  1. The use of an oud opens up some interesting possibilities, but I don't think it really adds much to the YouTube video, where it basically appears as a prop. However, I think the trance fusion idea does have potential.
  2. I wish more goa / psy music would leave the dancefloor behind and incorporate greater rhythmic complexity and polyrhythms. So many songs are ruined by predictable kicks, overloud high hats, and static BPMs. For me, this is one of the largest weaknesses of this otherwise great musical genre. As a counter-example, one album I've always enjoyed for its greater rhythmic variety is Slackbaba - And The Beat Goes Om. http://www.discogs.com/Slackbaba-And-The-Beat-Goes-Om/release/720017
  3. I was trying to figure out how to embed a YouTube video for one of the album's tracks, but couldn't get it to work and couldn't delete the post. Hence, the minimal approach. I do like most of the album, except for track 8. However, Synergy and Cosmology are both much better than Contact.
  4. Mumbo Jumbo - Weird, Sick And Twisted (Cosmosis Remix) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_c4_Mpe8jys (Sorry, don't know how to embed video directly.)
  5. There are two pretty good compilations, but I don't know how easy they are to find today: http://www.discogs.com/Various-The-Psychedelic-Culture/release/1539547 http://www.discogs.com/Various-The-Psychedelic-Culture-2/release/1850736
  6. FYI, if you buy directly from Nano the digital album (320 MP3) is only $8. http://www.nanomusic.net/releases-2/
  7. FYI, a 2011 remastered version is available at Bandcamp: http://ubartmar.bandcamp.com/album/fusion-remaster-2011
  8. If you are primarily interested in CD1 (or you can't find a reasonably priced copy available for sale) you might consider the 2011 remastered version of the Fusion album as a possible substitute: http://ubartmar.bandcamp.com/album/fusion-remaster-2011 The remastered Fusion album is not identical to CD1, but it does have versions of 6 of the 8 tracks on CD1 (plus 5 other tracks).
  9. I got this album a few years ago (yeah, late to the party again), but I just couldn't get into it. I recently circled back to try it again and now I love it. I think the key is to drop any preconceptions about psy trance and to approach the album as a whole, rather than track by track. One Drop Or Two? is definitely an acquired taste, but worth the effort. 9/10
  10. What is a cheesy melody? The more I see this description, the less I understand it. "Cheesy" sounds more and more like an all purpose criticism that basically means "something I don't like". How is a "cheesy melody" qualitatively inferior to other styles? I'm confused.
  11. Two albums I've enjoyed over the last few months: JBC Arkadii - Sounds From Tomorrow (Sita Records, April 2013) http://www.discogs.com/JBC-Arkadii-Sounds-From-Tomorrow/release/4511562 http://beatspacesita.bandcamp.com/album/jbc-arkadii-sounds-from-tomorrow-sita-records and VA - Wicked Gail's Trail (Forestdelic Records, April 2013) http://www.discogs.com/Various-Wicked-Gails-Trail/release/4557854 http://forestdelic.bandcamp.com/album/va-wicked-gails-trail
  12. Places you should visit at least once: Tokyo, Hong Kong, Singapore, Sydney, Bali, Rio de Janeiro Places I'd like to visit again: Queensland Australia, Chile Places I want to visit but haven't been yet: New Zealand
  13. This is a great album that never got the recognition it deserved. I'm disappointed that the remix album never happened, but the original is a true classic. 11/10
  14. I'll miss the visuals, but the reviews are still funny as hell.
  15. Thanks for the review. It's not always possible to check out everything at Ektoplazm. I missed this album back in May, probably because of the Progressive tag, which is somewhat misleading. Anyway, this is a good album, and the price is right.
  16. Do the CDs with playback problems have unusually long total playing times?
  17. I wish someone like Draeke could reissue some of the Flying Rhino catalog, including Slinky Wizard material like the Jammy Mutants EP and the Money Come Cheap EP. http://www.discogs.com/artist/Slinky+Wizard
  18. The first couple of tracks don't hit you over the head, but as the album progresses it really starts to build momentum and you begin to realize how good it is.
  19. DAT / Crop Circles Bandcamp site: http://beatspace-dat.bandcamp.com/album/crop-circles-full-mental-jackpot-ep-dat-records http://beatspace-dat.bandcamp.com/album/crop-circles-lunar-civilization-ep-dat-records
  20. So which artists have you come to appreciate more? Which production masters deserve greater recognition?
  21. Will the albums released in a CD version also be released in a digital version (eg, Bandcamp or Beatport)?
