your fav psy/goa/prog... track with a guitar in it
Basilisk replied to Manuser's topic in General Psytrance
Track 9 on the Higher Human Form album is really nice... and there's good guitar usage all over Uni - Venus. Also sweet is P.O.T.S - Aspirin + Cola, and M-Sphere - Roots. I'm sure everyone else will name the heavy stuff. -
Found it!

I own the single and didn't even notice... hrmmm

Vinyl can last in a playable state for 250+ years I'm told. If kept right. CDs are a fifth of that at best. So, it all really depends on whether you expect to be bitten by a vampire or discover the fountain of yoots or acquire longevity-inducing elixirs, nanobots, or other esoteric stuff.

Fair enough - I think I'd agree. I oppose those who would cast down ALL negative opinions, for there are those that serve a purpose... but would agree that opinionated reviews which aren't backed up don't really help anything much at all. I generally don't post my reasoned yet negative reviews simply cuz its not worth dealing with the flak you can get for thinking bad of someone's "art"... but I sure as hell still write them Latest victim - V/A Poopaganda!

The internet: a fabulous place for the free interchange of ideas, good and bad The whole online community aspect of the psy scene goes back to TRiP and the reviews found there... part of what made it useful was that opinions ranged wildly between positive and negative. Proponents set out an argument and provide constrasting views on a release which a person can then consider and use as a staging point for coming to one's own conclusions. I still find that negative opinions help sort out the immense volume of music that is put out year-by-year. Take a look at isratrance and all the mutual backscratching that goes on over there - often if one were to try and gauge a new release by what people say there you'd find that EVERY release is "KILLLLLLLAAAR". What good is that? It's fine when someone says X sucks, because hey - it's just the internet. Someone else might chime in and say X rocks! While this isn't the most involved commentary it can provide a basis for finding new music or coming to conclusions about music already found. At the very worst, well, what... the artist cries themselves to sleep at night about what all the bad ppl on the internet said about them? I don't think that is so... most artists are quite mature about it - recognizing that you can't please everyone all of the time. Some of them are actively seeking fame and fortune at the top with a sound that can be described as "lowest common denominator". They shouldn't be surprised that for every ten fans they make there is one or two detractors from the old style who despise their methods. If human beings hadn't developed a 'need to communicate' we'd still be munching leaves up in a tree somewhere. Probably for the betterment of the planet but what's done is done by now

I bought Reactivate #1 at the used shop the other day for the really funny cover. RAVE!

Oh come on... Skazi is terrible noise... and now with so many stupid covers there's more reason to dislike.

X-Dream's remix of Life Is by Koxbox has quite an amazing bit of bass work...
-
Listen to "the peter pan syndrome" and "hypnostatique" to get an idea of what that means... very housey with some nice light melodies. It's not Goa trance though!! more like progressive morning sounds...

Torakka - Far Out Express... melodic and unique!
Basilisk replied to shpongled's topic in General Psytrance
It's here? Excellent news... the vinyl single they released on 13 Productions was great old school stuff... -
You mean the promo copy is inaccurate?! How can this be?
-
Yeah! They've got some good tunes... and then they've got just tunes. Mullet Mohawk - I Like 2 Move it!

1) I agree! Slide was great... then he went prog, indeed. And further. And further. And now makes some radio-friendly stuff with vocals if I'm not mistaken... ah well. His proggy pieces from the early days were really good too - Confusional State and Closure are both excellent. Then I think he "slid" too far.

I find most of the mainstream Israeli releases totally unlistenable these days... But lets step back a moment and remember the classic of bad taste Antidiluvian Rocking Horse - Rigorous Donut (hehe) bu-BURP burpBuR-BURP-burp BURPPPP burp-BURP! But actually, there are a few modern songs I HATE AND WISH TO DESTROY (especially because all the "cool djs" hammer them to death)... IM - I Wish (you would STOP PLAYING THIS SONG) [skazi Remix] IM - Cities of the Future (run run run AWAYYYY! etc) GMS - Acid for Nothing (and the chicks are e-z) The last outdoor party of the year... the DJ on around midnight played all three of those plus Voodoo People, Satisfaction, and a couple of other remixes. All in a row, consecutively. On a heavily distorted sound system. It was ATROCIOUS. Perhaps the ironing is that this DJ gets far more bookings than I ever do

Interesting development - good luck!

This sounds great! Jaia is no longer a duo I don't think... and I doubt we'll hear anything like the old stuff... but I enjoy the style of their new tunes and I'm sure it'll be a quality release!

Nothing beat seeing Juno Reactor on the Shango tour. Nothing.
-
We should go on a spree, bumping up funny old threads!
-
Try out B.L.T.'s last album Anything U Want or Kiwa's Dreamtime Enhancer... not quite the same style, but they've got the good drums. Tegma - Encoded/Decoded and Son Kite's Colours have some solid drumming work as well, and are more on the progressive side (same label, in fact).
-
Good luck everyone! we need more projects like this going against the grain...

They're one of my favourite old groups but even I will admit they were quite inconsistent... M.E. is fabulous stuff but Feeling Weird is all over the place. Their singles and compilation appearances were where you might find their better sound... and generally I think they got a whole lot better near the end - Mindboggler Part 2 anyone? Graham Wood's solo disc on Equinox is one to track down... it has some stuff that is really quite excellent (Strange Thing for example)... and the new CD Blowfish is pretty good.

Have you tried... Nuclear Ramjet Sensient Manibus Authentik/3.Turn

This is amusing... I was just listening through rehashed and wondering why this guy is so well-regarded. Owned both albums, ended up getting rid of them when I didn't really grow to like them all that much. The trip tonite remix is well, an admirable effort I guess... but you can't top Etnica's own remix (now that's an amazing tune)... The gremlins tune does make me smile though I don't know if its 'good' but heh.. it's amusing for sure. More listening is evidently required... remember: taste is highly subjective. There are no absolutes.
