  1. I've always wondered about the tuned in mix... but, more often than not, old school unavailable on CD was unavailable because it wasn't as good. But there are some surprises. Alas it isn't always worth paying a lot of money to find out, and old TIP recs can be pricey... Old TIP also had some other subtly different tracks with the same name... Uforica for example comes in two different flavours (though I think one is technically a Voodoo People remix, it isn't really prominently noted)...
  2. they took the money and ran? the monzoon EP is excellent... picked up that 12" in a used auction not too long ago...
  3. saiko is the cheapest and most reliable... one key point: some stores know how to work the customs system, others don't. last time I ordered from psyshop I was hit with an extra $60 charge
  4. I'll look into it but I'm fairly certain Earth Crossing was never printed up - only the demo/promo got around, and so it goes. Indeed with the powers of the internet artists can free themselves, but on the flipside of that coin it takes time and knowledge... I think that some artists would just like to spend their time making the music and leave the rest to someone else. When I speak to them I'll see if they've thought of it... tho it may be a little while before I hear back peace.
  5. The tracks are good, the visuals are cool... this is a new sort of concept I think - I have seen visuals before, of course, but never repetative like these are... it gives them this curious trance-inducing quality (which makes total sense)... I saw the full DVD a few weeks ago and haven't put it on since but I've been using the songs in some mixes I've been working on and despite the time in between the visuals run vividly in my mind as the track goes on! Now thats a powerful association! I can only hope more artists take this route for releasing their albums so that an entirely new generation of trance media can come to fruition. I am EAGERLY looking forward to being able to spin my first DVD-only set with synched visuals... but it may be a year or two yet before there's enough of this kind of art to work with.
  6. Aha. Something else that is amusing, ear... you know the review you quote? That's mine and I can vouch for DP's credibility. As he notes, the explanation for mostly positive reviews is quite simple: he mostly reviews what he likes (and I do too!). It may appear at times that reviewers are bought off with freebies and such... there is an inherent danger here, no doubt... but this is not at work in this case. Amusingly, I was the first to put up a review of this album over on Isra, and I agree with DP on this release. Something I find helpful about very subjective reviewers... many of them have a consistent taste. In that sense, over time, and through experience, one can get a better grasp on what they're going to like by following reviewers with similar outlooks. If you find someone that has an outlook akin to yours, that is better than a thousand unbiased and purely descriptive reviews.
  7. Hi there everyone... I'm still selling the Liquid Neon Sky EP on a private basis, but the label is indefinatly on hold (I wouldn't say "dead" though)... so anything said about releasing the album in that other thread is long out-of-date. I sure learned a lot from printing up that 12". Nearly 150 records sold, but the rest are still boxed and waiting... probably forever, as all avenues of distribution were unfruitful. The inability to get distribution is what really made printing any more records an impossibility. Here's the multifaceted problem from the industry perspective: - Goa trance "doesn't sell" - vinyl "doesn't sell" - the music was already readily available in mp3 everywhere psy is pirated These are some of the concerns the distributors had. I strongly disagree with the first point, have slowly acquiesced to the reality of the second, and have grown to be mournfully resigned to the last one. To put things in perspective, let me explain my personal motivations for doing this project... The idea for the record was originally generated by some email exchanges between me and the band - I had, in fact, contacted them about their album, asking when it was to be released... then I heard the full story about how Nova-Tekk didn't think it would sell and had no near-term plans to release it. I was shocked and appalled - and offered to help out. I was like many of you, a fan of quality music, seeing a style I love (the uplifting and euphoric sounds of old school Goa trance) getting pushed to the side as the industry dictated the new trends we should all unthinkingly embrace. I was a fiery vinyl defender, appreciative of the inate collectable aspects of the medium that turns music into something for the ages... which is a good fit for what I consider to be "timeless" music. And even knowing of the MP3s out there, I took the gamble, because I believed in this music... still do but I'm out of funds to continue supporting it with record releases. Anyway... the EP with two tracks from the album is still for sale, and you are free to contact me through my web site (www.ektoplazm.com) or by email (try orders[AT]ektoplazm.com). I also put them up on eBay from time to time. I'll be speaking with the group soon and will relay any new information I discover about forthcoming releases, tours, or anything else which may be of interest to fans. Peace.
