Excuse me Procyon, but I find this opinion very difficult to deal with. I think it can be safely said that music in whichever genre is in constant flux by definition, if it wants to or not. This is because every contribution by every individual and/or collective to a certain genre adds a bit (or more) of themselves to the repertoire of the genre and therefore expanding it and letting it evolve. Then we have the technological improvements and improvements in production through evolution of knowhow. Then again we have the other side, the audience which changes too and with it the music. And this is only three factors which contribute to the evolution of music, I'm sure there are much much more. To me, saying there is no evolution in any electronic music genre is like denying the holocaust (excuse the harshness of this comparison). As a second point, I wholeheartedly deny that modern Goa has lost the energy. For example, just listen to GoaTree's The Force debut EP. It's free. It's packed with energy, and I'm sure he's only just getting started. Then there's this new VA on Zion604 which has some awesome new tracks from the likes of Lapsus. Or look at Cosmic Dimension's Viral Breath on the latest Suntrip VA... And that's just from some releases of the last months, there's quite a lot of very good modern Goa around. Of course there's garbage (which will change with different taste into very good music, mind you) but there has been garbage since Goa was first conceived. For me it is thrilling to see how Goa has become the handle to this giant umbrella of different subgenre's. I'm entirely satisfied with how the music has evolved as long as proper goa is being released, which is. You can say that it is a pity how full-on and some forms of progressive are evolving and how these kinds of subgenre's attract the largest crowd, but then again this is the same case with every other kind of music. The simplest forms of music always have (or get it over time) the biggest following, even within every underground genre I think. I also believe that judging the evolution of any musical genre is pointless as you can do nothing to stop it, it just happens. Here you go, superb 'newschool':

Got mine today and have to say: Zion604 is definitely on a roll here. Best compilation of the year 'till now, what do you say? And that with such a strong contender as Blacklight Moments...

I have said it before but I will say it again: Soma (Veda Remix) is such an absolute BEAST of a track it's just unbelievable.... Why is their still no review up about this? Ah well, we'll see them coming in the reviews for Phoenix I guess. They better.

That sounds logical, given music's very close relationship to language. But for example traditional instruments may differ from country to country while for psytrance, synthesizer stays THE 'instrument' used. I think that this then is one of the groundreasons why the genre in itself has a very homogenic sound. I guess you can call this the 'formula'.

Exactly, there can be no doubt about that. The more interesting question, and also a lot harder to answer, is how a countries/culture's mentality affects different ways of expression. I've always found that even though there are a lot of country-specific manifestations of psytrance, as Ormion put it very well, the overal psytrance sound is a lot more homogenic than for example various kinds of folk-music of different countries. Is this because of the hardware/software?

The hypnagogia track has grown to become one of my favorite morning-tracks! Great flow, superb sample, enjoyably floaty, right amount of acid... great!

I can only imagine you were awe-inspired by Solar Fields if Staring into the Nothingness was the first track you ever heard of him nice way of being introduced to psybient ^^

I guess the reason why I like this so much is the combination of that old-school rawness and downright in-your-face-value (and with this I do mean the Kick and bass) together with nice melodies. Great use of voice-samples, fitting them perfectly into the right atmosphere. Ow and that acid comes straight from the 90's I reckon... Very good job! And it's free!

I agree completely. Voyager II, in my eyes has become a classic of the new era. This is the sound of him I fell in love with; Dark, deep, hypnotic and very powerful. It just goes under your skin. Wrong. The reason why pop culture exists is much, much more complex, but I think you already know that. I don't quite see how this applies to filteria and suntrip records. Filteria became popular (worldwide) in the last 5 years, but has been producing music for much longer. Surely he and his label can name an influence of his? It's not like he nor Suntrip are getting rich out of this and I don't think it's their intention either. They just like to make and release the music they want to make/like/release. The criticism you have on it seems not only a bit harsh but also completely unjustified. You can say Filteria is not your cup of tea, but that doesn't change anything about the facts that new goa trance still has a very small fanshare amongst other psygenre's worldwide and that there's no money in it whatsoever.

I agree! It's a great first compilation from Hado and I do hope they will continue the effort, it's always refreshing to see a new compilation from a goa label. Standout-tracks for me are: Order to Chaos by Alienapia: SUCH a good track! I love the energy and the melodies but the standout soundscape for me in this track is after the first breakdown... It sounds really alienesque and deep, like a gigantic alien corridor of psychedelic structures echoing and folding back on itself. Superb sample too. God I want a second album from them! Beyond The Clouds by Celestial Intelligence: Great spiraling energetic Goa, curious to hear more from them. Great climax! Cosmic Voyage by Eleusyn: Noticeably half E-Mantra! Hypnotizing, deep and lovely floating acid-lines. Path To Sychelia by Asirion: Beautiful track! This actually surprised me quite a lot because his track on the first Global Sect compilation didn't really catch my interest. This however, is perfect floaty morning stuff. Very enjoyable to listen to. I hope he continues in this vein. The Skarma track is not as good as the one on blacklight moments. It sounds a bit too much like uplifting euphoric trance for me, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing of course. Other interesting efforts are the Artifact303 remix of Dansul Ielelor (which isn't as good as E-Mantra's remix of Beyond Lightspeed, although that could be due to the original quality of the tracks) and Filteria's Amnesia reaction (which does sound a lot like earthrise at a certain point, like penzo already pointed out.). Apart from the quality of the tracks one can't help but notice the astonishing artwork on the compilation (one also reminisces the awesome Lost In Time artwork). This is what gives compilations this little extra!! Great great piece of art. I am really happy to own it! Give us more Hado!
