Artist: Helber Gun Title: From Another Planet EP Label: Iono Music Date: January, 2012 1. From Another Planet 2. Angel Eyes (Helber Gun Remix) - Flegma & Nerso 3. Land of 2 Suns (Helber Gun Remix) - Aqualize "If suddenly there was a threat to this world from some other species from another planet...." Well, we would probably form a committee that would decide whether or not to investigate the possibility of malicious intent by the visitors. Of course the Democrats would want to pay for it by closing tax loopholes for wealthy corporations. After the Republicans shot that down, they would introduce their own measure organizing a commission, but they would slide in a provision that says all homosexuals must be herded into an internment camp so they could...ahem...pray the gay away. Does nothing work? Can no one just sac up and do the right thing? Ah...yes. Iono Music is the leader in melodic and atmospheric progressive trance and somehow they find artists who compose their style of music. Or it's a third Reich kinda discipline to keep them employees goosestepping in time. You know those Germans...zey love zee order. So what we have here is a collaboration between Zonka and Blue Grow...what the...are those people? Sounds like strains of weed. If it is weed sign me up for a bong or 20. Holy f*cking atmosphere, this is the definition of lush. Effects ripple and pop, as the title track seems to bubble and climb. There are nice changes of tempo and relevant samples that don't make me want to rip my pubes out. Made by aliens for sure. The next two tracks are remixes. Their version of Angel Eyes has a shiny coat of polish that your grandma wishes she got on her silver. The original track from the Carrots and Stick compilation was a laid back groover with great effects, but this is bigger and more full....bolder. It is more aggressive and it shimmers. If the original was the smooth caress of a lover, then this was pull her hair like you were mounting a flying beast in Avatar. Their take on Land of 2 Suns from the Beat Generation 2 compilation just seemed...what's the word. I know...louder. Didn't thrill me. Iono continues to hit home runs. Pretty good EP if you love melodic progressive. Beatport Mdk

Artist: Eleusyn Title: Atlantis EP Label: Joof Recordings or Joof V.2 whatever the f*ck they're doing over there Date: April, 2012 1. Atlantis 2. Solar Flares- E-mantra, Artifact303, & Reasonandu 3. Ganduri (Elusyn Remix) - Hypno Following the success of Carbon and Phantasm current king of the hill and titan of goa trance E-mantra (Emanuel Carpus) reunites with Reasonandu (Alexandru Dumitrescu) for their 3rd EP Atlantis. Less than a minute and half into the track Atlantis and that all too familiar sound which from this moment forth shall be named the E-mantra preset reaches the ear. As always it's hypnotic and will carry you to that mystical place in your mind. The brief breaks are like a thing alive with sensuous tendrils caressing as a lover would. Solar Flares adds another quality producer into the mix with this progressive goa rambler. Can a track be laid back and aggressive at the same time? This one is has bubbling effects and a searching 303 that carves a path like a hot knife through butter. If that was all there was I would say been there, done that. But the soft touches applied in the break that give rise to a new direction for the layers to flow are quite nice. With a name that sounds like an entree I would get at the local Indian joint (and then release not 30 minutes later) Ganduri takes us into the depths of the ocean in search of that lost city. Perhaps the most lush track on the EP, it has a Merr0w feel to me. Spiraling, ever twisting. Not a slight against Alexandru, this is the vintage E-mantra sound that I personally cannot get enough of. Melodic, soothing, and rich in descriptive layers. All the tracks are hypnotic and a worthy addition to your collection. "Oh yeah...right there....no, no...don't stop." Beatport Mdk

Artist: Escape Into Title: The Dream EP Label: Enlight Records Date: March, 2012 1. Stillness (Intro) 2. Faint Evolution 3. Ooze In My Eyes 4. Future Memories 5. Neuroleptic Tales It's getting harder and harder to find time to do reviews so when a request is made I do everything I can to provide one. This is the debut EP by Dan Flict and Werther Azevedo two gentlemen from the land of thongs and Carnivale. Looking at the cover you got a train track winding around a tree with multiple doors as Grimace and Amelia Earhart take a spin in a rail car that was made by that guy in my shop class. Yeah, you don't know him, but he gets visitors on the weekends. So the cover adequately represents the title, but what about the music? To me, this is what you get when you put Talpa, Tim Burton, and some crazy Finnish guys in a blender. It is so remarkably deep that there is no way you can digest this in one sitting. Case in point, he asked me to do this a month and a half ago. It takes the road less traveled so like the Griswolds it takes f*cking forever to get there. But sit back and enjoy this ride. There is an eerie quality (Talpa) that is present throughout and reminds me of A Nightmare Before Christmas. So many changes of direction it really invites you into the dream. Just when you think you know where it's going it takes a turn that is anything but cliche. This is to psytrance what Paul's Boutique was to rap in the eighties. RIP MCA. This isn't about power, but about the journey. A wonderful trip that was a joy to follow that I will liken to classical music. It has jazzy elements, an outer space feel at times, and just loads of character. Throw in the fact that it was free...well, could there be anything more awesome? Ha! Got you Suge, you bloated motherf*cker. Got you. Thought you could hide in Japan? So like...are we cool now? Link Mdk

Artist: Chynacid Title: Zen Dimensions EP Label: Acid Chemical Plant Records Date: April, 2012 1. Shuriken 2. Zen Dimensions Filipe, now you know I love your music. You know this. I've reviewed and purchased almost everything you have put out there. But I gotta ask you... 8 F*cking dollars? Really, $8?!? The current exchange rate for GBP to $ is 1.6 so while that is slowly tipping in America's favor, 8 f*cking dollars for two tracks? I can see this happening for three reasons. One, you are aiming to make this a collector's item by making it so expensive people can't justify paying so much for just two tracks. Two, you misplaced a decimal point. Or three, and more likely in my opinion, you just don't give a f*ck. Don't get me wrong, you've earned this with the quality of your music and the sheer amount you have given away in the past. But are people other than me willing to pay that steep a price for 2 tracks? The first Chynacid EP Tofu was brilliant and further reinforced how important Mr. Santos is to modern day goa trance. So do you get the ticket to goa heaven with this EP? I'm not gonna lie. It's pretty damn good. Layers of melody, twisted leads, and the groove to keep you dancing. So yeah, it's good. Worth 8 bucks good? I'll leave that up to you. ACP Records Mdk

