  1. Warp Technique - Make Animals Happy Pitch Black meets Distant System? I wonder... it's dub-influenced electronica that jumps from broken beat to deep bassy trance... strange and delightful stuff, and I love the name. Look out for it...
  2. Have a look at Adam Scott Miller's site for more http://corpuscallosum.cc/

  5. I think that might be what I'm interested in. Do you have any specific recommendations? Is this the whole Ed Rush & Optical side of d'n'b?
  6. I don't even know where to begin with drum 'n bass... it's just too big. I'm interested in the more futuristic stuff, not jump-up or ragga jungle or whatever. One CD I came across that sounded pretty interesting was Gridlok's Break The System; it's filled with all kinds of swooshy psytrance noises. Might be worth a listen.

Ping! Anyone? I'll give you a killer deal on vinyl if you feel like picking up a bunch.
  8. Boris Blenn recently released an electro house album on several digital download shops. Have a look (with samples): http://www.junodownload.com/products/1376819-02.htm Now, I know this won't please the old school purists out there... and he certainly hasn't revolutionized the electro house formula, or even done anything particularly original... but this actually sounds alright! Much better than his recent album release, Sonic Ecstasy, at any rate... Your thoughts?

  11. You know, I keep finding Ektoplazm releases on P2P networks released by groups like "MLP" or "ZAiK" or "iND Team." All they do is download the releases, strip out anything that would actually lead people back to the Ektoplazm web site, and call it their own. Any advice on how to get these clowns to at least leave a link in there somewhere? It seems so very very lame... I thought "the scene" had some rules, but it doesn't seem to stop these groups from doing their thing. I guess that based on what you're saying I'd be interested in finding some way of "leaking" releases to the groups... but correct me if I'm wrong, would any group with real credentials actually take it? Or am I in the unique position of not having anything discerning pirates would want to distribute
  12. Perhaps we sometimes forget that those of us who are informed about the music (and posting here) are in the minority... this year I've had many opportunities to speak to "regular party people" in the course of hawking CDs and flyering for Ektoplazm. I have found, much to my surprise, that however serious partiers might seem to be (i.e. you might have seen these people around for years, at just about every party), few are well-informed about the music. Many don't know what the different styles are, few know more than a handful of producers such as Shpongle and Infected Mushroom, and as near as I can tell many simply rely on local DJs and promoters to be their "gatekeepers of taste." For all of these reasons, YSE's use of "Goa" as a marketing term makes sense--and evidently it works, for they would have ceased using it long ago if it weren't an effective strategy. Put another way: the benefit of having such straight-forward naming conventions for their many compilations is greater than the discontent infrequently expressed by a relatively small sub-segment of hardcore psytrance fans. Another way of looking at it: Goa is a place. "Goa trance" is what you hear in that place. So while we might refer to only a particular style or period of history as having legitimate claim to the term, it more accurately refers to what you will hear if you went to Goa today. And what you hear, like it or not, is unlikely to be what we here on Psynews refer to as "Goa."

    More stuff added!
  14. Have you heard about Psychedelic Traveller magazine? It is formed with the involvement of some of the old Trancer's Guide staff and promises to be something similar but more forward-thinking. I believe they plan to format the magazine web site with a wiki for regions not covered in the print version, for instance. It sounds pretty cool so far; just have to wait a few months to see how it all pans out. http://www.psychedelic-traveller.net/ http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=43864871370
  15. I'd rather see an interesting, relevant, and timely psytrance blog covering the same sort of stuff you might find in a magazine. Subculture-oriented print media is becoming obsolete. You can't embed video in paper, after all.
  16. ANAKOLUTH - BEYOND REACH EP 01 :: Analemma (9:03) 02 :: Echolot (8:21) 03 :: Patterns In The Chaos (10:40) 04 :: Iapetus (8:47) Anakoluth is back with another psychedelic odyssey into the depths of outer space and the human imagination. The Beyond Reach EP from Cronomi Records features four kaleidoscopic tracks that blend the cavernous rhythms of deeply minimal psytrance with dazzling cosmic melodies and hints of old school Goa trance. Anakoluth’s clean technical style has already won the respect of fans around the world, and with this release he exhibits an evolution in both sound production and musical arrangement. This release has been mastered by Colin Bennun @ the Stooodio, Bristol, UK. 17. How about a review of Organic Circuitry? Would love to hear what Psynewsers think of it... http://www.ektoplazm.com/free-music/organic-circuitry/
  18. Are there any implications for regular listening? I'm Googling up some info on that but it isn't immediately obvious that it matters much. Feel free to fill me in!
  19. Nope! The release is a direct rip of aLIVE from CD.
  20. Lossless? I kept waiting for them to put this up on Beatport. There are some older tracks in their catalogue I'd love to get too (Kyoto, for instance--what a long time ago that was).
  21. Whoa. Hold up a minute. Sounds like your friends are common pirates and cheapskates. Sure, lots of people download precisely because it costs nothing, but those of us dealing in digital media at the collector level are into it for different reasons--many of which have already been stated in this very thread. Personally, I am just about done with lugging binders (and before that, a record bag) to gigs. I want one HD with every single track I might ever play--in lossless quality. That's my dream: no more carting atoms around.
