ack, man, nothing worse than losing stuff like that. i've definitely had my share of painful HD crashes (you would think that after so many times, we'd all be in the habit of backing up...but that ain't happenin, heh) i had no luck either w\ that torrent. frontier, that gif is frucking hilarious man... stupid biznatch on a treadmill... -ensign

this is pretty random, but DJ Nemo: has anyone told you how much you look like Edward Norton in that picture... especially Norton in American History X (great movie, in case you haven't seen it). how many tats you have total? i've got 2 now and am trying to decide on a 3rd (what of.... not if, heheh). -ensign

well... talpa arrived and I agree that it along the same lines as IM, and yet is not the same. so far i've probably listened through it 5 or so times, and i am really digging it. I also got "The Messenger" song off of the space mantra compilation.. too bad the rest of the compilation isn't as good as that track (but hard to judge b\c i listened to that track first). the messenger is awesome... i really dig the piano parts as well as the slowed-down melody that starts @ 8:01. i dont know if any of you guys are video games, but one reason i've fallen for mushroom-ish stuff is that some of the melodies are similar to music found in the castlevania series of games. video game themes (good ones) were one of the reasons i was initially attracted to electronic music... unfortunately, listening to the music in most games is like being stuck in an elevator for hours listening to kenny G playing sax (which i can by all rights make fun of, because i played sax for 6 or so years)..ugh -ensign

yeah i totally hear you on that. I'm def the same way with Posford and Fluke also. Although with Fluke, I haven't really enjoyed anything outside of Oto and Risotto. There is also just the thrill of trying to complete a collection, which can be anything (stamps/coins/cards/CDs, etc). It always feels good to finally track down that rare item that has eluded you for so long. Problem is that in the case of music, for the most part, the ultrarare stuff isn't usually the best (which is why it's so freaking rare, heh). So for me at least, the actual tracking it down is more rewarding than the reward of the CD itself. Ofttimes I'll find a CD that I am completely in love/infatuated with... all tracks sound amazing, and i'll play the hell out of it. Meanwhile I'll be looking for more of that sound by the same artist, but it just so happened that I found the best CD by them to begin with so it's a gradual let-down as the search goes on. -ensign

yeah, i agree overdose about the quality of kadafi... it's definitely one of those songs that people who are intimidated by electronica outside the realm of pop-crap can truly enjoy. i just started listening to converting vegetarians and have yet to really get into it. After just one listening of Classical Mushroom, I was hooked. It was depressing afterwards to find out how much IM has changed, and that I didn't have more of that to look forward to. i downloaded IM the Supervisor, and about halfway through the first song, the part where these horrible vocals come in, i started laughing (and crying inside) at HOW AWFUL the music has become... and promptly turned it off. I just wish I hadn't missed the boat for IM and went to see them live in their heyday. looking forward to my Talpa CD's arrival. -ensign

sweet...thanks, ben. they actually have that Space Mantra compilation at PsyShop, so i'm good to go. I went to that shiva space technology website and listened to the crap-quality real media sample they have of that song, and it is definitely awesome. I still need to get an album from Misted Muppets and Talpa. Thanks again for the help guys, you rock -ensign (btw, my real name is ben, hehe)

Thanks for the input.. I haven't been able to find that album "Kumharas" by Shiva Space Technology (has The Messenger on it)... anyone know where to look? (Psyshop/SeikoSounds don't have it)

Do you all know of any albums/songs that are similar in style to Infected Mushroom's songs "Dancing with Kadafi" & "The Missed Symphony" (from BP Empire and Classical Mushroom respectively)? I really like how there are so many different sounding themes/melodies within these two songs, and have been unable to find music like it. thanks, ben

Thanks for the suggestions, Trolsk. I'll try to track those down now, although I didn't see some of them at PsyShop nor Saiko sounds. Amphiton, I've been using both those sites to purchase music, and i know how to find cross-label references etc, but I was wondering if you have any particular favorites along the same lines (if we share any of the same tastes). Also thanks, Prime8... I've actually got Hallucinogen-In Dub (i like), Ott-Blumenkraft (has several awesome tracks), Eclipse - Journey into..., and Mystery of the 13 Crystal Skulls (also good stuff)... but the other stuff is new to me. Seems like you've hit right on the mark so far based on the ones you suggested that I own/like, so I'll check out the others for sure. Anyone else? -Ben

Hello all, I'm new here, but have been sifting through the threads for a couple weeks or so (i can't stand when someone barges into a forum without first assessing the climate...i digress). I'm fairly new to the realm of psychedelic music, and like most Americans, I have had extremely little exposure nor access to it. My best friend, whose musical taste and mine have evolved along a very similar parallel, came across Shpongle while Kazaa'ing for new music, as we are constantly in search of something that sounds new/fresh/different. This was a few years ago, and it happened to coincide with a time in our lives when we were delving into the world of non-musical psychedelic cultivation. We found, as I'm sure many others have, that the heightened, or altered sense of awareness and reality conjured by Posford and Ram were in ways comparable to the "unsanity" brought on by our fungal friends. Since then, we've sought out more music that would produce these desired effects, to counter our move away from that stage in our lives. I've hunted down the Hallucinogen albums, which I do enjoy but not to the same extent as the Shpongle albums (I am eagerly awaiting the 3rd and final release). I had bought B.P. Empire a while ago, my first exposure to Infected Mushroom, but it was at a time before I could fully appreciate it. More recently I tracked down Classical Mushroom, of which I am ENORMOUS fan, and having listened to that can now enjoy BP Empire (although not to the same extent as CM). One of my most recent favorites was Younger Brother's Flock of Bleeps... the textures within that one song Crumblenaut are amazing. Forgive me if I am not falling entirely into the correct classification, but over the years I have had an extremely hard time differentiating specific genres, because within a single album, or even a single song, there could be movements of psytrance/ambient etc etc. I now have the Gathering en route, as well as X-Dream's Radio on its way. I know these don't fall into the same genres, but I am also a huge fan of The Orb's earlier albums, as well as Fluke's Risotto (minus the 1st two commerical-crap tracks) and Sasha's Airdrawndagger... I also have the two Shulman CDs, which I consider to be quite beautiful and have great moments (no pun intended), but don't always hold my interest (i believe his second album is superior). i am posting here to tap what I assume is a great resource in finding new music along the same lines as my current tastes... i dont expect to find the same sounding music, but merely ask your help in the progression of my musical taste. thank you all in advance for your recommendation, and I look forward to becoming a member of your community. cheers! -ben ps - sorry about the length of the post and hope you guys made it through to the end =)
