I also thought it was crap. Tikal, much like Triptych, is perpetually surfing the edge of bad taste. Every now and then they release something I find pretty good, but their failure rate is something close to 90% for my ears. By that logic you're bound to get one good tune on each Tikal album (and you do) but I don't think that's good enough to buy or hold on to.

Astrix has one I think... and I have idly speculated as to whether Interactive's cover of What Else Is There is actually a mash-up, as it has a vocoded voice that sez "techno logic" in some parts.
-
History... not their best maybe, but I think it's fairly accessible. In the first few years that I was into psychedelic trance I had a real hate-on for Etnica... never could stand their music, and then they started coming out with tracks like "Dominator" which I liked even less. Somewhere in the midst of my musical awakening I finally caught the thread of what it is about Etnica that has made so many people so frothing mad over the years... so I am saying it may take a sudden insight as opposed to a slow acclimation, but give it a shot; they have lots of great stuff to explore.

That is the funny thing about all the psytrance DJs that go big... they seem to love covers, whether it's hair metal, 80's, or grunge pop. I skipped out on seeing Tsuyoshi when he came to Toronto but I have caught Yaniv Tal (Cosmophilia guy) and Dino Psaras in the past. It was cover after cover. Dino even played his shit remix of Tainted Love twice in one set. This is why I can't help but laugh when the big shots disregard psytrance as irrelevant, old news, or not "forward-thinking" enough... so sez the guy covering Frankie Goes To Hollywood.

I am of the opinion that this group consistently makes some of the most abhorrent crap ever conceived, Cows In Mongolia being the most recent example of the sheer ugliness of their music. Admittedly it is the choice of samples (as in The Hiss) that really grates on my nerves; the music itself is just whatever.

It seems like another tired variation on the whole "Goa trance is dead" theme that he has been milking for nearly a decade now... CD of the weak indeed.

If I went into the off-topic I would post this: http://pbfcomics.com/?cid=PBF189-Keep_on_Truckin.png#178

Ahem... I challenge you for that title

Best of: Infected Mushroom with Duvdev vocals

Just picture Count Chocula* doing the rap and you'll see instant path to shiva consciousness through infected metasphere. * borrowed from someone I think, but they were bang on with this observation. -
Unofficial Filteria Remixes & Unreleaseds Album
Basilisk replied to mars's topic in Artist News and Labels announcements
Nice effort... I am glad to hear you are looking into digital distribution -
How can that guy get away with saying that 2006 releases are "out of print"? I agree... wave rips of classic oldies left abandoned by dead labels and vanished artists would be great. Any particular hub? The ones I visit are all oriented towards new stuff and new stuff alone. I seldom end up with any search results for obscure old albums that I am looking for (usually to find out whether the $6 price of that obscure oldie is indicative of the quality of the release or the ignorance of the seller).
-
Honestly... it could be worse. Those photos are sort of amusing and quirky.
-
They're all out by now... I've raided their stock and purchased pretty much every golden oldie. They still have a few less popular cult classics such as Metal Spark - Corrosive, Kopfuss Resonator - Spect-R Module, and the double-CD version of Elastic / All Boundaries Are Illusions...
-
I've done that before... bought someone here on Psynews a copy of Accidental Occidentalism from a local shop for about 20 bucks once
-
Want to go pick up a bunch of oldies, still sealed, from the shops then?
-
That's just how the market is for used oldies... information is also power--not everyone knows something has been re-released or is still available elsewhere. It's funny you link to Moment of Truth, coz I was looking at that page today, scratching my chin and going "hmmm... maybe."
-
Sure, but the opposite side of things is that some people get very emotionally attached to a particular moment in time, and when that moment passes their passion drives them to lash out in a negative way... it isn't just that people have nothing better to do, or like to feel above everyone else--in many cases people are also just railing against the system, the nature of things, how it has all gone. Some fans invest a lot of themselves into music and may become genuinely hurt when whatever they liked changes in some fashion. There are many roads to a state of jaded cynicism, but finding a way to accept things as they are is a tougher task... it's a personal thing.

Fantastic! Are you by chance remastering the material? Also, since you have an in with the group, have you thought of a second "bonus disc" with tunes from vinyl singles and compilations? Iron Sun (Remix) Purple Om Intastella Temple of Chaos Ganymede Tribes of the Moon Trance Xpress U.F.O. (and so on!) Also, while I'm dreaming, is it possible to get the final CD not mixed? Good luck Suntrip & co!

The serious answer: since day one. No, it's not a joke. If you look through USENet or other old archives you will always find people saying "it isn't the same any more" and ragging on TIP, Astral Projection, Man With No Name, Dragonfly, and others for "going commercial" and "ruining the scene"... no word of a lie! I think that very fact puts all the bitching in a new light...
-
Light and funky progressive without annoying samples works well I find I also hear from many students that my proggy mixes go well with study time.
-
You have a point... aside from the veterans I haven't heard much that impresses me in a while... oh, some good dance music, but nothing with the kind of depth I'm after... except, of course, the LPS/Ambivalent crews, who have such a unique style I am not the only one that figured out what Laup's Senip is all about, now am I?

What music are you listening to right now?
Basilisk replied to Sputum Rotgut's topic in General Psytrance
In fact, I think it may have been my cabling! I had to take a piece out to a gig to record a set on Saturday and I guess I didn't plug it back in properly... so all is well and it's on my next order! I was actually quite surprised with the album, as I wasn't much of a fan of their first (I found the sound quality lacking)... this one is, wow, I don't know, just very dark and sinister with some of that glitchy vibe I liked so much from the Peace For The Wicked compilation. Score! -

Prometheus is fantastic. Right now I'm chewing on CPC's Double Bouble... does it have some stereo mastering problem or is it just these crap MP3s I downloaded to try it out? I'd pick it up if these problems weren't present in the retail version... -
I agree, it's a good one. You can read my full review here: http://www.ektoplazm.com/reviews/oszilla-r...n-to-neverland/
