  1. I agree with the first part of your post, but I don't think it's a case of laziness. From what reviewers wrote here it's that they don't feel pleasure writing about an album they didn't like. But they should. Dissecating a piece of work and discovering why it is not doing so well is as rewarding as doing the contrary. I am not good at reviewing music, I think I lack the language of technology to describe what I am listening to. But I feel more comfortable writing about books, which are more familiar to me. I read all Patricia Cornwell's books until a certain book seemed to have derailed. I read it once again, and I discovered why it had happened so: all of a sudden she changed the point of view of the narrator from the 1st person singular past tense to 3rd person singular present tense. And I wrote a negative review based on how this change had affected her usual plot. To my surprise, all her fans joined me in the review, some even said she was closely following the thread. She never contacted me, but it was rumored she would try to return to her old style. This is an example of how a negative review can be healthy to everybody. I felt a great pleasure writing that review, not attacking the author, just pointing how technically describing an action in 3rd person singular present tense is unnatural to human ears. I wish I could have the ears to write reviews. The only one I feel prepared for is next Astral Projection's album. I am a fan since their 1st work, so I think I have the knowledge to write about them - even if they deserve a negative review.
  2. @Trance@MoveU: I respect a lot your reviews, do not take this personally. I wrote about reviewers in general, not about this or that person. If you take a look, I have commented on some albums you have reviewed. This is a forum, I thought a thread was better to talk about it than starting a discussion in one of the reviews. @Manuser: it's another aspect I thought of too. As some artists are very close to their reviewers - and given that some artists react violently when faced with criticism - I think no one wants to create confusion in this or that forum, and everybody is educated to behave with some displicense and tolerance. Is it good? Yes, of course. But then we are deprived of strong opinions that would certainly cause confusion, but would also help psy/goa move some steps ahead, music-wise.
  3. Well, it is one of the reasons I wondered: people tend to spend time writing about what they like, and feel they are wasting time doing so about things they dislike. What bothers me (a little bit) is that the two major psy sites have good, dedicated reviewers. But they tend to praise almost everything, even albums that are clearly bad. My point is: if you are willing to spend time writing about other people's work constantly, then you have to be aware that you are actually a critic. And as a critic, you have to be honest: tell the bad from the good, and publish both. In a recent review, there's a goa album that makes you want to listen to album right now after you read the whole review, so positively it was rated. When I listened to it, I felt almost all tracks caused me a constant irritation, and I thought it was only me being picky. But then other guys wrote that the album was not that good as reviewed and I gave it a second chance while reading the review track by track. It simply seemed that there were two albums released under the same title. I then took sometime listening to some albums and reading their reviews. What came to my mind is the reason of this thread: psy and goa are the best music around ever, according to their ratings. Well, I am sleepy and out of words. I just wish that just like in the book world, an artist's work was taken as a serious business: it would be good for everybody involved.
  4. As Psynews is one of the most important psy sites on the net, I have a question that bothers me a lot: why is it that all reviews posted here are so positive, so good? Making a comparison, I read two or more books a month, some of them get real negative reviews in newspapers or sites. Just last month I decided to read a mount of poop written by Stephen King, just to check if the ultra-negative reviews matched the work itself. Well, the book deserved to be burned. Critics of the book were more than right. On the other hand, musically speaking, almost all psy or goa out there are must-haves if you follow dedicated critics' opinions, there are no bad songs or bad albums. Everything is floating and pinky. I think it's unrealistic and frustrating. To me, it's one of the reasons that psy/goa declined in quality since 2000: lack of criticism from inside. I want to believe that most reviewers tend to analyse only what they liked listening to and let the bad music aside, but this is not a good approach: all work released to the public should be reviewed equally. Good music deserves to be praised and recommended. Bad music should be critically analysed, and serious opinions should also be expressed. Am I the only one who can't see everything pink when listening to psy?
  5. OMG! That avatar was order made in Antwerp and cost me millions. I hope you have your lawyer ready!
  6. Y3500 for a triple CD plus a booklet is quite cheap, IMO. I have some singles CDs with no booklets I bought at HMW or Tower Records - both in Japan - that cost me Y3000. If if would cost Y6000 it would still an acceptable price - in comparison to other products in Japan.
  7. Well, the circle closed: your last post is the very reason of the first one from Lemmiwinks.
  8. It would be great, but I am no good mixer at all! I searched and found "Sometimes Winning..." on your Soundcloud page, but it seems a little bit compressed - have you realized that? Great work, love hard kicks like yours.
