  1. I personally don't believe in the stuff you wrote above (stuff breaking because of braging about it and what not). I don't have any evidence or hard facts to not believe it but how I percieve the world this is not how it is for me. I do agree that sometimes you get what you sow but I also see a lot of people get away with shitloads of bad stuff so it's not like an universal rule for me. I als don't believe in a higher deity that cares what you personally do on a daily basis. Mainly becuase it does not make any sense for my personal understandig of the world that there should be a deity caring about stuff like that while it does not seem to care about the bigger stuff going wrong in the world like westerners getting all the benefits and letting other countries pay for it (which is a very, very recuded explanation of what is going on in the world but this thread is not about politics so I'm not getting into it). I'm aware that just because I don't believe in something it does not have to mean it really doesn't exist but that's the point about religion and spiritiuality, it's not about knowing but about believing and I just can't believe in a god or even a deity like that.
  2. I can just speak for myself but for me that "root of evil" thing when it comes to organised religions comes from the countless wars (and other bad things like with hunt, inquisition, crusades or just the hassles in daily live for non-believers) in the past but also nowadays wars that are or were done in the name of the right god, the right believes or whatever. I personaly think that those believes are just an alibi for the real causes of the wars, like ressources and the usual stuff. Still, sending people into war for god sounds way better. Another thing is the daily brainwashing that is going on. Since childhood the believes of your regional religion get pushed into you and are named as the ultimate truth. I personally don't believe in god but I also think your believes (or what you don't believe) should come from your inside and in the end it's none of the other people's business. Still lots of people are just believers because it's common, because that's what they grew up with or what not. You get married in the church or get your baby babtised because that's the thing to do, not because you have the inner feeling of believing in the ritual. With lots of stuff (gay rights, how a family should be structured, the rules of men and women in society) the religious believes (god wants this and that, the bible (or the koran, or whatever other sources there are, depending where you live)) are named as points why other people should behave in a certain way. I personally don't mind if somebody believes that being gay is a sin and acts accordingly for his own life. But I fail to see why I should act accordingly to other people's believes since I don't feel like a god exists, and for sure not one that actually cares who is fucking with whom while on the other side of the earth people are dieing from starvation and while so much other shit is going on in our world. For me personally organised religions were made up to keep people under controle. And it seems to work quite fine, either you act accordingly or this and that happens. None of it is proofable or disproofable but the less educated the people are the bigger is their fear. Another reason why I can't take organised religion in the way I know it seriously is the way it was created. Lofs of christian believes, figures, festivities, and legends are based on older religions. They were melted together to make Christianity attractive as offical believe in certain regions and that people would convert. I also think it's laughable if an institution like the catholic church (for example, the other institutions are not better or worse, the principle is more or less the same) sets high standarts what people should do but don't care to live by them themselves. That does not mean that, in christianity for example, every story in the bible is idiotic or people like Franz von Assisi are assholes. By far not, you can get good points from those believes and there were figures in the past who were amazing. But the whole concept of an organised religion is a scam for me.
  3. Maybe it is a bit of a regional thing how a certain sound is called but the artists I mentioned belong to the trance genre and their releases were sold under that label back in the days. Techno was way less melodic and uplifting back then. I can't come up with a suggestion to hear the difference since I wasn't into it. I also can't make any suggestions for other Trance artists since I don't really know what sound you are looking for.
