  1. I dont know the answers so I guess I can participate. Only answer 6 is missing. After some digging I found : Lindsay Edwards She participated in the group Tin Tin Out for the "We Like To Party (The Vengabus) (Tin Tin Out Remix)" on some obscure promo. And on the other hand she participated in the group Innersphere which appears on Matsurythm 1. That was a tricky one Jos, poor students of yours !
  2. WARNING !!! TWO minute extracts are online : http://www.suntriprecords.com/pages/releases/SUNCD10/
  3. Short extracts are already available on Arabesque website: http://tinyurl.com/2fn8o9 Check them out !!!!
  4. these collaborations Filteria vs Ethereal Merrow vs Khetzal would make my day !
  5. I miss Erez too, so much. If he wanted, he could make all the current Psy movement look completely ridiculous compoared to his creations. If he prefers earning big bucks and coping Duvdev horrible singing night after night, that's his problem. Too bad still.
  6. I don't remember for sure as I was quite young, but it was either Technotronic - Pump up the Jam or Black Box - Ride on Time, both in late 1989 ! Goa came in 95 after techno-house, dance, hardcore, trancecore, prodigy, etc...
  7. The tracklist looks complete as of tonight ! Check the 1st post. Thanks to the artists for their hard work !!! We're very very sorry for those who badly wanted to be in it, worked hard too, and did not make it. We wanted a special artistic line there, that's why we got though even on superb tracks. Buuuuut...maybe they will have a second chance, later héhéhé
  8. 1. Do you download music from the web? Any kind of music. How much? How often? Yes. LOTS, I mean...LOTS. Everyday. And you know what ? I buy everything I like. 2. Do you download specifically Psytrance releases? Yes 95% of it. 4% more are other electronic musics, 1% is other kinds of music. 3. Do you think that downloading (and any other forms of piracy) really hurt the music industry? Yes. But it was just a consequence. Just look at this fact: the production cost for one cd is 3 euro/cd and it's sold 18 euro minimum in a big shop like Virgin/Fnac. I understand every part of the music indusry chain takes its part, but fact is it could be possible to sell the same cd for 12 euro in the same store and the store would still make profit. Another aspect: young people don't make a living, they rely on what their parents give them, nevertheless, they are the range of people the most interested in musics in general and the most likely to buy it. Until 15 my parents would give me 30 euros a month to survive. Until 20 I got 75 euors a month. And I was lucky to have that much. I doubt nowadays, 16-20 year old youngsters get 100 euro per month ! Let's look at the monthly expenses of an average wealthy european : - pens / papers / photocopies for school (10 euros) - 2 cinema entrances (17 euro) - lunches (20 euro with the help of the school/university, or parents pay for them) - phone (25 euros restricting him/herself a looot) - disco entrances (20 euros for 2 week ends or 1 with a boy/girlfriend) - drinks with friends or extras like some cloth (30 euros) TOTAL: 122 euro, or ~100 if parents pay for the lunches for example How can this 15-25 year old young buy any 18 euro cd in these conditions ??? How can he even be tempted to buy a cd and renounce going out with his friends when he can have the same cd thanks to the internet connection of their parents ? How can majors be so blind as not to understand that ? Yeah they do know but they prefer play with the fear factor and ask the RIAA to put some order. At the same time they cry their profits are dropping. Don't make a mistake. They still make a lot of profit. They only make less than before. How about older people ? Waht % of the cds do they buy ? I don't know and if anyone knows, pease tell. However, I'm sorry to notice the market is not aiming at them. Most of the music advertised (I didn't say released) these days is about one-shot bands just ouf of some reality TV singing academy show, or trendy groups with a rebel look. 30-60 year old people don't recgnize themselves there. What do they do then ? they download on the internet and test the music (before they can buy it), because there is no other way of having an idea of the music that suits them. Have you heard about the fact less and less families make ends meet ? Have you heard about this huge financial crisis that's preparing, what if they cannot afford it ? They keep on downloading. How about old people (60-90) ? There is simply no music for them. Not even released. They don't download anyway, the Internet is unknown territory for them. Fact is majors target audiences that can't afford prices of their products !!!! I have a theory: if cds were cheaper, they would sell better. I'm taking the risk of being answered this is a too simplistic theory "because in nowaday's society everything has grown incredibly intricate and not a single thing can acount of society phenomenon blablabla". Bullshit ! It's the most mean way of lulling people and ask them not to think by themselves. 4. Do you think that downloading (and any other forms of piracy) really hurt the Psytrance industry? No. Psytrancers have been exchanging DAT's and CD's way long before the mp3 wave. Prices remain reasonable in most shops and online shops. But Psytrance cds don't reach big shops like Virgin anymore. So it's hard to catch a new audience, the scene remains small, and labels press low volumes no matter what. 5. Would you like a world that every new album/comp would be released only in the web? No because I like to have the real thing in my hands. I'm not interested in a one-shot license for a stream of bytes. There is also the problem of licensing and sublicensing in the digital distrib industry, where profits dillute to the infinite and labels earn even less than before.

