The first time you realized psytrance was the shit
Lemmiwinks replied to Geostigma's topic in General Psytrance
nice but what we really want to know is... DID YOU GET THE GREEK CHICK IN YOUR BED??? -
well we'd be tempted to but we shouldn't... karma my friend
-
ummm it depends on how you look at it... in that particular case the pic turned against the executor, still the overall anti-war message is intact IMO. I mean, if there wasn't any war, there wouldn't be such situations in the first place, no?

Digitization of audio tapes Old school
Lemmiwinks replied to psysurfeur's topic in General Psytrance
wow one of my first conacts with the scene was through this radio show, it sure brings back some memories many thanks BTW how about video streaming the equivalent trance show from MCM (I think it was called Raven?) -
cool, thanks mate
-
arpeggiators were just an example... you also have delays and various FX that make you music sound "cool". Again, I'm not saying EVERYONE does is that way, and I certainly admit that even with the randomness element you still need a heavy dose of talent (otherwise I'd be the new Simon Posford lol)

hi everybody! I've just come across these GREAT tracks but have no idea who made them if anyone could help I would appreciate it The first one sounds more like classic trance, like one of Dag Lerner's multiple projects, of course I can be wrong. http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=cJEdkYf-scg&feature=youtu.be and the second one is more like oldschool goa and has the sample "It's a disenchanted, restless, insecure generation continually searching for new kicks.", in case it helps http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=06basr_eLCM&feature=youtu.be so there... please help thanks

modern ways of keeping in touch with the scence?

but I thought you were gonna STOP developing the Ektoplazm project?? -
BTW funniest stoerotype I've heard: "This is the music everyone will be listening to when the End of the World will come!" (from one of those hardcore Christians that have a fish sticker on the back of their cars lol)

umm well like with all stereotypes there IS a grain of truth in there... for the drugs well I'm sorry but that IS the impression you get when you're at a festival. And on a personal level, of course I can enjoy this kind of music when clean, otherwise I couldn't keep a dayjob, but everything does sound a million times better when high... also the music itself (certain styles more than others, like dark psy IMO) is clearly made with drug usage in mind, the little sounds designed to freak you out, the ultra-fast bassline made to stimulate your trip, the "spiral way" the melodies are built coming back and forth. Also, not until I've tried drugs did I realize why psy parties had a tendency to end around 10AM, because that's about the time when the LSD everyone takes around midnight wears off... So, of course, I'm not saying that you HAVE to be high to appreciate all this but saying that is no relation between the scene and drugs would be major denial. And for the random noises... TRUE!! I was actually one who started by thinking on the contrary that psy artists were superhuman masterminds that carefully put in every little sound at an exact place for a certain effect. I also actually believed that arpeggios were actually PLAYED note by note by the artist on a synth and amazed on how fast they could play (I have a bit a classical piano training in my background). Now some years later I started fiddling with some DAW software myself and realized just how much a little device called an arpeggiator was conviently used in there. When I fiddled around a bit and ended up with a melody sounding like MFG... my respect for these artists was greatly diminished... Of course, I'm not saying that you don't need talent but still, randomness DOES indeed play a big role in electronic music creativity. Well, the problem is that people will forever be imprinted with the music that was around when they were teens. That's just how it works, hence all the nostalgia related to a certain scene. Personally I'm fully conscious of this and try to keep in touch with modern stuff yet whatever I do I still hold the "old days" close to my heart and always end up thinking that new music, no matter how much I appreciate it, is still somehow inferior to how it used to be.

modern ways of keeping in touch with the scence?

hmm well this is my problem with the scene these days, everything is just too spread out! Back in the days you came on a forum and had most of the infos you needed on the scene (new releases, upcoming parties, endless discussions on who is the best artist ever lol). Now it feels like I have to do twice the effort and don't even get the infos I really want. I mean, even for releases, some are still released in CD format, others on iTunes, etc I feel lost out there.. -
THEEE absolute best track by him (and not many people know about it) is Talking Souls - Karma 209 (later it was released on retro comps under Tim Schuldt). Definately in my top 20 EVER http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=rR1NWX2ujVo and in general you should definately check out Chi-AD IMO, this is my personnal no. 1 goatrance track of all time: http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=cGBK2NHprek

BTW this one is the best IMO:

hmm well I get what you're saying but at the same time, it is precisely those kinds of pictures that impress most people. And they're not completely usseless BTW since they show the public some absurd sitation (suffering caused by war most of the time). For example this particular picture played a major role in retreating the US troops from Vietnam back in the days: Also for the recognition going to the photographer and not the subject I think that's logical since the photographer took the picture so... I mean, I can understand the exploitation point of view but I don't really think some other way of remunerating this.

lol that's pretty funny actually considering that Labyrinth isn't really the most representative album of the scene. But anyway, I'd trade my oldschool experience with your young age anyday -

don't remember the exact year since it's been a while but I rekon it must have been 1995-1996 (me being 15-16 years old), I was randomly changing channels on a late Friday evening and I stumbled on a show on a french music TV station (MCM) which showed computer images with DJ mixes of "underground" music (mostly goatrance) in the background. I remember that I was HOOKED, nothing even came close to that kind of music, it sounded like it was made by aliens, I just couldn't imagine human beings creating it, and once the show was over I remember I couldn't go to sleep because of the adrenaline rush I got from listening to all that great music. This being the 90s (no internet), it was pretty hard to find proper infos on the scene and I remember that because they happened to show an interview with Tsuyoshi Suzuki (Prana) and all the Buddha and mandala images shown during the show I somehow got the feeling that Goa was a place in Japan and this was Japanese trance (sounds stupid now lol but I remember back then it sounded very logical to me ). I remember a bit later I taped an "underground mix" on a French radio station late at night (FUN Radio, think the show was called Cyber Trance?) and I listened to that tape for YEARS on my Walkman. All the "classics" were in there MWNN - Teleport, Hallucinogen - Alpha Centauri, Prana - Tayo (Chakra Remix), AP - Mahadeva etc. and also some more obscure names that still are pretty good tracks IMO like Headman - Work My Mind (Steve Mason & PETE Mix) and others I never managed to hunt down (and in a moment of stupidity I simply threw away the tape considering that I had all the good music on CDs anyway -- damn!!!) Still, as far as I can remember THE one distinct track that got me into the scene (and they showed the video at LEAST once every Friday evening on MCM so I don't know if it can really be called "underground") Astral Projection - People Can Fly, this will forever hold a special place in my heart, I've listened to it THOUSANDS of times (if not millions) but it still sounds good today and after all these listens IMO http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_dRt1B4afU (I'm glad that the music aged better than the computer graphics BTW ) -

ah cool didn't even know that we had a facebook page lol thanks -
hello people!! With all the modern social networking going on, I kindof feel like a dinosaur when I come on this site... I was wondering, is there any more modern way to keep in touch with our scence?
