yeah but I can't find the link to the actual mix...
-
Yhaaa!!! Thanks to that mix I FINALLY found the track that they were playing on VuuV: http://www.4shared.com/file/122829110/e56667f6/20090801_010216.html thanks mate!! Heh so I guess I'm even later to jump in the dubstep bandwagon...
-
me too!! Other than that... I used to think that Goa was a place in Japan and that goatrance was electronic music made by japanese artists. That was because back in those days Prana was pretty hot and I saw Tsuyoshi Suzuki's name everywhere... also you had all the buddhist symbology and all... mind you this was BEFORE the internet days, when finding infos on an underground culture was REALLY hard...
-
so with festival season slowly coming to an end I was wondering what would you guys consider to be the anthems of 2009? You know, the kind of tracks that you here everywhere you go and just stay in your mind for days and days?
-
just saw Woody Allen's latest movie, Vicky Christina Barcelona, and I must say that the dude has totally lost it... It lasted for an hour and a half but it felt like 3 hours, that's how boring it was. I'm so glad I didn't actually have to pay to see this one
-
ok thanks people! I didn't even know that dubstep existed... I'll definately check out some tracks
-
So yesterday I went to a party and the DJ played Toi Doi's Spiral Dive... my God this track hasn't aged one bit after almost a decade!! I can't believe that I forgot all about it myself, before it used to bee one of my favorite tracks. So what do you gous think about this album? It certainly deserves the classic rating IMO. Too bad Toi Doi's other albums were light years behind this one...
-
you can blame the record lables for that... believe me, there are TONS of psy artists out there who try to release stuff with a different sound but they never get signed because the record lables just want more of the same. For a record label it's a risk: either release something that sounds the same as a billion other albums out there and be sure to sell a certain amount... or release something completely different and have a 2 in 3 chance to be a flop.
-
WTF??? I suggest you clear the wax out of your ears before listening to this... this is DARK psy, nothing to do with full-on... BTW just to say that even after all these years, this one still ranks high on my top album list. CLASSIC!!!!

Wikipedia is your best friend when in doubt So I guess that most people on this thread refered to the ego in the first sense whereas you ment it in the second sense
-
hmm I wouldn't call that ego, rather consciousness... And no, I don't think anyone would want to lose that BTW just to dispell a certain myth: altered states of consciousness don't necessarily destroy the ego (or bad ego), I've found that some experiences actually enforce the ego, they end up making you feel all-powerfull (the "power" one's supposed to get after taking the ring in Lord of the Rind is pretty close to what it feels like)

Totally agree with Ormion here, except for a handfull of tracks I've never been a huge Penta fan either. I can imagine how this kind of music will make someone high go crazy at a party but there's really nothing much happening in there. You really feel like Penta just throws whatever idea comes to his mind over a rolling bassline. Like for example track 1 around 3:30 he makes use of pure sinewave sounds... like WTF??? If using pure sinewaves is called being creative these days, then why not put a mic next to your asshole and record yourself taking a fart then while you're at it? 2,5/5

well umm... I think that it then boils down to the use of certain substances or not... taking substances is not a must but it sure helps achieve such states. And if trance parties seem to work better than other music styles is because they are specifically made with hallucinogenic substances in mind (the music, the deco, etc). Now of course I'm not saying that it's the only way or anything, I remember some wise words from a yogi saying something like magic mushsrooms can help you reach and altered state, but once you know how to get there, you could just as well reach it just by taking a bath...
-
Well don't mix up the tools you use with what you do with them. Here's a parallel example: you can buy some weights, use them for a week and let them rust in a corner of your bedroom for the rest of the time. OR, you can use those weights every day, and do some running and swimming and biking and become a fit person with a nice body. Does buying those weights make you become fit? NO. It is the way you use them that makes all the difference. The same goes with altered states of consciousness: you can just have an experience every once in a while and go back to your usual self the next day. Or you can use those experiences to take a look on your life and decide if it's headed in the right direction or if you shouldn't change course. Some people might go as far as abandoning a cushy job and stable lives to go live in the mountains with just enough money to get by. Others (like myself) just try to be a better person and live a life where they're not attached to materialistic values. I mean don't get me wrong, I do have an apartment, a job and a car but at the same time I don't feel the need of buying stuff I don't really need just for the sake of buying "I buy, therefore I am" kindof guy, and I know that my altered state experiences did a lot to change that. And I'm very thankfull because otherwise I bet I would've been just another sucker out there with some 20.000 euros debt and a house full of stupid useless things...

yes but I thought that VooV standed for Violation of Ordinary Values? Kindof some statement against our modern capitalistic society. Or maybe that's why they changed it from VooV to VuuV? lol

