  1. randomly stumbled on this tune and I liked it a LOT, but have no idea where to look for more since I don't really know the style... some sort of melodic minimal house?
  2. Treehouse of Horror lol
  3. well actually that didgeridoo sample sounds a LOT like the one in the intro to Scarab... and while we're talking about organic instruments and originality... nothing even comes close to this IMO: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B_0oKQsW-iE
  4. thanks for the infos guys, I'm checking them out right now
  5. well I'd say that the first reason is that no record labels paid attention to Eastern Europe in the 90s... underground artists only started getting recognition with the dot com boom when it became much easier to get your tracks known, for example thanks to certain website competitions Another thing would be that there was no electronic music culture in the East, it was already hard enough to get your hands on commercial pop music during the communist era, let alone some underground EBM that was the primary source of trance later on, so I guess it took a while for people to get used to electronic sounds... and also the communist regime had zero tolerance for drugs, drug trafficking could result in the DEATH penalty, so again, even after the fall of the regime it took some years for mentalities to change... And finally, I guess that in Western Europe when artists started trying out neogoa the lables had a "been there, done that" attitude whereas in the East it was all new. my 2 cents
  6. as crazy as this might sound, this image is NOT computer generated! It is simply done by high-speed shooting of colliding drops of liquid of different colours (man, I should try that ) more explanations here
  7. hey just realized that it's been quite a while since I haven't bought any new dark trance releases... anything new out there worth paying attention to? Any new directions Just realized that I've completely missed out on Orestis, maaan those were some killer tunes! Anything else like this out there? http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=pCGYBhlwxsk
  8. So I think my quest to find a psytrance podcast that is regularly updated and explores enough sub-styles (old and new) to keep me interested and has detailed playlist (nothing more frustrating then listening to a killer track and not knowing what it was IMO) has finally ended. Here is what I think is THE best psytrance podcast series out there: http://trancendance.net/ unlike most podcasts, instead of insisting on only one sub-genre all the time (when it's not outright shameless label self-promotion) this one has an inceredibly vast range, going from early 90s classic trance to modern full-on and even cross-blend dubstep and electro-house tracks. I find it's a great way of keeping in touch with the scene, just dload the latest podcast, put it in your mp3 player and off you go What do you guys think? Anything else worth considering here?
  9. LOL it sounds like David Guetta Vs Rusko... Messenger 2012 is pretty nice though
  10. brand new Paul Oakenfold release... I must admit that it's pretty darn good!
  11. ummm well... my opinion is quite different The thing is that back in the days there was a LOT more room for creativity than today, most people who were active in the scene back then will tell you that there was an "anything is possible" feeling and doing stuff that didn't integrate in the "norm" was well... normal Think of dubstep today: you have stuff ranging from very calm almost chill-out dubstep to very agressive stuff and even commercial stuff, yet it is ALL called simply dubstep, it was the same for psytrance back in the day IMO. If anything, people differentiated different styles by nationality, you had the Israeli style which was the most melodic, UK style which was darker, "Aussie/ Japanese/ Matsuri-style" which was on the wierd side, German style which was more techno-oriented, etc... Although most of all, trancers formed "fan-clubs" of a certain artist, and would adore just about ANYTHING that was released by that particular artist so you had endless discussions on whether Simon Posford was the best or Astral Projection or MWNN etc. The whole "I only listen to sub-sub-sub-style no.1 and all the other sub-sub-sub-styles are crap" attitude only came after 2000 when people started using "minimal" to differentiate the new wave of psy hitting the scene which was very different from what used to be made out there, people usually drew the line between "new" and "old" psy with Atmos - Headcleaner, Hux Flux - Criptic Crunch, Shiva Chandra - Auricular and The Delta - Schizzoeffective (which once you think of it, although it was a common practice to put them all in the "minimal" category were in fact very different styles...) so "retro-actively" splitting the styles would be artificial and wouldn't quite represent how people saw the scene back then IMO.
  12. umm... maybe I'm in my "negative fuck" mode but I checked out those tracks and didn't find anything special about them...
  13. ughhh I soooo hate those "look-at-me" youtube vids where some attention-starved wannabe comedian throws some stupid comments on some random topic in the hope of getting noticed...
  14. no Photoshop here, the water is so clear that it creates the illusion that the boat is flying
  15. http://www.lesoir.be/ local newspaper, allows me to keep in touch with the world out there
  16. Ok, dubstep is not specifically mentioned in it but I think those typical dubstep wobbles that you hear just about everywhere these days were what inspired Trey and Parker to make those crap sounds... What do you guys think? BTW one of the best episodes ever IMO, I'm sure all oldschoolers will relate to it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pPde4iCY2jw full episode link
  17. just seen this and I thought I should share it with you: And many people think animals don't have emotions. His wife was seriously injured. She was hit by a car as she swooped low across the road. He brought her food and tended to her with love and compassion. He brought her food again but was shocked to find her dead. He tried to move her....a rarely-seen effort for swallows. Aware that his mate is dead, he cries with adoring love. He stood beside her, saddened by her death. Finally, he stood beside her body with sadness and sorrow.
  18. this is how the new New York cabs will look like (what were they thinking??)
