don't even get me started on that... IMO the main difference between newschool and oldschool (and the reason why newschool will never beat oldschool IMO) is precisely the absence of great melody hooks. That said, if you search hard there are some gems out there... my vote goes for Khetzal - Djaningar (6:20, and the way the other flute melody takes over @ 7:06 OMG!! one of the best moments in psytrance IMO) http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=uMnC4z41hZY

ok, can we at least make it a top 3? I mean, my head is overflowing with great melodies I'd like to share, I can't bare it My no. 2: Astral Projection - Liquid Sun (the whole track, but more particularly the bit starting @ 3:30) AP - Liquid Sun And my no.3: Space Tribe vs electric Universe - Alkaloid Experiment (3:30) http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=o_1WYK-wkec

hey funny that most people mention Shakta's Lepton Head, personally I found that melody pretty annoying after a while. Ah well, I guess one can't argue with taste

hey that's my youtube channel, glad you liked it

hey, what happened to my topic??
-
hehehe yeah I agree that I'm a sucker for melodies, IMO goatrance was ALL about the melodies back in the days But anyways, what 2010 release would deserve 4/5 or higher in your opinion, then? Just curious...
-
lol the moment I read the thread title my mind immediately filled with like a hundred different melodies from tracks I like... but you asked for only ONE... well... ummmm... then I'd go for Hyperion - Sun Flower (starting at 5:02) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IRwHSc75qS8 (hoping I won't change my mind in the next few hours lol)

ummm... not quite... you said it yourself that the first generation were largely inspired (and understadibly so) by Kraftwerk... and you said yourself that Atkins kindof started it all by doing electro and that May and Saunderson came in afterwards, so I don't really see why you claim to give counter arguments, it looks to me like you're confirming what I've said lol Anyway, I know that all this "who came first, the chicken or the egg" debates are endless and that no matter how far you dig you'll always find some other underground artist who has done it before already, I was simply pointing out that one can find some cool electro tracks under the "Detroit techno" category, even if at first hand it might sound confusing. I myself started to know these kind of tracks in sets played by Dave Clarke under tha name "Detroit techno" and didn't really understand why until I read a bit on the history of techno. Mind you, it is not ME who lables them "detroit techno", it is the DJs or the artists themselves... And then this whole confusing name-branding/ style thing isn't anything new, I mean I bet that in 10 years time there will be people wondering just why the hell are both progressive and full-on called "psytrance" since they have like nothing in common.

well yeah but on the other hand you had to put up with all those pesky small record store owners with an attitude. Not having the hippie/ underground/ outcast look would bring me some problems, like: - Hello, what new goatrance releases do you have? - What, YOU're into goatrance?? - Err... yes... - Well how come someone like YOU is into goatrance? (getting annoyed by this time, feeling like telling the dude "look, I've been into trance for many years and probably know a lot more about it that YOU do", but remaining polite and smiling): - Well, I just like it... now show me some new CDs, ok? - Well you don't LOOK like someone who'd be into goatrance... or I'll never forget this conversation (just seen an ad on the internet saying a record store in my city was selling tickets to a psy festival in Belgium for a discount) - Hello, may I please have a ticket for Senseblender. - Oh I'm sorry I don't have any. - Are you sure? You know, the upcoming psy festival near Brussels, Senseblender? - No, I'm sure. - Well, um you see I saw an ad on the web saying you have. - No no, I'm sure we don't, maybe it's another store. - Well, how many stores with this name and adress are there? - No, I'm sure there's a mistake somewhere... - Ok *just turning around to exit and see a BIG Senseblender flyer on display on the entry door* Well what about THIS? - Oh that... you mean SENSEblender, ok but I only have one left OK? Don't tell your friends... and so on, personally I'm pretty glad that such freakin jerks went out of business...

