  1. well labels keep the rights to tracks for something like 5 years only, isn't it? so... i honestly don't know much about his music (please don't stone me to death), but there is a fair chance the copyright might have been handed back to him (if such label even exists today).

    Derango :)

i never thought the poisonous square was overly impressive: the standout's for me are (once again): - Whole in the ground (Rmx) || stone age - Boomorgon (Remix) || Inpsyde - Clairvoyage || Insomnia - Mellan Mitten || Sanaton all great examples in my book... from the album i still play deranged often...
  3. this year apparently, we'll have to wait for Gi'iwa to confirm... damn guess that is not "soon" but oh well
  4. well not everyone could win i'm happy for the ones that did though, good vibes, good times
  5. Compilation: Sanatonic Audio Label: Sanaton Records Web: http://www.sanatonrecords.com CAT: SRCD02 SE.net: http://www.sonic-energy.net/core/content/view/223/2/ 01 - Donkey Shot - Ode on Fellow Casualties [150] 02 - Procs - Frequenters [143] 03 - Ka-Sol – Just Another Riot [145] 04 - Zikdrury – Joconta Stories (Rmx) [154] 05 - Traskel – Unknown Speakers [148] 06 - Hallucinogenic Horses – The Stable Of Hooves [148] 07 - Derango – Mellan Mitten [148] 08 - Zalabim – Jiggsaw Tonic [147] 09 - Hokus Pokus + The Vicious Spiral – Rusten Svensker [146] 10 - Jahbo - Hashed [146] According to allrecordlabels.com, Sanaton specializes in an eclectic blend of Boogie Woogie, Fractal, Ghettotech, and Screamo within the realm forest psy trance (laugh, it is apparently a joke). If we attempt to trace this fascination with the green forests, in a seemingly designed musical strand that characterizes by this type of environment, even if they are now saying "hey man, this works pretty much everywhere" I would like to understand why. Looking for answers I turned to the Swedish history records and curiously enough, the first picture that sprung out of Google was some Vikings and a hot mami in the middle of – you got it right- a forest. A subsequent search for updated images of the region revealed the place has not changed that much since. Would it be out of place then, to assume there is a genuine sub-branch of psychedelic trance that has evolved organically from an adaptation to the surroundings? Let’s fast forward to the present, where does it lead? Back to Sanaton: A loose group of enthusiasts sharing their love for music and good times, that figured there is enough bark amongst them to let it bloom. Sanatonic Audio is the second sampler from their cauldrons, reserved for those who have acquired a taste for manic, immersive, cranial proposals that boldly go where no synthesizer has gone before… / play ‘Star Trek’ theme. Per Track 1- Donkey Shot – Ode on Fellow Casualties The first public appearance of Johan Hellquist is an ode to our fellow travelers who got lost along way and now slide seamlessly between realities, most probably in a mental institution. For an opener the donkey shot is felt quickly in an incongruous arrangement of destructed elements with woobly lines, scream-infused atmospherics and fractal effects edging on dissonance. 2- Procs – Frequenters * In retrospect I find ‘frequenters’ a freak child from Mikael Stegman’s usual production. The beat is easily the muddiest, dirtiest one I have heard so far and it takes good stereo to let the groove shine. The whizzing air-like effects, the twilight pads and the trumpets in the break are all –apparently- working towards a humorous resolution. The moniker stands comfortably on la-la land, up there in cloud nine. 3- Ka-Sol – Just another Riot * I guess I should just come out and say it. The only Ka-Sol I’ve heard was in Apsara last year and the sound is pretty new to me. It retains some of that classic Goa, with detuned glissandi giving a new meaning to the word maximal. Leaning on Goa is not my style lately but I have to admit this is pretty damn tasty. 