Is It Something Evil In Ripping Old Rare Albums?
Basilisk replied to (OM)Open_Mind's topic in General Psytrance

Whatever happened to Hyzer? Was it simply reincorporated into Vibrasphere?

Short answer: the situation is a mess. Any statement going one way or another would be misinterpreted and vilified, even by many people we consider to be well-meaning. And besides, trance is an escapist culture. Example: http://forum.isratrance.com/nasser-checkpoint-iono-music/ The political content of this release is virtually non-existent yet look at the reaction!

Rather not call this "neo" trance. It's techno. Good techno, actually; you'll find a bunch of it in my most recent set: http://www.ektoplazm.com/mixes/dj-basilisk...t-eclipse-2009/

Is there significant difference between buying an obscure old release on Discogs and simply downloading it? In neither instance does the label or any of the artists receive a cut.

This warrants deeper listening.

Pentafiles is a classic and Funraiser gave me a bunch of killer tunes to throw down in my dark sets. After those releases my love affair with Penta ended. Horn Please and Portuguese Abduction seemed like more of the same without whatever it was that made his earlier material special. Give Me Five! marks a slight return to the good times, but only slight. This is still an album for DJs to pick and nibble at. Still, I've made good use of Downturn, Robot Poetry, and We're From The Future in some of my sets, so it's certainly not a bad release... just take it as is: dark yet upbeat full-on with silly samples and good dance floor vibes.

Sir Eel is a slippery album, both disjointed and thoroughly enjoyable. There are some very catchy numbers here with a few more disposable tunes in the bunch. Interesting stuff!

This album is a reasonable approximation of the clicky white noise techno style currently fashionable in progressive circles but it lacks a certain special ingredient. I've listened a few times and never really get that sense of space I find in Fiord, Perfect Stranger, Extrawelt, and so on. This is more like party techno but without the breathing room it feels a bit forced. I'll give it a chance to grow but for now it is relegated to the back of my virtual bin.

Thanks Lemmi for digging into the MMM album

FARADIZE - DARKNIGHT CASTLE EP 01 :: Faradize - Darknight Castle (145 BPM) 02 :: Faradize - Goblins (feat. Iliuchina) (149 BPM) 03 :: Faradize - Psychic Farmers (145 BPM) 04 :: Faradize - Mindless (140 BPM) Darknight Castle EP is the debut release from Faradize (Maxim Kucher), a psytrance producer of Russian origin presently residing in Beer-Sheva, the capital of the Israeli full-on scene. His style is a study in contrasts, combining morning melodies, dark theatrical atmospheres, tribal textures, and acoustic elements into a sizzling psychoactive brew destined to ignite dance floors around the world. This intoxicating blend of old school vibes and new influences draws upon the pioneering work of acts such as The Misted Muppet and Infected Mushroom, conjuring fantastic worlds of sound in the process. This release has been mastered by Audio Valve and features cover art by Faradize himself. Download it for free in MP3/FLAC/WAV or purchase it on CD direct from Ektoplazm: http://www.ektoplazm.com/free-music/faradi...ight-castle-ep/

Had it out for a few midnight bike rides in recent days. It does the trick... sometimes sounding a bit like Psykovsky mashed together with Derango with film scores on top. -
Two very flattering reviews of the SCM album: http://psyreviews.net/content/view/633/1/ http://kpsu.org/node/31075

I listened to a lot of industrial before discovering trance music but the lines are somewhat blurred... for instance, have a listen to Front 242 - Stratoscape, one of my favourites as a young teen. It is essentially trance (and really really deserving of a good remix treatment). My first non-industrial electronic music find would have been Little Fluffy Clouds, a song I first heard streaming off of a site called X-Radio. And my first taste of real Goa trance was through an MP3 site called "The Temple" (this is back when MP3s were brand new and people were posting tracks partially to show off the technology and partially to spread the vibes). From there I remember grabbing some Hallucinogen, Man With No Name, and a song that has stuck with me forever: Deviant Electronics - Catharsis. I guess that would have been 1998? Shortly thereafter discovered TRiP, Audiogalaxy, and Psynews. Started DJing, opened up a web site, received a virus from CHI-A.D., wrote back to Andy C and decided to print up a vinyl featuring two tracks from Earth Crossing, lost my shirt, retooled my concepts... and now here we are.

V/A - REST IN PIECES 01 :: Audio Psykosis - Acid Awakening (150 BPM) 02 :: Nertosystem vs StrezZ vs wi']['ch - No Money, No Body Honey Bunny (150 BPM) 03 :: EQ Tunkul - Messiah (154 BPM) 04 :: Killer Hurtz - Buddha (156 BPM) 05 :: Necropsycho - Whisperer In The Darkness (155 BPM) 06 :: aGh0Ri TanTriK - Rest In Pieces (159 BPM) 07 :: EniChkin - Mir Grez (160 BPM) 08 :: Liquedator - Blueberry (172 BPM) 09 :: Devic - Up In Smoke (160 BPM) Rest In Pieces is a relentless trip into the dark heart of extreme psychedelic trance courtesy of the Indian label Sonic Tantra Records. With a lower speed limit of 150 BPM this compilation demands a certain degree of physical and mental stamina for full enjoyment. Apart from the breakneck pace, the style of this release is marked by ripping acid leads and the bewildering interplay of sinister atmospheric sounds. If “psychological endurance training” sounds like fun, test your limits and boundaries with this killer free release! Mastered by EQ Tunkul (except for track 2 by wi’]['ch) with cover artwork by Sid (aGh0Ri TanTriK). Download it for free in MP3/FLAC/WAV direct from Ektoplazm: http://www.ektoplazm.com/free-music/rest-in-pieces/