Artist: Various Title: Three Drops To Evolution Label: Triple Drop Productions Date: July, 2011 01 - Zaigonen - The Connection (Intro) 02 - Soluble Sounds - Psillypsybinge (90 BPM) 03 - Brujo's Bowl - Everything's Special (80 BPM) 04 - Wolfen Technologies - Caveman (91 BPM) 05 - Brujo's Bowl - Najd's Squelch (80 BPM) "To be paid, to do what you love...ain't that the dream?" It sure is! Speaking of which...Mars, I know this might be a bad time and all, but you owe me $35,000 for all the reviews I put up here. Hello? Hello? What the f*ck is that? Is that...is that a vagina? You sick pricks... But seriously this is the virgin (pun intended) release of Triple Drop Productions (Go Wales!) and they treat us to 5 tracks of downtempo/Psydub/Drum n Bass music. The only act I am familiar with is Mr. Bowl, but I'm a sucker for some good dubby downtempo noise. The intro is short, but haunting and beautiful with a mournful Dickensian feel. It mixes sweet strings with bubbling percussion and sometimes harsh electronics. Psillypsybinge makes great use of panning, surrounding me with percussion and bass on all sides. It's like walking down a dark corridor with flashing fluorescents. Quirky, glitchy, and upbeat with drum n bass motion. It's very metallic, sounding as if my toolbox opened and all the nails and screws fell out and tumbled down stainless steel stairs. Everything's Special breaks out the rumbly bass and tribal drum set in a truly alien presentation. It's a dirty affair with some filthy low tones that creeps like a serial killer. Loved it. Caveman didn't thrill me. It was brighter, but I felt the bass was too intrusive and dominated the track. Not for me. Najd's Squelch went on way too long and for me just devolved into squirty noises and stutter step beats. Pass. This music can be extremely descriptive, but I think the key is if music that is that light on melodies and intensely focused on the percussive side of things maintain it's hold on the listener. After a while, clanks and basses can get boring but these guys found a way to involve me. The bpm's are low, but most of the tracks have that high speed that make you think it's way faster than it is. Very enjoyable listen for sure. Ektoplazm Mdk

Artist: Various Title: The First Contact Label: Phonix Records Date: November, 2011 1. The Black Dawn Is Coming 2. Gema 4 3. Delirium 4. Choke On It "I see your hobbies are drinking, smoking weed...all types of bullsh*t. Well congratulations...you just got the job." If I have my information right this is the first digital release of Phonix records. Anyone else find it funny that Phonix was spelled phoenetically? No one? Fine. The promo says that these tracks were selected by none other than Neo Genetic. None other? Who the f*ck is that? I know I don't go to parties, but I like to think that I have my finger on a lot of this music, so it's probably just hyperbole. But c'mon it's not like 2Pac came back from the dead to do a show... *puts finger in ear* What's that now...he did? On stage with Snoop? Was Suge there? Cause I umm...said some things that...may have been taken waaay out of context and...You know what, let's just let bygones be bygones. Anyway, let's get to the bullets... * first track sucks. * second one isn't bad. Helluva good sample. * third one is a throwback to the acid soaked days of twilight psytrance in spots. Some real Timecode awesomeness here, but the buildup felt like someone punched me in the stomach. * fourth one by Kode Six (still need to give their latest album a go) wasn't bad in places. But in places, it was bad. If you asked me if this was worth your hard earned video game money, I would say keep saving. Nothing on here is going to rewrite twilight psytrance. 2Pac Lives! Artist: Zinx Title: Unlcean EP Label: Terror Lab Industries Date: April, 2012 1. Rated R 2. Techno Slave (with Brainwash) 3. Audio Violator (with Iluchina) "You think I'm some kind of nutjob? What proof have you got?" Terror Lab Industries continues its assault on most of your senses yet again with this EP from Zinx. He is João Varela from Portugual and it ain't his first time with a shocking cover....or have we already forgotten Dead By Dawn? Look at this thing. Unclean, I get it like a vampire, but of course this chick is just running around in panties like she returned to a frat house to exact revenge for her date rape. Credit where credit is due, she's hot. If you know this label, then you know what type of music is inside. He gets by with a little help from his friends on a couple of tracks delivering violent samples and imagery with the requisite amount of acidic bloodsplatter that you would expect. For me it's not bad, but I feel he is straying towards that commercial territory that threatens to swallow a lot of artists. There are some build ups here, some stops and starts...but it's still pretty aggressive twilight darkness and metallic synths. I think my favorite was the last one that continued to evolve the whole way through. Worth it? Meh, probably. When dealing with this style I hold it up to what I consider the gold standard of twilight mayhem, the Midnight Storm series. Yeah, it ain't that. Beatport Mdk

Artist: Shehoor Title: Earache Generator EP Label: Terror Lab Industries Date: April, 2012 1. Cryptic Simulacra 2. Malefique 3. Terror Dominion Miss me? I haven't been listening to much music lately as I am working on becoming a better piano player. Since free time is a brief interlude that I may be lucky enough to get I have to fit in during kid naptimes. Ergo, something had to give. But these breaks from the music allow me to come back and listen with an eager appreciation. You can only play Lionel Richie's Easy 30 times before I start sweating like an alcoholic at a wine tasting. By the way, Easy isn't really that easy to play. You gotta have soul. And I gots dat. So here is another twilight artist (no idea who he is) brought to you by the people responsible for such beautiful fairy tales like: Damn, that's just sit by the fire with the grandparents music ain't it? That's just a few. So while they're skullf*cking Mother Goose's rotting corpse, here comes Shehoor with a brief 3 tracker. It's high tech intensity with a futuristic approach. Eerie pads are the backdrop for groovy fast paced bass lines and racing leads. The first track has some cool Matrix-esque cyber sounds in the breaks with plucky acid bursts. Not overwhelming, but entertaining for sure. Malefique is like a nightmarish plunge with lasers and a darkpsy feel to it. Clever effect work gives it some appeal and it gets me thinking of what life in the circuitry of a computer would be like. Sure would make travel easier. I don't think there is a middle finger big enough for the TSA. Wait, hold up.... Mother pus bucket is that real? This is the finger of the doc that just wants to check your prostate. The last track is the least appealing as it is just a straight forward droning track. Still like Meatball said, two out of three...something something.... Beatport Mdk

Artist: Bioscape Title: Nature's Geometry EP Label: Gliese 581C Date: April, 2012 01 - Sunrise Prayer (70 BPM) 02 - Dub Forest (110 BPM) 03 - Synergistic Movement (70 BPM) 04 - Spectral Dub (80 BPM) This is Andrew Dyche from the ATL where the playas play. It is also his debut. According to the always accurate promo: "His music celebrates nature and encourages us to take an intimate look at our surroundings." He must be talking about his vacations from Atlanta. Ever been there? Nice city if you can get through all the mother f*cking traffic. If you go, avoid the summer. Feels like a Turkish bath house it's so damn humid. Most ATLiens will tell you that there surroundings are indoors in the summer. More known for it's southern rap style (Outkast, Ludacris) I'm curious to see what a downtempo producer will bring. Let me tell you it is some mellow stuff. The first track is an intro that is soft and gentle like the breaking dawn and the creatures in the forest are waking up. There is reverberating electric piano and a muted kick. Very good opener. Dub Forest seems significantly slower, but that ain't what the bpm's are saying. This dubby tune is quite full with bunches of layers that take their sweet time. It's good, but I would've liked some extended periods of contrast to keep it interesting. More than 8 minutes at this slow pace is like crawling a marathon. Synergistic Movement has that contrast with several changes and it is shorter so not to tax the mind. With the final track it's more of the same hypnotic dubby sunshine. And basically that is what this EP is...smooth, mellow, and very relaxing. I liked the whole thing and look forward to more from this artist. Ektoplazm Mdk

