http://www.tomheasley.com/buycds.html Label: Farfield Records Format: CD Release Date: July 2005 Style: Ambient Tracklist 1. Joshua Tree (16.51) 2. Solitude (28.24) 3. 29 Palms (21.25) Tom Heasley's debut cd, Where The Earth Meets The Sky, was just fucking brilliant, characterized by the innovate use of recorded tuba. Tom's third CD, Desert Triptych was recorded live on tour in 2003 and features layered didjeridu and voice. It was mixed from multi-track masters by Robert Rich for release by Farfield Records in July 2005. 1. Joshua Tree (16.51) Calm and lonely under a tree , in a desert, while afternoon gives its place to night.... 2. Solitude (28.24) Solitude starts with some great didgeridoo sounds along with a bunch of layers and pads that succeed in creating a solitary yet not hostile soundscape. Noticeable is the distant, cold feeling blended with warmth though... 3. 29 Palms (21.25) Didgeridoo's fantastic sound once again... 29 Palm's is probably the most mysterious track of all three... As if you find yourself almost hypnotized further in the desert and try realise what's your place in the universe and what has happened, however still remaining calm and not panicking..... All in All Smooth beatless psychedelia, I bet this won't dissapoint anyone of the ambient lovers. Needless to say, production quality is very high and the overall result is rich, abundant music. Hypnotic, cold, distant, peaceful, psychedelic soundscapes. Rating: 10/10

http://www.discogs.com/release/352551 Label: Projekt , Ikon (3) Catalog#: PRO00157, none Format: CD Country: US Released: Aug 2004 Genre: Electronic Style: Experimental/Ambient Notes: previously unreleased : tracks 1, 3, 7, 8, 11. All tracks remastered February 2004 Tracklisting: 1 Shallow Faith (4:30) 2 Second Praise For Last Hope (7:33) 3 The Nocturnal Air (5:43) 4 Ecstasy (6:56) 5 Kindred Spirits (5:54) 6 Darkness Overpowers It All (3:35) 7 Soul Dislocation (11:43) 8 By Abundant Rain (Live) (3:59) 9 Only Fear Will Survive (7:49) 10 Bemused Amphibian (5:47) 11 Assimilate (3:13) 12 Arterial (5:53) Belgian composer Dirk Serries chose the name Vidna Obmana for his musical persona because it means "optical illusion." in Serbian language. I don't know if he has any serbian/croatian roots though. Certainly one of the well-known.. [or maybe notorious?] ambient producers, I really like his style[which is evolving all the time btw... ] 1 Shallow Faith (4:30) Relaxing pads accompanied by rythmic noisy yet not disturbing sounds... Nice evolution in this track, with mysterious soundwaves slowly floating in the atmosphere combined with a mechanical feeling induced by the distorted hats and fx... 2 Second Praise For Last Hope (7:33) Less sounds, atmosphere gets darker already... Weird synths and fx... Genious manipulation of the sound from this self-taught ambient producer... 3 The Nocturnal Air (5:43) Time to breath a little... Managed to get out of the dungeons... Calm, soothing, rich and clean ambience. 4 Ecstasy (6:56) This anthology's most deranged track...Mechanical noises, alien signals... Terror, fear and aggresiveness. Add some experimentation as well... oh, and a respectable amount of crazyness. *WARNING*:Might irritate you if your ears are too soft. 5 Kindred Spirits (5:54) Let's take a break. Previous track was too intense, now balance must be re-established again. Calm but not silent, deep, smooth and cathartic. 6 Darkness Overpowers It All (3:35) We're back in a more industrial environment again, but now there's a weird rather happy melody which perhaps does not fit so well... Track would be better without it IMO... 7 Soul Dislocation (11:43) Busy bass, rhytmic drum-sounds,a few layers of long floating pads. Ritualistic, mystagogic atmosphere is soon to be built up. 8 By Abundant Rain (Live) (3:59) Clear and mysterious at the same time, a pinch of melancholy and a bit of mystery as well , beatless psychedelia... 9 Only Fear Will Survive (7:49) I think by now you've all figured out how the tracks are selected in this anthology... from light to dark, from tranquility and safety to anxiety and fear... This track is similar to no 4 - Ecstacy , only less intense and aggressive but more atmospheic and imposing... Needless to say, experimental synth sounds , silent noises and underground sound. 10 Bemused Amphibian (5:47) The amphibian is apparently bemused. Makes sense, after what he has gone through. You can hear his vocoded delayed voice now and then. 11 Assimilate (3:13) We are reaching our destination... sitting... gazing at the surrounding and becoming one with them... assimilation. 12 Arterial (5:53) Final track is subtle and starts hypnotizing you but as it deepens it soon reaches a climax and becomes loud, impetuous, wild. Conclusion If you are a Vidna Obmana fan you probably have this already. If you are not then you should get this to get a taste, however keep in mind this release is closer to his more experimental[2,3 tracks in fact]. Rating: 9.5/10

