Hello hello, What a great day: exactly 10 years ago, Children, a 23 year old french man started Psynews. It was then called goatrance.free.fr, and the site first aimed at replacing a failing UK website called "TRiP" which was focused on reviewing Goa Trance music releases, on CD and vinyl. A group of enthusiasts from all over the world quickly joined Children and brought their own tributes by reviewing their own albums. A few months later, goatrance.free.fr got its own domain and became Psynews.org. You can check the full Psynews history. After lots of adventures, Psynews is still there, some of its early contributors are still very active in the scene. Thanks all for your support!

+1 I have to say the Eureka track we're talking about is way beyond what Antares used to produce. He passed to a higher level. So I could undertsand he's (re)working his album project with a different approach now, which lengthens the process...but for the better
-
OK we stop here. Got too many reports. @ deepXcode: calm down, breathe and try to undertsand what people want to tell you before replying. @ others: just respect each other and try to understand what people are asking. In the end we could make ends meet. But in other topics. No longer this one.
-
deepXcode is looking for help here into completing his list. His tastes are what they are. Maybe youo're less into that kind of tracks, but I would advise those who are to take part now. Please propose tracks.
-
From today, manual Admin validation of users is enabled again. This is meant at stopping the neverending bwale comeback.
-
You got the point !!!
-
Well as I explained this was not really tradition. If it had been only me "Daze" would have been SUNCD13. I used to be super Cartesian, but after knowing some artists better, I undertsand some are very sensitive and/or may have their reasons. What is it after all: a number. What importance? So if tomorrow some artist claims SUNCD99 for some reason, I'll give it.
-
It was discussed there. Well we know now there was no SUNCD13 in the middle. And the real reason is a mix of the 2 remaining possibilities. Now if some artist claims SUNCD13, I guess we'll give him. We filled some hole already.

Please read and respect these rules/guidelines before posting new reviews. HERE WE'RE TALKING ABOUT REVIEWS. NOT SIMPLE COMMENTS, NOT DISCUSSIONS, BUT REVIEWS ! 1. Please use the appropriate release year before posting . If you're posting in a "multiple year" thread (ie. 2002 - 1998) then specify the release year in the thread title. 2. If you’re an artist / label that wants to promote a new release please use the “Promos” group and not this one! ANY promos found in the reviews section will be moved. 3. This section is for psytrance reviews and psytrance related genres reviews only! If you want to discuss the best releases this year, what albums should be considered “classics”, the reviews section layout, the quality of reviews, the latest Tool release, want to request a review, etc. etc., then please use the General or Off-Topic sections of the forum!!! This is intended for psytrance music and subgenres only so no reviews of parties or other music genres. A bigger tolerance will be allowed for old stuff (stuff released before 96) since back then there wasn't an "official definition" of psytrance. 4. BEFORE posting a new review, check if a review of the album hasn’t already been written. If it’s the case then write your review in the already existing thread and do NOT open a new one! Finding older topics should be easy, use the “Search” function: type part or the whole album title and don’t forget to limit the search to the subforum of the year you want to post in. If you're starting a new thread for a compilation then you should ALWAYS write the title under the format : "V/A - Name of comp". So that all the compilations will be easier to find. So do NOT start a topic with "VA" (no "/" between the V and the A) or "V/A :" (":" instead of "-"), "VA Name of Comp" (no "-" between the V/A and the name) etc. 5. When opening a new thread put the name of the album and artist in the topic title and make sure it doesn’t have any typos (or else the search function won’t work). If you made a mistake, you can easily re-edit the title by using the “Edit” button at the end of your post, if that function is not working, then report your topic to moderators asking to correct the typos. 6. Please say WHY you like/dislike an album and don’t write childish one-phrase reviews like “This is a killer release!! 10/10!” or “This sucks. 0/10”. Reviews like that are not very informative and don’t do much except annoy others who are looking for full reviews … Also, if you have received an album as a promo directly from the artist/label try not to be an ass-licker in the review… most of the time it shows and it’s VERY annoying not to mention that in the long run your credibility as an objective reviewer will be tarnished. 7. Personal grudges against artists or reviewers are not welcomed and will be deleted and might lead to moderation so try to use your brain before posting. If you have anything to say to the artist or another reviewer you can always PM (Private Message) or e-mail them. 8. It would be nice that whenever someone opens a new thread for a review they start with the full album stats (pic of the cover, track names, label, release date, etc.). 9. We advise and ask you not to write reviews for samples of releases. It's best if you post in the Reviews section after having listened to the whole release. Happy reviewing smile.gif and as always, suggestions are welcome (as long as you post them in this thread and don't open a new one) (Text written by Moni, just adding it to this subforum) /mars

