  1. I've now properly split the three Elixiria compilations into their own entries in the Ektoplazm free music catalogue: http://www.ektoplazm.com/free-music/private-message/ http://www.ektoplazm.com/free-music/avatar/ http://www.ektoplazm.com/free-music/neurological-broadband/
  2. I never did get into the Ka-Sol album (although I really like Ka-Sol!) but otherwise, I own them all... except for Goasia; hopefully I can afford that soon.
  3. The remix is superior... one of my favourite oldies!
  4. Dare I mention Trentemoller - The Last Resort? Go for the 2CD version if you can get it; the bonus disc contains some kicking tracks. Both are very good for headphones. I would also suggest: DownHill - Silent City Amon Tobin - Foley Room CPC - Double Bouble Procs - Stuck In The Oven With Me Sensient - AntiFluoro Vishnudata - Dreamforce ManMadeMan - Free To Listen BLT & Danny Makov - Anything U Want

I have written a full review of the O.V.N.I. 12" from which the song Trajectory was sourced; view it here: http://www.ektoplazm.com/reviews/ovni-trajectory-ep/

  9. Sounds interesting... I've wondered what this guy has been up to all these years.
  10. Thanks Colin, I'll probably contact you at some point... I have two thrusts here--people I can recommend to others and someone I can go to myself, for which I don't mind paying at least something (or working out some kind mutualistic exchange). Hey Witch, no offence intended. If I get back and you are offline after having sent an MSN message then obviously I don't get back to you... I think the track you sent over was pretty cool and appreciate the offer. I agree with you completely on the first point you made--that artists usually cannot master their own work properly (not unless they're seasoned veterans anyhow). Seems like I hit a nerve with this thread. Thanks for the other recommendations (chatnik et all) and I will keep everyone in mind... I do agree with the sentiment that "closing the gap" between production and mastering knowledge would be very helpful, but my general aim is to legitimize free music as a viable alternative to going commercial... and I feel part of that is professional sound quality, an issue I would like to see improved as much as I would like to see contract reform on the commercial side. Peace.
  11. Hello all... I have been mulling this one over for some time, so perhaps a bit of community input would help I'm working very hard on pushing free music as a viable release strategy in this scene, but one aspect of the process often trips me up: mastering. Artists see the value of releasing music for free (either for promotional and exposure or simply because they love to share), and of course I am quite happy to provide hosting and online promotion at no charge to anyone... the little wrinkle is this intermediate step--the mastering--which I consider essential for a high-quality end product. There are two specific thrusts to my enquiry here. The first is general: what should artists releasing their music for free do? Are there people who will master a release for free knowing that it is non-commercial? I would like to be able to have a list on hand of people who would like to donate some time to support the cause... but I don't know how realistic that is. The second aspect of this issue deals with my own netlabel, Ektoplazm Records. I've got a bunch of free releases lined up, but I have been having some difficult finding any pros willing to work for a cut rate in exchange for promotion or other favours. Even if I do spend several hundred dollars on getting the mastering done, it would not be a step toward a sustainable solution. I am not opposed to spending some money on mastering; I just find that the amounts charged are really beyond my means both as a poor university student and a guy who spends most of his free time working hard to give stuff away any suggestions on studios who might have some sympathies in this area would be really cool... So, there you have it... I am still working this through--still waiting on responses from some studios and in negotiations with others... but this mastering issue has been the toughest thing to crack so far. Any help would be greatly appreciated, both for myself and for everyone else keen on releasing music for free
  12. Thanks I am always glad to find that my efforts are appreciated! I've got a bunch of new stuff to update Psynews with... here we go: http://www.ektoplazm.com/free-music/new-bo...he-observer-ep/ http://www.ektoplazm.com/free-music/no-comment-volume-1/ http://www.ektoplazm.com/free-music/sound-...d-afro-dust-ep/ http://www.ektoplazm.com/free-music/phobiu...urg-06-10-2007/ I've also been porting a lot of the older releases to my web host... many were previously available only through BitTorrent, but if you go hunting, you may find that there are now direct links through the web. Enjoy
  13. Here we go, both compilations now online: http://www.free604.com/music/VA%20-%20Eutu...2007%20-%20MP3/ http://www.free604.com/music/VA%20-%20Eutu...2007%20-%20MP3/
  14. WAVs and a description/review are available here: http://www.ektoplazm.com/free-music/new-bo...he-observer-ep/
  15. Nice one... it is now up at: http://www.ektoplazm.com/free-music/no-comment-volume-1/
  16. Hey, you're right! I'll get on to that when I've got a moment... just been checking into how much space I have available right now and it's looking good.
  17. How about if you attend the parties? I have several TB... uh oh No, I'm just kidding around... I've bought enough music in my time to put a down payment on a house.
  18. Are people going to start whining about P2P again? :drama:
  19. I still haven't got IFO... imagine! After all these years. I had it on vinyl but I need the CD. Too bad I can't afford the crazy prices I used to pay for things...
  20. The Visitors deserve a strong mention in this thread. Cap'n Good Vibes, Tiny Little Engines, and Reality Check all top my list of chaotic old school madness. For a more classic UK sound, how about Syb Unity Nettwerk and UX? Space Puppy, Master Of The Universe, and Life Support Technology would fit nicely.
  21. Thanks again for all the nice comments! I keep getting a lot of good feedback about this one. Peace.
  22. Discogs is a great resource for everything that has been commercially released over the years, but what about all the long-lost tracks that were never cleared for one reason or another? Would it be possible to build a definitive guide to all the unreleased old school stuff that floated around on DAT back in the day? I raised this question on the discussion forum for the Goa / Psy-Trance group on Discogs near the beginning of 2007. Since then, kwulf has expanded on the concept, opting for a clever use of the Discogs draft system to amalgamate the relevant information. Access to the directory is available from the user page for the UnreleasedGoa account; click on “Browse Collection” to get to the goods. Currently there are well over 100 tracks entered into the directory along with numerous samples. Total Eclipse, Psychaos, Crop Circles, Sandman, and Doof are among some of the more well-represented artists. I wholeheartedly encourage collectors to come forward to contribute their expertise, and welcome old school fans to peruse the listings and have a taste of all that was lost over the years.