  4. Here in Switzerland you can order books directly in the bookstore. Maybe you could do the same since you don't like online shopping? I'm sure the Simone de Beauvoir books aren't out of print so they should be available, even when they are not on stock directly in the shops. My latest disocveries are Yesterday's Streets by Silvia Tennenbaum, it's the story of Jewish family around the world wars, it gets compared to the Buddenbrocks and I have to say it's awesome. The books from Stefanie Zweig go into the same direction, they are not as good as Yesterday's Street but still worth reading imho. Btw. are you registered at librarythings.com? I love that page, you can register and then add the books you've read or want to read. You can add 200 books, if you need more you have to pay. Which I did and I like it a lot. You can compare your collection to collections from other people, look for recommendations and what not. Here's my collection if you want to sneak around: http://www.librarything.com/catalog/Stampfi-Gang/allcollections
  5. Uplifting club-trance artists from Europe around 1995-2005? There are shitloads of them and, if you like the style, lots of very good releases. I was into trance before I discovered psy/goa so here are a few names from different countries (the Dutch were a leading force back in the day btw): Ayla, DJ Tandu, DJ Mind-X, DJ Tatana, Airwave, Binary Finary, Paragliders, Tiesto, Ferry Corsten, ATB, Rank 1, Armin van Buuren, Mauro Picotto, Thrillseekers, Jürgen Vries, YOMC, Cosmic Gate, Kaycee, Diver & Ace...
  6. I sure remember him. The older albums are not really my cup of tea but I like the Mr. Clubtrance album (I hope I got the name right). It sounds like it is named but that's fine for me. There also is a track done with Yahel on it and it's quite good (if you like that type of music).
  7. I agree about the idea that people should stay open-minded and give influences in music a chance. But for me personally dubstep and psy just don't work. At least not in those tracsk that I have heard so far. It really ruins my vibe at a party and I also don't dig that stuff for homelistening. I also fail to see the psychedelic side of those influences so they don't make any sense to me. I have the impression that (I can only talk about the tracks I heard so far) those influences come from a commercial point of view. Dubstep has been commercialised and lots of releases sound similar, same as with lots of psy/prog stuff. No wonder those two get mixed together.
  8. He had a project called Green House Effect with the album Global Warming. It's way softer than his normal stuff and I like it a lot. But it surely does not fit the category of rough music.
  9. In theory a foggy winter day is very beautiful, especially on the countryside. But practially spoken i get depressed if have to spend too many days without sunshine and only fog and darkness. Also because in the city the snow gets dirty and wet really fast so it doesn't even look nice.
  10. Tatsu

    Heavy metal.

I went to a few hardrock and metal concerts when I was in my teens (Guns'n'Roses, Sepulture, Faith No More...) and enjoyed the music a lot. Nowadays I still like harder rock stuff but I rarely buy albums. Some exeptions: second Billy Talent album, 10'000 Fists by Disturbed, Passenger by Passenger,l Soilwork by Figure Nr. 5, some Rammstein... I somehow lack the time to dig for the good stuff but I used to be in the same office with a guy going crazy for all sorts of banging rock. He showed me lots of nice stuff.
  11. I finally bought new psy album: Liquid Soul - Revolution (Iboga) Ovnimoon - Trancemutation Of The Mind Filteria - Lost In The Wild Wasn't able to give any of them a listen but soon...
  12. And you are right with that thinking. But you don't seem to get that same as you are free to behave as you like (to a certain extend, like within the forum rules for example) the people here are free too. Free to not respond to topics they don't care for, free to ignore people the can't get along with and also ignore their threads, free to not post in threads about the same artists they know allready for 10 or 20 years, or even free to generally ignore off topic.
  13. Yeah, I'm having the Barock-Cycle in my head but at the moment I lack the time for such a "project". Btw. There are some more books that might fit you: the biography of Simone De Beauvoir. It's non-fictional obviously but besides talking about her life she also describes the social environment of the different times she lived in (after WW1, before WW2, during WW2, the fifties and the sixties...) and analyses the society and the political situation. She also wrote novels, I haven't read all of the them but The Mandarins is very good (about the clima in post-war France). The first part of her biography is called Memoirs of a Dutiful Daughter btw.
  14. Again? Same question in the same thread?! --->
  15. One Psynews gathering for a party actually did take place once. We met up in London in 2006 to go to the 10 years Twisted Records Label party and lots of members did turn up. Something like that (it doesn't have to be a single party, it could also be a Festival or whatever) would be easier to manage than travelling, meeting up and then organise something by ourselves.