Well, I do it professionally too. I'm sorting things out, I have a transactional issue and a contextpaht issue, but all should be online within a couple of days.
-
I've been running this board for 10 years, and I could deal with that. And I can also detect the measly attempts at masking a Godwin point with a smiley. What's the point in coming back every other week knowing you'll be banned as usual, Mr. bwhale?
-
No, I don't think so. This Bestof can be seen as an enjoyable exercise where people elect (not dictate) what Psytrance and Ambient MUSIC touched them the most last year. I don't really care about the format and the Psynews members are not that political. The point is NOT to have an endless inteligentsia-like discussion about it. This is just boring. "Revolution"...what the hell are you talking about? Who's misguided? Hey, this is Psytrance here! <50000 people in the world know what it is! Defining "limits" to what should be in and out will lead to more questionings, then other people will argue about the definitions of the very terms we use, and we'll get to a problem with an infinite complexity...whose input variables will already have changed in a year from now. In other words, it's the perfect way to scrap -to use your term- the BestOf thing. I don't want yet-another-no-go-leading-to-less-activity-in-the-scene. This is counterproductive. I want action and fun. Anyway I don't have an infinite amount of time and resources to dedicate to it, but if you wanna go this direction, just do it. Open a thread and go ask "how could we define a Psytrance release?". I bet on the Godwin point before page 3.

Artist: Lemonchill Date: 09-12-25 By: Morpheus Music Interview posted here with permision of the artist. The original inteview with photos may be seen there. 1) Can you tell us a bit about how you initially came to be a musician? Well i became a musician "accidentally", my sister worked at a music collage called:"bpm music" they teach people sound and how to create electronic music. she said i have to try it and since i always loved music i thought this might be a good experience. i finished my study there at 2005 and a two years later released my first album called:"sentant". 2) How did the Lemonchill project get started? After finishing my studies at bpm music collage i worked a lot at my home studio to get more experience until i felt i am good enough to try to release my songs. the name lemonchill came to my mind while driving with a good friend he said :" why not call yourself "lemonchill" it is a l liquor that after you drink it you get a good "hi" sensation but quickly after that "hi" sensation disappears, so i thought about it and decided this might be a cool name for me. 3) Your debut album Sentant preceded the current Journey Through an Electric Garden – how do you feel that album was received? Well there is an interesting story behind my first album "sentnat" it was created after a very intense and a very bad relationship i had with a girl, so after that i sat at my studio and wanted to "express" what i felt at that time though music. i guess that is why i called that album"sentant" which means feelings in french. after that album was released i got good reactions from listeners all around the globe. 4) What were your goals in beginning the Journey album? My goals? hmm... well make this album more successful then the previous one for start, and still not sound too commercial at the same time. but also i wanted to take a different direction this album "journey through an electric garden" is more minimal more upbeat then the previous album and i am very happy with the final result. this album has a more "90s" vibe and it can be related to acts such as :the orb, future sound of london, orbital, banco de gaia. 5) How would you describe the sound of Journey in comparison to Sentant? I think the album "journey through an electric garden" has a better sound that is obvious. i used new equipment on this album and i think people that listened to it can hear a big difference with the sound compered to my previous album. 6) What are your recording methods – how do you go about making your music? Usually i try to "express" my thoughts and feelings and events in my life through music, so almost very song i created has a unique atmosphere and a story behind it. about my recording methods i like to work alone although for my new upcoming album i started to work with an artist named feel from Greece it is the first time ever i collaborated with another artist and the result is very good. when i work in my studio making music i completely "shut" myself from exterior world, i forget what time it is what day it is i even forget to eat and sleep because i am so into creating music. 7) What is your recording environment like? My home studio consists from: Adam a6 monitors, rme dhsp sound card, sennheiserr headphones, monster cables and the nuendo music program i use. i don't like to buy or get the newest hardware and software in the market i think using what you feel makes the best sound and effects you love is good as long as you know how to use it to the max. 8) What influences your project – both sonically and visually? Hmm... hard to describe visually it can be from a beautiful girl i saw walking the street to a peaceful park i went to or just by spending time at the beach. Sonically i like to hear many music genres from classic music like Mozart and Bach to now days electronic music, i also like a lot of 80s music and also 70s. i like the "classic electronic" sound and artists from kraftwork to jean Micheal jarre. 9) You have another album due soon – what has resulted in this burst of releases in 2009? Well my first album "sentant" was originally released on 2007 as a digital release only and only recently released as a cd too. since then i worked on the album journey through an electric garden and this album has been released a few months ago. I am currently working on another remix album set to be released on cyberset records too next year.it is a also a remix album but this time consists of more upbeat remixs in the progressive house and trance genre, and like i mentioned before it has a first time collaboration between me and an artist named feel from Greece. the album will also feature a singer named hideyo blackmoon from japan it is the first time ever i used a live singer for one of my songs and i like the result. 10) Would you mind giving us some insight into the forthcoming Sleeping With Giants? The new album called: "sleeping with giants" is a remix album consists of remixes made for my songs by artists such as: zero cult, side liner, terra nine, chronos, mindwave, limbo and hol baumann. i only contribute one remix it is a new version i made for the track :"Adam and eve".

