My post count went from ~1450 to where it is now... wtf? Do I really have over 1000 reviews on the old site? I find that improbable.

Out of the artists you list I would most be interested in Chromatone/Random (two guys, but either would be good to hear)... they're SF Bay-based so that means lesser air fare. The only others I would even give a recommendation to would be Rastaliens/Braincell - quality full-on with definate trance/Goa vibes. Two or three of these artists on a line-up would make me go "eurrr"... but one, with all the rest you list? Sounds like a great idea.

I think maybe you are too harsh... I just got it and have to say it has a very nice presentation and personal message from the artist, with some details about the story behind each track written in a very open way... already giving a lot of depth to the release. The sounds are pretty dry and very "proggy" but this is what I was looking for when I decided to pick it up... it doesn't seem to have much of the psychedelic flavour, but I guess that's why it's on ACDC, right? I also like how Sonic Cube II is white, and this is black... a nice contrast, I wonder if it's intentional? I guess I'll find out how this hold up under repeated listening...

Wild stuff... I easily found a few of my old reviews, and actually agreed with the comments I made. Shock & surprise! It's also amazing to see how far reviews have come, from short little three line babies to the improbably verbose essay formats of today. Then again, I'm probably the worst offender in that regard

I think my original point was lost here, but I'll try another shot into the dark. It still isn't "stealing" to download commercially-released music. It's "downloading"... certainly not "piracy", which is more akin to what happens when shady characters burn CDs and go sell them for profit. With downloading, there is no profit motive. This is far beyond the spectrum of legal and illegal, into the ambiguities of copyright law and so-called intellectual property. What kinds of information fall under the domain of intellectual property anyway? It doesn't seem like an intuitive concept that human beings are willing to accept, as evidence shows. The recording industry itself is only a hundred years old - perhaps the proportion of music released by traditional means has to change to reflect shifting consumer habits. No amount of "copy kills your music" propaganda is going to change what people do, after all. Record labels sell a combination of physical and immaterial goods, but they are losing their hold on the information of their trade. Does anyone seriously think they can reverse the tide? I think it's about time for an attitude adjustment... those who won't submit to the new reality are just going to get left behind. For the record I own all Exposure releases except for the Punk City single, which I considered somewhat frivolous. Grey Area is on order. It's still on order, even after I saw someone put up the wave files on a popular file sharing hub. I only would have purchased Sabotage if I had been forced to rely solely on samples at the shop. Detox, I think you run a good ship, and I have a small inkling of understanding regarding just how much work goes into it... but I think you're fighting a losing battle here on psynews. I say don't waste your time - some people will always be cheap ("thrifty"), others merely argumentive or self-righteous - so get back to what you do best uncommonly good full-on compilations and some dope-ass Wizzy beats.

Sorry Detox & co, but anytime anyone says that the issue of downloading is simple and clearcut I have to laugh. The very fact that this is THE biggest ongoing debate for years now should make it clear this is anything but "simple"... Stealing is robbing someone at gun point. Stealing is breaking into a store and pilfering the merchandise. Stealing is embezzling funds from your company. Stealing is slipping that chocolate bar into your pocket at the corner store. Most people have a sufficient enough sense of right and wrong to avoid doing all of these things. On the other hand, millions of people use P2P services and other stuff without a second thought. The fact is, downloading music really doesn't feel like stealing at all. The argument that downloading deprives the copyright owner of a sale is muddied by the fact that many people wouldn't bother paying for what they've downloaded. As a final farewell to this simplicity you speak of, there is also the issue of downloading introducing content to listeners and actually creating sales. The concept of "intellectual property" is debatable enough to begin with... throw in all this fast-paced technological change and you have yourself one hell of an ambiguous memetic clusterfuck. I'll tell you what is rather simple however... if you don't want anyone downloading music, don't ever release it to the public. Save it for the live sets. Now that's simple

I always like Sonica Dream quite a lot... I think it's because it reminded me of some old techno-industrial style, maybe Front 242?

Resonance Mood from Matsuri is a great one! Saikosounds often has early Trust in Trance compils, and it couldn't hurt to have a couple of those around... I have #2 and it's quite nice.

As for this automation subject... do I really have to write a message pointing out the all-too-obvious differences between pointless grunt labour like BPM counting and the complexities of actual mixing? Or maybe you think part of the creative arsenal of a DJ is his unique style of finding BPM?
