  1. I have high hopes. As for the cheesy/commercial side of full-on, just don't listen to it. The stuff isn't hard to avoid, just don't bother with most crap from phookol, chemical crew, bne, etc - unless you have a pretty good idea you're gonna like it.
  2. I just noticed we all forgot TORAKKA. Shame. That's one fucking good album he's got there! In fact... Far Out Express is significant because it takes the old school vibe and actually moves it forward (instead of merely continuing in the same vein, though that is nice too)... for that I have the highest respect for the artist.
  3. So far I am enjoying the system I use... for local events I charge 10 times the final door price (i.e. $15 in advance, $20 the night of - my fee is $200). If you do the math this means two things - I play free events for free, and secondly - if I get 10 people in the door to see me then the promoter has recouped the fee he paid me. Makes sense to me anyway Personally I demand payment even when the promoter loses out - it is their responsibility to break even, and mine to play a good set. If they fail in their responsibility while I fulfill mine, why should I lose out? Of course it's different with friends and in exceptional circumstances - when something really out of their control goes wrong. But if they didn't promote well, didn't flyer, whatever? Forget it, "we had a deal!"

    Y.S.E.

There's a need for this kind of label to exist but I think their compiling skills leave much to be desired. I only own two YSE releases out of what, 70? Very little of their output comes across as 'quality' to me. Discerning collectors buy the goods from the original labels in most instances, although for some tastes you may run into one of their ill-named "Goa" compils with a good selection of tracks. My problem is simply that I own the originals the better tracks are taken from in nearly every instance, reducing the value of the purchase significantly. It doesn't help that they've been mooching a ton off of Midijum recently, which is a label that has really gone downhill last year (again, imho).
  5. Electric Universe reigns supreme for Goa trance, though Filteria is undoubtably the best newcomer who still makes the old style. Modern Goa trance refers to the hyper-complex and ultra-melodic stuff made in the current era - it may be an old style but it is being done now. Many would argue that there is still a lot of great realms to explore with the Goa approach, and I agree on that. The style was abandoned too soon!
  6. I never did find a track by them that I liked... however I could recognize that they weren't taking a stupid approach to music - they were just doing it in a way I don't have an appreciation for, that's all...
  7. I had this one added to my latest order after realizing that this really is more than just a collection of killers... Should I take it as an omen that the case came shattered into a hundred small pieces of plastic? It's as if this CD were trying to leap out of its confines while en route... well, so far this is really satisfying my craving for above average dark & heavy psytrance. It seems like an album worth of a detailed review so perhaps I will get to that later... for now, enjoying it. Didn't these guys release on ultrabeat? Kudos.
  8. Any year now psytrance producers are going to begin to get creative until then, more hollywood.
  9. That would be killer. You can write all about the latest forum fights you have instigated
  10. E.P. can't help it, no one reads his blog
  11. cool... keep it informal - a blog is pretty useless when it just replicates promotional info you can easily find on the forums... good stuff so far
  12. I never liked this group much - they had a few cool singles when they came out that rocked the dancefloors with the metal-trance hybrid sound, but I Found the debut album Sunspot to be unspeakably dull... plenty of people loved that one though, so I just figured 'ah, another band I will not grok'. Much much later on, late last year, I gave Combustion another spin, as I hadn't paid too much attention to it when it came out, especially not given that the reviews were rather bad for it... but wtf! There are some absolutely incredible pieces on this particular album. The sound differs from track to track but we still get these sickly gothic riffs and soaring high-pitched melodies and all the rest... I've listened to it a lot through the winter, and arrived at the conclusion it's a real gem. Just another case of taste gone weird or what? I have got the impression that most people find Dark Soho's output gets steadily worse as one goes through the years... for myself, Combustion is the one thing I want saved - no other single or album really does it for me like this. \m/ anyone with me on this one or am I just a freak? Opinions on the band? Oh yeah, they were pretty cool live, but not enough for me to like their recorded music any more at the time (2003)...
  13. I think the difficulty is that there are many many releases like this - nice production, great sounds, little imagination and depth. Why buy this instead of something else, right? It sounds as if I will pass on this one... I don't think Ofer will ever top Pigs in Space (another fan right here).
  14. I'm looking for the 'all of the above' option. Hmm...
  15. Entheogenic Shulman Ott Galaxy ...generally, look for the most recent albums from these groups. I find them to be the best - the style has really taken off in the last couple of years. FYI psychedelic chill-out seems like a fine term to use... sometimes there is a beat, after all - just not a heavy one.
  16. Excellent... you guys release music that is exactly what I'm looking for from the deeper side of psychedelic...
  17. I lost count. I think I've got around 700 vinyls and maybe 300 CDs... pure guess-work however. I have 800-something in discogs but there are so many gaps. I got a bit weary of waiting three weeks to find out my release submission was rejected because I wrote 'vs' without a period You win this round, ukiro! *makes a timely getaway on an anti-gravity sled*
  18. The question is: does it have layers? Space Cat's recent album was boring due to a lack of layers. I need more than one melody at a time for this style, and I expect it from these old school guys damnit
  19. Uh, it's an mp3... use an mp3 player?
  20. Meh, it was okay. Not particularly complex or memorable.
  21. Sorry... I'll fix that when I get home in about an hour.
  22. It fit the theme Anyone else give this a shot? I've had many downloads...
  23. Paradice, that's not bad at all.. gets really nice near the middle. It's all those darkside synths and big atmosphere, sounds promising. I am still seeking new material that possesses the energy and funk of something like Snake Thing's Scorch... is there any psychedelic breaks material like that out there now?