Artist: Ancient Core Title: Ancient Seeds of Awareness EP Label: Astronautic Records Date: April, 2012 01 - Living On A Pale Blue Dot (feat. Agni) (102 BPM) 02 - Sacred Joint Venture (90 BPM) 03 - Forgive & Love (104 BPM) This guy's from Romania. I didn't even think they had electricity. I mean, I know they do, but I thought it was all hamster related. Me being a dick aside, this is this gentleman's debut and it's quite interesting. First lets immerse ourselves in the beauty that is the cover. It's fantastic and the work of Swaroop Guhathakurta. Must...fight...stereotype...grow the...f*ck up. Beautiful artwork. But you can search the intarwebz for that, how's the tunes? Living on a Pale Blue Dot is marvelous downtempo with plenty of twists and turns as well as a copious amount of layers to dig through. Eerie melodies and a hefty beat don't hurt either. And that's when he gets all crazy on you. Like endless samples that run through most of the track? I know! Me neither, but that's what you get with this Sacred Joint Venture. Meh, just as well the music itself really didn't impress me anyway. Forgive and Love gets all Buddhist on you. Chanting at the foot of the Himalayas with dubby bass and guitar strumming as melody riffs float by. With the same guitar strumming it's just sounds placed over top. Not impressed. Well, it seems he shot his load with the artwork and the first track. The other two don't offer much, but the first one was so good that I'm curious to see what he does down the road. Ektoplazm Mdk

Artist: Various Title: The LSD Connection Label: Yo Soy Records Date: December, 2011 01 - Extrinsic - Psychedelic Liberation 02 - Parana - High Dosage 03 - Godha - Beautiful Experience 04 - Innerself - Shifting Reality 05 - Erofex - Lions Gate 06 - Goalien - When The Cosmic Winds Collide 07 - Imba vs Nemesis - Overdosed Serbs 08 - Majestad Valkyria - Margarita (Outro) Finally. Instead of tap dancing around the issue, a label has grown a pair and decided to no longer ignore the 800 pound fungus in the room. Ladies and gentlemen...our music has a drug problem. Pull yourself together! We can get through this! The first thing we need to realize is that it's not your fault. We need to redouble our efforts and try to get the message to the young that drugs are dangerous and shouldn't be taken. Since kids today have a shorter attention span than your average internet porn visit, we need to find something they can relate to... *snaps fingers* Got it! Video games...kids love that sh*t. Ok, are we ready? Is my mic on? How's my hair? The effects of drugs have been presented in a fashion that makes it attractive to potential users all in the name of profit. "Hold up...so I can take drugs and be bigger and faster than before? Uh...by the way...your sister has nice tits." In a totally unrelated incident, the produce shelves of Kroger, Food Lion, and Wal-Mart were picked clean but curiously only mushrooms were taken. Hours later the police had the suspects in custody. Drugs are bad people. As you can see from the telling mugshot above they lead to crime. sexual assault and crooked mustaches flagrant douchebaggery poverty and unemployment most importantly though, they rob you of your potential...turning you into something less than what you can be. "F*ck you Yoshii...are you gonna pass that or what?" The situation is dire. It may already be too late. Reports have surfaced detailling addiction beginning as young as the age of 4. "Won't somebody please think of the children!?!?" So can a simple compilation of psytrance tunes perhaps change the mindset and steer our kids away from such deviant behavior? If not... May God have mercy on our souls. Psychedelic Liberation- "There is more to reality than meets a normal eye." Ladies and gentlemen. You know him...you love him...please welcome...the LSD sample. As I mentioned in the intro our music is full of drug samples like a Waffle House packed at 3am with drunk assholes, but I liked how they presented things here. Because it's not the same sentence repeated ad nauseum, but different bits as the music changes. It's actually...um, psychedelic. With a pumping beat, a few tribal chants, and slight goa leanings...you got yourself a nice little salad right here. Nah, f*ck that it kicked ass...this was a Triple Whopper with cheese. High Dosage- I just got it. Really I did. Parana...like that fish with teeth or the unfortunate movie of the same name. Whazzatnow? They made a sequel to that sh*tfest? Oh Ice Cube, where have you gone? Moving on...This had some pretty sparkling moments with a very powerful bass that wouldn't quit. A little too buildupy for me at times though. Oh Dough Boy. That gif is your soul putting neverending slugs into the sellout you've become. Beautiful Experience- "Each one of us is responsible for a ceremony to heal Mother Earth." Ummm...I just came for the shrimp, so...yeah. You have a real psychedelic track here. Changes in tempo, acidic leads, but I think Mr. Hoffman takes the cake with a long sample spoken over a sad string. Normally I would say momentum killer, but it wasn't. Added to its...psychedelia. It rambles on like a trip that doesn't want to leave. Hypnotic. Shifting Reality- "I don't want you listening to any angry music." "The Carpenters are Angry? I mean..." "Naive Dave. Close To You? We've Only Just Begun? Songs of madness." Obviously spoken before the time of F*ck Tha Police and Boyz In The Hood. Wow, I drop any more references to Cube there will be a puddle on the floor. Kristijan crafts a new school goa track and wields that lead like it's a light saber. Oh Christ, here come the fan boys. DAMN! Did you see him go in for the kill? Public school, I'm tellin' ya....you can't get that sh*t in private school. Back to the lead it flits all over the place, thickens up, and leaves a blood splatter all over the wall. I liked it...not too concerned with being a perfect melody, just unleashes mayhem. Lions Gate- I heard every animal but a f*cking lion. The title says Lion, where's my f*cking lion. Wait...maybe it was in there. I dunno, I'm kinda sleepy. But shut the front door he brings some eeriness that makes my ears perk up. Arpeggios tap out a straight forward melody and acid washes fly by with effects as if they were jerked on a string. Spooky man, like skeletal fingers reaching for you in the dark. Efrain Candia you say? Well you have my attention Efrain...if that is your real name. When Cosmic Winds Collide- Boris your album came out last year? Man it feels like 5. Loved it by the way, but you knew that. He makes it rain on you again with his brand of Nitzho melodies that come together like a tight french braid. There is no rest here, as it is in constant motion. Wanna know what was in my head while this song was on? French maids, erotic cookies, and a girl scout committing arson. It's a landmine in there, I'm tellin' you... Overdosed Serbs- F*cking hell, Imba you're only 21? I hate you. I'm old enough to be your fa...very cool uncle. So he get's with another Serb and this is what happens when you take too much...whatever it is you young kids take. This is an acidic ride that opens your mouth and stuffs it full of goa madness. Reminded me of some old Kuro type insanity with some cool percussive weirdness. But the star here is that lead. And did you know that according to Discogs there are 56 different projects named Nemesis? Maybe you want to stand out from the crowd more. Here you can use this one...purplemonkeydishwasher. Just throwing it out there. BTW, in a crazy coincidence my wife has a cousin who is an awesome rapper named...wait for it...Boom. Emcee Nemesis. Margarita- The short midtempo outro, a lost art form. This was the only track that sounded like it couldn't handle the bass. Could be my sh*tty headphones though. Maybe I should get a pair of Dr Dre's Beats headphones. Yeah...I'd be real cool then. This has chanting, birds, didjeridoo, and big bass. A side project of Mr. Dark Fox, I don't know what to make of it. Love the bass and the melody at the end but it was too short for me to really form an opinion one way or the other. Man that was good. Really good. First of all it sounds great, so hats off to Mr. Dark Fox for the mastering. It's uber psychedelic with great samples and not one track sounds the same. Evolving and enveloping. This sh*t was free? I would've paid for it. I'ts almost one a.m. and I'm starting (starting?) to lose it. Gotta get up and be in a "driver improvement class" tomorrow morning because John Q. Law says I ran a stop sign. How the f*ck do you do that. It's a huge red octagon. Did he think I thought it was an apple? Meh...I'll tell you about it later. Ektoplazm Mdk

