Woow, I personaly love it! Trippy creatures on the cover, the colors suit me. I'd love to have that picture as a poster to hang on my wall.

I just lately stumbled over this track (Sesto Sento remix of Message In A Bottle): http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=XTGXquRkKe4 Cheesy but it brings a fat smile to my face. Especially at 3.10 minutes and on. There's also a remix from Sesto Sento for Around The World by Daft Punk: http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=iRZURSmHCrk&feature=related

Yes, I own some tracks on vinyl and CD (more techno/minimal/whatever you call it, not psy/goa stuff) and to me the vinyl sounds indeed warmer. Then there is of course also the difference of analogue and digital as Elysium mentioned. It would be interesting to have a track in a digital version and an analogue one to hear the difference in direct comparison. Has anybody ever done something like that?

Yes, regional differences in labeling music are quite a thing. I live in Switzerland and here parties playing psychedelic music are still labeled as Goa Parties. Even when the music that is played there can range from progressive, full-on of all kinds, dark psy, psytrance and even old real Goa. It's the common word that is used to label the parties since it is connected to the general groove o of the party, means the decoration and the additude and what not. The word goa is also used to describe the music, as for example if somebody asks me what kind of music I'm listening to (at work for example) I just say Goa and they have the image of what I listen to. Even when the music playing is not Goa in the technical way but stuff like progressive or full-on. Obviously I talk with somebody that is actually into this kind of music we use the exact terms like progressive or whatever it is. But explainig detailed terms to somebody that is not listening to the music is confusing and they might get the wrong image. On the other hand if I were in another country I would definitely not use the Goa expression as a generalisation since I think the people there would not make the same assumption about what it means like the people here do. Totaly agree to the first part! I mean those labesl come in handy if you are looking for recommendations or if you talk about music. But in the and it is just a label and they are imho sometimes flow together at certain points or with certain artists so if I like a tune I can live with it if some people call it goa or others psy. It's good music anyway. And about the music melting together: I just went to a party that was labeled as playing old techno tracks from the beginning of the nineties until the end of the nineties. This included stuff like old hard-core (one of the Djs they got was a former member of Altern8) to old vocal trance (if that is the correct label anyway but we call it like that here), hard-trance, goaish stuff and what not. The tracks were not only so varied because there were different DJs with different sets of vinyls according to their taste but also the single sets mixed the styles. I got told that this was how parties used to be back in the days (I wasn't going out back then). And I have to say I love that! Who cares about the genre names if the music is great. For me personaly (which means it is by no means a matter of fact term) the Twisted album is Goa and The Lone Deranger is Psy. To me the LSD track is the essence of Goa (again, for me!). That does not mean that all the tracks labeled as Goa sound similar or sound like LSD, some are darker and what not. Obviously this is a personal thing and if you label Hallucinogen not with Goa you will have your reasons. But I don't understand how an artist who calls himself Hallucinogen can not be Goa (beause of the name, not the style). What has the artist name to do with the style? Sure you can take some hints if an artist choose the name Goasia for example but just because the term Goa is not used it means nothing imho. I guess it depends on how you interpret failed. He failed to please the user whose post you commented on. But I doubt there is an artist who manages to please everone and their pets since different people have different taste so... But I have to say the E-Clip does not remind me at all about Hallucinogen or IM as somebody stated before. I like his music but I did not have the impression he wanted to copy any of those artists. Or if he wanted he failed since he didn't sound similar to me at all.

I love the Artha album too and I did not feel like it was too clean. But maybe this comes from the fact that I haven't been properly listening to my vinyls. To me, music on vinyl always sounds warmer and less polished. I vaguely remember discussions going on (I think also in this in this forum) about vinyls vs. cd and there were other people who had the same perception. Maybe the problem then is not only the production that makes the music sound so clean (I don't have a clue about sound engineering so I can just guess obviously) but maybe also the fact that none of the new goa is released on vinyl anymore?
-
Maybe it is not only about the scene being rather fresh but also most of the artists being rather young? I mean you do have Ra but there are others that are not making music that long. So imho it is somehow logical that they are still getting into it, bringin in their own ideas but using given paterns. Over time it will be easier for them (or even necessary since they might get bored otherwise) to evolve the style with new paterns. Sure you can say argue that then maybe they should not release their stuff but even when given paterns are used I personaly enjoy that music. Means I'm glad there are 15 or whatever figure it is realeases per year. On the other hand I also understand when some people think it's boring because they know the old Goa stuff for years now and wait for an improvement (improvement not in the sense of full-on or progressive that came out of the scene but improvement in the patterns of an existing style).