  9. Yes, I had not noticed it was posted in Psyristor site. Sorry for doubling it.
  10. This is KURO playing live last month. I retreat my words, I need this album now!!
  11. Great track Siam, loved it. I have told you before that I have been following you in Youtube for sometime now. That said, I would like to make a comment on your tracks. They have a pattern that repeats in all of them: the first 1/3 of the track when you introduce some elements, it's magic. It is a crescendo that shows that in some seconds the track will turn into a hurricane of layers. Problem is, when the track is supposed to skyrocket, it does not do anything. Quite the contrary, some of your tracks seem to "slow down" the layers - I have observed this on the dancefloor many times. You know, that moment when everybody is shouting expecting the "boom!"? It is just that it does not "boom!", and I feel frustrated for that. The rest of the track is a pattern of what we heard in the 1/3 part of it. You and Nova Fractal are my favorite neogoa trance artists, that is why I decided to make this commnet. Of course, you may ignore it completely if you are satisfied with your work. But as a DJ and a fan of yours, I hope you change your writing a little bit, that you give some stamina to the 2nd half of your tracks. It would be great.
  12. Cream, in today's music? Where? Please give 5 solid examples of good rock, pop, dance and metal, each. Good music that is good to the ears, it's critically aclaimed and that's not a 2012 version of a 1982 song. Waiting here.
  13. The world of music has been on a descent since the 1970s. Decade after decade music is getting poorer and pooren in quality. IMO, it's directly related to the fact that the two last decades were poor in terms of inspiration too. Now we have everything the generation of Queen fought for: open sex, same-sex marriage, women on top, no more politic wars (or we got used to them), insulting now is cliche. This generation of writers have no inspiration whatsoever. And sadly this reflects on psy world too. I hope it's a cycle, but I don't see an end to the current one so soon. Rock'n rolling speaking, I had some hope with Oasis - but they proved to be the bottom line of the bottom line. Pop? I refuse to listen to Beyonce and any of the other girls out there.
  14. I own a lounge bar along with my bf, and we sell a lot of Grant combos: 4 cans os Red Bull plus 1 Grant bottle for U$ 60,00. We sell to rich people, given that our prices are selective. So to me, it's completely OK his playing along with Grant. And come on, who is drinking U$ 100,00 whisky in psychedelic parties? Not even in NY, I believe. What really matters is that this track sounds great, he drinking poison or champagne.
  15. Great mix. I loved the hard tracks, i.e., "sometimes winning, sometimes losing". Powerful tracks. 10/10 IMO.
  16. Thanks Rotwang. You are right! Now it all makes sense. I spend hours thinking, trying to figure out what could replace "remain", what a relief! BTW, it's "...can feed the hunger in our hearts" and not in our "hears" as I wrote. Feel free to correct any other mistake I made. Edit: "all our faith was dead", is what she sings? It seems a little odd to me.
  17. I was asked to illustrate a DVD which will feature this song - a wonderful song btw - and I need to write down the lyrics. I have tried my best, but there's two or more sentences I couldn't understand clearly. Can anyone help me? The question marks are where I could not understand. Here's the video: Collette Biron-Reid - Love Is The Answer Here's what I understood: I had a dream last night: The world turned out all the lights We were left in darkness There was nothing to remind us Of our life that we once had Things we thought we wanted And all our faith was dead Then I woke up and remembered Love that's the answer Nothing else can play with the dark (?) Only love can feed the hunger in our hears That's the answer, the only answer I had a dream this morning but with a smile upon my face I saw the God inside us we'd create a better place we celebrate our differences there would be no room for hate and all the souls before us could live their own lives remain (?) Love, that's the answer nothing else can play the dark only love can feed the hunger in our hearts that's the answer the only answer Love, that's the answer
  18. Psychedelic garden is selling it too. Have ordered from them in the past, but you must cross the jungle of kanjis. http://www.psychedelicgarden.com/product/12319
  19. Yes, some of us didn't master yet the thousand years old technique of thinking before speaking. Back on topic, Dunes of Gold is really impressive. Could be the track that will fuel the rest of the album. I didn't like One, but I hope it will make sense when the album is released and we can hear it against the other tracks.
  20. Richpa: you first opinion didn't sound unbiased at all. You said people should invest in newer artists instead of buying AP. If you just had said you think they are sh##, as technosomy said in another post, it would be then your personal opinion only. But you put money into the equation, and given that you run Neogoa, you sondes more like you are trying to sell your fish by telling the other vendor sells rotten fish. I am sure it was unintentional, but that is how it sounded. @technosomy: I have listened to Goa and Neogoa for more than 20 years. I got the balls to emit my opinions, as long as they are unbiased, and musically relevant - or irrelevant - only.
  21. Some good tracks, others we have to wait the release. Richpa: the only neogoa work worth buying is Nova Fractal's. The rest is you selling 6 endless minutes of boredom as good music. No better nor worse than AP.
  22. He did it again! Nova Fractal remix of Cellar Door put me in a state of pure trance I am yet to recover from it. It is tracks such as this that still makes me love Goa. One of the best tracks ever. Congrats to Pharaom and Nova Fractal, for such a superb work.
  23. I have never bought CDs from Discog. Is it reliable? I am dreaming of getting my hands on this one: http://www.discogs.com/sell/list?release_id=103627&ev=rb
