Denial is a defense mechanism in which a person is faced with a fact that is painful to accept rejects it instead, insisting that it is not true despite what may be overwhelming evidence.
Most people won't hear the difference, and most sound systems won't tell the difference. But if you got a nice little sound system and well trained ears, you might spot the difference.
You might be experiencing aliasing.
Aliasing also refers to the distortion or artifact that is caused by a signal being sampled and reconstructed as an alias of the original signal.
Be sure to resample the wave from 48kHz to 44.1kHz using an anti-alias filter.
