About MTV and IM: As much as I know, it is not uncommon that IM is played in the Isreali MTV. The Isrealy psytrance as Astrix and IM seems to be very hip there, but as much as I know not in the rest of Europe. I've never seen anything like IM on MTV. But I would really appriciate it to be hones. I mean I like their music and if something like this is on MTV it is ok for me. And if they make a lot of money with it, so what?! I congratulate them and if I will also like their future releases, I'll buy them (and if I don't like them, of course I wont buy them). No matter if they are on MTV or not. It would be good for MTV to bring some new fresh styles. I mean anyone remember British MTV when they used to play all the new rave/dance tracks at the beginning of the 90ies? MTV used to be so cool then, underground stuff like the Shamen (who entered the charts after), Messiah, Altern8 and so on. Damn, those were the days... It could be the same with IM.

The rumour is indeed a fact. Flying Rhino went bankrupt and is closed down now. So no more releases from them.

Another band I don't dig is S-Range. I bought their album 2001 when it came out and was really disappionet. Some days ago I've listened to it again and i have to say, that I still don't like it.

Well, if the really give up Shpongle, maybe Simon will at last find time to make another Hallucinogen album. But we'll see, I think they will make another chill-out project.
-
For me also Electric Universe. To be honest I haven't heard the Jupiter 8000 album, but it just can't be better than Electric Universe. What style is Jupier 8000?

Of course it is all about personal taste. But I think it is a good thing when there are new albums that sound a bit like old IM. Even if the style is the same, I think that these albums still sound original and different enough. And I also prefere artists and albums in the old IM style than those GMS clones. I mean it seems to be a little trend to make IM like music, but there are still not that much releases in that style. It could even be more for me...

I totally agree with you Krelmatix. I guess the point of original goa trance was or is to tell a story with the songs. So the technical side of mixing didn't get much attention. I think in the psy-scene it is still a little bit like that, more about the music, less about the mixing skills. But I think this is a bit a error because nowadays nearly nowbody tries to tell a story with the music. It's more about bringin the latest hits to the crowd. But I have to add, that there are still enough DJs outthere that know what they are doing. And about which style is easier to mix: every style has its own difficulties. I DJ a little at home, just for fun, and also different style. Trance has of course a much easier build up than psy or drum'n'bass. But if you play melodic trance you can beatmatch perfect and still fuck the mix up because the melodies of the track don't fit together. On the other hand psy can be easy to mix because there is so much going on in the songs that people can't hear the beginning of the new song. But of course it can also be a disaster if you try to mix in at the wrong part...

I know a lot of you guys (and galls!!) don't like him but I've heard Yahel two times mixing at parties and it was just great. Very good technique as fas as I can tell and also the tunes he was playing where making the crowd going mad. But both parties where about 2 or 3 years ago, don't know how has it with mixing nowadays.

Well, I got the new IM album about a week ago and I have to say I really love it. More full-on than Converting Vegetarian and also BP Empire. The tracks are really danceable and they are very energetic and powerfull. I don't mind the lyrics. In fact I really love the dancehall like vocals in track 3. As also mentioned in Bombattt's review there are some wicked melodies that reminds me on Classical Mushrooms. So far (in my opinion of course) this is the second best album after CM. If they release more tracks like this, I'll be happy.

Those samples sound amazing!!!! I'll immediately buy this album... And btw, I also like the new IM album. So seems we have the same taste...

I don't know this Space Monkey track, but I don't think Power Of Celtic is awfull. I like it quite a lot, so maybe try to give it a listen anyway...
-
For me it's also Twisted, easy decision o be honest...
-
I haven't heard the new Miraculix but the Talamsca album is ok. It has some nice tracks on it but it's not something special. The well known Talamasca style ist what you get. If you like Zodiac you will also probably like this one.

Maybe you want to try out the Celtic Cross album, it's ambient but it has some celtic influences. And there is a track on the compilations Lightbeams (Shiva Space Technology) called Yahel On Yƶrg: Naushka with some celtic influences (if I remember right).

Really funny you are from Switzerland, I think there are not many Swiss here in the forum. Anyway, maybe you mean this track: Nissimyani vs. The Melovskiys - Fir Cough, it' son the compilation Red from Tip World. But it doesn't have that much vocals. Maybe you want to give it a try anyway.

A also like some of the stuff released on Spun. Some of they compilations I like a lot, but not everything is good. I also like most of the stuff from Agitato, it's full on but not boring. There are also a lot of smaller labels that realese stuff I like: AP Records, Timecode, Utopia Records... I'm very happy about that! So far 2004 seems to be a very good year for me (at least when looking at the musical side).

Since I had to let one of my CDJs get repaired the jogwheel is also harder to spin than before. But I wouldn't dare to open up that thing by myself, so I have to deal with two different jogwheels. I got used to it very fast and I don't mind mixing like this. So how did your reparation work, did you really fix it yourself?
-
To be honest I'm a bit like that. I judge very fast if I like a psy song or not. Sometimes even just after hearing some samples. But I can tell why everytime. The main reason to like or dislike a psy or trance song are the melodies. If the song is to progressive and doesn't have much melodies the chance is high that I don't like it. Or if the melody doesn't suit me I also give the most songs a second chance. On the other hand if I hear a melody that moves me, I fall in love immediately with a song.

Well, it's all about personal taste you know...

I feel the same sometimes, but more with hip-hop albums than with psy. I have some psy albums I should listen to again now because I didn't really liked them after buying. But im too lazy... ;-) Nowadays it's more that I listen to some samples and if I don't like them I don't give the album a new chance. Unleass I would hear the music at a party or at somebody else's home and like it then. Quite small minded and lazy, I know. But I'm allready spending enough money for records, so why buy stuff to grow on me when there is enough stuff that suits me from the beginning.

Yahel - Waves Of Sound Infected Mushroom - Classical Mushroom Shpongle - Are You Shpongled? Hallucinogen - Twisted The fifth is tricky for me at the moment, maybe a comp like Space Mantra or something new like the Misted Muppets, Synsun or Blue Vortex album. I go for Psysex - Expression Of Rage but there is so much great stuff out there.
-
Can you maybe remember any of the vocals? There are a lot of tracks with vocals I know.
-
@ seraph: I have to listen to the Planet BEN album again, I can't exactly remember how it sounds. I just can remember that I wasn't that impressed when listening to it the last time. But I guess I won't sell it anyway for the collection worth of it... Otherwise I'll contact you.

As allready said in the reviews section this is one of the best albums this year. You just have to check it out!

Like the majority on this board (at least regarding on the poll so far) I started to listen to psy in 2001. At this time I started to visit trance/techno parties and then a friend of mine took me to the first psy partie. It was a smaller private partie and one of the organisators was the brother of my friend. It was also my friend's first party and we were amazed how different the vibe and the people were. I didn't care a lot about the music to be honest but for about a year or something we went to a party nearly every weekend. Mostly outdoor parties and we really enjoyed this time! I also started to get interessted by the music itself, searching in the internet for infos about the artists and everything (I also found this forum back then). Soon I also started to buy records and CDs and I still do this. I still listen to club trance and other electronical music, but I don't go to parties that much. This year for example I have only been to one psy party (but it was a real nice one!!) and to maybe 2 or 3 other parties. Seems like I'm getting old!
