Atmos - Tour De Trance CD (Spiral Trax, December 2008)
GaySatanicHippie replied to pr0fane's topic in 2008
Once upon a time in the Magic Forest of La-la-Land, a beautiful flouro goa fairy was upset at her boyfriend, an angry little dark-psy-dwarf with dreadlocks under his armpits. He had always been somewhat of a weirdo with a bad temper, but lately he was getting more and more aggravated. He screamed at the poor fairy so fast and so loud that she didn´t even understand him anymore, he made no sense whatsoever. As luck would have it, one day she met a big Barry White-like looking deep-house bear and fell madly in love with him. He was everything that her boyfriend wasn`t: Respectful, confident, romantic, groovy and he knew how to please a fairy. After spending a night with the deep-house bear she suddenly realized what was wrong with the angry dark-psy-dwarf: He had a really small penis! And all the screaming and ranting he did was to compensate for that. So the fairy moved in with her new lover and they made nine beautiful children who were as calm, relaxed and confident as their father, the deep house bear, but also as sparkling and colorful like their mother, the goa fairy. And that, my dear little children, is how the tracks on this album were born. (And their 6 cousins from the compact stick) As the more astute amongst you may have noticed, I am very stoned right now. Therefore I will stop writing about dwarfs, fairies and deep house bears and get back to the real world with a concrete statement: This is Atmos` best album yet! There, I said it. I know that is a very tall statement given the fact that Headcleaner is an absolute classic that re-defined the genre and 2nd Brigade was a pretty fucking awesome follow-up that included "Transmission in Vain". However, "Tour de Trance" manages to top them both. And it does so in the classiest of ways: Quiet, yet oozing of confidence; subliminal, yet highly emotional; slow, yet with an unbelievable level of detail in its sound design. In a way, "Tour de Trance" is the essence of everything that is Atmos. All the elements that have made his music so easily recognizable and successful over the years are here, just better. That includes the trademark laid-back rhythm section of grooves and percussion (total Headcleaner flashback), the masterful usage of voice samples, the subliminal beautiful soundscapes and the way he makes everything sound so easy. However, what really makes "Tour de Trance" shine so brightly is the combination of the slow pace with the absolutely stunning detailed production. If you listen closely, there is an entire world opening up between the beats, little subplots and twists and turns, it´s like reading between the lines of a book. As for the individual tracks, all of them are 100 % pure class, at least the ones on the CD. The CD takes the listener on one of the most coherent and well-told stories of any album I know, a real "Tour de Trance" in every way imaginable. To use an old cliché, this is one of the rare occasions where the album as a whole is more than just the sum of its individual tracks (same goes for Minilogue – Animals, for example). Thats also why I won´t single out any individual tracks. The bonus tracks from the Compact Stick cannot quite keep up the same level but are also very good, except "Rhythm Is", which is an absolute deep trippy emotional gem that really should have made the cut for the CD. To sum things up, listening to this album of condensed pure Atmos-ness like 50 times over the last week I think I have finally figured out why I like Atmos music so much, and why people talk about the Atmos frequency that you either get or don`t get: At the core, it´s really deep house. Just with trance instruments. (And you thought that fairy tale at the beginning was totally pointless…) It is now perfectly clear to me. And really, trance and deephouse are a match made in heaven, in their purest form they both explore deepness, one focusses in on the hypnotic, the other on the soul. Atmos does both. 10/10. Best Record of the Year. One of the best 3 Trance Records Ever (Next to Union Jack and Terra Ferma) PS: The Compact Stick is really worth it: 6 new tracks (1 super awesome track , 1 awesome chill track, 4 very good ones) and cool other stuff, including live video. The artwork really fits the music as well, I can totally picture myselfsitting inthat space ship going on a tour with Atmos (the guy sitting next to him in the cockpit even looks like me, only half as fat...). -
His girlfriend is really hot, too. But how he does it, I dont know. No trust fund ,that`s for sure, Ninja Sex Skills maybe. At last years Ozora they had sex in one of the cornfields nearby and his knees were completely bloody after from all the pushing he did...

