1. Cardamon is quite hard to find in Brazil. And it's expensive, the most expensive spice I have ever bought here. If I wasn't a lover of cardamon (I think it's the spice of the gods), I wouldn't buy it. Expensive or not, it's worth: we have 3 indian dishes in our menu, we use cardamon in all of them. People get crazy about this magical, mysterious flavor they only experience in our restaurant. They ask, they beg: What is this flavor?? But as a good restauranteur, we say "it's our secret, sorry we can't tell you" . It's the cardamon. Love it.
2. @techno: out of curiosity - I have been reading in some Asian news sites that the political relation between Japan and China had worsened a lot over the disputes of a rocky island the Japanese call Senkaku, Daeyou to Chinese. Some are saying it could lead to war, with Australia supporting Japan. How are you guys 'feeling' this?
3. That's the China factor, the new world order. When US was the most powerful nation in the world, everybody got their share of the cake - though not much. With China raising as the #1, everybody will get nothing. China will eat the whole cake. Same is happening here in Brazil, ultra cheap Chinese shoes, clothes are destroying our national industry lilltle by little. The reaction to this is a tariff barrier that tries unsucessfully to stop the cheap imports, and it does more damage than good. Things that are not manufactured here also gets a overtaxation that makes some products the most expensive in the world to the population. And due to lack of vision, energy, telephone, gas, water, are among the most expensive in the workd too, though Brazil is naturally rich by nature. A leftist administration does not help too. In the 10 years since Labor Party came into power, things have deteriorated a lot. Instead of lining up with democratic powerhouses like US, Germany, it has supported the pseudo-democratics like Iran, Venezuela, Argentina. So, a personal warning: beware of leftist parties in your country - wherever it is - they tend to worsen economics. And politics.
4. I am desperately looking for cardamon in the whole city. If I don't find it we'll have to cancel a Índia gastronomy week, which will cost us lots of money.
5. @techno: multiply Australian prices by two, three times. Divide salary by three. Voila', you have Brazil. And I believe that's the economica of most 3rd world countries.
6. There was a time, from 1990 to 1998, that there was this sort of house music that was execrated by everybody that a minimal electronic musical taste: it was the "radio house" genre. Radio house was developed in the wrong time in the wrong scenario. Electronic fans were still listening to the last techno tracks - and its subgenres, when they were fading away. I certainly was one who had Goa on my head and would not listen to nothing else that were not Detroit techno, Chicago house or Goa. So, there was this boom of dancing music on the radio, the Radio House. It was a capital sin, back then to go so commercial, to be played in FM stations. But there they were. I remember how I used to turn off the radio whenever I would listen to the likes of Captain Hollywood, Culture Beat, Twenty4Seven and the likes. Technically, a lot of pianos, which gave them a melodic touch we miss today. There were atmospheric tracks too, "I Like You" has a touch of blue, sadness, that makes it refined to my ears nowadays. 20 years now, and I wish I had appreciated them more. For, if they weren't as rich as Goa, techno or Chicago house, they certainly were much better than the things we listen to now on radios. I listen to them now and wish they could have gone on for a little while more. This sounds like of me apologizing for my friends who danced to 'More and More' while I went to the bar to drink. Here are some I have found in Youtube. Of course most of these tracks are very well known by most of us here in Psynews, but I guess a lot of people don't know them. Enjoy! Culture Beat - I Like You La Bouche - Be My Lover Captain Hollywood - More and More Twenty4Seven - I Can't Stand it
7. Was listening to my Inner City CD which I love beyond words. Then found this gem in the net. This video shows how good Detroit techno was, still is. Inner City - Good Life live
8. Ok here's an example, when I open the Psynews shortcut, it opens the forums page, then I tap - say - on the off-topic forum, then I tap on the "What are you doing?" topic. At this point is that it sends me to the page 1, instead of the last one. EDIT: and if I want to go the last page, to see the latest posts, there's no way other than doing it manually.
9. Is there a "Best DJ" section? Because if there's one, I would like to vote for myself . Just kidding, but the "DJ" topic in Psynews is very good. Bedroom DJs could have their own 15 minutes of fame, yes.
10.