Top 100 DJs 2009 powered by Trackitdown.net
Lemmiwinks replied to AlieNed's topic in General Psytrance
sorry but this kind of voting is complete nonsense... So if some bedroom DJ noone's ever heard of gets enough of his friends to vote, then he'll be the official top DJ in the World? Come on now, there must be a more objective way of coming up with a top list... -
1 - Different Form 2 - Tribal Mentality 3 - Stillness Within 4 - Conscious Creators 5 - Procession 6 - Light Craft 7 - Flower Of Light ManMadeMan are back this time with an online-only (and free) album. To tell you the truth, I've stopped being an MMM fan since their Drama EP way back in 1997 but still, I just can't help myself from listening a new offer from an old artist. In case you were wondering, no this has absolutely nothing to do with oldschool, although it does have a nice distinct vibe, some sort of crossblend between downtempo and progressive, and it also picks up with some full-on elements near the end. I'd like to start out with a praise to the production, I know that all modern productions have that crispy sound but this one has some extra-crispiness in it which is a real ear-pleaser on the first few listens (then you get used to it). Especially the kick has this little explosive feeling all while being contained, it's really nice. The album starts off with Different Form which is an excellent album (and set) opener. It starts like some chill-out, then slowly picks up the pace, but not too much. There are some nice piano melodies which slowly turns into a very freaky pad sound around 6:30 which sends shivers down my spine. I love it!! Too bad the last 2 minutes don't really bring anything new to the track, if it was um to me I would've cut it after 10 minutes (out of a total 12:38). Tribal Mentality is up next, pretty much in the same vein as the first one: start off as some beatless ambient with some nice violin leads, then the beat kicks in, a wee bit more agressive than the 1st track, although the overall feeling is still calm. It also lacks a bit of progression compared to the first track and when something is called tribal, I'd expect it to have more tribal elements in there (there are some, but not many). Still, this is one of the better tracks here. Stillness Within is the most calm and freeform track here. It sounds like some movie-theme with a slow broken beat and some piano malodies thrown on top of some arpeggios. Nice, but nothing particularly impressive. Conscious Creators is the one I like least here, it has a commercial techno feeling in it, and that stupid bassline just goes on and on during the entire track. I just choose to skip this one... Procession picks up the pace even more, with an interesting manipulation of a sample from what I think is Missy Elliot's Get Your Freak On (the part that goes HOLLA). I can imagine this will bring some smiles on the dancefloor, but it's not quite my cup of tea. Liftcraft is the fastest track here, and the one that sounds most like full-on. It starts like some pretty generic full-on (except it has that extra-crispy production I've been talking about). There's nothing that really stands out in the first part of the track, but if you're patient enough you'll hear some great wind pad progressions kick in around 5:35 which will make you want to jump out of your chair and dance. I really like this one Then the album comes to a rather abrupt end with Flower Of Light, the second full chill-out track on the album. Although there are some interesting atmospheric pads in there, the overall result is pretty generic, there's nothing that really grabs my attention here. THE GOOD: Production is A+ level and also, the first part of the album has a nice feeling to it, halfway between chill-out and progressive, I found it does wonders when you want to get in the mood for partying (or coming back from a party). THE BAD: Parts of the album are pretty generic, you have a hard time making the difference between MMM and like a billion other artists out there. CONCLUSION: Not the album of the year or anything but I found it is quite an enjoyable listen after all. On the other hand, MMM have been miles away from classic material for almost a decade now so I don't think this will come as a surprise to anyone. 3,5 /5

ha well I had the best time the first night on the open mind floor. The prefect sunrise without any clouds, and the way the stage was allinged precisely in the direction of the rising sun was just amazing. Then the second night I was kindof tired so I didn't stay that long and as you know, the last night it was pooring rain so we decided to call it quits and go to sleep. I had a good time and all but I couldn't shake of the feeling that something was missing (don't know if it was because something was actually missing or just that I have become too old for this stuff...).
-
what you were there dude? Too bad I didn't know, I could've walked up and say hi... ah well, maybe next time. And yeah I kindof agree, they definately put up a show with the lasers and fireworks and such but in the end it wasn't all that impressive (I mean, after all, this is VuuV, the mother of all trance festivals!). I also had the feeling that everything was über-commercial, like everywhere you'd turn, someone would be trying to sell you something, like can't someone just have a good time without having to buy something every 15 minutes anymore??
-
Indeed, the lightshow was spectacular. I didn't even think one could fit in that many lasers on a scene lol. Check out the first one with the fireworks, I found it was the most impressive. Also the ones entitles "dark side of the moon" and "general view".
-
well how hard is it to put it on an online sharing site like http://www.4shared.com? It's free you know And, considering it's an old mix I don't think there's a lot of people who'd object on copyright issues...
-
hehe yeah I always tell my gf to shut up when filming but she never listens. And no, no goa as far as I know... still, it was cool
-
So since it's summer time and all I suppose a lot of you have been travelling to festivals around the World. Wouldn't it be cool to have links to all the festivals around? Here I start: VuuV 2009 Mainfloor Fireworks VuuV 2009 Open Mind Floor Daytime VuuV 2009 Mental Gymnastics Floor VuuV 2009 Open Mind Floor Nighttime VuuV 2009 Open Mind Floor Nighttime 2 VuuV 2009 General View VuuV 2009 General View 2 VuuV 2009 Dragons Deco VuuV 2009 Dark Side of the Moon Night VuuV 2009 Dark Side of the Moon 2 VuuV 2009 Mainfloor Opening BTW if anyone can recognize any of the songs played it would be cool to list them
-
and how exactly do you expect us to help you if you don't put a link so we can hear it?
-
hi there! Just came back from VuuV and they played this killer downtempo track (sounded like idm) at the chill-out section. I filmed a part of it, can anyone tell me what it was? IDM? thanks