Bah, 5 pages in total. The hardest part is feeding the database with all releases. I have also problems having this mini bestof website and the suntrip website run on the same server for some dumb technical reason. I4ve been struggling to make it to work all day, almost there..be patient.
-
Oh sure, that was foreseen, but I may not have all of them, it's harder to find them all than just copying what was available on saikosounds. I don't even think it's needed to separate them anymore. I believe the barrier between CD/USB and downloads has shattered and the one between free and non-free is disappearing too. However, should there be a difference between those who release their own music for free, and those going through a free/digital label/platform like Ektoplazm? What's the limit between "amateur" and "pro" now? Yes people can change their mind as much as they want:) But I haven't foreseen anything with real-time results for everyone to see. They will only be available after the session has ended. Maybe it would be cool if the system posted on this thread your votes as they are submitted. Maybe not. Let's keep it simple for now. After this session we'll see what worked and what didn't and I'll update the code accotdingly.
-
I second that

I hadn't thought about this. Good point.

If I wanted to discourage him, I'd have erased this thread. I banned him to learn him manners. Elysium was trying to tell him the above, to ask him get a little hindsight, and the guy replied with insults. You can't see it because I cleaned it up. I just applied the forum rules when you think about it. Anyhow I didn't close the thread, and I'm still waiting for the other party to tell his part of the story!

Hello everyone. For a few years now, a couple of very courageous members compiled your best-of selections every year and it was quite a pain. I made apromise months ago to lift that burden and make the process easier for everyone. That was quite a challenge, but I finished coding and testing it this morning. It's rough but good enough for us and there is space for improvmeent in the following years. It's finally online since this morning: http://www.psynews.org:2010/bestof/ Sorry it's on an exotic port, but it was impossible to make it work on the default http port with the other apps on that server. It will probably not respond from your workplace if there's a proxy/firewall, but it will work from your home. Please PM or write me if you encounter any bugs. The same goes if you want me to add some missing release (format: title [label] + release month if available) Feedback on the application experience is appreciated too. Thanks for your patience. mars / psynews

OK dude, look. 1) No need to use red/bold and use such a strong language in your title. I adapted that. Were reponsible of the content posted here towards the French law you know. 2) Isratrance related topic: http://forum.isratrance.com/where-is-frozen-ghost-return-the-money-you-stole/page3/ 3) That's true there are lots of unreliable artists (and even more unreliable promoters) out there. We all have stories to tell, most are related to drugs and/or money. Whether we choose to disclose them or not is everyone's responsibility. 4) As Elysium said, you better have some grounding cause maybe the guy is really badly sick!! But maybe what you're trying to do is warn other promoters. Ok you did it. Now, despite all your frustration, which we can understand, you didn't have the right to insult anyone, neither to spam the board. I just cleaned up the mess. And you're banned. But I'm letting the topic open, unless it gets out of control. 5) The way the story is presented, the medical thing looks like an excuse for withdrawing. But I'm interested in knowing both sides of the story. So Frozen Ghost and his manager are kindly invited here to express their view in a polite manner. Not doing so would just tend to confirm Transgenic story, right? Transgenic, puedes me escribir sobre mars@psynews.org si lo quieres. No intento a ahogar la discusion pero pienso que no lo haces de la mejor mañera. Aqui es una plaza publica y tenemos que prestarle atencion.

There are. I took ALL releases, CD or Web. I just saw this: http://www.psynews.org/forums/index.php?/topic/57876-top-10-albums-of-the-00s/ And it makes me think we should definitely organize a best-of for the last 10 years on top of the 2009 best-of. It's a lot more work for me to find and put in the database all the releases for 10 years (don't ask how I4ll do that), so we won't be able to vote right away, but I could launch it during January. Does that soound like a good idea?

moved to music promotion