Symphonix – The Wild Life Label: Blue Tunes Recordings Catalog#: BTRCD022 Format: CD, Album Country: Germany Released: Nov 2008 Tracklisting: 1 Trip Away 2 System Float 3 Smoking Ace 4 Floating Mirror 5 Freq Box 6 Freaking Out 7 The Good Old Times 8 Home Sweet Home 9 Resting Voltage 10 Miles To Go Ever since one fateful 11-hour drive from VuuV to Ozora Festival in the summer of 2008, the music of the Symphonix will for me be forever linked to the noxious fumes emanating from one of my dear friends´ ass. I will call him J. for the purpose of this little review here, in order not to expose him and his gaseous ways on a public forum. But let me elaborate. In the summer of 2008 about 20 friends and I went on a trip to VuuV festival and then continued on to Ozora festival in Hungary. J. was kind enough to give me a ride in his rather small car, along with his girl and another friend. After VuuV I had really bad cramps in my legs because I danced so much and didn't sleep for 3 days, so when I tried to stuff my 1,95 cm frame into his tiny car, the cramps got a lot worse. As luck would have it, J. had prescription muscle relaxers from an earlier back injury, and he gave one to me. After about 5 minutes in the car, I heard a dirty laugh coming from his direction followed by the smell of rotten eggs mixed with the unwashed vagina of a geriatric crackwhore about 30 seconds later. I loudly expressed my disgust and tried to find a comfortable position in the car so I could finally get some well deserved rest. Little did I know of the olfactory horrors that were awaiting me… Now, I had taken muscle relaxers before at one point, but never after 3 days of partying with absolutely no sleep. As we got onto the highway, I slowly felt the muscle relaxers kicking in, and I fell into a weird half-sleep, where I was strangely conscious, yet I absolutely could not move one single muscle. I imagine it was like eating Fugu, an out-of-body experience but without the deadly outcome. As I submerged into that trance-like state, J. told his girlfriend "Put on Symphonix", and she did as she was told. And that's when the Symphonix CD and the products of my friend's lower intestine melted into one strange synaestetic trip of hypnotic pumping beats and smells so hideous, even Tubgirl would have turned green in her face (actually, her face probably would have stayed brown…). Every 5 minutes or so, I heard a dirty little laugh, followed by a proud exclamation along the lines of "I don't know if you still classify that as biological warfare, considering all the chemicals I ate at VuuV it technically must be considered chemical warfare, höhöhöhö" or "That's why I could never be gay, whoever sticks his dick in my ass, it would immediately fall off, the environment is toxic down there, hahahahaha". I was helpless, one minute I smelled the decomposing corpse of a 500-pound fat Samoan woman after it was lying at the bottom of a sewage treatment plant for a few weeks, the next I smelled one of Goa Gils dreads. And there was nothing I could do about it. I was paralyzed, only my nose was working better then ever. To add insult to injury, we made a stop where J. and his girlfriend went outside for a while. As he returned to the car he made sure to close all doors and windows, issued forth a thunderous fart and victoriously proclaimed "Ahhh, now I feel at home again!" Anyways, later I found out that what we listened to was the first Symphonix CD "Music Prositute". And let me tell you, that prostitute specializes in anal. Strangely enough, the multisensory experience in the car made me really seek out the new Symphonix CD, "The Wild Life". Even though I was never a big fan of their music before (except their track "Druids" with that awesome haunting sample of a deranged woman screaming "Liar"), I discovered a certain hypnotic deepness in their music during that drive that I had never noticed before. Luckily, "The Wild Life" is better then everything they have done in the past. Symphonix certainly did not re-invent the wheel on this record, but they dramatically improved on their trademark sound. The signature hypnotic synths that sound like they were recorded driving through a tunnel are still present, and so are the somewhat dry progressive grooves. But there is a lot more "flesh on the bones" because the tracks appear much more colorful and dynamic compared to their older stuff. And IMHO one sure hit is on this record, the perfectly titled "The Good Old Times". That little lead melody made me jump right out of my chair when I first heard it. Even though it is only a few seconds long, it perfectly captures the feeling of happy nostalgia that Symphonix probably tried to express given the tracks` name. Another stand-out is "Home Sweet Home", an exploration of how deep one can go using the means of prog. psy. Really hypnotic trippy shit, I`m sure it would inspire J. to dig very deep into his bowels to see what torturous smells he could unleash next into this world. And I also really enjoy "System Float", a very typical Symphonix track that I´m sure works wonders on the dancefloor, particularly after the break. The other tracks are all good to ok, but nothing that really stands out, except maybe "Resting Voltage", which kind of experiments with dark techy atmospheres. Last but not least, I want to point out the cool cover of this album, especially considering the cheesy atrocity that was the cover of Music Prostitute. Nice color scheme, reminds me of Miami Vice. Perfect for abuse, hehehe… Anyways, a good solid album with 1 superb track (7), one great track (8) and one very good track (2). Höhöhöhöhöhöhö……

This is one of those records that really grows on you. At first I was kinda disappointed because there are no huge tracks on here (except Trümmerfeld or Dark Side of My Room maybe). But now I cant get it out of my player, I listen to it all day long every day. Really deep and subliminal, it always reminds me of a semi-dormant brooding volcano, you can feel the raw power underneath the seemingly calm surface... Definitely recommended, but give it some time. Fav. tracks are One Tree Hill, Dark Side..., Trümmerfeld, Homing, but all the others are great, too.

Im always very surprised at parties when you see all these fucked up people wearing weird clothes looking like the biggest fuck-ups on earth, and when you go talk to them they turn out to be physics PHD`s, lawyers, doctors, business men etc... So, in a way im always surprised at the high level of education of psytrancers, its definitely higher then at at techno parties. I think psytrance is much more of an escape from reality then other forms of electronic music, so you find a lot of "normal" intelligent people who let it go all out, especially at summer festivals. I guess you could call them weekend hippies...

