beat marches slowly on. Hard day at work? Put this on. Kids being a pain in the ass? Stick 'em in front of some Team Umizoomi and put this on. Utterly relaxing stuff that allows you to float amongst the puffy clouds. Sometimes those clouds smile back at you letting the sunshine through, and sometimes it's a bit overcast, so it's a good mix of brooding darkness and light. Recommended. Free at Ektoplazm Mdk

Artist: Various Title: Christiania Selection Vol. 2 Label: Iono Music Date: November, 2012 1. Twisted Mind TIME IN MOTION, FLEXUS 2. Limitless OPPOSITE8 3. Lord of the swing AUDIOMATIC, CORONA 4. Progressive Love OSHER 5. Put your sunglasses on STATIC MOVEMENT 6. Smash Up ALION 7. All your needs SUNTREE 8. Individual pattern of life IMPACT AND SIMPLY WAVE 9. Maelkevejen MOTION DRIVE "I assumed for awhile that he wasn't satisfying all your needs. That's gonna change I promise you." Sounds like someone is in for a helluva night! But on to a more serious topic. Nobody lives forever. All we can hope for as a species is that we leave something behind, a legacy that somehow made the world a better place. And if not better, maybe...more ridiculous. Yesterday we lost a soul whose contribution to quality music was always in doubt. But his impact on popular culture can never be questioned. So I ask you to take a moment and maybe pour out a little liquor (not the good stuff) and remember. If not for this pioneer we would never have thought to wear our clothes backwards. Suburban children always looking for the next thing to confuse their parents filled the streets with joy. But as quickly as it came, it was gone. Yet another fad slain by the hand of middle class white kids on their way to soccer practice. So just like G-G-G-Unit and ending any word with "izzle" this fad takes it's rightful place in the pop culture graveyard never to be resurrected. Warm it up Chris, I'm about to. Cause that's what I was born to do. Indeed. So anyway, Iono Music the leader in progressive trance is back with the second installment of the inmates running the asylum. If you don't know what the hell I'm talking about here is a little information on the inspiration for this series. I love this label as they provide the progressive trance I enjoy with big melodies and effects that saturate the brain. Compiled once again by Flexus (Stefan Goransson) you'll see names you know and those that are less familiar. First thing you might notice is that the cover is damn near identical to the first one. Guess what, the music is too. Wide open progressive trance with expansive breaks that allow you to soak the atmosphere in. Melodies dominate as they float from one measure to another. That's not to say there isn't some filler such as Alion's Smash Up which is a whole pillowcase full of Zzzz.... Put on Your Sunglasses sounds like it rolled around in cream cheese with a sample that is cringe worthy. Better than the first one? Nah I don't think so, but there are a few good tracks to be found here. Psyshop Beatspace Goastore Mdk