    MEEO

Yeah it sounds different from the rest at least. It reminded me a bit of "Bandit - Looking for the Element" (2001) because of some instruments and rythmics used. But I prefer this one better
  10. All right, that was a good subject of discussion. Had the artist participated more, it would have been more dynamizing Still....too bad
  11. Thanks Jon. What I secretely expected was that some dudes out there would dare to say "ok i'll contact the right owner and see what he says" What I more secretely expected was the owner would say "ok, anyway it was planned to be released as a CD in the first place, and as long as it's just for the sake of a better mastering and non-profit, I'm fine with it". What I even more secretely expected was that some dudes out there would dare to say "ok, even for non-profit, I'm ready to take the risk, be fully transparent to the artist, spend a lot of time and work, and sell this album to the happy few who wanted it". This was more about making Psynews more than a single forum, but something more collaborative, much like in the begining. I wouldn't have got involved more than into advice & contact giving. With Psynews backing it, money wouldnt have ben a real problem (and remember Psynews is non-profit too). Strydr: Nah, with the mp3s we have we can't get a better mastering. With some uncompressed/unprocessed wavs, believe me, I know someone who can make it sound killlah.
  12. This is about Psytrance, so this goes to the General forum
  13. As for classic Goa, I would have recommended the same as the first 3 people that replied. Etnica/Pleiadians Transwave Total Eclipse Oforia/Tandu X-Dream Astral Projection Miranda/Ominus MFG Asia 2001 Shakta You have them, you have most of the golden era.
  14. Ah here's the main person to this affair. Hello, hello. Title: done, sorry Since it all started with this question "why was it not released on cd", thanks for replying. As for the rest, it was not about making money, really, but rather thinking about having "the real thing" with a "real mastering" that deserves its place in a Goa collection. The problem is I'm not sure it would be convenient, or if you would approve to a limited "promo" pressing with professional mastering, just for the pleasure of a few people to have it in their hands. I tried to show it wouldn't be such a risk to do it, uner certain conditions, and was wondering if many people from here would like the idea or would like to get involved. It doesn't seem so until now and it's a shame because the cd deserves it ! I added a poll btw...really curious.
  15. I don't agree and I would like to mitigate some things. I said : And later: When I mentioned added value, it meant a new mastering, cause this release definitely needs it. Also Suntrip would never be involved in such an enterprise. On the contrary, I mentioned a very simplified release process cutting all possible costs to reach a very low break even situation (usually a break even on a 1000 copies print Goa album is > 500 copies sold, here 140). For your information, we manage to sell > 100 copies of every Suntrip release, just out of hand, just in Belgium! It's not so hard to sell 140 copies and reach a break even when you know where Goa addict people are. Not mentioning our releases are always out on p2p's the same day they are released in the stores (even earlier sometimes). Based on that I think a 500 copies pressing wouldn't be a loss of money and I would recommend a serious poll here on psynews or on psychedelic.be to know what to expect. Anyway this is all theoretical and would need people of good will to make it happen.
  16. I must add some little things : 7) you can add 150 euros for shiping the pressed cds from the factory to your place 8) I didn't count any artist fee, neither advertising costs (woudln't be convenient on an out of hand model without a catnr, etc)........... 9) If you're distributed you'll get 6.2 euros / cd sold and if you're selling out of hand or just yourself you can get an appealing price at 10 euros. So if you do the accountancy over 500 cds, the global cost is 1400 euros and you should sell 140 out of hand (that is, not officially distributed, and i believe is the good economic model on such low volumes and regarding issues in 1) and 2)) to reach a break even situation. Low you'd say ? Yeah all the more as Psynews has a lot of Goa fans, and there are still places where one can sell such cds (Belgium, Sweden, Canada, Israel...). But there are risks too...oh yeahhh (people saying they'll buy and eventually don't, bad online advertisement, unexpected costs, juridic issues...) Now if some of you guys wanna start such an enterprise, as a Goa fan, I'm 100% enthusiastic, and i'd be ready to collaborate a lot from my Suntrip knowledge (mastering/pressing contacts) without involving the company itself, and provide with everything needed (google docs, calendar, emails infrastructure and mailing lists on the Psynews backend). But don't ask me to help more if you see what I mean. I think Basilisk also has a mine of infos to help in such enterprise. Who would be entrepreneur enough to do the hardest step, step 1) ???