One of the topics that opens only in the 1st page is "What are you doing now?" I have given up posting on it from my iPhone because I can't go to the last page, unless manually. I will screenshot it and post here later.

Edit: I use a shortcut on my iPhone, so it links directly to the 'forums' page, not to a specif topic. So, very difficult to add a number after the slash.

11. Well, when I access Psynews from my smartphone, the topics that have multiple pages (like this very one) will open only in the first page. If I want to go to the last one - say, page 34 of this topic - it's impossible to jump from page 1 to 34. Unless I go all the way from 1, 2, 3...till 34. Is there a solution for that? Just to mention, this is the only site that has this minor problem. Other sites I access I can stay on page 1 or jump directly to the most recent one, usually by clicking on arrows, numbers, etc...
12. I hope so, though I won't vote, for these reasons: 1) 2012 is way too fresh, there are albums, tracks that take time to get a deep flavor, or get blander. I am still listening to 2010 stuff, can't say a word about what's good and what's bad for 2012 releases. 2) There are too many stuff to listen. Last year's Best albums, the vast majority I was unaware of. That's why I suggested that a system of nominees would cast more votes, or so I think.
13. I see. Well, perhaps in this case I would see the ability of using a smartphone or a computer as some kind of "plus", then I wouldn't feel bored. Though this could be a boring thing to others. Let me correct myself: of course I have felt bored in my life, but I think I don't let myself get too deep in it.
14. Feeling bored is a funny thing to me. I have never felt so. Perhaps boredom is a state of mind. If it is, I have never entered this state.
15. I am watching a chilling Nat-Geo documentary showing that 17 of the 20 deadliest snakes in the world live in Australia. And a little bit angry that I will have to pay $150 dollars for a new top-keyboard for my MacBook, which I screwed up while cleaning it.
16. Man, whatever drugs you're taking it is surely working: you do sound like a loonie-tunes character.
17. Thanks Veracohr, I get confused with Latin words that have different spellings in different languages. Innate in English, "nato" in Portuguese. On the topic: I agree with you, but this innate feeling that shortening life is wrong, points to something else beyond beyond biological needs. We feel a need to 'complete' our number of days of our lives, not because of satisfying our daily physical needs only, but because of a subtle sense that I call "moral", as if we have a compromise to a deal we know we can't break up on our own. As if we have a deal with something, someone. IMO.
18. I ask this: if life is nothing more than a sucession of days that will come to an end eventually, so why man has this nate need to survive? Why do we have the nate feeling that making life shorter is so wrong? Life is more than meets the eyes.
19. Yeah, he PM all excusing, thinking his opinion and consequent replies could cause some fuss. But what forums are for, then? I told him. We are not living in a perfect world, so many of good things that arise in our society rises from mud throwing, initially. Edit: I don't know if I had to use "arise" or "rise", but you guys can figure out what I meant. Edit #2: I need to apologise to IMBA on my comment about personality x Goa scene. He'e entitled to emit opinions, and his opinions do not affect his efforts to boost the Goa scene with hard work at all. May Goa live forever, and IMBA live till he's 130 years-old
20. Such a nice discussion I was having with IMBA and it got deleted . FYI, we PMed each other and we are gonna drink something strong etc...Well, at least you Mods could wait the discussion having an end, it could be a Happy End that would bring tears of joy to your eyes. Back to the topic. Nice point Dolmot, reading your post I decided to listen to an American gem I have: Inner City's "Paradise" album, a perfect blend of soul, funk and techno. American artists are good at that.
21. On the topic: Goa is not doing well in USA, but other than real mainstream music - say La Gaga, for instance - some music genres have 'corners' around the world. Can I complain that samba is not doing well in Japan and China? After all, samba is well known, there are lots of Brazilians in these countries, and etc...I don't think I can. So, I can't see why Goa is expected to be a big scene in USA, if it isn't a big scene even in the countries that embraced it once.
22. Not much related to the topic, but I have found this gem. Techno is proving to be timeless. http://www.psychedelicgarden.com/product/13143
23. I was talking to a friend about this, he said that text colors would shorten the life of the battery by one hour, at least. I think he's right. When I used the white text against the black color, it lasted less than when I used black text against white color. I found out that the sepia is the best for battery and for the eyes.