Artist: Various Title: The Return of Quetzalcoatl Label: Timewave Records Date: November, 2011 1 - ShaMANoiD - Walking In The Desert (100 BPM) 2 - Brujo's Bowl - Organic Structures (80 BPM) 3 - Digital Conception - The Mystical Quest (70 BPM) 4 - Iacchus - Frogspawn (120 BPM) 5 - Spunje - Mystic Forest (120 BPM) 6 - Normala - Dreamwards Again (110 BPM) 7 - Ascetic - Mutant (120 BPM) 8 - Progress - Spring Is Over (120 BPM) 9 - Iacchus - Flex (140 BPM) Quetzalcoatl- A Mesoamerican deity whose name means feathered serpent. Patron saint of knowledge and learning as well as the Aztec priesthood. And the patron saint of me sh*tting my pants if I ever saw it. Don't know about the feathers though. This album says it's the return. I wasn't aware that he went anywhere. And feathered serpent...serpent dictates reptile and when was the last time you saw a reptile with feathers. Other than the bird it just ate. I know there were dinosaurs with feathers, but they evolved. Just sayin' stuff is open to interpretation. If you put something silly on what's supposed to be evil (like a serpent), doesn't that take the fear out of it? Vampire? Scary. Vampire in India? F*cking ridiculous. Walking in the Dessert- Where's the f*cking Bollywood! Funky and groovy? Yessir, it's got the authentic Indian sound with the dubby bass and sitar/tabla combo. Any closer to India and you'd be dodging cow sh*t. I think you're doing it wrong. Organic Structures- Brujo have you ever heard of a short track? I suppose it's gonna be what it's gonna be. He wants you to melt into this one. It's super slow with some wobbly bass and high speed percussion. The skittering effects are pretty cool, but I look up and I'm only halfway through. If I was high this would seem like 2 hours! Not bad, but went on for way too long. The Mystical Quest- Am I at the feet of the Himalayas? Mystical for sure as it slowly carves its way around the mountain. I'm pretty sure I'm still in my chair, but the time was 4:20 the last time I checked. Not kidding. All I can see are expatriated hippies with mismatched clothing and dirty feet. It's almost as long as the previous track, but it's not stuck on the same phrase for 5 minutes. Totally relaxing and mind opening. Bra-vo. Frogspawn- A little cheesy for my liking this ambient has some thunderous drums in its arsenal. But ah...hmmmm. That's about it. Mystic Forest- I like the catchy rhythm and the funk increases when the bass appears. But it doesn't make me think of a mystic forest. It makes me think of of this guy. Ain't nothin' mystical about that guy except how he keeps gettin' tail. Dreamwards Again- Yawn. Mutant- Double Yawn. You should enjoy listening to music right? Spring Is Over- Ok we need a little progress based on the last couple of tracks. Things slow down as this one is a thinkers track. Pensive, with real world instruments. Doesn't last though as it has an intermission where things speed up before it gets back to its laid back ways. Good stuff. Flex- Hey look, it's a balloon animal. This one flexes its psytrance muscles with a healthy breakbeat. Alas, like a roided out meathead above it has a tiny penis. I'm not one to look a gift horse in the mouth so thanks to all involved and Ekto for making this free. I felt that the Digital Conception and Progress tracks were head and shoulders above the rest. The others...I could take them or leave them. Free at Ektoplazm Mdk

Artist: Various Title: Space Forming Vol. 2 Label: Gliese581C Date: January, 2011 1 - Disia - ...I Still Don't Know Who I Am (65 BPM) 2 - Den Wave - Earth (111 BPM) 3 - Hello Mellow - A Passage In Time (90 BPM) 4 - Tara Putra - Error In Babylon (74 BPM) 5 - Globular - Squabbling Gods (88 BPM) 6 - Unusual Cosmic Process - Mission X (115 BPM) 7 - Divided Harmonics - Exorcism (Wrong Mantra Remix) (110 BPM) 8 - Wylhelm - Bem Sol (110 BPM) 9 - In Orbit - On A Train To East Malwern (97 BPM) 10 - Hyperwind - OneFreeMan (80 BPM) 11 - Sport & Music - Pazzle (Original Mix) (128 BPM) Discogs tells me that this is from 2010, yet Ekto's release page says it's from 2011. "If you can't decide in one day...you can't decide." Gliese581C is a Russian netlabel that is a mainstay on Ektoplazm, releasing loads of quality music. This is the 2nd part of the Space Forming series with artists that have also put out EP's. Most of them anyway. What you get is floaty ambient and downtempo music in a bunch of styles. From the short glitchy break beat of Disia to the floating sound of Den Wave. And that's just the first two tracks. Dubby beats make you feel at home whether sipping a cool one on the beach or drifting above the Earth. The bass on Squabbling Gods is indeed a window rattler. And the manner in which Mr. Bennett manipulates the vocals in his tracks brings to mind the work of Shpongle. The sample in Mission X is tasty as are the goa elements. The rest of the tracks are pretty good, but nothing to make me stand on the rooftops and demand that you pay attention to this. But you should pay attention to this. Because it only costs your attention. Free at Ektoplazm Mdk