4- Zikdrury – Joconta Stories (Rmx) * The Greek influx continues even in the Sanatonic front-line and the latest import is Alex Vozikis & Dennis Patsouros. Their offering here is one dizzyingly involving number with scattered female chants giving way to more nauseating effects, gently unfolding in stereo mode to magical lines all fragmented and distraught. Playing in the 150’s club with refreshing rhythmical proposals is always welcomed. That said, a little more depth in the lower ranges would been even better, since this thing is moving like hammer -I might as well feel it. The hurricane of interaction upstairs makes up for it though. Oh, and if you thought you were the only one thinking about the Gioconda, idling away with the picture as the Greeks did their job… well, you weren’t the only one. 5- Traskel – Unknown Speakers * The Swedish gnome Marcus Ryman is behind the Traskel project, which translated roughly means ‘Monkey Poo’ in Hopi (ok, ok I made that up). His style is usually disjointed, mechanic and utterly shit-for-brains inducing. The beat elements keep the ear interested while the effects replace any form of melodic intent. 6- Hallucinogenic Horses – The Stable of Hooves * Hallucinogenic Horses are composed of the Eriksson’s and Emil Wennborn that was responsible for the artwork in their album Tumult released last year. Like most derango-infused work, it is very hard to point out characteristics: everything is an assault on the senses, constantly morphing. Standing out is the beat, the use of everything from toms to horse whiffs… is a riot and not the quiet kind. 7- Derango – Mellan Mitten * Would it be fair to say ‘forest’ has turned into a euphemism with these two? Inside the mellan of the mitten is clear Derango still has it. Their work is more entertaining than watching a Jerry Bruckheimer film. What is so great about it? Probably the way they manage to infuse chaos with droopily liquid harmonies and disorienting effects, in such a way that it still retains some harmony… well barely there. The prevalence of an individual style, showing a great deal of ingenuity in every track at the same time gets them extra-brownie points too. 8- Zalabim – Jigsaw Tonic Zalabim is another newcomer I have no recollection of hearing and the surprise was rather pleasant. The twisting and stretching synths meddle infinitely in a rather catchy tune with steady backbone. It’s a little humdrum in retrospect but I honestly can’t wait for the old plug and chuck to see how it works out. 9- Hokus Pokus + the Vicious Spiral – Rusten Svensker * Back on track, the ninth chapter is a collaboration of Hokus Pokus that got featured last year in Parvati and the Vicious Spiral (previously heard by the Gi’iwa corner). The bottom end sinks deep in between an artifice of high-ranged madness and some squeakers that bring back memories of ‘Zim Zalabim’ at times, by part of Hokus Pokus. The end result is a no nonsense jumpy groove throwing up the nastiest chunks of binary regurgitations I’ve heard in a while. The real kicker is finding out it actually builds to a monster around the fourth minute, in a noisy climax to leave even the most depraved listeners satisfied… *sigh* now go get me a smoke. 10 – Jahbo – Hashed * Jahbo ends the ride with a thick brown brick the size of Rastafarian newborn. Standing out in my ears are the jazzy snares plugged right into the drum matrix with satisfying results. The rest is jumble of corroded melodies rasping the speakers like liquid sand paper... and you're gonna love it. All in All Every now and again a CD falls in my reach with such disturbing material, I have difficulty breaking the sonic spell to attempt writing words about it. Obviously this a sign the music is great (in a psychedelic way), but it also means I will need to rub my chin for few extra days to spit something out that merely attempts describing what is being heard. Suffice to know despite having a big number of relatively unknown names, the quality is standing as a benchmark. I don’t own Boldly Audio, but the jump in terms of professionalism is noteworthy: Mastering by Chromatome, pressed CD’s, neat artwork (I like the alien in the back cover better btw), and a great selection of tracks. The fact Sanaton has released only 400 copies, makes a statement this is not geared for the masses -but then again- we knew that already just by looking at the track list. Briefly put, this baby is a rare forest berry… or whatever the hell it grows down there. Where to Buy http://www.sanatonrecords.com/orderframe.htm
  6. i was born in a small coastal town where they play accordions... it is called... cumbia and it is everything, but psychedelic.... be warned... this freak child might not be fit to exist... i do recall there was one track though, or i was prob making that up.. uhh...