That's exactly what I just said. I'm attending classes to get a diploma in business science, I'm familiar with the therms.
-
I can't only name one but my favs are Infected Mushroom - Classical Mushroom, Spacecat - Mechanical Dream, Hallucinogen - Twisted, Reefer Decree - Point Of You and surprisingly (at least for me it was a surprise...) Lish - Freefall.
-
Of course. But it's still being far from mass production. Anyway, I will stop nitpicking now.
-
By definition mass production is not everything that is not unique: http://www.investorwords.com/3003/mass_production.html. Which does of course not mean that you have to like the price, as you said: to each his own.

Yeah, check your PM instead of posting new pics.

Well, as long as I haven't seen any of their balance sheets or massive publicity in any regular record store for their releases I doubt they are actually making excessing profit in general. Even if they would be able to sell all of those masks. I could very well imagine, that they really need to money to keep the label runing. I mean how many releases of an album do get sold in the end? Exactly what I wanted to say. I personaly would just replace the term "underground" with "good" (as in good from personal point of view ). I don't care if that is labeled as underground or not. Obviously it is, but if they need money to keep it going it is rather logical they will not sell it for a regular price. Since that wouldn't bring them enough money but only as much money as their regular items. Imho this goes more into the direction of a donation that will give you a little benefit (the mask).
-
They obviously need money if they want to run Twisted Records, I fail to see why this is bad. I understand when a musician or label wants to be able make his living with his music. You're free to not order any merchandise... Imho it would be worse if they would release music just for the sake of money, which they are imho not. Because if they would we wouldn't be waiting for a third Hallucinogen album for years now or they wouldn't evolve (for example) Younger Brother's style with every album but relase the same-same generic music. Not that I want to order that mask btw.

I could imagine this goes quite well. My mom always played records when I was a baby. Well, not to put me asleep but when she was doing the housework. Mostly rock from the 60ies and 70ies (Deep Purple, Steppenwolf, Pink Floyd, Stones and what not) and later whatever came into her hands. It was great to grow up with music (good music ), so go for it!!

Fuck her to psytrance... 'nuff said! :phear:

I'm still very interested in trance but the same old discussions about who's personal taste is the best and stuff are just boring to me. I rather go to parties or buy new records than talking about it.

Funny, that's the game I played yesterday. So much fun! It's been like 10 years or something since I last played with my S-Nes. I must try to reconnect it to my tv somehow....
-
I think I need to give Bloodlines a shot again too. But for me Castlevania - Symphony Of The Night (PS1) is on the same level as Castlevania IV. Those were the last good Castlevania games. The newer ones, in 3D, don't move me at all. It's just not the same again.
-
I also still have my S-Nes, but I can't get it to work with my TV (stupid TV doesn't find the channel...). There are so many great games... I managed to finish Zelda but not Super Metroid. Maybe I should give it another try, it was just such a fucking great game! I also liked Super Mario World (finished), Castlevania IV (finished) and F-Zero.

Oh my god, it works!!!

In Switzerland Full-On is also still popular. But so is Progressive and especially Dark Psy. And Minimal. At the moment it's not hard do find any style at a party you want. Once in a while there are even old-school parties... And from my experience you have some of those bimbo/gang types att all kind of parties (I'm talking about indoor parties since outdoor season hasn't started yet so I can't tell), not only full-on. But back to the topic: have you tried the releases from ZMA Records (Zillion Mental Anarchists)? They were releasing minimal stuff back then. I can't tell if it is from the good kind or from the boring kind of minimal since that minimal style is totally not my cup of tee.

I guess I fit that profile but I still don't have a clue what the artist want to say with that cover. But lesbian scissoring seems to be a bit way off. I mean look at the picture. I'm not 100% sure but to me it more looks like the girl on the left is sitting on top of the right one, folding one leg over her own knee. It's actually hard to tell since the legs are so twisted. But scissoring should work different imho.
