Yes. But this is old news. Sad only because they used to be good, which is really why they are closing if you think about it.

VIBRASPHERE - LIME STRUCTURE HUMAN BLUE - ELECTRIC ROUNDABOUT Mmmm.... these two are very good too. Lots of smooth progressive sunshiny moments. Especially Lime Structure. Great for a long drive on a sunny afternoon.

If you like Freq, check out the latest Lish album.

Lish rocks... one of the best cd's I've got in a while. Very smooth prog.

The look on that girl's face is priceless.

"The real disturbing thing is that it actually sells!" Yes, I no. But who is buying? The customer base is changing I think. As an example. There is a local club night I used to go to fairly regularly. It was pretty cool. Good mix of people etc. Now I go and it's like a gay bar with a heathly smattering of ravers and party people and the odd hippie trying to hang on to what once was. It's a bit depressing actually. The vibe is... lacking.

I remember when any new release from one of a few (all respectable) labels was something to at least check out. Now, I check the new releases on Saikosounds and I think: what label is that? What artist is that? Not that all new artists or labels are bad. Fresh ideas are always a good thing, but now that Psytrance has become totally cd oriented, I'm getting the feeling that it's just too dam easy to produce cds. Every tit with a few thousand bucks and some spare time can get a computer and crank out a cd with a weird photoshoped cover and some totally original promo text: "Billy Bob discovered psytrance when he was 16 and played the piano since he was 12... he travelled to GOA and then became a DJ (like that's some sort major achievement) now you can hear his stunning musical ideas unfold on his debut cd 'Super Crazy Peshotlamdebeon.' This one's for the dance floor folks. Let's Light It Up." Ummm, yeah right. Your local 'I just became a DJ last month' DJ may play one song from the album for a week or two, but you'll never hear of that shit again, and nobody will be searching for that album on Ebay 5 years from now... Oh, and let's not forget the rave reviews it will receive on Isratrance. The market is so flooded that nobody except for the most dedicated freaks can keep up. New labels and shit artists spring up like mushrooms and rot away just as quickly. As for the poor dope who just wants to purchase a couple of good cds every couple of weeks to a month... good luck. Don't get me wrong. This is not just a rant directed at the 8 zillion full-on no-name clones out there. I'm talking about all the pure stinky amateur shit that's released these days. It amuses me how things have changed.

LOL... nice site... I didn't look that close at the Tsunami CD... thought it said Voice of GOD. You see what you expect to see I guess. The samples sound promising. Cheers.

"when few know exactly how to define them" Quite the opposite actually. Everyone seems to have their own definition. Hence the problem of finding a single definition. What you have to realize is that everyone uses the same terms in slightly different ways depending on their taste, but there is often a common theme. This question of what is what comes up often, and I suspect it usually comes from a person who heard a song or album they like and want to know more (i.e. they are not a psytrance fanatic). My suggestion is this: instead post what you like and ask for further suggestions. Also read reviews of what you like and you will see comparisons to other albums. Also read posts about what is "good" or "not good" and what a new release is like. Over time you will build up a catalogue of artists, different "styles," and the way they are described by different people. This is the only way. My opinion: there are no fixed styles. Some artists today are just copy cats, but most are influenced by various artists/releases that have come before. Therefore, you can have a progressive release with full on elements. You can have dark night trance with full on elements. You can have brand new releases that sound like pure oldschool goa (rare), and so on... in the end who cares... listen to what you like. It doesn't matter if it's "morning trance" or "full on" or "goa" or "psy." Just words...

Yeah, the first one got boring after a while so I sold it.

Anyone else heard this yet? I just got it and must say I'm impressed. A definite change from his previous (although similar). An evolution. A good one. Really cool use of sounds and samples. Very upbeat and humorous and strange in some places. What are your thoughts?

"old school goatrance music named nitzhonot"

That song Cities of the Future is pure shit. I heard it at a party and wanted to puke. It's something I would expect to hear at a regular dance club.... *puke* I've never been a big IM fan but could at least appreciate their work up to BP Empire. After that... whatever... This bullshit with lyrics and singing has got to stop.

Interstate Highway is one of those albums I got because of the fond memories I have of older MWNN. It's pleasant enough, and it's more of a return to his older style after the mostly awful cheesey Earth Moving Sun (which does have some good tracks nonetheless). His overall best album (if you don't count Teleportation which is really just a bunch of singles) is without doubt: Moment of Truth. MWNN always had a distinctive style and kick in his tracks. If you don't like his style you won't like most of his songs. His style was definitely melodic and accessible but certainly not commercial (at least not in the early days). Moment of Truth is goa. End of story.

Oh yeah... And that Darshan track: Mind Merge "Telepathy is not mind reading. It is a direct linking of two nervous systems separated by space. I want you to make a link from your brain to his heart. I want your brain to make his heart... beat faster" (and then the song goes off... sweeeet)
-
A few that come to mind are: Hallincinogen - LSD "I believe..." AP - People Can Fly need I say more? Cosmosis - From the Synergy Album (some good ones on Cosmology too) "Time is an endless nothing. You're falling though it. Deeper..." MFG - Peaceful Relaxation
-
There are a ... LOT ... of people that would say that about all psytrance. As for Skazi... whatever. Don't really care. Heard a couple tracks. That was enough. (average by todays standards)

Old cover: pretty good. New cover: yawn. Old music: what Frontier Psychiatrist said. New Music: not inspired by the samples and the samples are usually good enough to tell.

Thoughts on an psytrance mp3 shop like iTunes
khogg replied to Trancehead's topic in General Psytrance
I won't pay for mp3's. Hell, I don't even download mp3's anymore. It's just a waste of time... I will pay for good cd's, preferably with nice art and cool booklets etc. -
No I am not a DJ, just a die-hard listener, but I do go to the Organix club night on a semi-regular basis.
-
One of the main reasons I have always liked psytrance is because of the lack of lyrics and the lack of cheesy pop culture influences. I hate that stuff. This is the sad trend in this music today. It's losing it's heart. You know it's no good when you look on the dance floor and see some bimbo grinding with some idiot in a muscle shirt. Bah... if I saw a cd with a Britney Spears song on it, I would not buy it on principle, regardless of how good the rest of it was.

Dear Mr. Balls, Welcome. Been to Tofino a few times and it is a very nice place. Were you born there? As for me, I live in rainy Vancouver... There is a small scene here and it's not bad. I only wish we got more live acts coming through. Good luck in Calgary! Cheers, kjhogg

I'll put in another vote for 12000 suns. Their best ambient/slow track imo.

In '96, on shrooms at a friends place, he throws on A Voyage Into Trance mixed by Danny Rampling, and I was instantly loving it. At the time, I had just started doing shrooms and was buying all sorts of shit commercial electronica. I liked the synthetic beats and sounds, and I found parts of songs that I liked, but it was as if I was searching for something and didn't really know what it was. Then in that instant I just found it. Soon after, I went and got a wicked double cd compilation, and then another album, and another, and... The funny part is, I think my friend put on that cd just to show us this weird music he had found. He didn't really like it. It was more of a novelty to him. What a strange and wonderful coincedence.

There is trance I like to hear, and there is trance I don't like to hear. I like to hear the trance I like to hear at all times of the day. Therefore, the trance I like to hear is morning trance... for me. Actually, the trance I like to hear is really what most people would call morning trance, which means I like to hear morning trance at night.
