Great tracks not available in digital form
Basilisk replied to Basilisk's topic in General Psytrance
When their store was open you could purchase WAV as well. I went back and purchased their entire back catalogue at the same time. I wish more artists made this sort of thing available (and at such a reasonable price). I can hardly believe I forgot about the S>Range - Boom / Broadcast 12"! One of my old favourites... -

I'd recommend checking out the Tribalharmonix web site for event listings. -
Great tracks not available in digital form
Basilisk replied to Basilisk's topic in General Psytrance
I think most tracks make it to MP3 format somehow or another... but it's still just an MP3 of a vinyl rip, not original digital quality. -
Many interesting songs have never made it to CD or been offered as a lossless download. While going through a small archive of vinyl rips I made some years ago I thought to jot down a list of a few... Aphid Moon - Chi Crop Circles - Different Species Double Dragon - Deeper Speaker Double Dragon - Wetware Encens - Vakealien Gangguru - X3 GMS - Found In Space Human Blue - Proggy Froggy Kiwa - Alien Loop Logic Bomb - The Pawn RMX Logic Bomb - Time Travelling E.T's Prana - Anima Mundi Prana - Emerald Quirk - Cognitive Dissidents (Dead Sea Mix) Reefer Decree - Dirty Chip Semsis - Panic Shakta & Moonweed - Q Spirallianz - Spotrunnerz Spirallianz - Trash Talk Tetraktys - Atrophy Ticon - Spincycle Tim Schuldt - Secrets Xenomorph - Hexenkessel These are lost tracks as far as I know... can you think of any others? (Be sure to use Discogs for reference!) I wonder how much success we might have emailing some of the artists and labels to make this material available... seems like a damn shame that it isn't.

Fetishize the object of delivery or the music it contains? Physicality is no longer an overriding concern for me. I'll take the 18 Tb and the girl over a wall of paper and plastic products. -

If you're listening at home for your own pleasure use whatever format you like. It's different when you play out though... I think you need to take things seriously. Given that psytrance is such a highly technical form of music, quality matters. I've not heard any good reason to compromise on quality--especially since hard drives are so cheap, and the only thing you really gain from the MP3 format is file size savings and portability. -

I wrote an article about the new format just before it hit the shelves: http://www.ektoplazm.com/journal/a-poke-in...a-compactstick/ Summary: it won't work. -

PLEASE Atention to all
Basilisk replied to Cosmo Circle's topic in Artist News and Labels announcements
This issue comes up from time to time. Don't worry about it--these guys just slurp up all the MP3s they can find on P2P networks and present them all on their site, hoping for some sales. Chances are that people surfing in from this thread will be the first to see your music listed there! Sales are sure to be virtually non-existent. These operators get by on chance sales--put a million titles up and they'll sell a bit from traffic coming in from the search engines or whatever. The way of approaching this is to simply ignore it. -
Happy holidays from OOOD and Ektoplazm! A stunning exposition of the unique psychedelic sound of OOOD, the album was recorded live at parties across the UK including Pagan’s fabled New Years Eve party, Science Fiction and Otherworld at the Fridge in London. True to the authentic spirit of mid-nineties Goa trance, aLIVE is an exuberant combination of dazzling old school melodies, sizzling acid lines, and upbeat rhythms. Enjoy this blast from the past—free of charge! Re-released under a Creative Commons licence for noncommercial usage with the full support of OOOD. If you appreciate this gift be sure to check out OOOD’s latest album, Fourthought, released just this year! CYBERNETIKA - NANOSPHERIC 01 :: Plasmoid (14:47) 02 :: The Outer Reach (10:44) 03 :: Earthshock (12:44) 04 :: Nanospheric (15:01) 05 :: Praeforma (8:27) 06 :: Finale (8:23) Nanospheric is the fourth album from Cybernetika, an independent German producer from Cologne. Since 2003 he has been writing many different types of electronic music with science fiction influences: psychedelic trance, techno, industrial, and drum ‘n bass. Hints of these other styles can be heard on Nanospheric, but it is primarily an atmospheric psytrance album with a heavy emphasis on story-telling. Cybernetika begins the tale with a virtual epigram: “Both universe and infinitesimal particle, the Nanospheric is an abstract construct beyond our imagination and comprehension. It is a machine deity that forms matter in its own will.” This album was written in FL Studio, mastered with Wavelab, and features cover artwork by Angie Fouquette. Hilarious. On another note, (gently) tell me what you think I'm missing: http://www.ektoplazm.com/projects/essential-selections/2008/ Over the holidays I should have time to catch up on releases I have certainly missed. This year I know I have not really kept up... so don't get abusive if some release isn't on my list; maybe I just haven't heard it After doing a bit of research I'll likely put together my own personal "best of" for 2008... We humans like lists after all.

albums or eps that we all think are milestones in the psy scene
Basilisk replied to NEMO.BOFH's topic in General Psytrance
Ah, now I see what you mean. But it is a bit of a paradox: musical genres aren't defined by a specific sound as much as people's perceptions of the music. When I understood what the original intent was I immediately thought of The Muses Rapt - Spiritual Healing. Undeniably a psytrance milestone, but is it psytrance? I've never been sure. You could say the same for early Platipus releases... but this is very murky territory to be exploring. I mean, if you're going to identify BPC's early work, why not that of Eat Static or Juno Reactor? It seems a bit pointless since all this stuff is considered to be a part of psytrance history... and it has less to do with the technical sound you observe but the feeling of the music--a highly subjective response. There is this sense that the stuff that is considered to be psytrance somehow goes together. And that, I think, is sufficient. -

Technossomy's Synthetic Flesh, Miranda's Phenomena, anything by Asia 2001, Juggling Alchemists, Paradise Connection, early Bypass Unit, The Enlightened Ape, Scatterbrain's Infernal Angel, anything by Alien Project, and Tits On Fire. Not that these aren't good necessarily--but I don't see what the fuss is all about. Are there any more sacred cows around here that need slaying? :drama:
