  1. well if you ask me, there's a HUGE difference between MFG and AP on one hand and Pleiadians and Filteria on the other. Even if MFG started off being inspired by AP their sound has changed dramatically from one album to the next, whereas Filteria seems to remain stuck to the IFO "formula". But we're splitting ends here and in the end as long as the music is good, who cares anyway?
  2. well he is... Filteria himself admits to be largely inspired by IFO dude it's youtube, it's compressed like shit, what do you expect? lol But it's a good way of having a general idea of a track
  3. Quod Erat Demonstrandum It's the same with Filteria: he follows the IFO formula too but you'll never hear anyone say that his albums are classics (which doesn't mean they're BAD, just that they're not classics...). Like I said in an earlier post, this is the kind of thing that separates the good from the best
  4. I am pleasantly surprised... but it doesn't even come close to IFO and/or Astral IMO. This is what I said earlier: making a good melody might be fairly easy but making a whole track that sounds interesting is a whole different ballgame. For example Varuna starts GREAT and then it goes to shit around 2:30, it becomes incredibly cheezy (reminded me in many ways of Lani's stuff). Don't mean to diss you or anything, your stuff still is better than 80% of psytrance that's being released these days (and by far superior to my own creations), it's just not 10/10 material IMHO.
  5. err... I can't find any of them... what is your artist name on the site?
  6. well you say it's easy to make so if it's that easy why don't you release some music then? And don't tell me that you prefer your dayjob to becoming the next psytrance star...
  7. Dude, many people have agreed for a decade that IFO is something special, longtime before it became a rarity so it's much more than just a bunch of greedy discogs sellers who want to make a quick buck... yes and how many records have you released latley so you can judge, mr Towelie?
  8. because it's a CLASSIC... Yes and also rarity is another important factor.
  9. ok mr smarty pants (and all the others who think that goatrance is so easy to make). If it's that easy to make then why not become the next Pleiadians or Astral Projection??? You'd make thousands of euros by having fun and journey around the world. It's every goatrancer's dream yet there you are, stuck with doing a 9 to 5 job and just fiddling around with some synths in your bedroom without actually releasing anything. Clearly this is proof that it's not as easy as you guys make it sound... Personally I fiddle around with Reason and I find it VERY hard to make something worthwhile. Agreed, sometimes you can stumble on an interesting melody just by randomly clicking on the note bars, still from that to making a whole track (album?) that sounds good is a whole different ballgame.
  10. err... you did... right here: The difference is that if you take a scale, for example the classical jewish one that astral projection and mfg used all the time and stick to that scale but add notes randomly within the scale, and stick to the timing as well it will sound GOOD however you do it. Thats how arabic/oriental scales work. I can make some examples with audio and midi as well if anyone is interested. When you say man seriously take it for what it is, programmed music.. made by mouse clicks I wonder if you even listen to electronic music at all cause I cannot see a SINGLE electronic music track that does NOT fit your description... also if you take it that way, Mozart is just random scriblings of a pen on some paper that happened to sound good? I don't like to sound judgemental but I'm getting the feeling that you're trying to come off as knowing a lot more than you actually do. Just post some links to so-called random melodies in a scale that sound good whatever you do and I'll finance your next album
  11. heh funny how tastes differ cause personally I consider Luciana to be his best album to date... BTW did you know that Luciana was actually Juno Reactor's first work and they made it as a musical soundtrack to a sculpture representing a nuclear bomb called... "Juno Reactor" hence the act's name. The music was made to make people realize the dangers and gravity of a possible nuclear attack
  12. well I'd still like to hear an actual example so I can tell by myself
  13. actually I'm VERY interested... if what you say is true, that would basically mean that all my childhood heroes I cherished so much were just making random melodies??? I'd cry if that was true but I'd like to see an actual example so I can judge by myself. Other than that, IMO you can clearly see the difference between real melodies and random melodies by comparing Pleiadians to Filteria... they basically use the same formula but the end result is VERY different. That's what separates the good from the best IMO
  14. don't know but that's one killer mix... funny part is that I don't know almost any of those tracks and I have a huge collection of oldschool. Guess there's still a lot of territory to be covered
  15. just buy any recent full-on comp, they all sound the same anyway
  16. hmmm not many 303s in this album, more like violins, pianos and electric guitars but personally I like the end result
  17. maybe I don't know, but this album definatly does NOT sound like Skazi
