Yippy! I have an opinion on music I haven't yet listened and probably never will again! Seriously though, psyreviews has always been good for a good number of chuckles and laughs and I'm glad the email-service is working again. Damion is - yes - a funny cunt.

first one, no doubt. highly psychedelic not even to mention the nostalgia involved...
-
Yup, everything is still available. Problem was (is) I would like to trade my cds and preferably for something chill-ish. If you got something to offer: please do! Just propose something... I've got an open mind!

What music are you listening to right now?

Really, really awesome tracks of the year 2006
Snapinho replied to traveller's topic in General Psytrance
very cheesy, imo. some parts are quite ok, but some of those vocal samples just... I dunno... they can truly ruin my day!! -
I don't get it. Are there two cds? I only have the mystical experiences/mystery of the yeti double cd and thought I had them all... couldnt find another album on discogs either? What are you guys then talking about, MOTY 1 and 2? The tracks?

Comment on discogs says: So maybe we should get it? Seems like I have most of FSOL's stuff as well... or have I overlooked something? Also I suggest you get PNG Translations: there's some tracks in there that I defintely like a lot and even put in my sets from time to time. Recognizable, yet not too cliché -

Yup! Lemme see... I think there's just one missing. I've got: Lifeforms and Cascade off Lifeforms. We Have Explosive, PNG Translations, My Kingdom. I think I only need Expander and Far Out Son of Lung and the Ramblings of a Madman. Gotta have em all! -

Ok, in a vain attempt to put some spice into this discussion, let me explain why I think this is not a purely negative one and why I agree to some of the points made. First of all: it took me a while to realize what psychill (or sometimes psybient) stands for. It doesn't really matter though, but it's a widely used name and most people will understand what it stands for. For me: psychedelic chillout can stand for a lot of things. I mean, there's a lot of differences between the Future Sound of London, Ozric Tentacles, Ooze, Boards of Canada, Global Communication, Pink Floyd and Zenzile, but I'd consider all of them psychedelic chillout. Things they have in common are: they're not too upbeat, they move me emotionally and 'spiritually', take me too deeper regions of musical appreciation, states of consciousness and surprise me! They explore the unknown, they do things to me! And of course, any kind of musical taste is highly subjective, but on an objective level I think we can agree that a lot of the developments in 'pschill' as a genre have seen the usage of similar samples, instruments, sounds, progression and build in tracks. And well, at least for me it works like this: if a lot of tracks start sounding similar, they start to lose their 'psychedelic' effect on me. If I can't be surprised anymore, then there's not much fun to be gained anymore. That's my main complaint about psychill these days. I did like some recent releases though, but I also have to admit that my taste is evolving towards a somewhat more minimalistic psychedelic style. The art of silence is very suggestive! And even the most recent psychill albums that I did like were a little full of sounds... think Capsula, Androcell, Slack Baba. All very good, but a little too rich... But that's just me! Anyway, I don't think that exploring new styles and genres for the sake of exploring new types of music is a necessity. But I do feel that sometimes one needs to look across borders to be able to access new sources of creativity, instead of wanting to get on the bandwagon and join everybody else. I mean... originality is worth something too! I hope I got my points across. And I hope people will at least come with some arguments why they agree or do not agree with me. Discussion is good

I hate to say it. But. Psynews sucks. every F**king discussion ends up the same. It's really tiring. Cut the crap, for gods sake. Radi: STFU about hallucinogen. Everyone else: STFU about radi's hallucinogen remarks. My god. Seriously, I think it's bloody annoying. Really.

True, but I didn't say that... It was not towards you personally, but as a comment in general (hehe, ok, got me there) because it always goes back to that. You are right about the fact that it could be said about any genre, but the point was mainly that psychill didnt' seem to be evolving lately. Crappy tracks are released even when there is a lot of progression, so that doesn't say anything, IMO.

Yeah, and then you can just as well shut up and stop saying anything about anything. Why is that every time someone is being critical there's lots of other people telling him to stop being negative? Imho it's very healthy to be critical. And no, criticism is not absolute and neither is this thread's title meant to be. I think. I mean: "psychill sucks" doesn't mean that all psychill sucks, but it is primarily meant to say what aspects of psychill suck. Sounds reasonable to me? If you ask me, comments like the above don't add anything, are too generalistic to mean anything and spoil a good and healthy discussion.

Dude, your girlfriend must be one big disappointment. I feel for you man...

do you listen to oldschool psychedelic trance?
Snapinho replied to radi6404's topic in General Psytrance
And I am the walrussss.. -
Hahaha, yeah, that's my main source of irritation. Allow me to quote myself: this album is a good example of what's wrong with psychill these days.
-
what a coincidence. mine too!
-
Of course there were, that's what the dots stand for. But yes, it has gotten stale, most acts seem to have run out of creativity. We need new influences! More crossover, more eclecticism! Look the other way, check out some funk, hiphop, psychedelic rock, breakbeats, reggae, soul, clicks and cuts, turntablism, atmospheric stuff, whatever. But please: innovate!!

and I guess six at Full Moon 2006. Never saw you there Pr0fane... but you played twice, right?
