I like it building, for psy/goa trance, consistent for techno, erratic when it's IDMish or mixes various styles, falling when it comes to ambient/chill.
In fact I find I like most of the drug-samples or 'psychedelic culture' related ones.
E.g. The one from Scatterbrain - Mexican Jesus
or Battle Of The Future Buddhas "My mind is going.. There's no question about it"...
Dude, it's just a different style of music. Yes the focus is not on the melodies. Yes Derango have put lots of work in the effects and they play a big role in the atmospheres they make. Yes,being melodic is not Derango's priority (although they are not totally a-melodic either ). So it's perfectly fine for me to say you don't like it, but not that it's rubbish or talentless.
I enjoy both oldschool psy/goa trance (huge fan , in fact) but also some of the newer dark/forest psy.
And yes I find Derango to be ultimately psychedelic. You just don't get this music, fine. No problem. I can see it's quite complex, intilligent & trippy. And not only when I'm stoned.
Emmanuhell, I do see your point, however i don't think that "Best of.." is necessarily 'bad' per se. For me it only means "Which release you enjoyed the most this year" I don't see it as MTV-Top Chart or something...
Ambient such as Biosphere, Steve Roach, Vidna Obmana, Robert Rich etc
IDM/Downtempo such as Ab Ovo(!), Displacer, Autechre, Richard Devine (!) ...
& the list goes on..
Weird. If you listen to The Poisonous Square & tell me you can hear no leads/melodies then I am at a loss of words...
And it's not the only track, all over the album there are melodic elements. Anyways, each to his own perception of music I guess...