  18. well yes Talamasca is making less and less "Talamasca-sounding" music and more and more generic full-on music. The trend has been going on for years so this album sounded EXACTLY like I thought it would. That said, there still are a few good tracks in here IMO. Obsessive Dream has a VERY nice and dreamy intro melody and the rest of the track is pretty good as well IMO. But my absolute fav is Overload I can't believe almost noone mentioned this one!!! It definatly has the most of the "old" Talamasca sound, the female-voice from Come On (which is IMO his best track ever) and then around 3:30 comes THEEE Talamasca-breakdown, then the 3D Vision synth presets that will make people on the dancefloor pull out their hairs. Not only that but he actually adds another layer of pads on top around 4:30 which really gives you the impression of having a sensory overload. Too bad the melody turns a bit commercial from 5:20, otherwise it would've been a close runner-up to Come On. Spiritual Renewal isn't that bad either, it has a lot of oldschool elements (oh and I'm always a sucker for djembés ). IMO this is the track that sounds the most like his early stuff on Beyond the Mask, although it's a bit on the commercial side. CD2 is basically party full-on. Get You Freak On is actually a full-on remix of Daft Punk's Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger (personally I prefer Daft Punk's own trance remix in their live version...) Discotheque is a vocal track but for some reason I actually like this one. I don't know why cause it's commercial as hell but it just sounds nice IMO. No Senses, Moving Target and Invaders have some nice melodies in them, we're not into classic territory but they are nice to listen. Into The Light is a true killer!!! Great melodies and a bit of an oldschool touch, I'd definatly like to hear more releses from this project Like other people said above, I actually found myself listening more to the 2nd CD rather than the first. That said, I still consider the 1st CD to have some pretty potent tracks, it's not THAT bad. And please give Overload another listen, it's really worth it 7/10
  19. 1. Rabbit Hole 2. Insane Monkey 3. Total Disintegration 4. Midsummer Night's Dream 5. Harmony From Chaos 6. Deep Purple Haze 7. The Acid Test 2006 8. Inner Revolution 9. Computer Crash Just when you thought that these guys have started going downhill they released a full collaboration album which is just amazing. It manages to make a great crossblend between the "classic" Space Tribe and Electric Universe sound and full-on. I'll just comment the stand-out tracks. Total Disintegration actually starts with the EXACT same synth sounds as Hallucinogen's LSD... you can already feel that this is gonna be something special. OK, all similarities with LSD stop after the first few seconds, then it goes on like some rather generic full-on, then some oldschoolish acid melodies come in making you wonder if this is gonna cross the oldschool boundaries completly or if it's just a few teasers thrown in. Then around minute 4:00 again some more oldschoolish melodies on top of the full-on progression, then a breakdown - release, again some 303s and then WHAM we are in complete oldschool territory!!! AHHHHH so these guys haven't forgotten their roots after all Harmony From Chaos is another stormer. This one is much more full-on oriented (but in a good way ). It starts with a rolling bassline and Olli Wisdom talking over a vocoder, nothing special till now. But then around min 5:00 it all breaks down, then picks up again with the vocoder and then around 6:00 comes yet another breakdown and then one of the best melodies EVER (yes, that is INCLUDING everything made in the 90s ). This one will definatly be on my playlist for a long time to come Deep Purple Haze is an odd crossblend between rock and full-on, with Ollie Wisdom singing. Well, after Boris Blenn has given us one of THE best trance-rock anthems ever with Meteor I had high hopes with this one... and they have fallen rather short It's not a BAD track but I somehow expected to have more of the Meteor feeling and sadly it just wasn't there Acid Test 2006 is again a bit of a let-down since I was a big fan of the original version. This one just doesn't bring anything new IMO Computer Crash deserves a special mention. It's actually a very cool tune and then all of a sudden around 2:50 there are a lot of skipping sounds and Olli saying "Oh no, the computer's crashed!" and then it's over... nice trick for live performances lol Although the track was so cool I would've liked it if I had the full-version as a bonus or something. I must also say that I'm a bit dissapointed cause there wasn't any remix of The Alkaloid Experiment, I would've loved to hear a new version of that one. Conclusion OK, like most Space Tribe and Electric Universe you have some really killer tracks and some fillers but the killer tracks are sooo great that they definatly make buying this album worthwhile. 8,5/10
  20. CD1 1. James Brown Is Dead 2. Killing in the name of 3. Accelera rmx 4. Find my pain 5. Machine 2 6. The post anthem 7. Never again 8. Dead man walking 9. Xt-no 10. Face the nation CD2 11. Intro 12. Rise 13. Deep Blue 14. Push 15. Down 16. Hide Away 17. Losing my faith 18. Hero (Part 1) 19. Hero (Part 2) oh man I can't believe I've walked past this gem when it was released! These guys really have an original style going on. They basically make a crossover between classical music, black metal and full-on. I know that by looking at the track names you'll think that it's just full-on wannabe artist no. 2345493 wanting to make a quick buck by making psy remixes of classic dance tracks but this one is so different to everything else around there that it deserves its place unders the sun IMO. Don't have the time and patience to review all the 19 tracks sepratley but I definatly recomend this one 8/10
  21. hah I'm surprised noone mentioned Cactus... it's my personal fave. The tribal chanting part is AMAZING, too bad it doesn't last longer.
  22. ha funny you mention the word "cool" cause that's exactly what came to my mind when listening to it. It felt so cool it was on auto-pilot lol But that's what bothered me: no surprises, nothing to really make me want to jump off my chair and dance, just unengaged "cool" music. And as far as listening to it while high... my absolute vote still goes to Terminator - Spirit of the Plants but as you say, in the end it's all a matter of personal taste
  23. I don't get it... you post a review saying you like it and then you post another review 2 weeks later saying that you don't?
