I think Lyctum does excellent work. I noticed Lyctum on the day I listened to the Lightforce EP. Superb release. The Cassiopeia EP was also interesting, maybe more typic of the genre. Buy them and you'll see... So I crossed fingers for an album. "Tales Of The Universe" is a solid album. Not flawless as Nerso's album could be, but very good nonetheless. There are a few superb tracks like Euphoria, Little Earth, Minds Mystery, The Eclipse. Superb grooves, delicate melodies, cinematic sequences, kickass tracks structure is what Lyctum is about. I hope he does more soon but his sound has to remain inventive/fresh. I said the Balkans saved the Psytrance year 2011. Well, they also contributed greatly to 2012 so far!

I have Simon Posford's work in high esteem and respect. I started listening to Goatrance when I heard LSD on the radio. I had exhilarating (drugless) dancefloor experiences during live-acts of his between 96 and 99. I still consider most of his works (both albums, Eclipse compilation, Shpongles, Yeti, etc) as some of the most brillant electronic music ever released... ..BUT... ...I've explained on this board already a couple of times why I believe a third Hallucinogen album will never happen and you should just go and fantasize on music that's actually released. The main reason is the frigthening expectations people put in it. Another public reason is he finds it boring to work alone. And there's this state where you have quit for so long that you don't even know where to start, especially as you've aged and you're less motivated to start over a new leaf. And there's also his own perception on what he does when he tries. And he's human like many others (said politely)... Astral Projection are no different btw.

Super track surely. If you pitch it down a little, you get a track in the range of Acid Shell and Fractal Gate. Alien Protein CD is 68 minutes, it would fit on a CD now, but I'm not sure it was easy to press >74min CDs back in 1996. Ukiro or Draeke must know the story behind it, I don't remember. Search for "etnica--alien_protein_(br014)_lp_bonus-vinyl-1996-dl" on the Internet. I hate promoting piracy but that's probably the only way to find it in good quality.

Hi Yeah Optiloop are very good, their track on Carrots & Stick 2 has a great drive! With Iono, Iboga and Tesseract you gather 99% of the good stuff. Check also Yellow Sunshine Explosion (YSE) and Tribal Vision labels. A very serious newcomer is Lyctum with his album Tales from The Universe on YSE which follows a couple of superb EPs. Protonica has also very good tracks. Klopfgeister might also put you in a good mood On the Israeli side are Ritmo, Suntree, Ace Ventura, Rocky etc... Ah, Meller from Germany also have very good tracks. If you look back a few more years, I'd advise Native Radio and Tegma's first 2 albums.

Radi, this is not that bad, taking into account the fact you're quite new to music making. The production is decent but could go deeper. Your bass is too basic, which gives the flat impression. I see what you mean with AP but to show it better you'd need to make that production slicker and more "moving" The main meloy is entertaining but basically there's only one and even though there's a break, there's no real climax... ...So eventually, the track lacks some direction (that's where I agree with Richpa). Compared to loads of promos I receive, this is not ridiculous. I'd rank you amongst those who still need to progress at least one year before having serious stuff to showcase, but you are definitely *not* a lost cause. My advice would be to hang on, don't try to improve this track but start over a new leaf and produce other tracks. There will be waste, that's compulsory, if you want to progress. Keep up the good work.

All the old BlueRoom (KoxBox, Etnica...) and Twisted (Hallucinogen, Beast...) CDs are marvellous...but unfindable.

Back in the days goa or oldschool psy had no real meaning. But anyway... Oldschool psy: Slide, Sandman (not even sure), BOTFB, Quirk, Synchro, GMS, Nervasystem. The others are completly Goa (yes even Tim Schuldt IMO)

IMO it's like with audiophile people. You can always reach little better sound quality if you inject much more money in the process. First, a few reservations: - we're talking about different music styles, so it's impossible to really compare - a mastering depends a lot on the unmastered material in the first place. - a renowned studio might, under time constraints, apply presets only and the customer is ripped off. - on the opposite a very skilled ear with a modest equipment and sufficient time can probably achieve a wondrous mastering. - there are "trends" in the mastering scene too, and the sound "coloration" depends on the year it was done. These days masterings are very pumpy, and some freqs are popping! A Psytrance mastering costs between 0 and 500€ these days. The movie industry has thousand times more money to pour into mastering. So they can afford some incredibly equiped studios inhabited by an army of sound engineers, and inevitably the sound quality ends up being better (the music style set apart). Similarly, Euro Trance reaches a wider audience than Psytrance and a small part of its scene has a lot more money. These few big labels can probably afford a range of professional mastering studios (especially when we're talking about big names like A. Van Buuren) which bill them a few thousands euros and the result is warmer, more explosive, etc. But I don't think most Euro labels are so different than ours...

There are few tracks with vocals, this is an improvement. As for the "Epileptic-wobble-house-step" as my predecessor says, I wouldn't mind if this wasn't in so many tracks. Too much! The production sounds really good though.

Definitely worth buying.