  8. See my review on isra... and since this is psynews I can say what I like uncensored like any other outer-space ruffian, so *ahem* this compilation SUCKS! and TIP World are a bunch of goofs for doing such a piss-poor continuation of the classic colour series. BOO!!! What a slap in the face to anyone who has been here for some time and who still has a heart for the original TIP!
  9. You people don't want to make god cry, do ya? HUH? SINNERS! thats a funny use of sample... better than hollywood anyway! haha
  10. Got it... its good... get it!
  11. its gotta be wrong... time to ask avatar i guess
  12. new album coming 2004 according to what I've heard... so, sometime but check out the DVD... the tracks are sweet - the visuals are intense...
  13. I'm getting the Mr. Pec DVD soon... saw the sampler and it looked insanely great... I wish to find more reviews too!
  14. E.P.: Of course I buy what I like. All the time. I spend far too much money on music I think mp3s are a fantastic resource for finding good music, I hold on to quite a few contraversial ideals, but remember - I do support this scene where it counts... by buying releases that are good to my ears, as much as I can find and/or afford. All I'm saying here is that low CD sales have as much to do with low-quality CDs as it does with piracy. Perhaps even less, because some pirates aren't going to buy CDs no matter what anyone says... whereas those of us who do buy what we like sometimes suffer from a lack of good well-rounded releases
  15. Bah, there are just too many crappy releases. How many compilations are out already this year? And which of those are actually worth buying? These labels are doing it to themselves - how about a bit of quality control and VISION not "hey here's another psy cd full of bang-bang crap that's good for a whole month in some dj's case"... some music is made for the ages, and some is made for the moment. Which should you be releasing?
  16. they suck so hard... but if we go back a few years you will find the wonderful 'license to slink' by slinky wizard, and that is a real psychedelic treat. anyone heard kino oko's take on whole lotta love? at least that doesn't try to be anything it ain't...
  17. never trust isratrance reviews... its one big circle jerk. but what can I say? even I avoid posting bad reviews for the many bad releases out there, just cuz I don't want to have to deal with some label manager taking personal offence. this prometheus album was eagerly awaited in my household... once it arrived I learned once again not to buy into the hype. its a pretty good album but not as insane as I had hoped. still, its a nice and unique style and a refreshing change. I guess honestly I wished for more chill on there, as that first track is a real beaut. 'universe' is also quite nice on the stomp side, but some of these tracks piss me off with their sample usage. it degrades the amount of listens I can stand... now, another view on this is that the best albums usually take the longest to settle into the brainpan and extend tendrils... and what may seem at first to be a masterpiece to some people may take a while for others... I could end up liking this release a LOT more and I think others could too - it does have the mark of an album that you need to wait on for it to show its true power...
  18. Lets see if I can build a chain Sunkings - Starbuck [Juno Reactor Remix] Juno Reactor - Feel the Universe [Koxbox Remix] Koxbox - Life Is... [X-Dream Remix] X-Dream - The Frog [Morphem Remix] Morphem - Ambrosia [son Kite Remix] Son Kite... oh damn, their originals are always the best Your turn?
  19. one step forward, two steps back
  20. there are a lot of great proggy tunes out there... from what you ask, one song comes to mind: phony orphants - dead expressing also, try ticon's play that dirty piano... a lot of fun regardless of who's hearin it...
  21. did -anyone- like amen? I bought one of the ltd. edition 2LP copies but I don't even use it... I guess when I have the choice out of the four LPs I have, I always pick something older (and better)...
  22. the only new pleiadians track out is 'inner space' and in imho it does not in any way justify the hype.
  23. are you an old school goa fan, and serious collector of records? send me an email if you'd like to talk to some other classic 604 fans... i might be able to hook you up
  24. pretty nice guys how about a link to their mikseri material? some of those songs still kick my ass... 'if we could just get a fixxxx!'
  25. Ah, my favourite... well if you've heard the new Koxbox tunes 911 and Oscillocore I think you can see what direction the solo project is going... I doubt I'll like any of it as much as the old stuff, but its still rather unique and cool and very well produced of course...