Artist: Radioactive.Cake Title: Subatomic Disco Label: Glitchy.Tonic.Records. Date: December, 2011 1 Geist (Intro) 2 Hemispherical Conflict (138 BPM) 3 Bending Rodriguez (137 BPM) 4 Dawn (137 BPM) 5 Harsh Softness (138 BPM) 6 Pure Progression (137 BPM) 7 Reality #26 (135 BPM) 8 The Dude Abides (137 BPM) 9 Onionbrain - Desert Song (Radioactive.Cake Remix) (135 BPM) "All I know is that this is different." I like cake. Who doesn't like cake? This is Robert Hundt founder of the label with I believe his 2nd release. So what's he got baking? A heaping teaspoon of darkness that's what. Imagine celebrating a funeral...with cake. There are elements of darkpsy, minimal, forest, progressive, and glitch that will sit in your stomach like a rock. Heavy effects swirl amidst basses that seem impossibly low. He seems skilled at putting sounds together that wouldn't normally gel, but it adds to the creepiness. The atmosphere is thick with with dread as the beats pulsate, leaving sonic waves in their wake. Melodies? Maybe as an afterthought. Go dig up some Vibe Tribe if you're scared. It's super trippy and very well produced sounding great on headphones. Immersing yourself in the music...like trying to dig out of your own grave. There is some filler there and some songs seem to drag on for way too long so it can be heavy to get through. I liked the 2nd half better than the first as I found it deeper with a more storytelling vibe. When you're tired of the same old stuff this is a welcome change of pace. Ever look at something dark and slimy and wonder what the f*ck it is? This is it. Second helping? You bet. Just remember to save room for cake. Free at Ektoplazm! Mdk

Artist: Pop Art Title: Clean Taste Label: Synergetic Records Date: March 2013 1. Some Fucked up 2. Lets get started (vs Omiki) 3. American Vempire 4. You Freak (vs Kopel) 5. Feeling Flow 6. Move your body 7. PoQuake (vs. Q.U.A.K.E) 8. Kick and Drum 9. Hypnotic Energy (Pop Art rmx) LIQUID SOUL I should've known. I really should've. Pop Art is the psy-gressive side project of Indra, one of the leading names in watered down commercial full-on. And it seems he brought his bag of tired, uninspired tricks to the progressive genre for a full album of stuff we have tried to avoid. It's a tough task and not everyone can do this. Osher from Ananda Shake comes to mind as one of the successful ones. But this? Do you love repetitive and annoying samples? Me neither but, this guy does. Simple bass lines? Disc is full of them. Cliche sounds that make you cringe? Oh, you betcha. Open your f*cking eyes sheeple, this is why everyone makes fun of our music. There is absolutely nothing remotely psychedelic about this album so if the mods deem that it shouldn't be reviewed here, I understand. As a matter of fact it's so bad I move that we change the album cover from the above to this: But I'm not mad at him. This is what he does. It should come as no surprise. No I'm upset at Synergetic Records who were "more than proud" to present this. After releasing loads of quality progressive they somehow thought it would be a good idea to attach their name to this dumbing down of electronic music. "Welcome to my house?" Get the f*ck outta here. "There's a message in your inbox..." - actual sample The only thing I want in my inbox from you is an apology. Not for making cheesy music, but for not insisting it come with a warning label so I don't accidentally infect myself with this drivel. I know we haven't yet hit the halfway point of 2013, but this gets my vote for worst CD of the year. Clean taste? More like bad taste. Mdk

Before Filipe went batsh*t crazy he was (is) a very talented producer of goa trance. Never afraid to stretch the boundaries of what everyone's preconceived notions of what goa trance could be, this is a perfect example. The intro and outro are cinematic and there are plenty of playful melodies throughout. He's also a guy that knows how to throw a concussion grenade in your living room with blasters like Stuck In The Walls, Flying Cookie, and Seq-Uoia. I don't think I would've noticed the guitars if someone hadn't said anything so whoever that was can I have your address I need to mail you a punch in the face. It is repetitive and can be a lot to get through in one sitting, but it's still quality. Plenty of layers to dig through that isn't just four on the floor. There is a 2nd album full of old tracks being released by Phototropic soon and I plan on buying that one as well. Recommended for sure. Psyshop Beatspace Goastore Mdk Mdk