    Sick Psy

He's also been released in manic dragon (light from the depths of chaos), in a versus with natinel... the track is decent, but i would like to hear something else by him

you can expect some future music from me, i'm placing kittens in the blender and them mixing it at 200 BPM's ... ufff... it's intense
  10. RAH

    Derango :)

well is about taste, you either like or you don't
  11. RAH

    Derango :)

that's perhaps because derango does not built towards a climatic moment in the traditional sence of track structuring like it has turned oh so prevalent. Intro-climax-outro... derango is about a trip in every track and you can get lost for 8 or the 9 minutes they competly forgeting strucutre and hanging out for the ride. you can find some very clear climaxes in several tracks like Boomorgon. As for the samples and effects, i beg to differ their stuff is pretty damn fresh i could even cite examples of artists who have started copying different sounds and specific samples... but i don't think we need to go that far. my point is, it's a different kind of psychedelic, if you are expecting or even comparing them to classic planet ben, well is clear you are not going to get it. as thinking outside the box is required

i find it funny, how people keep flocking on this thread to recommend the same people over and over... it's cute like a really bad case of ADD

they just released a new track with deja vu in Gnoti Seauthon... or however that's spelled, it's one of the very few good tracks in the album... such a mistake buying that one
  14. interesting stuff for sure... very forest in deed, great effects really derango-ed percussion... and the mastering is def better than your last.. you are missing to my ears some climax like cybernnetika said, or a melodi perhaps, very cool though
  15. nice... *downloading* comments to follow...