http://www.discogs.com/release/11714 Cosmosis - Doors Of Perception / Do It (Teutonic Technoid Remix) Label: Transient Records Catalog#: TRA051 Format: 12" Country: UK Released: 26 Apr 1999 Genre: Electronic Style: Psychedelic Goa Tracklisting 1 Doors Of Perception 2 Do It (Teutonic Technoid Remix) 1 Doors Of Perception Fast, hard, psychedelic, characteristic goa midbass & fx... what else do you want? 2 Do It (Teutonic Technoid Remix) Identifiable typical cosmosis sound, in a maybe more technoid style, as the remix title suggests...And lots of acid synths. Conclusion: Not much to say here, just try to check this EP Rating: 9/10

http://www.discogs.com/release/353638 Label: Ambient World Catalog#: aw 031 Format: CD Country: Germany Released: 15 Jan 2004 Tracklisting 1 La Nuit De Tous Nos Rêves Approche (6:47) 2 Clearing Your Head (8:12) 3 On Her Way In (9.23) 4 Elle A Du Shell (5:44) 5 Synthetique Be-Bop (2:19) 6 Sex-Au-Phone (10:39) 7 On Her Way Out (10:58) For those that do not know and haven't figured out already, AIR is just another alias of Pete Namlook who has delivered us huge amounts of ambient music.. His AIR project,if I guessed right, is probably lighter and less psychedelic side-project, with more vocals and ethnic influences. 1 La Nuit De Tous Nos Rêves Approche (6:47) Maybe you are startled or even disturbed by the cheezy[?] arab/oriental melody.... But to be honest I actually like it... it appears now and then in this track but personally I believe it rather fits this particular track.. The vocal [ male voice saying "Elle A Du Shell" ] does NOT fit and is disturbing to my ears, however. 2 Clearing Your Head (8:12) Okay. Now this seems to start much more ambient-ish , for sure atmospheric and intriguing. Background sounds, imposing and hypnotic voices to the left and right... Clearing your head, that's accurate. 3 On Her Way In (9.23) Slow downbeat chill track including a very nice , melancholic first melody.. After the beatless break at around 3.00 some rather cheesy melodies are introduced, the first melody gets in again after a while so it gets better... and continues pretty descent after that cheezy flaw... Oh no some more cheeeeze towards the end... 4 Elle A Du Shell (5:44) Hmmm.. What do we have here. Funny[?] track.. sounds like music to accompany soap opera's in "we're all happy" moments.[or the "I fell in love" moments.. o0 ;) ] 5 Synthetique Be-Bop (2:19) Intro is weird in a funny way.... Yes that's clearly humour music.. Not what expected but not crap either. 6 Sex-Au-Phone (10:39) Saxophone... As romantic as possible... Well constructed track though, the layers accompanying the sax , plus of course the sax provide this track with lots of emotions.. 7 On Her Way Out (10:58) Final track is fortunately on the ambient/chill side, let's relax a bit... Smooth & melodic.. Hmm. I think Pete Namlook was in love when making this one. I could understand him if it's about the delicious female in the cover. All in all, don't expect Pete Namlook's style or you'll get dissapointed... Try to approach this release as something else, not expecting something trippy and/or psychedelic. Rating: 7/10

