  1. Well first of all stick to philters hints. Compression can help you a lot, but dont compress too much because it can distort your tune. Cutoff --> depends on the tune. If youre going for some ultra deep dark psy you should drag it down to ultra low. If you are going for "brighter" stuff, try values from 30% to 50% ... in general everything above 50% is in my opinion too high and will most likely interfere with the rest of your tune. 37% turned out to be the best value for me. If you think it is too dull, try Tuning --> Set it to lowest, you can do the detuning in the sequencer anyway. Envmod --> Again depends on the tune, but if you think your bass is too dull, play with this value, a higher Envmod will usually make your bass sound more accentuated. Decay --> goes together with envmod. A long decay setting will be useful for longer bass notes sliding into each other, whereas a typical full-on bassline should have zero decay. Attack --> IMO a bad setting, you should rather leave this alone, at least for basslines. Same with distortion. Ok, some settings I suggest for a full-on bassline: Cutoff: ~35%, Detuning: 0% (lowest), Envmod: 50%, Decay: 0% Then a compressor with settings: Threshold: -16db, Ratio 1:2,5, gain: 6-8db ... well something like that, it usually depends, just play around until it sounds good. If you still feel uncontent, try spanning 2 octaves with your bassline, for example C3-C4-C3 , the deep ones will provide the subfrequencies, whereas the high will contribute the higher tone carrying freqs.
  2. I use audiorealism bassline, which is in my opinion simply the best VST plugin for basslines. I am very careful with FX on the bassline. Some delay could turn out well, but in general Compression on my bassline is enough.
  3. I dont know, it has NOTHING in common with my track, at least from the clip i just heard. I suppose its just Squaffys sense of humour, heh
  4. Ha, another Lars ! I just agree with Mindfly here, I think if youre really serious about it, you should go ask at several labels.
  5. Heya, just got back. Now commenting on your updated version. Nice intro, very trippy synth you got there, I just love it. The cymbal (?) Sound at 0:50 is a good idea but I think it sounds too upfront. Maybe make it a bit shorter in itself. Anyway, nice melody line at 1:42, very trippy, but I think the synth sounds somehow very hollow, I think that was your intention but you could make it a bit warmer. And yeah, it sounds indeed pretty much like Talamasca. The production was very nice. Sounded almost professional, I think youre on a very good way ... so when are YOU gonna sign a label?
  6. Thanks for your comments. Well, like Sherlock Squaffy found out, I'm just a ripping bastard so I think I can forget to get signed now
  7. your still ok? At least say I ripped off Xenomorph or something like that but not Benza who I never heard anything of
  8. Percussive elements, especially hihats need to be crispier. Try some compression. Fill out the frequency spectrum. But really not bad as a first track, my first attempts were much worse Nice atmosphere! I wish I could write more, but I dont have that much time right now, sorry. Keep on making music!
  9. I recommend Audiorealism Bassline for Basslines (the name says it already). Simple to use, works great. And then try some heavy compression (but not too heavy, or your bass gets distorted). In order to let your notes "slide" into each other, increase the decay.
  10. In order to make a track more driving, I suggest an element that hits every or almost every 1/16th. To make drums darker, simply pitch them down, and add reverb/delay. A tabla synth can add some nice driving percussive FX. Try Rimshots or Toms, or play with the pitch of Hihats. "Targeted" Delay will really help you spice up a boring repetitive pattern of any percussion. Delay times of 3/16 are your friend, just try that. Specialist for great Delay FX is the VST Ohmforce Ohmboyz. And then of course panning is butter and bread to any percussion. ReFX Vanguard has some great percussive lines. It's basically a noise waveform with a short ADSR, sent into an arpeggiator or a trancegate.