  16. No need to expand this consversation, I totally agree about that.
  17. What exactly is our Problem Radi? I didn't state any expectation about you being head over heals about my opinion. I even wrote it's totally up to you what you do with it. Think about it or let it be. But if the only outcome of that thinking is that everybody who doesn't share your opinion about your behaviour is being dishonest, plain mean or picking on you because it's so much fun then that's just sad. Have you ever considered that people critizise you because they actually think you would be a nice guy to interact with if you were able to tone it down a bit?
  18. Well, you were having a discussion in an public online forum about stuff linked to that thread. I added my opinion about that and that's it. What you do with that opinion is your Thing alone.
  19. Actually you complained about lots of replies here. Because nobody gave you any actual advice, because nobody replied within two hours after you posted your Picture, because you only got negative comments and what not. I understand it's not easy to read stuff like that about your behaviour, especially if you get told the same stuff again and again over time by different people. But if you deny that there is not at least a tiny little bit of truth in what ion1zed wrote, then maybe you should read your last reply. You react in the way he said you generally behave. In the end this is just a forum and as you pointed out People can simply ignore you. So who cares? But I'm going to be a mean asshole right now: if you fail to improve your dealing with other people I predict you will not reach lots of your goals in life. In the end this is your Problem but if people take the time to again and again point out what you could improve, even if they are not nice, it would not be inapropriate to really think about it instead of playing the victim. Like that you are not taking the responsibility for your actions and in the end you will suffer from that. Mainly because you will have to deal with the consequences anyway while we can simply ignore you.
  20. Ok, I see. I also prefere reading books in English so I do understand that. But especially with Eco it would be great to read it in the original language I think. But that's simply not possible with Italian books for me. I did read Anathem actually. It's been a while and I only remember parts of it, but I do remember that I liked it a lot. Noah Gordon is nice too. I read the Medicus (or whatever it is called in English), also recommendable. I myself I'm very interested in the period around the World Wars. Therefore I can recommend Thomas Mann - Magic Mountain and also Erich Maria Remarque (Nothing New On The Western Front and Heaven has no Favourites I like best). I take ti you know The Perfume by Patrick Süsskind, imho also great. I checked The Abominable but somehow the story doesn't really grap my attention. I'd rather re-read Quicksilver since I once started, then lost the plot because I didn't have time to continue reading.
  21. What's so bad about reading Eco in Swedish? I prefere books in their original language but in the end I can't really read books in another language than German or English and since Eco is an italian guy I take it Italian is the language the book was written in. Btw. if you like The Name of the Rose I would recommend to check Eco's other books, most of them are linked with historical events/times or whatever you wanna call it. Are you also interested in historical novels that play before and during the world wars? If yes I can highly recommend The Buddenbrocks by Thomas Mann and Yesterday's Streets by Silvia Tennenbaum. I didn't realise Simmons has a new book out. Terror was great but Cryptonomicon is my favourite so far. Will check The Abominable out then! Thanks for pointing it out.
  22. Instead of bitching about other people's opinions (for which you even asked yourself) and their grammar you would better put your time and effort into your page.
  23. You can also add graphics (logos, regular pictures) that are not using flash or java.
  24. In my book it's about ego if you demand that the user of a forum have to comment on your projects or your topics/post. Especially if they not only have to comment but give a specific kind of reply. But anyway, I can give you some replies about the good and the bad parts of the page you posted: Good points: the colors are nice; instead of other samples of your writings that you have posted earlier you actually cared to spellcheck Bad points: you pointed out several times that you will create an astonishly looking page, it will be impressive and what not. As I said before the colors are nice but if you use so big words I expect something really special. The design looks rather dated and there are no graphics. Not that this is a bad thing per se but I was expecting something different after reading what you wanted to do (something that has a very high standart when it comes to the design).
  25. That's what I mean: people were commentin on your project before but you didn't like the comments since nobody praised you, so you don't see those comments as advice. So why should we continue to comment if our opinions are only rated as advice if they agree with your view?
