This record is wonderful, deep and textured. It's about time, but it was worth the wait. 8/10.
-
Not bad, but I found it missing a certain something - friend put it well when he commented that 'the narrative moves too slowly'. Ehh. 5/10. Reefer Decree must be pissed off though; the record label spelled it 'Reefer Deecre' on the spine.

I don't get it. It's got a minimal element to it, but it's also got a cheesy elegant feel (a la Massimo Vivona, Lando, Magnet) as well, that I can't stand. Believe me, nothing bad will happen if you don't buy this album.

I thought this was pretty typical stuff. If you're leaning towards picking up some minimal for the first time, this is an adequate taster. If you've already got MOS/Spirallianz/Midimiliz then you don't really need this. Oh - I'd be remiss if I didn't note that the Human Blue track is gorgeous.

German Electro rhythms with psy-techno noises. What's not to like? This is lovely.
-
This gets better every time I listen to it. Comunique is the bomb. It's a keeper, probably an all-time classic that will still sound fresh years from now.
-
rafalk, just wanted to say that 'Beach House Trance' is an excellent description. This vibe, while not my usual cup of tea, has its place and time - Beach House, early evenings.
-
Some highlights, but the good stuff has already appeared elsewhere. Get this if you don't already have a substantial collection of 1999-2000ish stuff.

V/A - Live In Germany 2000 Artist: Various Title: Live In Germany 2000 Label: Flying Rhino Date: 2000 Track listing: CD 1 01. 08'15" Slinky Wizard : People Like Us (9am Mix) 02. 07'35" DPOD : Rapunzel 03. 09'31" Atmos : Random Landlord 04. 08'50" Planet BEN : TNT 05. 08'34" 4D : Invader 06. 11'21" Bumbling Loons : Omen (Reworka Mix) 07. 08'06" Killer Hertz : It Can't Hurt 08. 09'10" Son Kite : Fallen Angel CD 2 01. 03'24" Max And Harvey : Harvey Shuffle 02. 06'18" Gus Till : Long Long Ago 03. 04'41" Red Seal : Chillin In da Zone (Live) 04. 03'53" Hax And Harvey : Up the Garden Path 05. 05'48" Red Seal : Dawn Salutation 06. 10'43" Healer : Speaking With A Def Man 07. 06'14" Boom Devil : Nothing To Be Afraid Of 08. 03'47" Woob : Pondlife 09. 03'58" Ivor : Guest Negative Yogi (Ambient Mix) 10. 16'05" ABA : Structure Erased Review: Flying Rhino takes out the trash for the year, and presses it onto CDs for us sheep. The first disc is barely tolerable, with a few decent but not essential tracks. Random Landlord stands out as not shit, but goes on far too long. The Bumbling Loons track is also not bad. The rest is either boring or trite. Slinky Wizard, you helped define a genre. You certainly don't owe it anything anymore, nor do you have anything left to contribute. Now is the time to hang up the skates before you do a collaboration with Astral Projection and Miranda. The second CD is quite a bit better, with the ambient freestyle vibe. I have no time for Max & Harvey, and why FR feels the need to re-release that awful Chillin' in da Zone track over and over again I'll never know. Red Seal, You Suck. For the love of all that is holy, quit. The rest is quite listenable, from the Boom Devil romantic 40's influence that really works to the weird-ass throat singing on Negative Yogi. Erased goes on and on and on with the chanting, but it's the last track so it's OK to do this. You don't even really realize anything's playing. Overall, I would rather have the 40 bucks in my pocket that this pap. Flying Rhino could at least pretend to try. For a while it looked like this crew was recovering, but it appears it was only a dead cat bounce. I am done with this label. 2/10.

Maybe it's not Art, but the record is like taking an adrenaline gun, pointing the trigger down your throat and screwing the power input into a G-type star. Excellent fun, rocks hard with a minimum of cute diversions. That Star Wars track excepted, it's pus. It's got to be a parody, maybe?

Magical. 10/10. This is on par with Shpongle. Just buy it.

This came out in 1998 indeed. I looked for it for months back then, and gave it up as futile. But guess what I found the other day in the bargain bin of my local electronic music shop! This was one of the greatest records to come out of this otherwise iffy era of psy-trance. Darkish, but not too dark. Lots of breakbeats at various speeds. It's got that rich sub-bass you find in powerful jungle, plus psychedelia in the mid-range. It has plenty of layers that play well with each other - yet it can mix OK. Find this if you can!
-
I found the first track excellent, and the rest forgettable. The good bits will probably show up on comps. 5.5/10
-
Very old-school. But this would be nice for driving long distances over empty highways on summery evenings.
-
As always, Iboga brings you the trailing edge. Nothing new or remarkable here except the very good tracks #6 and #8. Otherwise this is filler. 6/10.
-
Ehh. These are classics from the era, but if you've already got some then you don't need the rest. This era has come and gone. Once upon a time, 9/10, but now I'd give it 7/10 and fading.
-
The finest psychedelic ambient grooves. Tracks 3, 6 and 10 especially, but all of this is top-drawer. 10/10.
-
I don't think I like this very much, it's got too much acid for my taste (like a good work from 1997ish), but hats off to them for making something truly new and original sounding. 10/10 for High Weirdness, 6/10 for listening pleasure.
-
Very heavy and industrial until they get bored of it, way after anyone else would, then they diverge into random musical styles. As a whole, I find this record as annoying as 3.Turn, but some tracks are worthwhile for 4 minutes at a time. 4/10.
-
This is a masterpiece. The depths, the details are meticulous madness. Mmmmmmm. 9/10.
-
The CRMB track with the jackhammer-like keyboards is a medulla massage. All the rest is pretty samey sounding, but hard hard hard. The Bamboo Forest track, well, didn't he release basically this track a year ago only on Flying Rhino somewhere? I don't know if it really needed updating. Still, stonking tracks for 4 AM. 8/10.
-
Never gets repetitive? I found this constantly repetitive. The same unimaginative percussion throughout. I expected more. 3/10
-
Tracks 3 is beyond sick (I don't know if I would want to subject people to more than about 4 minutes of it though - High Weirdness), and track 4 is eeeeexxxcellent.
-
This is like the finest-prepared, spiciest Swedish cuisine: exquisitely done, but why bother? I found this too repetitive and boring. Also, they seem to rely too heavily on the old naive SUN Project percussion of boom-tsiss x 4 in an exact split of the bar. This bothers me after about 30 seconds.
-
After the reviews above, I was expecting more. It's good ambient stuff for trance fans. It creates a lego-vibe out of trance blocks. It doesn't build a new world of chillspace, like the Amaruvision release. 7/10.
