My contribution to this topic: Shiwa 2000 - Lonely Man that said, reply to OG poster: No way is BPC - Cyclothymic the saddest trance song! I've always pictured that as just a powerful storm of energy. It's vibrant and alive. It crashes through the chaos of a tsunami and of the hurricanes. I agree that it is powerful and dynamic, but much like Process and Tristan's - Dealing with Demons, I don't find that energy to be sad. It's going through something, it might be troubling, but it isn't melancholic or sad.

Why psytrance doesnt attract a bigger audience?

I really love goa. Like, a lot, a lot. But that statement is just really silly -
I have two Nu Grebo pop albums on Bandcamp under my Fried Kale moniker The Somnambulating Schematic of the Obstreperous https://friedkale.bandcamp.com/album/the-somnambulating-schematic-of-the-obstreperous and Paint by Numbers https://friedkale.bandcamp.com/album/paint-by-numbers

^^^ That's my jam! lololololol -
I'd possibly consider Unlive to be a one-hit wonder They have one absolutely stellar track on Funland Boogie Files (and I guess two other comps, but I've not heard those) and then disappeared. I heard that they had a full album ready to go but nothing happened with it. Wish they did more. and Eupsychia who had one smashing 12" on Shiva Space Technology and then vanished. That 12" still stands out as something special all of these years later

I might. I massively love Darshan and I think I have these somewhere. Sadly, I had a couple of sequential hard drive failures and I lost some stuff. I'll scope and see what I can dig up... -

I love cassettes. I have a box full of them in my studio. I archived nearly all of my radio shows to cassette when I was doing that. What I really love about the cassette mix is that you put it in and it sometimes starts in the middle. There is no fast forwarding, no skipping. Just slams you into an energy and off you go! They're fairly durable and fit into your pocket, unlike a CD which is much larger and cumbersome. Cassettes are great! I miss them =)

The Real Life is sooooo good. Paps has a great techy sound So much groove to it As for Shaolin Wooden Men, Ollie has been posting random stuff to soundcloud here and there. He might release something again at some point =) -

Most recent movie was Keanu! Good movie! Not perfect, but it was fun and I support Key and Peele doing more stuff. To my understanding, they are rebooting Police Academy, which might actually be interesting

Eraser vs. Yƶjalka ? Lords of the Liverdance and Tarinat were always great stormers of albums

This is exactly why I made it a point to not write bad reviews. Why should I shit on someone else's tastes? The idea of a review, to me, is to share why I love something and think other people would want to listen to it.

Shitty Stick appreciation thread

Flying Rhino "came back" a few years ago and it never went anywhere This round of return has indeed brought a couple of progressive eps, but I'm not putting much stock in anything until a bit more happens. The Cass era of Flying Rhino at the end of their initial run was the least interesting phase. They kind of spiraled into Meh around EPs 30 -> 40 When I say I miss Flying Rhino, I'm not just speaking of actual releases but also the type of releases It's kind of like the difference between GNOTR and the Dickster stuff he's been doing recently. It's just not the same... (and this isn't really Flying Rhino's fault. artists just aren't making that sound anymore. Air-Born had three tunes by Sean Process on it in addition to the Slinky tracks. Gus Till does chill out and mid tempo, Process does field recordings and experimental music and immersions, Darshan is progressive, etc etc. Matsuri is doing a decent job with its relaunch and I enjoy the new Flying Rhino EPs, but it's not quite the sound that I miss)- 6 replies

Do you have to LOVE them all or simply Not Dislike any? I definitely have some which I don't dislike any, but some tracks I would say are not LOVE worthy... =) -

It pleases me to wake up and see more people comment on the absurdity of categorizing Man With No Name as experimental. Nearly all old classic Goa albums would have one or two downtempo tracks at the end of the disk. Since those albums span more than one genre are they all now experimental? It's not that one subjective point of view is more accurate than another, it's that your definition is inherently wrong and too ambiguous if it leads to these discussions. There is an aspect of education called Curriculum Framing Questions They should be fact based, have a narrow set of correct answers, promote higher-level thinking Here is a good introduction into it: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1_swtVK4X_2D0jxcmz4TSXx3ovA0TzjztyK2AdYzxuhE/embed?slide=id.i0 While I admire your work and efforts in trying to create this document, there are errors. Experimental, by your definition, is: Man With No Name has rules. His music is very structured and defined. Man With No Name is not experimental. I can ignore some of the other disagreements within the context of this article, but this one is just too much to let pass without commenting on.- 349 replies