K.O.B. - Go Cyborg! ... 08:06 04. Jikkenteki - Automagic (Subra Remix) ... 07:53 05. PortaMento - Sugar Shock ... 07:37 06. Liquid Flow - Synergy ... 08:12 07. Clearly we've entered a new age of stripping where games will have to be raised. So yes they do. But most of the time you have to crawl before you can walk and that is what this label did. Before they gave you M-Run and Portamento, they gave you sliced produce and this. The second release from Cronomi Records saw them finding their way. Building on the diversity of Freshly Cut Tomato they refined their sound and came up with some blistering tracks. Go Cyborg had some good pace to it and I think it is my favorite K.O.B. track. The two shining stars are Sugar Shock by Portamento and Levitation Device by Artifact303. Melodic and powerful they explore a deep style. The Amanians track was also an unexpected high paced thrill ride. What I don't understand is why the label put that small blurb at the end. It serves no purpose but to annoy. Same thing on the Tomato album. Good compilation that was a step up from their debut and the qulity continued to improve with each release. Way to go Cronomi! Goastore Beatspace Psyshop Discogs Mdk

I like tomatoes. They're good. Could you imagine spaghetti without them? This is now 5 years old and shows that Cronomi wasn't afraid to take a chance. It's full of different styles of goa trance with something for everyone. I stand by my review, but have come to appreciate Anakalouth's track a little more. Not because I like the minimal style (far from it), but because if you're up in space orbiting the earth, things don't happen very quickly. Making this the perfect soundtrack for being stuck way up there while life goes on like normal down here. The last three tracks remain the cornerstone of this compilation. Mdk

Artist: Various Title: Forest Beings II Label: Biijah Records Date: January, 2012 01 - Nammah Ohm - Tibetan Lamas Chants (150 BPM) 02 - Cromaniac vs Drakphaser - Jump...Eeasy! (148 BPM) 03 - Aegolius - Twisted Dimensions (149 BPM) 04 - Hallucinated Hologram - Hallucination Trigger (148 BPM) 05 - Oculomotorius - Neurotic Plants (149 BPM) 06 - Goch - Reckless Tree (148 BPM) 07 - Seven Dark vs Lab - Psychedelic Connections (147 BPM) 08 - Ataro vs Babak vs Full Lotus - Id Monster (150 BPM) 09 - Shiva3 - Merrow (152 BPM) "We tend to see things other people can't see." Right. Of course you can. So...you're watching all the time then? Oh boy...that's embarrassing. For me the only way I can appreciate this dark forest trance is during the wee hours of the morning when the kids are deep in their sleep patterns and I can't get into mine. Down in the basement all by myself. I mean, it's not a basement like the horror movies. It's finished and very comfortable. Like a man cave. But in the darkness down here...I'm seeing sh*t. The basses are deep and rumbly and the details of this nightmare come to life. There is no pretense of wanting to befriend me. No attempt to gain my trust. Just darkness. Supernatural beings that have no intention of letting me get out of here alive. I know that they've drugged me cause I can feel it, but it's ok. They keep flashing horrible images on a blood splattered screen and I can't help but think that I...hey I know that kid...yeah that's the bully from down the street. What happened to him? Haven't seen him for a... Oh. Yeah he was a dick, but nobody deserves that. Well, I guess Hitler. And probably Chris Brown. Oh yeah Justin Beiber too. He needs some of this. Liquid sounds bubble all around me as the hallucinogenic nightmare gets deeper and...I can smell the music. I didn't think despair had a soundtrack, but here we are. It's so vivid and like tributaries from a river will lead you down a lot of paths. None of them hopeful. If you're a cutter and suffer from depression steer clear of this cause they might be playing this at your funeral. Closed casket. I liked this one better than the first. The detail is sick with so many twists and turns. It can get really heavy at times with so much darkness weighing you down. Not something I would put on everyday or at the high school reunion unless you wanted a whole Carrie thing going on. But if you're in the dark and like detail in your forest music, where you can see all the creatures that only come out at night, then strap on the hiking boots and grab your ax. You're gonna need it. Scare the sh*t out of yourself for free. Mdk

