I also remember those days, I'm glad they are over... To be hones I never liked minimal and I also don't like progressive too much. So there were a view times I was quite disappointed at a party because they didn't play "my" music. But of course I feel also sorry for you now if you don't finde decent parties. Here in Switzerland there are still enough parties with minimal/progressive psy played. The DJ have started to mix psy minimal with techno/house minimal and create a new flow in their sets. So I personally don't think minimal is dead.
-
@ eleira: Thanks for the info. I really can't get into progressive music, so not only our opinions but also our tastes are very different. Maybe it is also because of this, that you don't dig the idea of concept albums? It is maybe not suitable for progressive and minimal music? Just a theory btw...

I just wonder which are your favourite psy artists or songs? We also have a very diffenrent view about the psy home listening topic (which is of course not negative!! ) and so I'm quite curious about what you like. I personaly like everything full-on and/or melodic. Old stuff like Hallucinogen or Pleiadians but also new stuff like Infected Mushroom, full-on from the Agitato label, Vibe Tribe and so on.
-
That can be true. But I think if the track is really good it can be felt without thinking.
-
I completely see your point. But just because an album is made as an concept album this doesn't mean it is only for homelistening and thinking. If it is really a good album it should be possible to play a track out of it at a party and people going mad and dancing to it like crazy. Without knowing the concept of the album and what the tracks wants so say. Maybe if they know the concept they will feel the vibe and what the artist wanted to say with it (or even they can even feel it without knowing).

I have to check at home whis is really my favourite, but I like colourfull old-school stuff. The Twisted cover is nice, Classical Mushroom and Synergy also. And of course the Space Tribe covers! Newer stuff I like is Synsun, very dark but I like monsters. Or the Pure Planet compilation, Ethereal and so on. I guess you get the picture...
-
To each his/her own of course. If there is music I don't like to listen to at home I will also not enjoy it on the dancefloor very much. If it's not my taste I can listen to it at a party for some time but I don't enjoy dancing to it. And taking drugs doesn't change that at all. Of course sometimes I hear tracks at parties and see another side of them because they are played loud and because I see the people react to them. After this I also enjoy homelistening. But most of the time parties don't make boring musig better for me.

Maybe this is your point of view but I also listen to trance a lot at home or at work and I like my music to be a bit more than just dancefloor friendly. And I think that it is really possible to make music that is good for the dancefloor and also good to listen at home. The 1200 Mics albums for example fit for me at home and also at parties. And for me they are also more than just some random music with drug samples, the tracks give me feelings that machtes the drugs. But again that's personal taste. I just think it is very necessary that psy doesn't limit itself just to get the dancefloor jumping around nuts. I mean there are so much artists it should not be so difficult to make different kinds of psy.

I like concept CDS a lot, doesn't matter if they are done by one artist or if it's an compilation. I mean the two 1200 Mics albums are both conecpt albums, one about drugs and one about important scientists / science. I like them a lot (but that's a matter of taste of course) and I also like Mystery Of the 13 Crystal Skull a lot. There would be so many possibilities for concept albums: the space (p different planets, the sun, the moon, rockets...), diffenrent ages (ancient rome and greek, age of the dinosaurs, the future), different countries, heaven & hell... This could be very chalengeing for the artists and I hope there will be more concept albums soon. But I don't have a clue if artists are interestend in doing them.

OMFG!! That's what I call my cup of chai... *dancingaroundintheoffice* The samples sound amazing, full-on but somehow old-school and with lots of melodies. Verrrry nice, can't wait to hear the full album.
-
Wooow, this album sounds very promising! I hope they will be samples available soon. I didn't know that the two of you have a label, but I wish you all the luck you can get! I realy believe in what you do, may there be lots of releases from you.

Thanks for the info, I guess I allready have some Noom vinyls, have to listen to them again then!
-
Oh yeah, I love Bassline Baby, even if I know only two tracks: Stud Stunner and Altered States. Especially Altered States is amazing, it reminds me a bit of Green Nuns Of The Revolution stuff. Do you know more acid artists that make tracks in the same style?
-
Nope, for me it's still a masterpiece, but to each his own.
-
I remember another one: Sun Collector from Switzerland. They are not well-known outside Switzerland I think but when I saw them about two years ago they where great. Playing live instruments like dodgeridoo and guitars.
-
I haven't seen that much live acts during my party days. I just can remeber Asia 2001 and Space Cat, but this was at the very beginning of my wild party phase, so I can't remember if they were just djing or really playing live. Anyway, I liked both but I didn't know how "famous" they are. The other liveacts were all progressive psy I didn't appreciate.

High-quality releases need time I guess. But as long as the Twisted releases continue to be as good as ever I don't mind waiting. But still, I'm really looking forward for US2, the trackslist looks amazing.

Psywise this has been a very good year so far, so my list will be quite long: Audiotec - Magic Of Love v/A - Timeles (very emotional full-on psy, not typically GMS sounding) Spacecat - Mechanical Dream (new full-on with old-school touch) Infected Mushroom - IM The Supervisor (even if a lot of people bitch about IM I really love their new album, great twisted melodies) Synsun - Symphonic Adventures (great classical psy) Misted Muppets - From The Legend (very epic trance) Blue Vortex - Mirage (very nice melodies from this Swiss project) Silent Sphere - Dance (not as good as Blue Vortex but still very nice melodic psy) Electronic Universe - Cosmic Experience (much better than the last album) One I nearly forgot: v/A - Blue Leprechaun (full-on but somehow calm and not too busy, nice melodies) Talpa - The Art Of Being None (I've just heard the samples, but they blew me away. Can't wait until I have this album in my hands.) So, that's all I can remember right now. Maybe there is more to come when I'm at home.

Kai Tracid (a German trance/techno Artist) has released an acid trance EP called Trance & Acid. The song on it with the same name has some acid parts. I don't know if this is your style, maybe it is to commercial, cheap or clubby, but to give it a listen wouldn't hurt you I think. It was released after 200 I think. His other tracks (at least the ones I know) are more trance oriented.

I also like the 303 sound a lot. It is a very strong effect and it would be nice to hear some new songs using the 303 machine. One of the tracks on the new IM album has also 303 effects (or something that sounds similar to my ears) and I really love that. If you use the effects with a bit of variety and not always using the same effect, it will sure be possible to creat new stuff. Anyway, tell me when there are any news on your albums, it sounds very promising!

I don't mind vocals in psy, in fact if added right to a psy song they can be really catchy and push you in another dimension. It alsways depends on how much vocals are added. Small parts or some mystical chants sound great to me. But I don't know if I would like a psy song with vocals througout the whole track. On the other hand it could also be very interesting to hear something like that.

I got my copy of One Love some weeks ago from some regular online shop here in Switzerland. It should be no problem to get another CD if you anyone needs one.
-
Has somebody here ever tried to start a full-on gig with a short sequenze from a chill out track? Just to calm down the dancers and then to start the madness with something full-on crazy. That's what I would do, but I don't know if this would work.
-
Ha, this sounds great!!! And in about a bit more than two weeks I will see IM live. So I hope their show will be as great as the one you've seen. Too bad they played only one track from Classical Mushroom, I hope they change this a bit and do some old stuff. But the remixes from other side sound interesting. Well, I will see... *countingthedays*

Your Favorite Simon Posford Album
Tatsu replied to Frontier Psychiatrist's topic in General Psytrance
And the In Dub albums is also not by Simon. As much as I know all the tracks are remixed by Ott.