Artist: Space Elves Title: Terrestrial Planet Finder Label: Dimensional Records Date: April, 2012 1. Fead Huck 2. Goa Trance Mission 3. Opening New Dimensions 4. Terrestrial Planet Finder 5. Tokyo Old School 6. Trance India Express (rmx) 7. Satellite - Space Elves and Somnesia 8. Vega (Space Elves rmx) - Jikooha Maradonna punched a ball into a goal in front of a billion people and he can't figure how you f*cked this up. So...lemme see if I got this. The, ahem..."secret" service, an elite force of agents responsible for the safety of the leader of the free world who also that shut down areas quicker than cops do a Kentucky meth lab couldn't keep their hookers in check. In Cartagena Colombia. The nation that coca built. All because one agent didn't want to pay 50 bucks to keep Rosie Perez quiet after she spent the night. I cannot say with certainty if it was actually Rosie, but I haven't seen her since White Men Can't Jump so...it's probably her. But, $50...really? That's like...I dunno $6 an hour. Girlie love you long time and you don't want to even cough up minimum wage? That's just asking for a Columbian necktie. Trayvon got shot because he was black and wearing a hoodie, what do you think stiffing her pimp/mayor of Cartegena is gonna get you? Look, I'm not saying f*ck some hookers, but damnit man your the secret service. Keep your pimp hand strong and I dunno...how about keeping a secret. My military and espionage training has consisted of watching a lot of movies and I can see the blackmail possibilities from here. The president was there but nobody knows what the f*ck he went for because this story overshadowed his visit. I haven't seen embarrassment this thick since that Rush Limbaugh video went viral. Ugh. There's an image you can't unsee. The stupidity is mind boggling sometimes. This is when you shut off the world and immerse yourself in some good music. Thankfully Imba sent me a copy of his latest work. Space Elves is an old school Goa trance project founded by our very own Imba in 2009 that consist of Imba, Arronax, CoaGoa, and SETI Project. The buzz is that it left the sunshine full-on goa trance melody stacks and parallel parked in old school town. Love most of the cover as the contrast between the satellite and the two planets is quite striking, but the nebula takes a little away from that. Take it with a grain of salt...my son tells me to color inside the lines. Fead Huck- "As I lay there...I couldn't leave. The room began to spin. I could step out of my body." Just say head f*ck, we're all adults here. Well, except Antares. Someone check his ID please?!? All we need is another angry parent killing field trips for the rest of us. The bubbling 303 is a constant sound as we are transported back to the mid 90's. It's goa in a dream state as layers of sound coalesce over the steady pumping rhythm. Kinda similar to a heart beat. Liked it. Goa Trance Mission- It definitely has that old school vibe to it, but it got kind of boring. The beginning and the break had me thinking aliens trying yo communicate. Something was missing though... Yes! Yes, it needs more awesome! Opening New Dimensions- "Do you understand how big a dimension really is? There are many universes with stars and planets. These are linked with trans-dimensional gates. Can you see the possibilites that exist?" Old school bounce for sure. Let's see how many times I can write those words in this review. They just let the 303 rip and build around it creating a nice spacey vibe. The distorted sample awakens supernatural evil to me, a la Event Horizon. Something juicy about this one even though it's not bursting with melody or power. Terrestrial Planet Finder- "In the hunt for alien life, scientists are focussing their efforts in finding small rocky planets like Earth. But finding another Earth is like searching for a needle in a million haystacks." More of the same type of drifting, outer space exploration atmosphere where leads twist and turn in a seemingly endless journey. Before you know it, 7 minutes have gone by and you're trying to figure out what you were doing. Tokyo Old School- " *some Japanese talk* Probably discussing anime, samurai, some f*cking wacko game show or a pasty chick with long dark hair that has her head tilted to the side. "Excuse me sir, you dropped this." "Oh thank you so much, I was looking for my racist card!" "Actually, there's about 20 or 30 of them, trailing behind you... "Ok, ok go f*ck yourself." Now this has some growl to it as they filter the hell out of that lead. First one that kicks the door in with attitude. It's sticky...like wacky wall walker sticky. I've been working on my own prototype of the wacky wall walker... Yeah, I tend to run through a lot of pre-teens so you know...still a work in progress. Trance India Express (Remix)- Holy crap 10 minutes...better unzip. We all know Trance Africa Express by Sheyba, and I even have a track of the same name remixed by the Elves and Somnesia, (Ass kicking track btw) but this is India. This is caught in a rainstorm dripping with old school sound. Ethnic and full of mystery. The unfurling acidic melodies that worm their way into your soul as well as the quirky bits make this a treat. Nah, a treat doesn't do it justice. Remember playing a video game and finally beating the boss gaining entry into the next level? Times that by 10. Superb. Knew I should've gotten X-box. They have all the cool games. Satellite- Almost 12 minutes?!? Jesus, why did I put pants on in the first place? Oh that's right, my son's first day of pre-school and I don't want to be, you know...that helicopter parent with no pants on. As good as the last track was, this tops it. Layers of swirling deliciousness throw your ass in a time machine when music was rooted in storytelling and evolving magic. This one has it all 303's, acid...it just keeps going. Remarkable. Vega (Space Elves Remix)- I know how much Imba likey Jikooha's work and he and his friends just flattered the hell out of him. This is a track from Jikooha's ablum Revolution Spaceship and I had to go back and listen to it so that I could make a fair comparison. The remix is a chunky, powerful compliment to the original. Fast and furious as they twist up the metallic sound, raising it up and letting it tumble. Much more digestible IMO. And to another point, that's what a remix should be. Flashes of the original, but owning it and making it your own with new touches. Yeah Scorb, I'm looking at you. Like an elephant baby, I don't forget. I know there are people out there that are sick of the way goa trance sounds these days. They clamor and crave for the sound that they remember. Well, welcome to 1996 people! This one won't knock you over with it's power or stack melodies like leggos but it will carry you away. It is a terrific journey that has the old school stamp all over it with running bass lines and one note melodies that flow and unwind. It's not oppressive in the least, but it does have a presence that gets better each time I listen to it. It bubbles and churns and sounds more like the genre I missed out on back in the mid to late 90's. The more varied styles that arrive in goa trance the better and I think if you love the old school sound, this is rocketing in the right direction. Good job gentlemen. Just got an android phone. Using the free app called Skifta which should recognize the home pc where all the tunes are stored. It's running XP. Apparently I have to turn off network discovery, but I cannot figure out how to do that in XP. Little help? Thanks everyone, Mdk

