  1. @ EP: I think you meant to quote Nomad?
  2. lol how people pay attention to details It says "Caption City", nothing special just the name of the original site the pic was taken from (probably) here's a bigger sample so that you can see all the details and sleep at night
  3. well even if you don't aim that question to me I feel compelled to reply What bothers me is not that some people say he sucks (I agree that Skazi is not exactly the greatest psy artist in the world either...), what bothers me is that it's like everyone agrees at one point in time to bash a certain artist. A while ago, this happened with Astral, now it's shifting to Skazi. What I don't understand is why everyone bashes ONLY this artist when there are other equally less talented artists out there??? I never understood trends... it's like the new trend among american actors and artists to bash Bush... like if noone liked him, who the hell voted for him in the first place??? (which doesn't mean that I support Bush or anything...)
  4. don't mean any disrespect but to me it sounds like YOU'RE the one who doesn't have a clue here... IM's first album was released in 1998... the first psytrance tracks were made around 1993... Erez was like 13 at the time!! IM may have given psy a new direction but to say that they "more or less invented" psytrance... WTF???
  5. with the risk of being unpopular... I find that bassline to be one of the best basslines of the year!! *runs away and hides from the rain of empty soda cans and fruit*
  6. I never said I was always right... that's why I posted this, to discuss just why do you people consider him bad. If I considered to be always right I would've posted something like "Skazi is a good artist and you all should respect him." Anway, back to the topic, until now I'm not really convinced by the arguments here... the statements an artist makes shouldn't have an influence on the way one judges his music IMO. And with the sounds and all... well, he DOES use them differently compared to most artists, right? I mean personally I can recognize a Skazi track anywhere, even if I haven't heard it before! So that should make him win points for originality, no? If you want an example of someone using badly the sounds: Sub6... Again, I'm not saying that Skazi's the best or anything just that I can think of 100 other artists that are MUCH worse and who don't such a bad rap...
  7. Ok, their music is kindof simplistic BUT it is NOT your typical full-on and IMO they know how to make fun tracks for parties. Sure it sounds a bit cheezy but everyone smiles when they hear a track like Smells Like Humus Spirit at a party. They're not THAAAT bad, I could think of 100 other names that are much worse and cheezier than Skazi (latest IM and X-Dream for example, to name just the "big names"...)
  8. that's odd... I heard that he was already making electronic music in the 80s so by my calculations he should've been an expert by 1995 And what about his own albums he released around the same period?? Oh and this is kindof off-topic but... I once heard Sven Vath DJ in Belgium a few years ago and... his set didn't have a SINGLE trance track!! It was all minimal Detroit techno till the end... I was kindof confused since he seemed to promote mostly trance...
  9. R U joking??? Terence McKenna has EVERYTHING to do with the trance culture!! Like you said, TONS of well-known psy producers used the man's samples in their tracks and who among psytrancers never read a book by McKenna? Anyway, I agree that this is a good chill-out album, there is a bit too much "speech" in there but it works well in certain circumstances. The major problem I found with it was that if you listen to a track repeatedly you end up knowing by heart the man's speech so you kindof don't want to listen to it anymore cause it bores you... Too bad there was never an "instrumental version" of this album... And I was wondering... is there some video or DVD with the IMAGES as well as the music? Cause just listening to the music without the visuals they mention during the session kindof makes me feel like I'm missing something...
  10. TIP - Mystical Experiences?? BTW now that some you you mention it, I also find that that Fly Agaric track was HORRIBLE!!!! Especially since the stakes were so high on that one (I remember all the "OMG! OMG! Simon P and IM collaboration coming! OMG!" threads...)
  11. how can people make judgements based on 3-minutes samples???
  12. oh let me guess: the other phones you've heard are the stock earbuds that came with your Aiwa walkman?
  13. and just how did you listen to that album on the 16th when it's released on the 22nd??? Did you actually listen to the whole album or are just making judgements based on 3-minute samples?
  14. that will be hard unless you buy second-hand... personally I'm part of "Team Beyer" myself with a pair of DT990s That said, be carefull at the impendance specs: usually good phones also have high impendance which means that if you don't have a good dedicated headphone amp, the cans will sound like crap!! Also, DT990s and HD600/650s are OPEN phones which is NOT what you'd want for DJing... In the Beyer range, I know that the DT770s are basically the closed version of the DT990s and have THE strongest bass on the market so if you're a basshead, that's what you'll need. Also, the top of the range Beyers now are the DT880s, NOT the DT990s (the 880s are more recent in design and concept and have a killer look ) But when all is said and done, nothing beats the Etys: these are phones that you actually plug into your ear canal so the sound is made like 2-3 mm away from your eardrum. This is the closest you can get to pure distortion-free sound reproduction without hooking the music signals directly to your brain I doubt they'd be good for DJ use though
  15. hehe the cover art is refreshing all right... When everyone's trying to make cool and slik computer graphics, this comes along... I'm sure that if you stroll through the CD collection of your local psyshop (in case you still have that priviledge our days...) and see this cover, you'll probably wonder if the shop clerk didn't put the CD in the wrong section So my feelings on the CD... well quite frankly I'm amazed to see how much wierdness comes out of Funland. I mean, you'd excpect that the Texas Faggots made a wierd style and that everyone would make a similar random style but which would sound more or less the same. But it's never the case!! ALL finnish artists sound wierd but each in their OWN way!! Some tracks tend to give you a headache from all the wierdness, others sound very nice (I could actually imagine Luuloterve being played in a "normal" full-on set!!), and yet others sound odd at first but eventually grow on you... Indeed the last half of the album is more ambient and sounds more conventional (or is it just that the human mind is more used to accepting wierdness when it comes in low BPMs?) Anyway, just like the other finnish stuff it's a love-or-hate thing and appreciation is EXTREMEY subjective, some people might find this the most creative release ever whereas other will label it as "random shit". I tend to agree with both remarks!! (yes, listening to finnish stuff does wierd things to your brain ) I would recomend this album above other finnish releases this year if you're into wierd chill-out, if you're more into wierd full-tempo stuff, I'd still go for Mandalavandalz though....
  16. well I think it helps if you see this as an ELECTRO release... in psytrance terms this isn't really good. Actually I only like Superintelligence , Distresser and Slim Drum that sound like something that should've been on the upcoming The Delta album... Then there are tracks like The 1st , We Interface and Ultratube that sound cheezy as hell!!! It really sounds like club music with a small hint of psy... The others sound like some very good ambient-electro crossover... So it's pretty hard to rate this album since there are many different styles on it that don't appeal to everyone...
  17. best: Shpongle worst: ... Hallucinogen (!!)

  19. ah yes, good idea DP This wasn't really a review topic since the beginning anyway. I put it in general cause it refers to psytrance music
  20. you don't find that a track released on an EP in 95 (when not many people were into goa in the first place) and never featured on a comp or anything is NOT rare? Well, of course, compared to some white label vinyl that was pressed in ultra-limited quantity and distributed for promo purposes only I agree but for people into buying albums on CDs it's pretty rare no? and it's not because someone has more than one copy of something that it's not rare for other people... if someone has 3 Ferrari Enzos, does that mean that it's not a rare car?!?
  21. err... must I remind everyone that this is supposed to be a REVIEWS section? All debates are welcome in the Off-topic or General sections...
  22. Transwave - The Rezwalker (Black Thunder Mix) Juno Reactor - Masters of the Universe (Front 242 Pure Remix) Hallucinogen - Cosmic Cubes
  23. not really oldschool but could it be... Toi Doi - Spiral Drive ?
