Woow, that looks ace!!! My favourite at the momen is The Corner http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Corner it's from the same writers that did The Wire and Homicide. Unfortunately it features only six episodes but it really grapped me. It covers a year in the life of the people (well, drug addicts most of them) living around the corner of Lafayette Steet in Baltimore. If's based on a non-fiction book and in the very last episode you see the real life characters talking about how they are now. I really recommend that one!

Paul Oakenfold vs Infected Mushroom - I'm Alive
Tatsu replied to Lemmiwinks's topic in General Psytrance
It's nice regular trance. Not mindblowing or totaly new but that's actually a tune I would buy on vinyl (haven't bought any trance vinyls in ages). -
Might very well be. But it seems he was not very interested in the work circumstances of his employes (Foxconn anyone?). As far as I can tell he wasn't any better than the rest of the people in his position so being a buddhist and droping acid didn't make much of a difference. That does of course not make his achievement for Apple any smaller. But being a successful CEO does not automatically make you a good person.

I don't know if people still update their discogs account but Senobyte "only" has 851 items in it (if it's even his account anyway). Wasn't able to find Melancorypha but Ukiro is up to 3857 items. I think he takes the cake so far.

It's a genre of uplifting trance, don't know if it's still popular these days. This is my favourite track just in case you wanna give it a try:

I sold an on old Nitzonot album für 70 Euros. And I don't even feel like I ripped the buyer off since I let him make the price.

The Gaudium album really is good. But the Osher one is even better. Best progressive release this year imho. You have to check it out if you don't know it.

From what I can tell, most people here agree with you about it no being possible to not be inspired by other artists. At least I do. It's still not the same as copying to me. And I never the less still think that especially the Classical Mushroom stands out as being unique. Same as their overall sound has a uniqueness to me. Thanks for taking the time to look for examples. But don't hurry... I hope nobody you know got hurt or killed in Norway?

Went on a shopping spree and bought 50 CDRs and an CD-bag for 96 CDs. I'm going to start burn tracks I could use to mix. Time to give DJing another try.... And I bought three albums: Gaudium - Session Of Progression not on discogs yet?! I'm pretty curious about it, didn't even listen to it before I bought it but Sideffect loves it and the goalady at the store recommends it too. Both match my taste as far as I know. Yahel - Shut Up (Phonokol) http://www.discogs.com/Yahel-Shut-Up/release/2498411 Bought it for the good old times. But I have to say I like it so far (playing it right now). Very trancey and not psyish but I like trance. Osher - Twilight (Blue Tunes) http://www.discogs.com/Osher-Twilight/release/2770851 Took a short preview at the store and it sounded nice. And yesterday I bought this: Daft Punk - Tron Legacy Soundtrack (WaltDisney Records) http://www.discogs.com/Daft-Punk-TRON-Legacy-Original-Motion-Picture-Soundtrack/release/2626544 The movie was awesome and so was the music. I wonder how it works without the images of the music but as stand-alone.
-
I have to agree with you here. I like the general feeling of the track (maybe due to the fact that I start to enjoy house music lately9. It gives me a warm and sunny feeling. It could be more psychedelic but I'm keeping an eye on their album now. I wonder how the rest will sound.
-
Damn, those samples are boring. I don't mind listening to clubby, commercial, hands in the air "psy"trance. Depending on my mood I even love it. I also love vocals, house influences or cheesy samples. But this is just, well I don't know even what to call it. Boring to my ears, that's for sure.

To hear what you hear it would be a big help if you make more specific references. Obviously people perceive music differently so imho there is no real right or wrong from my point of view. But for a real debate I personaly do need specific examples, otherwise I won't not even be able to give it a try to hear what you hear. I mean especially AP has lots of releases out, which songs are for you the ones that inspired IM for their Classical Mushroom album? I said it before, I'm looking for stuff like CM for years now and I found some IM inspired stuff. But not stuff that was done before Classical Mushroom and sounded (to me I mean) like it inspired IM. Especially the use of real instruments (or synths sounding like that, whatever) and the electronical parts of the songs.
-
I do not doubt any of your knowledge nor do I say your opinion is wrong. I am just dieing to hear the songs that sound similar to the Classical Mushroom songs, so I can run out and buy them. The artists you mentioned so far are for me not coming close to the Classical Mushroom sound. Mainly because the CM album sounds way different than the works of Indoor or AP. Sure there are some similarities as you always have them when you compare albums or artists from the same genre but the connection is (for me) not as close as mentioned. So you would really do me a favour if you can give me some specific track names that you see as predecessors for the CM album.
-
Care to tell me which songs exactly are sounding like Classical Mushroom? I own the Indoor album but I never made the connection. Will give it another try tho. And as I said, I never even gotten into AP so they are very far from sounding like the Classical Mushroom album.

I went to visit my grandma on Sathurday and found three CDs in the local junk-shop: Shiva Chandra - Auricular (SpiritZone) http://www.discogs.com/Shiva-Chandra-Auricular/release/58568 v/A - Natural Born Techno (Nova Zembla) http://www.discogs.com/Various-Natural-Born-Techno-A-Nova-Zembla-Sampler/release/104214 v/A - Trance Anthology (Fairway Record) http://www.discogs.com/Various-Trance-Anthology/release/413259 I'm listening to Shiva Chandra right now, some nice sounds there but I'm mostly happy about the Trance Anthology album. It includes lots of old goa and trance tracks.

I don't know if it fits your taste since it is slower and softer than Nystagmus and Pleadians and also more progressive but it is highly melodic: I caught him live (while trippin...) and I was totally absorbed by his wall of sound. I bought his album later and also listening to it sobber puts it among my favourite releases. The tracks on Soundcloud are not my favourites, Looking Forward for example is really good imho. Check it on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qq8GkVkhC6E

Since you like the Lost & Found album. On the same party where they were playing there was another live act that was really good: CPU. I own his first album but more or less forgot about it over the years. But the live really was mindblowing. Lots of crazy but hard melodies, highly psychedelic and also lots of trippy noises and effects. I don't know if his newer albums live up to that gig but maybe you wanna give it a try. Funny enough I always thought the guy is from SA because of his music but after checking out discogs he is actually Swiss.
-
Not a week before the party, the weekend right before the first exam. Means party on Sathurday, first test on Monday morning.
-
I know it's kinda off-topic but after all this talk about Classical Mushroom I just found out that IM will play an old-school set in Switzerland in September. Unfortunately it takes place the weekend right before my final exams start. (I still think about going tho...)
-
Binary Finary? You make it sound like that is a bad thing.
-
Then please enlighten me from what specific songs Classical Mushroom was copied. I am looking for stuff that sounds exactly like that for ages. There were albums that were inspired by IM and came out after CM but before I could not name anything. From my point of view nobody in this thread claimed they invented the wheel as you call it. I also feel that the IM praysing is long gone anyway considering they make very different music now. Their combinations of sounds and effects were called unique, but to me that is hardly the same thing.
-
To me they were pioneers because of their combination of real instruments with their electronical style. I have not heard any album that does the combination on an equal level. Obviously combining those two elements is nothing new but to me it fits perfectly together. In the end this is also a matter of perceiving music. If I see something special in an album no logical argument can change that. Other artists have also an recognisable sound, that alone does not give me the same effect as the Classical Mushroom album for example. I fail to see why it seems to be so important to come to a general conclusion about IM or any other artist or why I should change the words that describe how I feel about some music.