Artist: Various Title: Entanglement Label: None Date: April, 2011 01 - Mr. Bill vs Circuit Bent vs Tom Cosm - Incompusmentus 02 - Mr. Bill vs Circuit Bent - Salt Water 03 - Mr. Bill vs Circuit Bent vs Tom Cosm vs Sun In Aquarius - Tangle 04 - Mr. Bill vs Circuit Bent vs Tom Cosm - Coke & Caviar Sometimes I'm in the mood for something different. And that's the cool thing about our little corner of music, plenty of styles to explore. Take this for instance. It's a collaboration between Australian and New Zealand producers that deliver....what? F*ck I still don't know how to label this. I've heard some of Mr. Bill's noise and became an instant fan. Well let's go through the tracks. Incompusmentus- Big beat, dubstep, drum n bass, glitch...man this one has it all. So much so that you have to change your dancing style several times during the track. I mean, you can't dance to dubstep when he switches to drum n bass...you'll look like an idiot. Wobbly basses and nasty techo noises with beats that push the funky limits had me rockin' out. Yep...that is my jam. Salt Water- More slow saunter with techno beats and sounds that sound like they're spinning manhole covers like nickels. Slow that is until they hit hyperspace and this thing picks up speed. What's cool is that is vassilates with slow, fresh sounding breaks. Not enough? Then they come at you with a Riddler-esque type of lounge progressive that is cooler than the guys in Ocean's Eleven think they are. Bravo gentlemen. Tangle- This jazzy, glitchy mash-up is so smooth that I'm thinking this will surely get me into a Diddy linen party. Martini funky and nod your head awesome. Even when it slows to a crawl with a mechanical creaking, it's so interesting that I'm glued to it. It'll have 'em dancing on the ceiling (purposeful Lionel Richie reference). "For the last time, if you don't have a sack of loot get the f*ck off my chimney ya fairies!!" Coke & Caviar- Cooler than a Tron light cycle and nastier than old people body fluids this thing has an alien feel to it. While at the same time making me want a drink in the fading afternoon on the beach. I think the moral here is that experimentation can be awesome and more people should do it. 4/4 gets staler than week old bread, and trust me I know. My kid won't eat it. These guys combine lots of styles in each track to take you on a journey that has plenty of twists and turns guaranteed not to bore you. It's good time music that you can't help but appreciate. Hell the tracks are on the hard drive, but I have to leave the genre section blank because I have no clue how to label it. Recomennded. What's that? It's free? Get the f*ck outta here... Cd's are going the way of the cassette tape. It has to. Most people have mp3 players, or phones that play music, or car stereos that have that capability. Why carry around something else? Besides that, record companies can now charge you for a digital download without having to pay the cost of the physical product. Win for everyone. Mdk

Artist: Various Title: The Omega Point Label: Neogoa Date: April, 2012 1. PHARAOM - Rainbow Project 2. SIAM - Colorful Expansion 3. NOVA FRACTAL - Connect 4. TRINODIA - Deceive My Eyes 5. INNERSELF - Modules 6. AGNETON - Wizards From The Future (Afterlife Remix) 7. ARRONAX - The Dark Flow 8. SOMNESIA - Eternal Life 9. PSYRIUS - Draconid (Imba's Be My Light Remix) After reviewing the absolutely awful Dynamic album (yeah I know it's my own fault. Blind people told me to get the hell out of the way.) I attempted to throw myself down the deepest hole I could imagine where escape was all but impossible. So you can imagine my surprise when God called to me from the internet parting the sea of bits and bytes...Ok, it was actually Richpa who said, f*ck it, here are some wave files, have fun! Seeing a release from Neogoa is like the LOTR scene where the Balrog falls into the chasm and just when you think Gandalf made it out....BAM! He plummets into some new goa freshness. But instead of fighting for my life against an evil minion from the underworld I get to immerse myself in twisted goa melodies that this netlabel was known for. The tracklist is more impressive than the ability of a fat man and 12 reindeer to deliver all the presents in one evening. "Sorry Detroit, looks like we'll be spending a little more time in Mexico this year!" So while label head Ivan Richpa has devoted the lion's share of his time to Graviton Records he still wanted to keep Neogoa alive. Mastered by the guy who seems to master everything, Igor Ceranic (aka Deimos) is on sound quality while Ivan did the artwork. Pleasing to the eye, no? One thing you'll notice by looking at the liner notes is the varied countries that are represented here. It's like a f*cking Benneton ad. More the merrier I say. What you get are 9 varied tracks that should do the trick. Frenchman Oswald Pfeiffer opens with a great track with an even greater intro sample. Unified theory and teleportation are the keywords but it's the numerous evolving and twisting melodies that unfurl like a flag in a hurricane that garner the most attention. I've heard a couple of tracks by John Pitsakis before, but I think this is the first one he's actually released. Good for him, he's talented. It's more of a progressive sounding goa track that takes a while to get on its giddy up, but once it gets going it's a nice bit of sunshine. Nova Fractal is Renato Brnic from Croatia who delivers one of the stronger efforts here complete with breakbeat (I love you...squeal!) and moody atmosphere. Reminds me of Filtertraces. Not a stormer, but a track that you can melt into. Has their been a faster rising star than this guy? This Daniel Eldstrom from Sweden and I remember him working with Miraculix in his psytrance days, but he has really come into his own in the goa medium. This is the track for me, as it absolutely slays. Spiritual, grandiose, and just manhandles anything within reach. What a great sample also. "Oh yeah, you like that? You want some more? Hold up...what is that? Is that...is that a Ho-Ho? Gimme dat f*ckin' ho-ho! Mines b*tch! Uh! Uh! Like Lionel Richie we can do this all night long!" Kristian Petkovski from Macedonia unfortunately has to follow that so it's not all his fault. He is also right before the 2nd best track on the comp so perhaps he is just a victim of poor placement. It's not bad, but when you are the meat of the sandwich you better be more than spam. Elias comes in at a close second to Trinodia here as he does what he usually does. Crazy melody heavy goa with a kiss of nitzho. The lead is a scorcher so don't forget the sunscreen. "Nah it's ok baby, you can pet me...I'm like a teddy bear. Yeah...that's it." Mirza Aljic from Bosnia Hersa...Herca...Bosnia is set to release his debut album on Graviton and I cannot wait. Now he brings an abrasive lead over the top while the surrounding gurgling flows without restraint. You might like it. You might not. Public Enemy had a sound that was like this and that camp was divided as well. I'm not saying he is as legendary as PE. Not yet. But he's got intense melodies that keep changing sounds, always seem to be building to the knockout blow. Good God he is hideous. You do realize he was part of one of the most revolutionary rap groups right? Know how hard it is to find evidence of that little Gremlin dancing around? Christophe Grossel from France is the third best track for me here, but loses out only by a fraction. Dancing melodies with a great break that really pull you in. It really is a deep tour de force that is absolutely hypnotic and powerful. Superb. Knock knock motherf*cker, there's a new sherrif in town. The liner notes say this is Psynews own Nikola Petrovic from Serbia to close things out with a downtempo joint, but with the racing scales I could swear it's keyboard cat. Waitaminute...maybe Nikola is keyboard cat. You clever kitty, suck them in with cuteness and then drop your goa bombs on em all! Truthfully I don't have any proof that he is keyboard cat, but I also don't have anything disproving it. Either way its mystical, ethinc sounding slowness warms the skin. And there you have it, goa awesomeness served up the Neogoa way. Quality tunes with an unbeatable price tag. Several styles are represented so there should be something here for everyone. Unless you're into rap goa, and I haven't heard any of that yet. I don't think Flav is working...he would do it. That motherf*cker would do anything for a few scheckels. Hey if we can get a Croat and a Serb together on one compilation perhaps there is hope for this little mudball yet. Get your goa on! Ektoplazm Mdk