Artist: Orca Title: Insanity Now EP Label: Disasterpeace Records Date: March, 2013 1. Freek 2. Alien Conspiracy feat. Hiyarant 3. Straight To Hell "This...is going...to..." Suck? Blow sweaty monkey dick? Appeal to the lowest common denominator and make your family sad? Well, it doesn't do that, but the first track has elements of all three I would imagine. Look, if you throw a grapefruit over the plate you gotta be prepared to get a little dizzy. *Holds head in hands* Look what you made me do, use a baseball reference. Which means I just crushed your sh*t over the left field wall. What possessed you to make such a vapid commercial wasteland of a first track? And that buildup...I've had paper cuts that felt better after I refilled a salt shaker. Go sell that to Nutek would you? Alien Conspiracy is better and good to see you working with Hiyarant. It can only help. Straight to hell is a hugely fun track that will get you moving with all its crazy scraping leads. It's relentless and some of the best stuff since Fist of Fury. Reminds me a lot of Frozen Ghosts barely contained insanity. Yummy. Disasterpeace continues to be a destination for the rip roaring twilight and it's good to see Alon make a recovery on this EP after that...ahem, hiccup. So like Meatloaf said... Artist: Talamasca Title: Beyond The Mask Label: 3D Vision Date: 2000 1. The Hunted Becomes The Hunter 2. The Flow Remix 3. Wake Up! 4. Drops Of Madness (Talamasca Remix) - Elixir 5. Strangers 6. Telepathic Atmosphere 7. Are You the Machines 8. Halloween 9. Beyond The Mask "Now I'm warning you. It's going to be a wild ride. Don't pass out...no matter what happens." There is a certain amount of cheese when it comes to Talamasca these days. After all this is the guy who named himself DJ Lestat. Probably was cool 15 years ago, but now? Actual photo. Yeah, not so much. Have to give him credit though, he was partly responsible for the creation of 3D Vision and that label turned out to be a scorcher delivering some of the best searing night time psytrance. This was his first solo album and believe it or not he is still releasing music. I haven't heard his latest album, but I have heard. of. it. *gnashes teeth and drools a little too much* Released in 2000 for it's time it must've been something. Minimal was on the verge if not already in full swing which is kinda funny because how can something that is minimal be full of anything? But this had melodies and plenty of bubbling goa elements. Throw in a truckload of sci-fi samples and he definitely made his mark. The Flow remix has a massive synth wall that tumbles down with liquidity and dark, brooding effects. That eerie break is a nasty bit of business. Strangers has a sample from one of my favorite movies Dark City and flexes some goa muscle. Halloween is another memorable goa track. These days Cedric Dassulle is just another full-on maven releasing commercial stuff that is here today and gone tomorrow. Fair to say that this was his landmark achievement and up to now has yet to be equaled. It's powerful, atmospheric, and still sounds great today. Mdk