I remember being a kid and walking on the streets in NY and seeing these guys with a boombox spread a carton on the floor and start makin some moves hehe it seemed SOOOO cool at the time Looking back, most of the music was crap but every once and then there's still one or other pretty nice track. BTW this is where it all started, artists were for the first time making music ONLY by using the legendary 303, 808 and 909 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_rYuFr-L_X4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mcI_GM3iS0o So what are your picks?
-
Haha that's a nice way of putting it, I can totally relate to that

BTW how bout this goa/ electro hybrid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XloVGDsg4VE&feature=related
-
mmmm trancy electro: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8MTM4p0Hx0o&feature=related and one of my all-time favorites http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TLsOhCCiY4o

yep, Anthony Rother rules!! My only objection is that his tracks are extremely linear, like the same loop played over and over, no climaxes, no nothing, but I guess that those are the carachteristics of electro. BTW, you have a point with techno... Few people know this but actually the first generation of Detroit techno sounded a LOT more like electro than like techno (remember breakdance? ). Stuff like Derrick May, Kevin Saunderson etc only came afterwards. Why am I saying this? Because if you search hard in the Detroit techno area you will stumble on some perfect electro-style tracks (but it's not easy to find) Here are some examples: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9y9Snt1g5E http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I280cxs2jvA

hmmm well somehow he is right... I mean, the places, the architecture and the paintings are all described with 100% accuracy. And then if he actually believes in his theories then good for him Although he never ever says that his theories are anything else than just theories, just that they seem plausible to HIM, based on his research. I don't see anything wrong with that.

motherfuckers they actually reached 100.000 views... it took a while but we got there

You sir, have obviously lived in a cave for the last 5 years and never heard a full-on or dark psy release in your life. If you think this has painfully obvious progression then what about like 99% of the tracks released today?
-
lol well I guess it depends on how you see it... if anyone in this world knew the TRUTH about theses things then he wouldn't be writing books of fiction, he's be winning Nobel prizes and possibly create the religion of the future. All Brown could do is shed some light on some mysteries and speculate on them. I think many people tend to forget that his books are in the FICTION cateogry in the library, not History, Religion or Philosophy... and for a fiction writer, he's pretty damn good, no doubt about that

BTW what's up with that Darth Vador sample? lol

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qw8oYM_krA8&feature=related A bit annoyed by the vocals but otherwise this is pretty damn good

1 Joy (Radio Edit) 4:56 2 Joy (Progress Edit) 6:44 3 Joy (Extended Version) 6:29 4 Joy (Progress Mix) 9:22 5 Joy (Chill On Mix) 6:20 6 Joy (Instrumental) 9:20 YAY Astal are back!!! Hmm well, kindof cause this isn't quite psytrance, more on the vocal club trance side of things... don't say I didn't warn you So, I guess that just by seeing the remix names you could guess which ones are worth skipping and which are worth listening to (yes don't bother with the first 4, just skip directly to no. 5 and 6). When you come to the Chill On Mix all of a sudden this starts getting interesting with a nice breakbeat electro-ish version of the track. The vocals eventually appear on here as well, but somehow they make sense here, I really really like this version! Then, the best version is the instrumental one, although believe it or not, those cheezy vocals make their way over here as well, but just for a short while. The beginning is actually quite promissing, more on the chilled progressive side of things, you have a hard time realizing this is Astral, all those little trademarks that made their sound aren't there any more, instead you have a quite nice goth guitar loop. This might sound cheezy but believe me, it works out REALLY great. Then it kindof loses momentum around 5:30 with a pretty childish full-onish melody. Then, after a brief insert of vocals, the lovely guitar loop comes over again and there's anice melody on top, the end result is pretty good IMO. I remember that already back in the days Astral came under fire from purists for being commercial, this one would've drawn a HUGE flame war a few years back. However, with people like Yahel and Infected Mushroom having defected to the commercial side this doesn't really come as a surprise IMO. For what it's worth, and as long as you keep in mind that this has NOTHING to do with the Astral we used to know and love, the last 2 mixes are quite enjoyable, I really like playing them while driving during a nice sunny day. 3/5

http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=m-4M67tq3DY&feature=related PS LOOOOL like what kind of idiot doesn't know that they started their career in Israel??? That's the reason why it's important to do some background checking before actually taking an interview...

hmm funny, personally I find that the only track on Amen that I'd still want to listen to today is Nexus... Other than that, well even though they didn't actually release an album yet, they HAVE released a handfull of tracks on various comps in 2009: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_x-yhQSYfw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0NVPb-FdKW4&feature=related