Artist: Ekoplex Title: Discovering The Ancient Label: Omnitropic Date: January, 2012 01 - Turtle Island (120 BPM) 02 - Hip Shiva Wigga (100 BPM) 03 - Follow The Music (100 BPM) 04 - Shamanic Drumz (110 BPM) 05 - Before The Sun (110 BPM) 06 - Aya (110 BPM) 07 - Shapeshifter (112-119 BPM) 08 - Crossroads (114 BPM) 09 - End Of The Cycle, Beginning Of... (110 BPM) Where the f*ck did this come from? It's Ray Vincent from Canada with his third album but instead of full-on or morning trance he vaults into the downtempo arena. I never payed much attention to his releases because I've heard so much full-on that I am sick to death of it. But that changes now. Just read the comments on his album releases at Ekto. Absolutely glowing with people falling all over themselves to praise this project. So without experiencing any of his previous work I dove head first into this. Reasons why this is different...well, first off it's free. Second, it is a digital release with liner notes. Well, a link to liner notes. Nice touch as he gives you waaaaay more information than you are used to receiving in this genre of music. On every track. He talks about his tuning method, his trip to Nepal, and the samples as well as live instruments he used. So right off the bat that was greatly appreciated. Just reading how he feels about tracks and things in general makes me feel about as deep as a puddle compared to his ocean. The music itself is marvelously detailed and frothing over with depth. Let's just get it out into the open, it's not a true downtempo album, but psychill or deep trance with lengthy storytelling parts. Turtle Island has to be one of the most atmospheric and involving tracks I have heard in quite some time. Incredibly massive, I just kept hitting the repeat button. Most of the other tracks were in that same intricate style with real world instruments and mid tempo rhythms. Sometimes I felt like I was at a Phish concert where I didn't know where one track ended and another began. That's called good flow. The last track gallops along at over 20 minutes and is so full and varied that it has to be heard to be believed. Did I feel the transition to the sitar at the 13 minute mark could've been smoother as it felt like two different tracks? Sure, but minor quip aside it's still melodic and groovy as hell. Congratulations Mr. Vincent you have accumulated another fan. I cannot recommend this highly enough with its varied storytelling and beautiful musicianship. It's got a little bit of everything from progressive to tribal and of course downtempo with plenty of real instruments. All done with layer upon layer of melody. This is an example of the sum being greater than its parts. Take the time and go for a walk or a hike, but get outside and enjoy this. The fact that this is free leaves no excuses not to hear this. It's like a guy (me) that has only had a PC, but wandered into an Apple store and the ghost of Steve Jobs came up to me and said, "No, you know what? F*ck it, just take this iPad." "Can I get an iPad 2?" "I said iPad. Now beat it." You know, I normally reserve this happy full feeling for a great dinner out, but...you've earned it. Chicka chicka chick... Ektoplazm Mdk

Artist: Maharishi Title: Sense of a Feather Label: Ouim.net & Space Baby Records Date: December, 2011 01 - Bhuvana (Intro) (105 BPM) 02 - Shadowland (feat. Extatic) (80 BPM) 03 - Liquid Trip (105 BPM) 04 - Satori (Punarjanma) (115 BPM) 05 - Maharani Deva (90 BPM) 06 - Angelic Tears (96 BPM) 07 - Call Of The Ancients (95 BPM) 08 - Satori II (Gourishankar) (110 BPM) 09 - Balance On The Edge (The Eagle Feather) (98 BPM) 10 - Satori III (Anapurna - Nirvana) (96 BPM) I don't think this is the guy. I mean it could be, but he seems more the type to be confused by the intricacies of a push button phone than mastering his pirated copy of Cubase. Remember the boy maharishi in Indiana Jones Temple of Doom? Don't think it was him either. Digging into this rusty filing cabinet that is my brain (give me a break, maid doesn't come till Tuesday...yeah you'll wanna not step in that) I can recall that littly guy was a mean SOB who came to a gruesome end. So...ghosts have trouble with software. Believe me I know, every spook from the Ghost Whisperer has been dropping demos on my desk. Do I look like Mars or Anoebis? No deal! Well, unless I can get a crack at 1990's JLH. Sure her football shaped pimento olive head couldn't seem to stay upright, but miracles were worked with that push up bra. Oooof! You know what? Scratch that. Any chick that has already purchased her own engagement ring is way more maintenence than I want to take on. Get with her and all of a sudden after sex it's 72 questions about what I'm thinking and why I can't understand her anger that I didn't remember our 2 and a half week anniversary. Newsflash honey, I was blinded by your sweater puppies and now if it's not too much to ask I'd like for you to turn into a pizza. Those five minutes of energy ain't gonna regenerate itself. What were we talking about? Oh, excuse me I do sometimes tend to ramble. This is Borislav Lazarov who was kind enough to give us this album for free. The tracks originate from 2005-2011, kinda like a compilation of his work. Bhuvana (Intro)- Birds, crickets, sloshing water...I feel like I'm in a psychiatrist's office and he's gonna ask me about my mother. Then the bass line rolls in and at first it doesn't seem to fit. After the beat kicks in with some soft melodies I'm thinking maybe this forest isn't all Disney, but maybe a little Sleepy Hollow. Not the gay one, the Johnny Depp and Christina Ricci "do you think me wicked" one. Shadowland- Webster knows the score! It's breakbeat goodness at a slow gangsta pace that lulls you right into your hypnotic cocoon. That ethnic guitar fits perfectly into the mix. Liquid Trip- Progressive leanings with a very long pad that pitches up and down. Nothing really happens and I think that's what drones you into a trip, but it's like when I would get high with my friends. Is everyone as f*cked up as me? This is how I'm supposed to feel...right? Why are you staring at me? "Dude, you are really f*cked up." Satori (Punarjanma)- Wailing sounds and skittering effects make it seem like you're walking down a dimly light corridor. It's got some percussion that's not too heavy, but full of motion. Very dreamlike with rapid fire guitar notes so I'm liking it, but I think it went on too long. 11 minutes. I coulda banged JLH twice in that amount of time. Maharani Deva- We are treated to more dark pads and a space vibe. Plodding along with peculiar percussion it's another track that lends itself to dreaming. Eerie for sure with the pianos playing against the liquid bass. Nice. Angelic Tears- See this is where he shines for me. A breakbeat with eerie melodies that wouldn't be out of place on a hip-hop album. It's dark and menacing and makes me want to do bad things to good people. Well, not me. But this guy... Call of the Ancients- That screechy lead took a filter bath at two and a half minutes and I...just...love it! You can't have a call to the ancients without a, you know...call. And there is one. I see a woman twirling (naked of course) in the center of the tribe like the film was sped up. Lightning quick synth riffs have me looking skyward and this is a race to the end. Not my favorite, but it definitely involves you. Satori II (Gourishankar)- Probably the most layered track here, it is full of dark melodies and futuristic effects. He uses that machine gun style again as the breakbeat bounces along. Very good track. Balance On the Edge (Eagle Feather)- Everything comes together on this one. Mid tempo rhythms and frantic synth races join a well placed sample to give it a spiritual feel. Also well layered thickening things up. Satori III (Anapurna - Nirvana)- With the final track at over 10 minutes, it could go either way. The beginning is a soft intro for about a minute or so, and then it gets hit with the funk stick for a dirty breakbeat. More layers and more melancholy, with piano slams like Depeche Mode. Super. The beat was so strong and the synths so involving I didn't even mind the long Indian sample. Very airy and floaty. I hope to hear more from this individual. He had some great breakbeats and synth work as his music leans towards the dark side. The fact that it's free is just icing on the cake. Ektoplazm Mdk