  11. Yeah, back to Psy This one can be considered some kind of Full-On. Its maybe not that dark as my previous tracks are, but I still feel damn content with it. This track is actually a bit older and I just adapted it to Omer's Template so it sounds really good. It's a great template for Fruitey Loops, made by The Darkone.. best suited for trance music. On my last track "Shark" you wanted more layers! Now I never had as many layers as in this one Length: 9:22 mins Size: 13MB Bitrate 192kbps Here's the link: Cybernetika - Science is Art Enjoy it. I'd be happy about any comment
  12. No prob, thanks for your feedback Well, I usually take samples and combine them with each other. For example, if I like the high frequencies of one kick and the low bass of another, I layer them so that one contributes the high frequencies and one the lower. Sometimes I use the "pogo" function in Fruity Loops. But the key to this are of course good samples, and theyre very hard to find, I admit. Here's a psy kick very similar to the one I used in this track: http://www.cybernetika.de/psy_kick.wav Well, and for the EQ I usually use Fruity Loops integrated Parametric EQ, nothing special here. Probably the best compressor is the Waves RComp, it simply sound best, its part of the Waves Bundle, these are absolutely professional tools... But I personally use the Anwida Soft CX1V as compressor, look here: http://www.anwida.com/cx1v.asp .. works very well too. As gate I use the mgTriggerGate (http://www.mgaudio.de/modules/main.php?content=products&lang=eng) ... its freeware. Delay and reverb are all made with the Fruity Loops integrated Plugins, or with the mda FX-Plugins, useful little helpers (here: http://mda.smartelectronix.com/) Well thats it I think, thanks for your feedback
  13. I dont know Ableton Live, but I think if you have the proper VSTplugins, you can get very far with Fruity Loops. I suggest you start with fruity loops, because there you are not slowed down by details and can arrange a track quite fast and can really concentrate on the more important things for startes. If you come to the point where you consider yourself good enough, you can switch to Cubase, Live or stuff like that. btw. I might help you with a little tutorial I am writing at the moment. I'll post it in this forum when I'm finished.
  14. Fine, fine So, here's a new sound for you, Vanguard too... something between FX and pad, holding the note a bit is recommended. it has some LFO action to it so it will sound different every time you play it http://www.cybernetika.de/brainwash.fxp It's called "Brainwash" I am working on a full soundbank for Vanguard called "nightmare" where I want to collect all dark and twisted sounds. Your contributions are welcome!
  15. Alright, we've got some very good producers and synth designers in here, thats why I got the idea we could set up some soundbanks for the common soft synths. Discovered a really good sounding synthsound and want to share it with the others? Post your preset here. I thought of it as a starting help for newbies who want to have some good sounding presets to start with. I thought of soundbanks for the following synths: ReFX Vanguard Linplug Albino rgcaudio z3ta+ NI Absynth But of course youre free to add sounds for any synth you want. Of course I dont want to limit you to psy only but its preferred. I'm making a start, here's my first contribution for ReFX Vanguard, called "Alienspawn" http://www.cybernetika.de/alienspawn.fxp Anyone up for this? A bad idea? please tell me.
  16. Hey, this doesnt sound bad at all. The bass is thumping nicely, the melody is really good, the pads work quite well. It has basically everything needed for a good track. Though I was missing something. The lead stands quite lonely, maybe add another layer? Anyway, I enjoyed listening, keep it up
  17. Awesome album, nice Cover, you got several other very interesting releases there. I love them all! Nice dark stuff all around. Psyfactor, Mubali and Derango made some killer tracks (and I mean Killer in a really good way )
  18. I agree with MpMsAy here. It's not as bad as I feared it would be, but far away from their old stuff, unfortunately.
  19. Hey, I just wanted to say Mubali, your track is awesome, really! Twisted and creepy, just how I like my psy. In fact the track is maybe the best Ive heard in 2005 so far. Keep it up! I am currently writing a Psytrance tutorial which will cover some basics for newbies that want to start producing Psy.
  20. I think I love ReFX Vanguard, I used it in almost all my tracks. I know it sounds kinda metallic, but if your going for the really distorted stuff, you cant beat this one. Linplug albino is great for FXes, highly tweakable, I like it. Audiorealism Bassline is just perfect for basslines. Spectrasonics Atmosphere is another fave of mine, I love the amazing sound quality of it. Every single sound is totally impressive.
  21. Shaft: Got the point. I think I'll try to get one of my tracks on a comp so I just get a little money to buy more webspace so that I can offer even more tracks .. even though there are some people that told me they'd pay for a cd of mine I still want to spread my music mostly for free... Subsonik: Thanks a lot for the detailed review, I really appreciate it The distortion appearing there is actually the result of heavy compression. I dont know how it could appear there, all of a sudden I had that effect so I thought it were my speakers fucking up the sound Interesting to see most people reviewing this track say they miss some kind of another layer. I'll see what I can do
