i'm on DETOX's side here .. but that's about all, i don't have a "solution".
-
as i've said, you cannot generalize. you wanna know how much i was earning when i graduated from university and got this job? 150$. could i afford to spend $44 per month on CDs? no. now i earn more, so i can afford to spend $44 per month on CDs .. but now i have another problem ... if i buy CDs for $44 per month, then .. will i have enough money to go to a festival this summer? it's not easy. but still, you cannot by far compare me with YOU. you probably earn now 4-5 times more than what i earn. this would be like ... me asking you to spend $300 per month on CDs. would you do that? no. and come on, you can't ask students to stop drinking ... that's painful!!

oh, i'm sorry, my mistake. i ment that my version of thiefs are PEOPLE who have a choice: to buy, to download, both.
-
legal or illegal, downloading is wrong, but it exists, and no one has come up with something innovative that would stop people from downloading. not yet. it's the reality. so in this reality, people can choose: - to buy CDs and not to download - not to buy CDs and to download - to download CDs but also to buy.
-
it's not the lamest excuse, we just reffer to different situations. your version of thiefs are the ones who refuse to buy CDs, cause mp3s downloading is what they actually want. my version of thiefs are the ones who have a choice: to download, to buy, or both.
-
ok, since you mentioned "stealing" .. i have a thing on my mind. when albums and compilations get released, the first tool (or let's call it the main tool) that is used for selling them is ... the internet. promotion and sales are done through internet. and this internet thingie has a bug: it contains this feature called "download". so until someone comes up with a better way, people have a choice: to download, to buy, or both. it's like you know that in your town, street X is full of thiefs, but you want/have to use that particular street to get to your destination. so what do you do in this case? you hope and you try to find a solution to get by, you try to make the thiefs on this street let you or help you get to your destination. it's not fair, of course, but as long as it exists, you have to deal with it. again, i don't encourage downloading, but it exists and this cannot be ignored. plus, as i stated earlier, to some extent, downloading brings also advantages.

downloading mp3s, obviously.

well, "dear" DETOX .. i guess paying a party ticket isn't a support for labels. unless the label organises the party, like Twisted did last night. i heard it was packed. but new labels cannot achieve this level so early (maybe just with luck). so from this point of view i understand you. i aggree that some people could buy more, but the initiative has to come from them. there are people and people. you cannot just see it black and white. i still do wonder how things would be if it weren't for "download". i can imagine a way smaller scene, way more underground, fewer labels, fewer artists, and way more "regional". well, unless you'd get MTV involved or something similar.
-
That thing was a bit of a humour from my side Skelly.
-
i bet there were also less parties and less festivals then, than there are now.
-
i think that if it weren't for "download" ... considering how big the scene is these days ... many people would just check out the parties announcements and flyers and say: " who the fuck are these guys in the line-up?" i mean, come on, people don't hang out on saikosounds all day long to search for new good music. it's just the fact! nothing more ..
-
i forgot to say that .. sadly, there are also a lot of people who just think that downloading is the only way: "why should i buy when i can download? i don't need to have the original CD, a good quality mp3 is fine." that's nasty.
-
yep, that's pretty much off limits. yes, people download because they can do it, freely. it's a fact, the rest has to be built around it, at least untill someone will actually make downloading impossible. to be honest, if CDs costed 5 Eur, i personally would buy more CDs. but you cannot generalise ... a person who earns like 200 Eur/month would probably say: with the price of 2 CDs i'll buy some food, some jeans and a shirt for my kid. it's all about priorities, that's why you cannot generalise. each has their own financial situation and priorities. to some people it takes 2 years (or more) of work to make 8000$. how many months does it take to the Journey Man to make 8000$? i bet it's not longer than 4 months. so you cannot generalise! you can generalise this though: people download cause it's for free. and paying a ticket to the party IS supporting the scene. even if it doesn't justify downloading, you cannot exclude the fact that people are making parties & gigs possible. i am not proud of downloading, and i don't recommend it, but i'm guilty. but i also buy. so i chose a middle way. and i think it is working fine. and a last question ... considering how big the scene is (with all genres and subgenres) .. how much can a person buy according to their will?

There are 25 threads in the "2006" section, so far. I have browsed through all of them, red all posts, and i found quite many comments that could pass as off-topic posts. Since they were not a very big distraction from the main topic, and they were not very much eye-disturbing either, I left them there (not all, some had to go!). But please keep in mind that the purpose of this section of the forum is reviews. Please stick to listening the release and writing your review. People come here to read what you thought about the music they're interested in ... not about the cover art-work exclusively, not about which psynews member is more "looser" than others, not about whose opinnion is out of line or unreal, not about the level of excitement before listening to a release, and not about sighing. A "sigh" is not a review. If you need to "sigh" related to a certain release or artist, please use the General section or the Off Topic section. Thank you for reading this.

personally i never buy before dlding and listening and comparing. i can't buy much music, so i gotta make sure that the one i buy is "the best choice". i also used to give CDs to a couple of dj friends of mine, to make sure new good music gets heard by people. now these friends got internet connections at home, so they have a choice now.

i guess promo CDs value less than the retail CDs, cause i care about the cover work as well. the product includes the package, the package stands for "image". btw, i've got a promo of Voice Of Cod - We Are Free, it's a CD-R + cover. i've bought the CD recently, so i'm thinking of giving the promo cd to someone who might love to have it. i'd preffer someone who likes Voice Of Cod, and who may not afford to buy a lot of music..

i didn't know that ... that's not ideal .. who makes the music knows best what the samples should be made of. -

my thoughts exactly. seemed like downtempo stuff. i wonder who sent those samples to psyshop. change them, it'll do you good. -
come on guys, don't be so mean! i mean, think a bit .. if you saw that car on the street .. wouldn't you go: "ahahaha wonderful! this car just made my day!" and then y'all would go home and do a few clicks to get some more info on that party. however, what will the car be repainted as after the tour is over?

Psytwin Jukebox: Artists mixes and tracks listing.

This thread has been moved from General section to the Music Promotion section. -
See, there is a friend's birthday coming up soon ... and I've been thinking of getting him a CD as a present. And I have thought of a downtempo, chill out music CD, as he is a "non-psy" person. So I did some listens through my winamp at work, checked out some Shpongle, Tripswitch, Emou, Bluetech, Shulman, Capsula, Entheogenic, and a few compilations. And then I thought: "This friend has no idea what music I listen to, let's not shock him", so I decided to pick the most accessible CD out of all these. Guess who the winner was. Yes, Kaya Project - Elixir seemed to be the perfect choice for what I was looking for. This album contains a very accessible music, it is so accessible that I only really got into it after a few listens, and then it grew on me again and again. I think that a "non-psy" person would probably appreciate it sooner than a "psy" person would. Maybe because their brains are not so complicated as ours, music-wise. However, this is a music for everybody, it doesn't matter the sex, age, location, prefferences. Why? Because it has very good rythms, melodies, "spicy" effects everywhere, instruments, vocals, good mood, and it is even danceable. It's groovey, delicate, firm, relaxing, uplifting, and it has oriental aromas in its melodies. Various instruments meet male or female vocals in a perfect compatibility, and all together create some smooth sound curves. Sound curves are very good providers of feelings of "comfortable", "intimate", "personal". Sure, there probably is a lot of chill out music with oriental rythms out there, so some of you might say "nothing new". To me, this is a very fresh sound, as the production is very good, and the oriental element is not the main idea here. There is plenty of diversity inside the package. You have to open it to discover the music for yourselves. It's lovely. It makes me smile. Edit: I also like the cover a lot.