Artist: Jens Buchert Title: Interstellar Label: Plusquam Records Date: November, 2011 1. Silkstream 2. The Vortex 3. Venus Nights 4. Helios 5. Spaceglider 6. Causality 7. Echospheres 8. Fluffy Time 9. Never Ending 10. Phoenix Sleeping 11. Swift 12. Interstellar 13. Sleepwalker 14. Parabolic 15. Amour Noblesse 16. Endless Dark I had to check this out just because the cover. I had never heard of Jens Buchert even though he has like...12 albums or something. The cover has a robot and I like robots. Hollywood has long waged a smear campaign against these mechanical creatures painting them as evil beings. And let's be honest...we're not quite at the technological level that movies would have us believe. We must act quickly before the Terminator gives us all diabetes and high blood pressure. like middle aged Japanese aren't already stereotyped for their wooden personalities. Which one's the robot? That is some creepy sh*t. I can see this guy bringing a chick home (no I can't) and in his mind thinking she would be enamored of his brilliance by dropping her fear soaked panties in submission. Sick f*ck. This is what all the nerds are worried about? So the defense against a highly sophisticated multi-million dollar defense project is to...run upstairs? Silkstream- Warm machinery hums as I stand on the observation deck and view a starship exiting the docking bay. It is the human race's last hope as the search for water takes a bold new step. Rich floating pads and futuristic effects make this a great piece of space ambient. The Vortex- That's a pretty big beat you've got there young man. I'ts what I would be pumping in my land speeder if I rolled through the cantina neighborhood. "This isn't the beat you're looking for." There is a spacey feel that is balanced with some nice flute. Wailing pads give it a melancholic feel. Superb! Venus Nights- I like the strings, but the breakbeat puts it over the top. Good stuff. Helios- Can't get over the warmth of these tracks. Is that Na'avi? Either that or Portuguese. With unraveling electronics and funky drummings this is a nice treat. It's chill and multi-layered. Spaceglider- "The reward of faith is to see what you believe. While there is life, there is hope. While we breathe, we shall defend. The lord is my light." Yeah, that's great and all, but I could really get into the music if you would shut the f*ck up. And that's what ruins it for me. Musically this is so appealing, but that sample interrupts my dream like Stacy did when that kid was holed up in the bathroom trying to rub one out to her mom. Holy sh*t Causality- Loungey raise your martini glasses where everything in the room is white and chrome. Electric piano chords and warm pads are what's on tap. Cooler than a Diddy linen party I didn't kill Big. No, really I didn't. Echospheres- Slow, jazzy, gangsta strutting. Although it does sound like a lovemaking scene in a bad movie with that distant horn blaring. Are you guys old enough to remember staying up late at grandpa's house because he had cable complete with the soft blurry focus that Skinimax is notorious for? No? Just me then? Never got to see anything good anyway. Just enough to get you excited and start looking at your cousin that is only a cousin by marriage. Let me make that perfectly clear. Not blood related. I would imagine that's how it would go. Fluffy Time- He does this a lot using far off sounds that promote introspection. Also gives the track some largesse. The break is smooth and allows a synth to peek in. Bright and sunny. Never Ending- More space lounge that seems to sample the Bee Gees. And that's cool, I liked the Bee Gees. The female vocal drips of cool with a vocoder effect. Wait...she's an android? I, uh...I knew that. *quickly puts flowers and box of chocolates in trash* Phoenix Sleeping- This is more space ambient with grainy communication samples of the moon landing. Melodic and beautiful. Swift- Sparkling synths, warm pads, and a glitchy rhythm set let you lean back in your Dorito crumb infested La-Z-Boy and immerse yourself in the layers. Cool acoustic guitar riffs give it a jazzy feel. Tasty! Interstellar- Having fun with a speak and spell. It's groovy and futuristic if you ignore the African chant, but somehow he makes it fit. Hey if we're 1000 years in the future ya think Africa is just gonna disappear? Don't think so. Why you gotta hate on the Dark Continent? Racist. Sleepwalker- With all the dubby lounge going on you should have your PhD in smooth by now. So beautifully textured it makes me feel like I'm floating in a bubble at normal speed whilst all my surroundings are in slow motion. Parabolic- Slow like I'm doing a moon walk No, not that one. It crawls along with pads and assorted twinklings. Relaxing to say the least. Amour Noblesse- I'm running out of adjectives to describe how good this music is. 16 tracks will do that to you. This dubby breakbeat tune has me dreaming of a beach vacation. Endless Dark- The ambient outro brings the space back into the equation. Runnng lights help me guide the ship back into the docking bay. The grim faces of the remaining crew tell you all you need to know. Really enjoyed this. He is very good with breakbeats and layered synths. I definitely recommend it for those that enjoy downtempo with a loungey space themed flair. There are 16 tracks so they are the perfect length to digest. Beatspace Psyshop Goastore Mdk

