Downbeat Liquid Vol. 1 - Chillcode CHILLCD006
Snapinho replied to chillcode's topic in Artist News and Labels announcements
Huh, are there ten or eleven tracks on this album? My download says 10, psyshop says ten and so does saikosounds... No entheogenic on this one any more? And fuck me if Jong didnt start making a nice dubby track and then screwed it by regurgitating the same old chewed up indian woman, who accidently also brought along her percussionist friends... not very original, goddammit!! I though we would have passed this stage already! Anyway, besides that it sure sounds nice 'n dandy -
Wow, this morning there was a review in my regular morning paper and it got 4 out of 5 stars. Pretty good, I'd say and the review was spot on, too. Impressive!

Well, I really don't dig it anymore. There's nothing deep in it that I can find, it does sorta give the feeling that it does but when you listen to it more times, you can see it's mostly superficial. At least that was my experience, don't wanna spoil your fun

Hell yeah! Went to a hiphop show last night, by what now seems to be Hollands most favorite crew. Despite the fact that they're really not commercial, i.e. they never appear in whatever show on dutch television, they are huge! This was further illustrated by the fact that they almost filled the bigger room of the two in the venue where I used to work... A lot of people and a great show! It has been a while since I stood in the middle of the pit during most of the concert, but this was the time. Nice! Great vibe and great show, hiphop was my first love and although I've seen these guys numerous times already, they have never disappointed me. For who cares, I'm talking about 'Opgezwolle'...

Very cheap deal, a lot of albums to select from and they weren't _that_ slow in sending me the stuff. All cds came without jewel cases, but I don't really mind (even though I didn't remember reading it anywhere). They misplaced one cd, but answered my email within the day and refunded the money to my secondspin account (plus I could keep the other cd). Other bonus was that I received the Orbital double album (http://www.discogs.com/release/72723) instead of the one-cd version of In Sides. Big surprise! Shipping was free, due to a coupon DP had posted. Very positive feeling about them, I'm almost certain I will be shopping with them again!

Wait, this is just volume 1! How is anyone gonna buy a second volume when the first one is all you will ever need? Must say: it's one hell of an album. The whole booklet is a scientific story about the origins and backgrounds of this specific form of music, done by the International Centre for Comparative Sound. Cool!

Dunno 'bout t'day. Yesterday it was Orbital - Out there somewhere parts 1 and 2. Had them in my head all day, trying to whistle the melodies. Sounded stupid, but felt good inside!

OOOD - 'Free Range' is complete!
Snapinho replied to Colin OOOD's topic in Artist News and Labels announcements
^ Mr. FrozenRealm here just passed this link my way and I have to admit (I hate walking in line with all these other OOOD-groupies, groovies, grouvies?) that I like it a lot. Funky, fresh, groovy, funny and booty-shaking. Haven't heard any psytrance in a long time, really listened I mean, but this is good! -
yay for that remark! and fyi: those artists were indeed foldered under idmbient at my computer, hehe...
-
Nah, my was more meant to indicate that Trentemollers not really that idm to me, but then again, I hate discussions about genres, so forget my comments! Instead, rather help me on where to get this!
-
Yeah, I've heard Slater play good sets too! And ehm.. the only one that I really remember from this festivalsummer was Kasey Taylor. Awesome set by the-one-known-as-the-drugs-dwarf.

Hehe, as I expected Astro Cortex makes all other replies unnecessary. The man, the knowledge.. Small q: would you guys consider stuff like the Higher Intelligence Agency, Biosphere, Monolake etc. also ambient? Personally I do, although it's by no means as 'ambient' as are Pete Namlook and his fellow ambiendelicioners... what do you reckon? If not, under what name or category would you label those?
-
Order from Secondspin.com came in (once again, thanks DP) but with one big flaw... Autechre - Basscad EP instead of Amber which I ordered. Boo! Mr. Oizo - Analog Worms Attack VA - High Priests of Electronic Dub VA - Feed your Head 3 VA - Theory of Evolution VA - The Only Blip Hop Record You Will Ever Need what an awesome name for a record! I didnt own even one bliphop record so after this one I will need no others. Hooray!

indeed.

