Assembled by Helicon Sound System, this release is characterized by dark atmospheres, high tempos, and blistering hard beats—key elements of the “darkpsy” style. Play it out in the depths of night and see where it takes you. Diana, The Moon Goddess has been mastered by John Revis at Cymazz Studios and features artwork by Cartoonhead and Hellhazers. Download it here in MP3 or WAV: http://www.ektoplazm.com/free-music/diana-the-moon-goddess/

Booka Shade - Movements http://www.discogs.com/release/684196 (Does it sound like Ticon's template or is it just me? It is, however, much more relaxed and unstressed than 2am.)

I don't mind some electro but this sounds too cheesy for me. Still, I hope Nikita has fun with this project

What track kicked off the whole darkpsy thing?
Basilisk replied to Basilisk's topic in General Psytrance
I think there is a big difference between darkpsy and dark psytrance (or Goa trance) in general. Darkpsy is not the best name for things--but hey, I didn't name the stuff Diaks is right about Xenomorph but I still wonder about the drive. Darkpsy is more than just horror noises after all. That distinctive throb and rumble has to be accounted for. That's where Parasense comes in... -

Something from Parasense? Azax Syndrom? Penta? Krakakot was originally released in 1998... it seems hard to argue with that! What do you think?

Welcome. Speculation on the track you describe: Neoris - Dolphin's State or 12 Moons - The Voyage.

Yes, it is fantastic! Support the artists on this one... -
I posted this in the Amitabha Buddha thread but figured I should copy and paste it here: On the subject of CD vs CDr: manufacturing technology is constantly improving. Consumer-grade CDrs have long been regarded as unreliable but you have to remember two important facts: a lot of time has passed since that reputation was earned and the manufacturing plants aren't using consumer-grade media anyhow. If you actually visit a variety of CD manufacturing web sites you will find they often claim there is no longer a qualitative difference between replication (glass mastered CDs) and duplication (CDrs). Do a little research and see for yourself!

Few people seem to like the Wizzy Noise remix but it received a fantastic response when I played it out a few weekends ago... is this just the usual Psynews anti-full-on bias at work?

Indeed! The final release can be found here: http://www.ektoplazm.com/free-music/ekople...-the-dragon-ep/

There are literally hundreds of these chimeric monsters lurking about these days... here are a few I bothered to type out--some old school Goa, plenty of 90s dance music, a few older rock songs, all covered within the last few years or so: Altom - Only When I Lose Myself (Depeche Mode) Atomic Pulse - Fire Dance (Odyssee Of Noises) CPU - Undercover (Reel 2 Reel - Move It) CPU - U Spin (Dead Or Alive - You Spin Me Round) CPU vs Absolum - Owner Of A Lonely Heart (Yes) Dino Psaras - Voice (F.S.O.L. - Papua New Guinea) DMMT - Break On Thru (The Doors) Domestic - The Power of American Native (Dance 2 Trance) GMS - You Gotta Fight (Beastie Boys) Hujaboy vs Techtonic - Remind (Orbital) Indika - A Different Perspective (The Cure - A Forest) Manifold - What Time Is Love (KLF) Minilogue - Teardrop (Massive Attack) Para Halu - ??? (Technotronic? - Pump Up The Volume?) Psy Skipper - Smells Like A Pirate Spirit (Nirvana) Safi Connection - Vainish (Culture Beat) Shift - Age of Love Shift - Closer (Nine Inch Nails) Silver Surfers/Killer Buds/Animalis - Hey Boy Hey Girl (Chemical Brothers) Space Cat - Shake The Disease (Depeche Mode) Techtonic - Setting Sun (Chemical Brothers) Terminator - Remedy (The Prodigy - Poison) Terminator - Tribal Dance (2 Unlimited) Twisted System - Beautiful People (Marilyn Manson) Zorba - Crystallized (Snap or 2 Unlimited, I forget)

Osku emphasizes Slovakian content but this compilation also features material from Ukraine, Portugal, Italy, and the Czech Republic. The sound is undeniably underground, drawing inspiration from dark psychedelic trance and forest music without following any of the standard formulæ too closely. The mood is predominantly eerie rather than sinister; this compilation has a strange ambiance that sets it apart from many of the other releases on the market. The cover design by Genaro is particularly striking but this release does not appear to have been professionally mastered. Despite being a little rough around the edges, Cyclotron is worth a listen for fans of the darker side of psytrance, particularly for the enchanting downtempo finale. Cyclotron carries no explicit licence but the back cover states that this is a “free compilation for free spirit.” It is safe for non-commercial usage. Be sure to provide proper credit should you share it or use any of these songs in a mix. Download it for free in MP3 or WAV: http://www.ektoplazm.com/free-music/cyclotron/