Artist: Various Title: Audio Discharge Label: Replicant Records Date: March, 2013 1. EMP - Paranoia Destroyer 2. Tryon - Warning Shots 3. Iliuchina - LSD Block Remix 4. sHiFt - Punp (Tantrum Remix) 5. Tryambaka - X 6. X-Side - Hyper sleep (Tantrum Remix) 7. Jaws Underground & Catarsis - We Are Leigon 8. Tantrum & Iron Assault - Audio Discharge 9. Smugg Juggler - This Is It (Hiyarant Remix) 10. Sonic Assault - Delirium "What the f*ck is going on?" Sometimes you need a good punch in the face. "Yeah I'm in line. What's that? Oh...no bats? Ok, just fists then." Hard to believe this idiot is famous. You didn't do anything except get your pudding pounded on tape. Well...you did shame your family so I guess that's something. Can't wait to hear how she explains how mommy and her ginormous ass got famous. "Mommy who is that black guy and why is he trying to jump over you?" While Kim K. is an obvious choice I was speaking musically and metaphorically. Goa is awesome, progressive trance can be dreamy and vivid, and downtempo is what it is. But give me some twilight music with some f*cking balls and I'm listening. Now I wouldn't know Replicant Records if I tripped over them, but Tantrum seems to have assembled quite a track list here. Several styles of the night-time music are represented. We all know that doesn't guarantee success as numerous compilations continue to prove. But if you're looking for music for a workout, driving, or just setting up that bondage studio for that cute school librarian with the horn rimmed glasses who crinkles her nose when she smiles than this is for you. This discharges all over your face with thumping beats, malicious intent, and enough sticky icky acid that it will require a few hair washings. Lasers will have you ducking for cover as this storms with track after track of barely controlled chaos. It's dark and futuristic with effects that crackle and hum with energy. Some of the leads I didn't like, but they were brief, succumbing to the onslaught of those I did. Recommended. "Yes sweetie I have that library book that's overdue. I meant to return it, but I get so forgetful these days. Of course, it's right over there on top of that shelf. Would you be a dear and get that for me? So sweet." F*ck Geico, I'm off the clock. Artist: Various Title: Binaural Beats 2 Label: TesseracT Studios Date: September, 2012 1. Sundance FLOAT 2. Ray Of Joy PION 3. Ace THE RIDDLER 4. Like You IVENT HORIZON 5. Switch Blade AVAX 6. Time Distortion VERTEX 7. Norwegian Wood E-CLICK 8. Universal Language MORTEN GRANAU AND VICE 9. Protector (Avax rmx) VERTEX AND FLOAT 10. Destiny PROMID "Just think what you're thinking, feel what you're feeling, experience whatever you're experiencing." TesseracT Studios has long been known to deliver the melodic and effect laden progressive trance that will have you floating amidst the clouds. Awesome stuff. So here they are with the second installment of their Binaural Beats series and just like its predecessor it's a slight departure from the comfort zone. It's still progressive trance yet it has a bit of a house swag and even some dubby elements. Some names you will know if you follow this genre like the Riddler, Vertex, Float...Vertex & Float. Then of course there will be some equally capable yet lesser known projects. The cover is exactly the same as the first one just a different color. Some might call that lazy, but not me. I'm a guy that has let dryed laundry sit in the basket for a week. What's the point of putting it away you're just going to pull it out and wear it. Wrinkles? Get an iron you lazy f*ck. Sundance- That house vibe / dub bass is evident from the first track as Float delivers a smooth and soft number. If you've read my reviews you know that house music and I don't get along, but this is so calming and relaxing that's appreciated after a hectic day. Ray of Joy- Pion's track is a little on the minimal side for me, yet still enjoyable with it's bob your head gait. The melody at the end hangs in the air like Febreeze and makes me smile. Ace- Goran has obviously been bitten by the progressive bug and he's damn good at it. More warm kicks and dreamy synths with those eerie melodies he loves to bring. It's like a funhouse up in here, but I'm so high that I don't see the clown with the knife. Like You- It begins like any other generic track, but the melody warbles out of nowhere. But before you get your hopes up, the "No one like you" sample pushes the needle on the get the f*ck outta here sample. Switch Blade- Time Distortion- Norwegian Wood- This should be nominated for the most generic track...of all time. Whew. I would love to visit Norway, but this isn't helping. The Beatles must be turning over in their grave. What? Two of them are still alive? Are you sure? I think you're thinking of the Monkees... Universal Language- "There's no right way to do this. There's no wrong way to do this." Beg to differ sir or... did you just ignore the three turds in a row that just preceded this track? Hard to recover from that. But this track will make you forget about all that turdosity. The tension grows and the vocal manipulation is a little Agent Smith uncomfortable if you know what I mean. Melt into that break as it coalesces around you. Nice ain't it? Like jumping into a swimming pool of jello. Now with more baby. Protector- Meh. Not terrible, but if you put this track with the other 3 consecutive snoozeballs you might've had a record of mediocrity that could very well have ripped open the time space continuum eradicating life as we know it. So, for at least track placement you're a hero. Destiny- Very mellow complete with sitar melody. The foreign language sample ups the cliche factor a bit, but...you finish that sentence. This is an average compilation. Maybe. If you are in the mood to wind down, but aren't ready for the downtempo stuff this could fill the need. Unfortunately there is more than the fair share of filler to be found here. But the tracks that are good are really good. Perfect example of download what you need. I imagine this one won't go on the resume. Beatspace Psyshop Mdk

New school gems that never got the recognition they deserve
Trance2MoveU replied to Ormion's topic in General Psytrance
Two albums off the top of my head were Speedball- Human Disorder. Dark and intense twilight music. One of my all time faves. Kut n paste- Relapse awesome delicious twilight. They're from 2009 so maybe they don't count for this discussion. Mdk -
Artist: Tickets Title: The Slayer of the Jabberwocky EP Label: Planet B.E.N. Records Date: June, 2012 1. Trial of Life 2. Smash 3. Tum Tum Tree 4. The Ingredient "I...am...the lord...of...darkness!" Remember when Timelapse came out back in 2006 and just blew the doors off of everything, firmly positioning South African psytrance at the top of the pyramid? Not like they needed any help, but man it just seemed like that corner of the world kept releasing smash after smash of dark melodies and thunderously pumping music. As you can tell from the above sample this is darker and I suppose more cinematic in scope. Evil terms in the title alone dictate that. You don't really want to know a slayer (I used to be a slayer of Twinkies) and the Jabberwocky in Alice in Wonderland was frightening. I cannot confirm this, but it seems as if there is a Principles of Flight influence on this EP. Symphonic strings, medieval vibes and somewhat of a story to be told mark this release. The harpsichord sound in Tum Tum Tree made me smile and harkened back to old Talpa machinations. It's different than his albums past, but his talent and acid is still evident. Whereas the older stuff was four on the floor get the f*ck outta the way, this is more detailed and subtle. What was once a brawler is now a surgeon in the ring. Oh he can still smash your face, but he likes to toy with you first. And isn't it the quiet ones you have to watch out for? Beatport JunoDownload AudioJelly Psyshop Mdk

Artist: Talpa Title: Disease Within EP Label: TesseracTStudio Date: March, 2013 1. Disease Within 2. You Again Goran Juric is back with another release under the Talpa moniker. It's getting harder and harder to separate Talpa from The Riddler and the fact that this is released on TesseracT Studios further cements that theory. The Art of Being Non was released almost a decade ago and was a landmark in psytrance with its dark symphonic atmosphere and psychedelic melodies. The next album...not so much, but he began to make a comeback with The Path released two years ago. Disease Within sounds just like the Riddler with smooth beats and that eerie vibe that suits both of his projects. Check out that chunky synth warble. You Again sounds more like Talpa with more frenetic melodies. Only this guy could make a simple falling synth riff that funky. So a very good EP showcasing the talent from Goran on the progressive and psychedelic side. Beatport Psyshop Juno Download AudioJelly Mdk

Artist: Orca Title: Computer Action EP Label: Planet B.E.N. Records Date: February, 2013 1. Computer Action 2. Fizzy Lifting Drinks Orcas...pfffft what do they know about computers? Mr. Fists of Fury Alon Lifer is back with a brief 2 track EP. I liked his album, but that was 5 years ago. In this hectic what have you done for me lately world...what have you done for me lately? Well he showed some love for the Beastie Boys as the first track is full of samples from the famous project. But the rest of the track is a commercial waste amidst stops and starts and galloping bass lines. Fizzy Lifting Drinks takes a great sample by Mr. Gene Wilder (Willy Wonka) and then makes a tune that the scene has unfortunately been overly saturated with. Boring full-on with build-ups. Throw it on the pile with the others. Back to the drawing board. Psyshop Beatport Mdk