Psychedelics and their influence on postmodernism
Snapinho replied to Trolsk's topic in General Psytrance
Now people, this does deserve a bump. In my own interest, by the way, but nevertheless it deserves a bump. Point is: I am trying to decide what I'm gonna write my master's thesis about. And well.. you know, with theses it's always the same problem: to try and find a good subject. I've been doing a lot of reading about psychedelics (I always have) and the main problem is now that I am totally forgetting what philosophical approach it needs to have. Because, I am studying philosophy.. And that seems to be somewhat 'important'. Boo! Still, I'd love some ideas, mainly around the 'practical philosophical' side of things; cultural and social philosophy. Help me get inspiration! If you do manage to light in spark in my faintly illuminated academic brain, you'll be thanked in my fore (or after?)word! Maybe even in both! -
First of all: I think no one here said Orbital weren't good. They rock ass! However, do not compare 'em to FSOL. It's just not fair. And ehm: maybe you meant: the girl with the sun in her head?
-
yay, I can totally second that in every aspect you just mentioned. Including the very very stoned bit. Afterwards I really wanted to buy a record but as I was thinking about whether they had plastic bags for the vinyl (I was worried because it was raining outside) it took me forever cause I couldnt make up my mind... So I ended up sitting in a chair, 5 metres away from the store, just looking at them packing up their stuff, leaving and thinking: fuck I really should buy a record now... Needless to say: they left and I didn't have a record. But! The show was very good indeed, wonderful musicians, extremely relaxed atmosphere. Go see them indeed, people!

I bet you bet I am!

So! I wanted to do this thread for a long time already and here it finally is! I've always been going to gigs, shows, concerts whatever. Be it hiphop, reggae, dub-nights, electronic stuff, I've been there and done that. And I still can't get enough of it, whenever there's something in town that's supposed to be good, I go. It does help that I used to work at a cultural centre where a lot of shows happen. A lot of classical stuff with boring people, but also the likes of Eek-a-Mouse, Cypress Hill and even my hero KRS One! Ok, here goes. Last night Amon Tobin came to town! The place was sold out pretty soon but luckily I had bought tickets before. He did a show of some hour and a half, not really live at all and according to NT he played only one of his own songs. The tempo-changes were really great, I love how he does that, going from triphop to breaks to dubby to drum 'n bass. And he really knows how to get the crowd moving: good show! Towards the end it was mostly drum 'n bass and less jazzyy/groovy... which kinda was a pity but on the other hand it was very danceable. Good show, not excellent but I'm happy I saw him and very 7 euros it was a bargain. Even the beer got cheaper, €1,25! Alrighty, let me hear what you guys saw and heard!

I think I would've preferred lying on my back in the grass, head full of acid, and just listening... But it was still a good set: mostly dancable mixes, of which little fluffy clouds and a huge evergrowing... stood out most, to me. But that's probably cause I'm not too familiar with their Okie Dokie minimal side. A lot of it was danceable and the mixture of live and dj was really original as well. But well, it was more of a concert than a party or a listeningsession, I guess.. Different but still nice! It was really busy inside cause a lot of people came to see the Orb. Nevertheless: it didn't make a lifelong-lasting impression on me, to be honest. I wish it was otherwise, but oh well.. I had a good time anyway. But as I said; I prefer lying on the grass, tripping and just listening and enjoying.

Ha! First of all: let me apologize for asking for more recommendations when I don't even have time to check the cds I receive in the mail. Horrible, horrible. I've downloaded some of your recommendations, but not nearly enough and to that I must add that I haven't been at home long enough to listen to anything. It sucks big time. Really, it does. I wish I had a subject for my thesis so I could sit behind a computer, pretending to be working but in fact paying more attention to the music I'm listening. Boo for me! Alrighty, in a few hours I'm going home, downloading your stuff (are they songs or albums? Cause if they're albums I'm truely fuct, hehe.) Another positive thing is that I recently got a 256mb mp3-play-thingie, so I can put 4 (if I'm lucky and only in 128kbs) albums on there and listen while I'm reading. Btw: atm its' Arovane - Lillies (nice but a little too slow), Autechre - Amber (woohoo! ), Ellen Alien & Apparat - Orchestra of Bubbles (some nice cruncy minimal on there) and Sutekh - Periods Make Sense (clicky laidback stuff, some of it might indeed be suitable for my danceable chilloutset) But ok guys, you deserve some credit as well... I'm on it!

Yeah, I've heard this a few times and IMO it gets better towards the second half of the ceedee. The first half is a little too much crossover with jungle, hiphop and drum 'n breaks, but the second half is a very groovy and tastey mix of breaks and psytrance. Very booty shakeable, I love this stuff! Very nice indeed!
-
hahaha, I like it, not because it's so bad, but because it's funny!
-
To date they're the only one I've been listening to and I love 'em. Seriously, there's a lot of good tracks on there: dub in its widest meaning I have to say, but still a lot of great stuff. Trippy, funky, upbeat, downbeat, dubby, trancey, goa-ish, tech-ish: very very happy with it!
