  1. Any feedback on the APC40 or on Push? They look enticing
  2. I like Soundcloud, but it seems they don't have the blog feature (to post tutorials, in my case). Otherwise, what I could do is use my current free hosting and embed soundcloud players
  3. Actually, yes, I already have it (free as in beer, ad-free and reliable), but it's only raw web space (no convenient interface to manage, upload, etc...), which is fine, but I was just wondering if there's something even better
  4. GagaISM: Minimal trance that is nice to listen to. Only thing that makes me feel down is the photo of that poor lady!
  5. In every tune, all instruments argue one another, sometimes the agree, they stop talking, and resume argueing. Each instrument has its own personality, some of them have a loud voice, some have a high-pitch voice. Some talk very fast, some express themselves slowly in the background. There are small and little guys. Some of them show up all of the sudden, in the middle of a conversation. A tune is like a conversion between a bunch of instruments. What do you think?
  6. I'm thinking about setting up a page with tutorials broken down into categories, subcategories and subsubcategories, on goa trance creation, with an embedded player and file download (presets, samples). Any suggestion of free-of-charge, ad-free and reliable web hosting provider?
  7. I mean, do you have most of your combinations of sounds and patterns ready before actually starting your tune in your DAW?
  8. Before composing a tune for real, do you take, say, a 16-step score range in your DAW, and add, say, 10 MIDI tracks with different instruments playing different patterns? This, used as a basis for the rest of the tune, and that can be played as a loop with some of the tracks mute or not, as time goes. What do you think? Do you use a similar technique?
  9. I hear you! I know what you mean very well and I have already experienced it! I have convinced DJs to insert a goa trance tune here and there on a live set among techno or house tunes, and it scares people away. To be successful and please the audience with goa trance music, you really have to chose your audience and inform beforehand what's gonna be played. This will bring the right folks and filter out those who aren't into it. People who like to dance to this kind of music know the codes: psychedelic artwork, indian symbols, artist names; etc. I wouldn't play goa trance at a wedding for mom and dad
  10. I haven't measured but I think the 1st tune you played is more around 130bpm, thank God. One thing I noticed is that goa trance is to music what horror movies are to the cinema (and I love it, I love horror movies BTW). Goa trance brings me unknown or unexplained fears because of some of the SFX, worrying melodies or agressive leads. Cluber music such as house, dance of electro is everything but that, it's younger, happy music made for fun, drinking, to chat up. I understand why some teenagers prefer those genres to goa trance. Not the same mood.
  11. Yeah, I suppose each social group has its related music genre. In the end, one could like any kind of music, but our taste is shaped as we integrate a social group (sometimes very early in life). Same for every type of things for which you may have a preference: dressing, cars, politics, church, food, etc... Social pressure, imitation and belonging to a group.
  12. The most common way to achieve it is through self oscillation of the filter, right?
  13. Agreed! I think it has to do with social pressure and group belonging... You like a music genre based on a group you want to belong to, to feel more secure inconciously.
  14. For some people yes. I know also people who like techno music, dance music (4/4 kick drum as well), but they utterly dislike goa music for some reason.
  15. Ever thought why we love this music, yet other people at most are indifferent to it or are irritated when hearing it as it it were just a melting pot or noise and parasites? Is it cultural or social? Any other idea? There's gotta be a reason...
  16. Yes, I do too (XV-5080), and soon with the Asia SR-JV-14 board (waiting for the seller to come by and deliver it to me). These SR-JV boards are a gold mine
  17. Not many people mention Ableton Live...I am a Cubase user but I started learning Ableton Live. I found the interface ok, but I had to stop because Ableton Live doesn't support sysex (other than with Max4Live), and this is a no-go for me, as I use sysex to control my external hardware. How could I control, say, an MKS-7 with no sysex support...In this regard, Cubase is wonderful with its device panels.
  18. Hum, this sounds cool I'm actually brainstorming to design the setting of my dream with several screens, the racks, the speakers, the console (if any), the pointing devices, the MIDI controllers, the keyboards, the master keyboard, the computer (almost forgot), the little synths...Lots of falks to arrange around one person