    v/a - Mechanophobia

Compilation: Mechanophobia Label: Trishula Records Web: http://www.trishula-records.com/ CAT: TRISHCD008 SE:http://www.sonic-energy.net/core/content/view/218/2/ 01 - Mubali & Xyla - Mechanophobia [144] 02 - Mind Distortion System - Japan Connection [150] 03 - Polyphonia - Ano Kato [150] 04 - Baba Jelly - Zoe La Folesse [152] 05 - Olien - Calamari [148] 06 - Metallaxis - Conclusion [150] 07 - Vicious Alchemy - End or Fin [154] 08 - Procs - Big Fat Large Snoring Lamas [150] 09 - Psyfactor - Vodka Madness [150] What's This About? It was recently discovered the story of David and Goliath, unfolds a little differently from the present day preconceptions of a thundering warrior versus a young boy. In the last couple of years, historians and anthropologists from renowned universities around the globe have arrived to the conclusion Goliath of Gath was actually a motorized beast, closely resembling the model of Optimus Prime (stemming the whole Transformers series). From the mythological legend, ‘Mechanophobia’ has taken a foothold in academic circles that seek to digress it was not a metaphorical term of technological fear, but a very real terror of being obliterated by a huge robot. Bible scholars are correcting the holly book as we speak. In the meantime Trishula has released the latest sampler of producers, ready to show their own personal side of this mechanic affliction. Per-Track 1 – Mubali & Xyla – Mechanophobia * Xyla a from the San Francisco Bay area got together with Mubali a while back to spawn the title piece for the compilation. Rumor has it this track has been has stashed away, waiting for the right time to surface. Inside, the fetishist tendencies dark trance have been displaying lately with the machinization of music bent on industrial influences, reach an apotheosis suiting to complement the sound score for Shinya Tsukamoto’s film Tetsuo – the Iron Man. Delving in the mechanical drones and inorganic sputters, we rekindle with the very core of industrial on a much more suiting environment. Think manic compositional arrangements, with new production tools and techniques departing from the 90’s style. Hypermetric beats, metal clanking - it’s a wretched mess. 2- Mind Distortion System – Japan Connection * DJ Nel-Sun better known as Jara de Los Santos, has been organizing free parties with the Mystical Druids Society since 2002 all throughout Portugal, France and Belgium where he’s settled these days. The Japan connection comes with a steady doze of pounding and unexpected funky pads, mixed with cheerful whistling breaks. The combo of light atmospheres with energetic flows works great for my ears. 3- Polyphonia – Ano Kato * Romolo Cheri has been making distorted electric noises, starting with his guitar since he was 11. A bunch of years later, ‘Ano Kato’ which translates roughly to helter skelter in Greek (thanks Leny), is nothing short of a mechanophobic upheaval of uncompromising metallic harsh noises, scrapping the very surface of sanity… pushing it to the side. You either love it or hate it, there’s no middle ground with this one. And it fits the theme of this compilation like ring in finger. 4- Baba Jelly – Zoe La Folesse * “Be wise, be safe… be aware” shows another jumble of madness with different beats from the Jellyheadz affair, which is of course very refreshing. Inside chopped and spliced orchestral movie samples blend with unfolding alien lines, comprehensible only by synesthesia. You are not really meant to whistle them, but to simply observe them. How? “[with]… the universal union that small minds called the combine can carry us there.” I don’t know you, but I love the samples this guy manages to dig. 5- Olien – Calamari Olien is a new German act spilling out night time madness to chill out beats. Like you can imagine this is the hectic side of the coin. For his first release the production is decent, even if a crisper definition would have helped the overall product. I have tried on numerous occasions to connect with the material, but it’s not gripping me at this point. Perhaps it is the track order. If so far the Mechanophobia is looking tasty to your ears, this one might be useful. The feel is definitely ‘forest’ here. 6- Metallaxis – Conclusion * Composed of Romolo from Polyphonia and Kulu from… Greece. Personally this duo has been redefining the meaning of abnormal with hard core and metal influences, entwined together deep within its roots. Far from concluding things, the sixth chapter is a take-no-prisoners affair, making more sense than an ancient Sumerian scroll to a blind person. In retrospect, it would be interesting to see a split album between these two freaks. As I’m sure the idea has been thought of before, the only delay might be letting the final material refine a bit more 7- Vicious Alchemy – End or Fin Baba Jelly plays well with others and this newest project is yet another collaboration, with Virginie Scheerens AKA Chrysalid. Virginie a label DJ for Trishula coming from France and currently residing in Britain, spins manic dark sets combined with her own vocals. She has been a vocalist since her teens studying jazz fusions. Unfortunately we don’t get a glimpse of her voice here, which might be what the dark psy world needs: a twisted version of Sonique at 150 BPM’s. Then again, it might not… what do I know? The cacophony in End or Fin (talk about an oxymoron) is appropriately disturbing but we get no high’s or lows here, it just sits like mesa while the progression remains minimal. Spinning this bad boy in conjunction with other material make the piece more accessible for grass floors. 8- Procs – Big Fat Snoring Lamas * The big fat snoring lamas (what great name), runs in the same vein as his debut album released last year. For all effective purposes we are still stuck in the oven with Mikke. The detuned, smirking lines and effects drizzle, offering a healthy doze of Procs’ take on mushroomed trance. The advantage is his reliance on musical themes, however perverted they might sound. The downside is not hearing something completely different from his sonic repertoire. If you liked the album this one is keeper. 9- Psyfactor – Vodka Madness * Dmitri Korablin has dared to change beat patterns a bit with his infamous triple kick, still focusing on ambivalent themes that swelter with sweet moments, and obscure Russian gothika like it could be expected. The riffy synth’s work well and the whole wobbly contraption of effects carries the track forward. I’m not in love with it, but it is definitely usable material. All in all Biomechanical fusions in every media have been abundant for years: counting H.R Giger’s infamous paintings, Shinya Tsukamot's film Tetsu The iron man , Mamoru Oshii’s anime adaptation of Kôkaku kidôtai (Ghost in the Shell). Far back in the past we might find Throbbing Gristle and the birth of industrial music, not forgetting William Gibson’s contribution to the literally world with Neuromancer. This perversely attractive fascination for mechanical-organic beings coexisting in a single artistic expression, wears a new mask in ‘dark’ psychedelic trance and Mechanophobia is simply an extension of this movement. We could be mimicking an ever more palpable misanthropist society… or simply revisiting the ‘chicken-or-the-egg’ question, daring to wonder if we are simply shaping our own reality instead.