  17. We can take this topic on a theoretical point of view (although I would really like to have this album properly mastered on a real cd in my collection). Let me stress that I'm wirting this as a Psynews member with some knowledge of releasing constraints, NOT as the Suntrip CEO. Since everyone can download this release now, some pressing would only interest a few people, or those looking for some added value (remastering is an obvious one). 1) Since Metapsy looks dead now, the first matter would be to know who owns the tracks' rights and whether the owner would agree on releasing this. This is surely a delicate matter. 2) Distribution is imo impossible to organize because A ) everyone can download B ) because there is no more label to interface with the distributor. So, assuming 1) is fulfilled, an unofficial release - juridically only as a promo, without any cat number - could be sold on a non-profit business model and on a small amount of copies. Psynews.org for example can give it a bare juridic legality, just like Metapsychic could, these are the same kind of structures. But this is not important. "Promos" are legally tied to almost nothing. 3) there is artwork (at least partial). Cost: 0. 4) Mastering would cost between 350 and 400 euros. 5) Pressing depends entirely on the number of copies pressed and the degree of finishing (shrinnk wrap or not, number of colors on the cover/cd, clear jewel case or not or digipak, etc. The cheapest would be jewel case, and let's say with shrink wrap cause there are some maniacs: 1000 copies cost 925 euros / 500 copies 870 euros / 200 copies 670 euros / 100 copies 600 euros. Yeah fixed costs are huge that's why pressing small quantities still have a high price. 6) Now Psynews is the place for this, ensure 1) is fulfilled and everyone agrees, test how many people ould buy with a poll, extrapolate, open a specific paypal account for that for example, let people order and pay, then go to the press and send each order
  18. I moved several messages here from to http://www.psynews.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=50244 for further discussion about pressing this CD or not. I could maybe add some infos on costs and work needed, and former Metapsy guys of Minsphere himself could also comment on the feasability...see you there
  19. I'm opening this thread following that one : http://www.psynews.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=50210 Jon Cocco, Sideeffect, Ormion and I agreed this album should be reelased on cd. I thought this was a nice matter of discussion.
  20. My 2 cents: Make it more a story and less a few sequences stuck together. Give it some flow. Refine your instruments. It's already got some cool parts but it can be much better !
  21. He's some shy guy from France who made his first track for some time and it appeaed it was a masterpiece ! http://www.myspace.com/ajnasound Else I updated the tracklist on the first page, with Artfact303 whose track is mindblowing. This relates to that http://www.psynews.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=49990
  22. In my opinion "Psychedelic" is mainly a personal thing as it deals with the psychism of the one who's listening. From Psy music I expect to have emotions, be surprised, like in every for of art. I also expect to experiece pleasure out of it, feel that urge to dance and honour the music as it's flowing around me. And I expect its structure to have some repetitive or hypnotic or melodic aspects that make me detach one way or another from what's happening around me. Without drugs of course. I call some music psychedelic when I close my eyes listening to it and can see a beautiful landscape opening on some sunset, when I have the feeling of a very pesent and unreachable horizon, when clouds talk to me, when, despite the vast area beneath me, I feel I'm moving in a corridor and feel like the walls are breathing with me and with the music. I may still be dancing, yet my brain informs me I'm walking on top of the clouds and the sun smiles watching it. My body and my spirit have gone two ways. This is psychedelic. Notice I used "mainly" in my first sentence. Have you ever been in a party where all looks so simple, when your love or friends are here, you're dancing under the sun, everyone is smiling with you and you feel like all of you are uniting your energies and you're just one body dancing. The whole dancefloor feels that communion has something to do with infinity and everyone is begging for the track to never end, so that it lasts forever. This communion is another aspect of what I call psychedelic. Take the Dragonfly compilation "The technical use of sound in magick". It's 100% full of these dimensional catapults. Take the track nr6, "Nucleus- Superluminal". It has both aspects I described before. If you're an oldschool DJ, and have the chance to play at 1PM at some party next summer, just spin it and watch the dancefloor ! http://www.discogs.com/release/88091 Sure you can have such experiences with LSD, any psychotropic drug, being in love, or just very tired. Then, some filters are disabled in your mind and you're more easily touched with the music, events and people around you, but this is only the amplification of what I described above. IF you have to take drugs to feel something, then it's not psychedelic. In that case drugs crops and amplifies for you the little amount of subtility of the music. Want a parallel ? OK, usually anyone can figure lots of things when looking at the nature, especially the clouds. Anytime, anyone would guess a new shape every 30 seconds in any cloud. Now check that: http://www.discogs.com/viewimages?what=R&obid=66694 Normally you'd think this is an awful pile of metal in the middle of the landscape. Under LSD you can feel its symetry and the fractalism reinforcements are giving. Great....I prefer the real stuff with a clean head. Greetings to strydr for the image in his signature that inspired me.
  23. My little finger tells me some rework of it is gonna be released on the cd1 of some forthcoming compilation I've heard of
