What do you want in a special booklet edition of a cd?
Basilisk replied to Anoebis's topic in General Psytrance
Great idea! Feel free to call on me if you would like any help with editing/proofreading -
The amount of hours I sink into making a review is a bit ludicrous... the yardstick I use is a bit abstract; when I make a review I only feel it is complete when I can project forward and imagine agreeing with the words in the years to come. Of course, it never quite works that way (time changes all things) but it's something to aim for... and certainly the main reason for my reviews typically lagging behind the date of release by entire years. It's why I've been booted off all promo lists I've ever been on: I don't "produce" on time to hit the leading edge of the sales curve, so my in-depth reviews are useless to the labels, or so I figure. Oh well. Better a thorough job than some cheap knock-off for a free CD (the material value of which does not even remotely cover the amount of hours spent reviewing it).

Do I read this right?

The commercial record labels are only one part of it... and probably the smallest part at that. Unless you're Infected Mushroom or GMS, I don't think anyone makes a heck of a lot from album and track sales alone. The money is in the gigs! And gigs stem from good promotion and wide exposure, both of which should be provided by a competent netlabel. Knowing human nature, there is no way anyone could make a living doing their art on donations alone (let's be realistic here) but it sure doesn't harm none to ask

how to see if your mp3 / wave is of high quality
Basilisk replied to draeke's topic in Music Making and Production/Industry
I also suggest using EAC and this guide: http://www.audiohub.org/get/fa/sa.htm Finding out whether a WAV file is real or not is very easy once you get the knack of it... just look for the black spaces in the high frequencies or the jagged frequency cut-off; these are the marks of compression and quality loss. Remember (and this goes doubly for the DJs), music quality is your responsibility. Think of all the dogs you see romping around on the festival grounds. Maybe you can't hear the ultrasonic frequencies, but would you really wish for our canine brethren to experience anything less than perfect sound? :drama: -
I am fairly sure you can put entire WAV albums on archive.org as well... anyhow, I don't think it is so bad to ask for donations; they do good work!

Hello Psynews readers I run a web site promoting free psytrance releases from around the world. As I have done on some other forums, I will try to keep this single thread updated with new stuff that comes out, as some of these fine releases are not consistently posted here. For the latest, be sure to check ektoplazm.com! For the artists and netlabels reading this: not only can I promote your completed release, but I am skilled in copy writing (promo and bio text), packaging, hosting, distribution, graphic design, and other activities related to releasing and promoting free releases. I can often help out on a case-by-case basis with these sorts of things (subject, of course, to my interest and time available). Additionally, as Ektoplazm has become quite a successful platform for promoting free music, I am also about to kick off an in-house netlabel! Independent artists are welcome to contact me privately about that of course, I will continue to promote releases from other netlabels and independent artists as I have been doing for well over a year now... Anyhow, here are the last bunch of free releases posted to Ektoplazm, with links. This thread will be updated periodically :posford: Quantica - Astrobiology: Melodic full-on morning trance from Ibiza, Spain. http://www.ektoplazm.com/free-music/quantica-astrobiology/ V/A - Buddha Mantra - State of Spirit: A diverse compilation featuring everything from old school Goa trance to modern full-on and darkpsy. http://www.ektoplazm.com/free-music/buddha...tate-of-spirit/ Alic - Evil Fairy EP: A deep and dirty cross between techtrance, techno, and progressive. http://www.ektoplazm.com/free-music/alic-evil-fairy-ep/ DJ Basilisk - Dark Matter 2: Full-on psychedelic trance; a two-hour live recording! http://www.ektoplazm.com/free-music/dj-bas...-dark-matter-2/ Cosmo Circle - Never Land: Full-on psychedelic trance album from Portugal with an old school touch. http://www.ektoplazm.com/free-music/cosmo-circle-never-land/ V/A - Goblins Gathering: Dark psychedelic trance for the midnight depths from Para Halu, Ocelot, Frantic Noise, and more. http://www.ektoplazm.com/free-music/goblins-gathering/ V/A - Andes Trip: Intense full-on psytrance from Bolivia compiled and mastered by Erofex. http://www.ektoplazm.com/free-music/andes-trip/ Enjoy the free music! Show your support when you hear something you like and provide some appreciative feedback to the creators... it can mean a lot to all the people involved in bringing you this music for free! I was hooked right from the start! To me this sounds like a cross between Power Source's Tinkerbell and Menis (Nick Smith) circa 1998! Very nice!

This set features several different styles of full-on psychedelic trance, moving from dark and aggressive beats through a series of heavy hitters into an upbeat and euphoric conclusion. With a full two hours to work with, I was able to orchestrate a complete tour of the harmonic spectrum, eventually ending with a song from Logic Bomb’s new album, just as the set began. I would like to dedicate this one to all those who came out on Saturday and gave their best on the dance floor. It was a small party, but it seemed like we all had a blast! Enjoy the tunes! I asked weeks ago... no response. Too bad, because I liked what I heard. -
Worth it though... Drive is a fantastic album, and still somewhat hard to get.

Hey all... this is an update for the Psynews readers the project is really beginning to take form, and I will soon be ready to announce a preliminary line-up of some of the artists involved. Roughly half of the compilation has been filled, so there is still room for more! When this project began I was uncertain who might be interested, so I was not able to forecast what the "sound" of the eventual release might gravitate toward. Now I can see that the compilation is going to be pleasantly melodic and very psychedelic! This is almost non-news, but I did want to renew the call out for material "real" news will be coming soon!

As much as I would like to diversify my listening habits (I totally recognize I have been obsessively immersed in psytrance for years now) I just don't connect to much else... there is music I can appreciate on some level, but very little that I want to return to time and again. If I weren't so deep into DJing I might "get out more" but as is, it's like 99.9% psytrance, progressive, electro, techno, and chill.