Artist: Doruk Title: Astral Colours Label: Ezel-Ebed Records Date: December, 2011 1. Alien In My Room (intro) 2. UFO 3. Astral Colours 4. Space Journey 5. Core Of The Universe 6. No Gravity 7. Astrophysics 8. Eyes Of The Moon 9. You Are Not Perfect Always on board for new goa trance I came across this a bit ago. It's a digital download and oddly enough the only place I could find it was on Beatspace. These are tracks made by Doruk in the years 2005-2008 packaged into a nice space themed album. Alien In My Room (Intro)- We begin with a brief intro that sounds like aliens are doing a sweep of this guys room with some superior sensor technology. Ignoring the semen stained sheets and the leftover hamburger helper left in the corner they come to realize they might not need back up. UFO- "What is that...smell?" 8. 8 times that sample was used. And that's just the whole sample. I'm not counting the times where he just said "what" or "smell". 8 times. I like masturbating, but I don't think I could squeeze out that many knuckle children during one track. Ridiculous. Part flowing goa-lite and part epic trance which was completely overshadowed by the overuse of the above sample. Astral Colours- It seems to have all the ingredients that would make a good goa track, but...it's missing power. Force and anger. That extra kick in the nuts that blows your wig back. If Portamento and Artifact303 are heavy metal than this is Air Supply. Not that that's bad. I can see this being played in an elevator. If it was, it would be the coolest elevator of all time. Space Journey- "Did you ever think what it takes to live as long as I have?" I liked this better. Darker and more twisted with some good layering. Pumping and flowing with a great sample and outer space leads. Very Astral Projection. Back when they made music...and not just promises. Core of the Universe- More ripping space leads that leave an acidic taste in my mouth. It is a track that hypnotizes and constantly twists and turns. Solid No Gravity- With an aggressive bass line he takes no prisoners. Couple that with a nice, searing 303 and you've got all the makings. It's pushing your spacecraft in tight 360 degree revolutions to avoid enemy fire while the stars whizz past. At each brief break it reorganizes and continues it's assault. Astrophysics- Astrophysics? That was me on the first day of class. Not proud of that moment... But he obviously gets it. If there was one track that could be called an Astral Projection clone, it would be this one. And that is not meant as an insult. Analog space leads, thumping kick, dark atmosphere...beautiful. Eyes of the Moon- I'm thinking that this is unfinished due to the short track length. It's more floating and trancey, but no less entertaining. Surely there is more of a story to tell here? You Are Not Perfect- One you get a pass on, but two short...blurbs? That's just a tease. Punishment will follow accordingly. That wasn't me! I didn't do that! I DID NOT DO THAT!!! *drops riding crop and quickly backs out of basement* First the bad. With the intro and the two short tracks at the end you get more of a 6 track EP. Which is why I suppose it is a digital download only. But if that's the case, why offer them at all. Spend the extra time and finish those two to make a proper album. Now for the good. This was great work. Really, it was. I wasn't so sure after the first third, but he saved the knockout blow for the rest of the album. Dark, atmospheric, melodic. The comparisons to Astral canot be helped. I mean, sh*t it's in the title. What more could you want? Thanks to Ezel for intoducing this artist. I know these tracks are old, but here's to hoping that he is working on some new material. Artist: Chronos Title: Space Sweets & Logical Beats EP Label: Soundmute Recordings Date: December, 2011 1. Free Falling 2. Space Cake Nikita Klimenko is back with a short 2 track EP. Those of you well versed in the downtempo arena are no doubt already familiar with the work of this project. I thought it was just Nick, but Discogs tells me that he now has a partner. Of course whoever entered this EP gave credit to three guys that sound like they head up a Mexican law firm. Steps to the Great Knowledge from 2007 was quite good and their collaboration with C.J. Catalizer on Quid Est Veritas was even better. Their new album Ispirational Power is out now so it's on my list. What? He just released a two part album this year? Prolific somebody isn't he? One thing I noticed is that the cover is the same as Inspirational Power, just a different color. So I guess these are two that didn't make the cut. If they were on the album, I would've felt pretty stupid paying for tracks that are on an album I plan to buy anyway. Free Falling- Is a high speed outer space track with synth arpeggios flying over fast percussive tappings. When the kick arrives things seem to slow down as we land in a green lush forest that is wet with dew. Melodic and relaxing even with the rapid tempo. Space Cake- When you distort a vocal sample in that manner, you cannot help but feel that we are in a futuristic cyber world. Love it. A world where new technology meets old world spiritualism. Effects all find their place behind the melody lines and fit together seamlessly as the dubby bass pounds away. There's a lot to listen to in a Shpongle type of way. Enjoyable, but almost all of his music is. Layers and melody with oodles of atmosphere. Really can't wait to listen to more tunes by him. Beatport Mdk

Artist: Braincell Title: Psychedelicious EP Label: Free Spirit Records Date: February, 2012 1. Bounding Eneries 2. Multitasking 3. Psychedelics Ralph Knobloch from Switzerland has made quite a name for himself with his driving and psychedelic brand of psytrance. His 3 previous releases on Glowing Flame Records were fantastic and I can't help but notice that his last effort (which wasn't that impressive) was released on this same label. I don't know if GF went under or not and if it did, that's a cryin' shame cause they released top notch stuff. But label or no, it comes down to the artist's imagination and creativity that is judged. So here he is with a brief 3 track EP. Was his last effort a blip on the radar or has he hit a slump? I think he is well on his way. The problem I had with Intelligent Being was it's lack of melody. Sure the groove was there, but without something to grab hold of, 8 minutes can seem like an eternity. He was always good at layering sounds and that hasn't changed. These tracks boast some pretty beefy power and sound much thicker with the standout for me being Multitasking. Ah yes, that one is a nod back to his Transformation of Reality days. Just seemed to have a chip on it's shoulder. Psychedelics was a great evolving track that had me thinking he spent a few days in goa demonstrated by the twisting leads. Welcome back. Beatport Mdk

Artist: Bell Size Park Title: Escape From Planet X EP Label: Dimensional Records Date: December, 2011 1. Escape From Planet X 2. Reptillianz 3. Lost In Time Belgian indy label Dimensional Records is nipple deep in goa trance with re-releases of several discs as well as a couple of compilations of their own. So along comes this name from the past with a short 3 track EP with tracks from his upcoming album. I don't really know much about Shlomy and his music, but in their short lifespan, this label has yet to produce a turd. So I thought I would check it out. The first track has a swirling lead that gets the heavy filtered treatment creating an image of a dragon kite dancing amidst a blue sky. Reptillianz is an evolving twisting meander complete with breakbeat and goa flavor. The track that stands out to me is Lost In Time. It's a downtempo piece with a high bpm. Know what I'm talking about? Surprisingly it grew on me with it's big pads and raindrop synths. It was interesting and I enjoyed listening to it, but it didn't set the house on fire. IF I had to give it a number...3.75/5 Beatport Mdk