I havent been up to things here in a while, so let me re-iterate what i understood so far: Someone hacked the server, so the off-topic was closed for one month because it is believed that the hack was due to forum politics and in this month it is enough time for people to calm down. However, many forums were hacked lately so it isnt entirely sure if that was the case or if the hack was completely random. I hope the latter was the case, it would really suck if someone took their online grudges to such an extreme level. But with some of the psychos around, I wouldnt even be surprised.

Space Techno and Tech-House Mix
GaySatanicHippie replied to GaySatanicHippie's topic in DJ Promotion
well, this mix sure is hypnotic, but definitely not hard. 124 bpm throughout I still hope you'll like it. BTW, here is one of the rainbows I was talking about (posted in the photo thread already), I guess this could be the cover. -
Yo! I haven't posted a mix in a while, so I decided to post this spontaneous mix I made the other day after observing a beatiful rainbow outside my window and getting a really cool job the day before. As you can imagine, I was in a good mood anyways and after I saw that rainbow (the second one in 2 weeks!) I let my creative juices fly, and out came this mix that I really like. Another result of those creative juices is the title of this mix "Der Sack voll Gold am Ende des Regenbogens" which translates to "The sack'o gold at the end of the rainbow". I think this name is perfect because the two rainbows I saw in such a short amount of time are a sign that this new job will make me filthy rich! As for the music, it starts with space techno, then goes to playful tech-house only to return once again to space techno for a soft landing. Its 80 minutes long cause I made it for my dads car which only has a normal CD player. Link: http://www.sendspace.com/file/g3rmzt Here's the tracklist: 1.) Anthony Rother - Welcome to my Laboratory - Telekraft Recordings 2.) Minilogue - In a Distance - Cocoon 3.) Loco Dice - Leaks in the Roof - Desolat 4.) Tigerskin - Peters Secret Weapon - Dirt Crew 5.) Kollektiv Turmstrasse - Luchttoorn - Connaisseur 6.) Sian - Sei (Steve Bug Remix) - Poker Flat 7.) He is AWESOME! Check out Mekong Delta, my favorite of his. Was released on Ostgut Tontraeger. He is also the resident DJ of Berghain in Berlin.

I am 100% its Len Faki Death by House. Beatport is wrong. You can totally hear by the sound of the track that its Len Faki, too, plus in all the magazines its Len Faki Death by house as well. Its not the first time Beatport mixed something up on their file names. Edit: I have had many of those fuck-ups from beatport...
-
looks like someone just got himself the new Cocoon compilation btw, the track Death by House is by Len Faki, the Simon Baker track is called "U". Havent listened to the mix yet, so i dont know which one it is. the mix looks interesting, though, ill d/l soon

First of all, thanks for the gay love But, it wasnt my intention at all to pass judgement whether chill-out is bad or good, I just pointed out there were many more tracks without a 4/4 to the floor dancebeat then on your last album even in the samples. Its your album and your creativity, so do as you please, the samples sound awesome as always with your music, you definitely have your very own unique sound going that I appreciate very much. I looking forward a lot to the release in August!
-
Is it really that good? THe samples I heard didnt sound very appealing to me, but I read some reviews that described the music in a way that I should like it (basically minimal with intricate melodic soundscapes) Did you guys actually listen to it yet, or have you just ordered?

Proggy Mix featuring Old and New Favs.
GaySatanicHippie replied to GaySatanicHippie's topic in DJ Promotion
Cool, this mix gets bumped up again...I havent listéned to it in a while, but it turned out pretty good I think. I really wanna do a new one, I have lots of new music, but I cant seem to find time for it, which is weird, because Im done with University and basically doing nothing all day. Oh well, the pleasure of sweet nothingness... -
I just laid ears upon Loco Dice's debut album 7 Dunham place - OH MY FUCKING GOD - AWESOME!!!! It sounds just like you'd expect him to sound like, but he took his trademark sound in different directions. All tracks are clearly Loco Dice, but all are different. So effortless and deep, yet bouncy and elegant and slightly trancey as is usual with him. What really is different than usual is the use of vocal samples here and there. But no worries, all in extremely good taste. Masterpiece, no fucking doubt. I am speechless. I shall leave now for another round of blissful listening. Haven't heard Minilogue yet, but they'll have a hard time competing with this.
-
original all the way!!!!!!!!!! all the remixes are lame in comparison, i must have listened to the original on alien protein at least 500 times, i remember the grooves on my vynil were all rundown...
-
this isbasically a mixed collection of singles and remixes, right? not a "real srtist album" of new tracks?
-
how about a younger brother option? im not a big godford an, i like some tracks here or there throughout his work, but half of the tracks from the new younger brother album are good and crumblenaut from the first one is awesome too. Shpongle I really only like the first album, hallucinogen only a few tracks. I much prefer Hallucinogen in Dub.
-
hahaha, your description is hilarious, therefore i will do a first as well and download my very firstchill-out set. i hope the music is as cool as the written words, the tracklist looks awesome from the limited chill-out knowledgei have
-
and the son kite album will out on bne, the label announced that on their website. so the guys are keeping busy, three albums in a year even though i think the minilogue album has been ready for about 2 years...