http://www.discogs.com/release/137088 Kundalini - Kundalini EP Label: Flying Rhino Records Catalog#: ZFR 002 Format: 12" Country: UK Released: 1995 Genre: Electronic Style: Goa Trance Notes: Produced by J. Monro & M. Evans. + Heinous Frank's edits. Tracklisting A Placebo B1 Rasa B2 Interzone Kundalini's first[and last] work released, apart from several Kundalini tracks that appear on various old school compilations.. Hm, underrated IMO... A Placebo First track starts calm and peaceful... Then it gets some energy kick and ... here you are in goahead's paradise... A peaceful relaxation @ around 4.00 for a few seconds and slowly but steadily energy is builded up again, kundalini is produced by the mind and we are back entranced.. B1 Rasa A rather simple yet not cheesy melody that gets manipulated and whole track is in fact based upon it... Certainly descent track... B2 Interzone Great psychedelic intro, this track swings more on the trippy side with lots of variation , backwards and forward..... plays with you In conclusion, this is definitely a release worth checking , I am certain all old-skool freaks will enjoy this. Subtle psychedelia, goa sound, a calm trip that does not get out of control. Rating: 8.5/10

well i think the one with the hand is not that bad voted for Raja ram, hard choice though. -
none, i dont know psyreviews of course, but i could say there are some reviewers here i trust cuz we share similar taste [e.g seraph].
-
you should definitely check Duuster - Habitat also check Gridlock - Formless [2003]... and of course Autechre's latest stuff [ Draft 7.30 released in 2003 and Untilted released in 2005], although it's a bit TOO hard to digest, needs a lot of time listening to it and getting used to this very innovative unusual sound, probably the future of IDM... Spyweirdos - For Children To Play (2005) is a nice album as well.

http://www.discogs.com/release/151189 Label: Component Records Catalog#: com-111 Format: 12" Country: US Released: 2003 Genre: Electronic Style: DnB / Breakcore / IDM Tracklisting A Panacea When Panacea Strikes (7:10) B Gridlock Bring Out Your Dead (6:18) What do we have here... hm a rather interesting blend between Drum'n'bass/breakcore & IDM... A Panacea - When Panacea Strikes (7:10) This track is more on the horror-ambient style, with a few industrial influences and rather aggresive leads.. B Gridlock - Bring Out Your Dead (6:18) This track is a bit of a similar style to the previous one, but with a more interesting beat and more experimentation... Mysterious,Chaotic, aggresive, gloomy, distorted, rhytmic, loopy. Emphasis on the loop/drums/drum noises part , with some leads/pads now and some interesting breaks like the one around ~ 4:44... Definitely recommended if you are attracted by something unusual, out of the ordinary and you have an tolerant ear for what sounds strange of course.. Several elements are combined in these 2 tracks, a dark/horrifying atmosphere with maybe even funky drum'n'bass loops , with an IDM-like distortion.. ehhh. Rating : 8.5+/10

indeed, i never said the opposite, anyways i am not sure and cannot be sure about the following statement but i think that it's not exactly a shorcut since the states you reach after ingesting psychedelics and the states you reach with other means[e.g fasting & meditation] do have some similarities but still remain different [talking intellectually because of lack of personal experiences on the matter] btw let us informed of what you think of Derango when you have a listen ,eh ?
-
well fact is that the term "psychedelic" was first used to describe the experiences on lsd , mushrooms, mescaline... Now, I think that such an experience surely shows you another perspective, but anyways, to quote myself about psychedelia in art... :

Pete Namlook & Dandy Jack - Silent Music 1st listen... -
yes, agree with bahamut, Dajek i had sort of the same reactions/feelings when starting to get into ambient music...
-
PKS , i guess you sold 568 cds and lost 350 euros.
-
I am not sure about this... As fas as i know, in the early-to-mid 90s the scene was pretty much less commercial, more underground [ am i right?] and the musical quality of most of the releases was pretty much pro-like, compared to todays "psyscene"
-
I think you can also get it directly from here for just 12$.. : http://www.steveroach.com/store/store.php [search using "Blood Machine" as keyword in Title search] there you can also download 1 track for free.

well i think that e.g Biosphere or FSOL or Steve Roach , vidna obmana, vir unis etc, or even experimental/idm artists such as Autechre or Duuster are much more PSYCHEDELIC than all these "psytrance" and "psychill" , especially the ones released nowadays.
