  1. The 4/4 dance music structure is a real straitjacket. I prefer trippy, psychedelic music with more rhythmic variety (eg, Slackbaba). I'll always enjoy goa, but it's time to move on to more challenging music.
  2. I don't know if it's the mastering or the original material, but I find most of the Crossing Mind tracks incredibly shrill. I can hear the talent, but I just can't stand the sound.
  3. Thanks for the link to the Finnish site. Too bad many of the SoundCloud tracks aren't available for download or available elsewhere.
  4. Not CDs, but try the Glowing Flame compilations available at Bandcamp: http://beatspace-glowingflame.bandcamp.com/ Try VA - Temple Of One or VA - The Well Of Enchanted Sounds.
  5. Nystagmus - The Immaculate Perception is close to early Infected Mushroom: http://anahatamusic.bandcamp.com/album/the-immaculate-perception
  6. Direct link to Bandcamp: https://beatspace-forestdelic.bandcamp.com/album/light-of-the-night-v-a-forestdelic-records
  7. Just finished The Apocalypse Codex, the 4th book in the Laundry Files series by Charles Stross. http://www.amazon.com/Apocalypse-Codex-Charles-Stross/dp/0356500985/ref=tmm_pap_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&sr=&qid= The LF series follows a computer geek recruited by a British agency (the Laundry) focused on the occult and supernatural defense. The books are a humorous mashup of Lovecraft, science fiction, and spy thrillers. Nothing profound, just fun to read. Try the 1st book, The Atrocity Archives, to see if you might be interested. http://www.amazon.com/Atrocity-Archives-Laundry-Files-Novel/dp/0441016685/ref=sr_1_4?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1398008696&sr=1-4&keywords=charles+stross
  8. There was also a fake Psygone (Ingmar Veeck) who put out a couple of tracks on various compilations.
  9. Classical music can be overwhelming because there's so much material. I mostly prefer the Haydn / Mozart / Beethoven era, but there's also a lot of great music before and after these composers. Here are a few initial suggestions which only scratch the surface: The Best Of Haydn (Naxos) The Best Of Mozart (Naxos) The Best Of Beethoven (Naxos) Haydn - minuets or divertimentos (divertimenti) - the Paris Symphonies - the London Symphonies Mozart - overtures or divertimentos (divertimenti) - Symphonies 38-41 Handel - Water Music - Music For The Royal Fireworks Beethoven - German dances, Modlinger dances, or minuets - Symphony 6 Naxos (and other labels) also has "Best Of" compilations for many other composers, plus compilations organized around various themes, such as famous Classical melodies. It's an easy way to survey the genre if you're not sure what you like. Your local library might also have classical music available.
  10. Rather than start with full scale symphonies you might begin with shorter pieces. For example, I enjoy the following types of short compositions: overtures, divertimentos, minuets, German dances, modlinger dances, and serenades, all by Haydn, Mozart, or Beethoven. You can find many albums of such music at Naxos (http://www.naxos.com/) and other classical labels. There are also many cheap "greatest hits" compilations for all the well known composers. Even though the cuts are very short it's an easy way to sample a lot of music to find out what you might enjoy.
  11. I always thought that Bandcamp gives the labels a pretty fair deal, especially compared to the cost of running your own online store. Is your comment specific to Bandcamp, or just digital downloads in general?
  12. Great news! Thanks. When will we be able to preview the music for this latest album?
  13. Not familiar with OT since they never really had much impact in the US. Is this group primarily instrumental, or is there singing too? Any similarities to prog rock groups?
  14. Pretty good EP. I liked Epsilon Aurigae and Chromatic World the most.
  15. The explosive growth of the Internet over the last 20 years has also had a major impact on music media. On the one hand, the Internet makes it possible to assemble a global audience of sufficient size to (almost) support a niche music like goa / psy. On the other hand, Internet technology pushes music in the direction of easily distributed digital files rather than physical media like vinyls and CDs.
  16. There's lots of old psy on vinyl, but the production runs were small and most of the labels are no longer in business. CD sound quality is also much better, although the purists might disagree.
  17. Back on January 8, I previewed the album on Bandcamp, liked the music, bought the album, downloaded the music, and moved on to other things. Yesterday, the CD arrived from Israel. I had totally forgotten that I was also getting a CD even though I had paid an extra 4 Euros back in January to ship a piece of plastic that I didn't really want. I would have been much happier just to pay 8 Euros for the digital download album.
  18. BTW, why do some CD collectors object to digital downloads as long as the disks are still available too? You buy the disk and I'll buy the download. Everybody wins.
  19. And shipping expense. Why pay for postage when the music can be electronically delivered anywhere in the world for free.
  20. His website "all tracks" list includes a Delty but no Deity.
  21. Product packaging that's so strong that you nearly destroy the product trying to open the package.
  22. Hallucinogen - Alphacen [Alpha Centauri?] Imperial Project - Live Force [Life Force?] PsiloCybian - Peyotl [Peyoti?] Trold - We Are The Devine [Divine?] Vibraddict - Acid Droper [Dropper?]
  23. With some track names you can't tell if people are trying to be clever, or if they have some trouble with English, or if they just can't be bothered to proofread album info.
  24. Every time I follow a link to the "new and improved" SoundCloud I get an error message (which I know is incorrect). Are we now supposed to set up an account and log-in just to listen to music? Is anyone else having this problem?
